Purchased 2 for Christmas presents for my girls age 6 and 8…they love them! Keeps them entertained for hours, just right for their age. Many functions for them to use and easy to navigate. Would recommend 100%

My son was really pleased with the secret diary. It fit the bill of what he asked for. Disappointing however that the pen nib split, I mean within seconds of being used. Then it leaked all over the notepad so it was blotch very quickly. Luckily I had a pen that fit and the door still closes. Simple and fun.

Great diary except the pen included

Granddaughter loves this and can’t put it down. Make sure you change the batteries it comes with as they are only for demo and due quickly! Also can’t find any mention of a memory card required, but it is!

You’d need to ask the little one about face recognition etc. All I know is it gets played with a lot.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersOur daughter had this for her 5th birthday. She was very excited and knew what it was instantly.
Setting up the facial recognition was easy at first, though because we were in a different environment (darker) we had to reset this in our lighter home for it to work properly.
Thankfully, pressing the reset button to redo the picture for unlocking under the battery compartment does not wipe all the data including diary entries and unicorn progress etc.
The door does open in order for you to enter the pass code to unlock, which is 4 digits.
It would be nice if you didn’t have to wait for the camera not to recognise you before waiting for the door to unlock in order to enter the code. I think its too long of a wait before you can bypass the camera option.
    It takes about 20 seconds.

Oddly the unicorn seems to sleep right when we are awake in the mornings so we had to set the time 2 hours ahead in order for it to be awake.
When it sleeps you cannot do anything with it. So frustration sets in – hence changing the time on the diary.

So apart from those oddities it works very well. Like the other devices in this range/price point the camera is a bit naff. It’s poor in low light and when you look at the pictures on a computer/tablet they are of very poor quality. It is to be expected.

We added a memory card for saving pictures and other bits to. We also had some music added to this card for playing. The sound is ok actually from the small speaker.

Our daughter enjoys adding a diary entry with an emoticon, weather and some writing. Since it has a qwerty keyboard it is good for children to learn the position of the keys/letters.

The lights are a nice touch but they only just illuminate in random patterns.

The games are good, similar to other VTech devices. There is the dressing room & photo edition option too but I have not fully got to grips with that yet. There is a fair few features to delve into to keep children interested.

Since there isn’t a detailed manual it’s a bit of guess work finding out all the keys and options. It was a day or so before we realised there was a back button for instance.
Saying that there is a voice that helps you and guides you through the options that are available.

There is background music playing whilst the unit is unlocked. You can turn this off. As usual the batteries supplied are worth changing straight away with a decent set since ours lasted just a few hours before it showed a low battery warning and failed to stay on.

Our daughter found that there is an integrated stand to allow the device to stand up in portrait mode.

Overall it is a nice toy with several features. I hope it will be used for many months before being left in a corner 🙂

Great gift for my niece. She absolutely loved it. She really liked the technology behind the diary and liked that it didn’t come with a key as she’s alwYs losing them for her diaries.
    Lovely gift for kids.

My son has Asperger’s syndrome and adhd. A diary with a lock on itis something he just desperately wanted. This seemed perfect for him. I was a little bit disappointed with the price. Thought it was overpriced

Not as simple to use as I thought it would be. – That being said my 7 year old can use it no problem! Everything i said I couldn’t do like find the photos after taking them, she took it and found them. So its top marks from her. And her review is what counts!

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersMy granddaughter loved her secret diary.
After using it for a month, it developed a fault on the screen which made it difficult to see clearly.
I contacted Amazon, who arranged for me to return the faulty diary and delivered a replacement the next day.
    Brilliant customer service.

This was a hit at Christmas with my partner’s daughter. She loves that only her voice is recognised, and that she can store all her secret and ‘work’ on it. We love the factor there are educational games on it too, which is a bonus. The only disappointing factor for us was the screen broken after a couple of weeks however, it was very promptly replaced therefore, no complaints.

The device was a present for our 6 year old.

The voice recognition was very hit and miss, requiring several attempts before success for my daughter, although it was less of an issue for me.

Otherwise it’s a pretty good device

A very happy 7 year old who takes this diary everywhere with her. Very sturdy and lots of things to do in the diary. Just remember to put new batteries in when it’s received- it only works on test mode with the batteries it comes with. A lovely gift.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersI brought this for a family member who is 6 after they spotted it in the argos book and wanted it for their birthday.

It was over 10 cheaper on here than the RRP.

I was not expecting much from this product but I had a little play around with it while it was in the box before hand and I was surprised at how bright and good quality the screen is. Of course ‘good quality’ for a kids toy, I am not comparing it to expensive adult gadgets like our phones or televisions!

There is more to it than just writing in your diary. There are different modes / games.

The reciever loves the toy and it is currently used daily before bed. It comes out for only 10 minutes but it is very much enjoyed. She sees it as being very grown up getting to ‘write’ in her diary before bed.

    Money well spent.

    Good present choice.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersDaughter who is 6 loves this so far.

Batteries lasting well and she loves the games and fact she can take it anywhere as doesn’t require wifi.

A variety of games keeps her busy and she lives the secret compartment.

Has volume control however volume resets itself everytime switched off. Auto switches off too soon when recording voice. Daughter finds too hard to reduce volume and turn off music so I have to do everytime or put up with it.

My 6 year old was thrilled to bits with this after asking for it for her birthday. Little sister has been able to open it with her voice a couple of times which she was a bit miffed about, but for the price you can’t be surprised. Lots to do and keeps her busy.
