Got for Legion Go and it works perfectly. Did need go buy something else with it but that’s fine with me. The Hard drive is great and gave nearly 4x the storage than what I had!
I have an old motherboard (ASRock FM2A75 Pro4+) which probably dates back to around 2015 and have two SATA SSDs in use already. Being an old board this pre-dates the introduction of NVMe sockets.
I bought the cheap adapter (Multibao PCIe Pro M.2 NVMe SSD TO PCI-E 3.0 X16 X4 Adapter) and installed this 1Tb SSD in around five minutes, using windows 10 disk manager to recognise and format the disk..
My main problem had been my lack of storage space for windows backup (about 150Gb required). With this installed I have no problems
for me this was a perfect match of speed and price.
Yes there are cheaper drives out there but who wants to put the cheapest storage into your own personal rig when you spend so much on the rest of the components ??
Yes there are faster drives out there but do I really have to spend a load more cash just so I can load things 1 second quicker ??
I dont think so.
Happy with my purchase.
I got this on a sale and it probably the best thing ive bought, i copped it faster than anything. was a no brainer. fast write speeds. easy to install. overall W.
Bought this to put in my Synology 423+ Nas and was literally plug and play. It’s fast and is huge so i will never need to worry about the cache size at all. Well priced and will be purchasing a second if it comes down on price on prime day. Very happy!
Definitely a great purchase , read/write speeds are great however, the only issue I had is that the nvme did not come with the screw/standoff kit which I had to buy separate which is a bit annoying considering how much you spending buying it in the first place
WD make storage devices and offer solid warranties (cos they know they likely won’t have to use them). This runs at max speed for PCIE 3.0 x4 NVME slots and has a decent length warranty. Recommend you get a addon cooler for it though to keep it in safe temp ranges. Run it for a year now and NO ISSUES AT ALL!
I must have bought this at just the right time because I paid 85 and it’s currently about 30 more. Physical installation was easy but I was replacing a boot drive and that was a pain. I’ve done this before without problem but this time it was a struggle. I used Macrium Reflect to back up my old drive, restored to the new and… it wouldn’t boot. I got it going eventually, I think I selected an option for restore that I had dismissed as not appropriate and bingo, off we go. On reflection using boot repair utilities might have been quicker but I got there in the end. If you’re adding this as a data drive it will be very easy. My mobo only has one M2 slot so that wasn’t an option for me.
I use this NVME as secondary storage for some games and so far there is nothing to complain about. It was easy to install like any other 2280 nvme drive and it worked with my motherboards nvme clip so i didn’t have to actually screw the drive.
It loads massive games like Red Dead 2 quickly
It works perfectly and installing windows from a fast flasdrive was so quick I didn’t have time to make a cup of coffee.
However windows seems to boot very slowly. Everything else is fine on it.
The M.2 SSd’s are reasonably priced and seem to be just as fast as some more expensive SSD’s on the market. I have 2 of these in my PC and the transfer speed between them can reach a gig per second, probably faster if you set them up correctly. I’ve just banged them into my PC and not adjusted any bios settings or any settings inside windows for them. The only thing I have changed is the auto defrag. You don’t want to defrag SSD drives unless you want a dead drive!
The WD_BLACK 2TB SN770 M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4 NVMe Gaming SSD up to 5150 MB/s read speed is a great M2 card for the price. I would recommend this produc
so far this drive has been running well, completely brand new (also indicated by software). I use it as a boot drive and for gaming the cooling is fine in my use case and my boot times have never been better (previously using sata ssd boot drive).
this is a great cheap nvme drive for both gaming and as a boot drive, i will update this review if anything changes.
Some of you may not believe this but 30 years ago most commoner PC enthusiasts like me had 20 to 40MB hard drives (yes you read that right) and were installing ‘programs’ (the use of the word ‘apps’ wasn’t a thing back then) with multiple 3.5 or 5.25 floppy disks. To purchase said hard drives and floppies was either mail order – either phone a specialist shop directly, or send away form in the post. Several weeks later you got your order. To make a return took months.
So imagine explaining to 1993-me that in the future data can be stored on something a bit thicker and half the height of a credit card, with unimaginable storage sizes and not a (direct) power cable in sight.
Poor 1993-me would have his mind blown. Probably.
But 2023-me takes all this for granted which takes me back to my review.
Looking at this NVME drive through the lens of history it truly is an amazing demonstration of industrial miniaturisation, standardisation and technological advancements.
Looking at it through the lens of today it’s about exciting as a tin of paint. You order it in minutes, you get it within 24hrs, you stick it in your motherboard and it just works. It is and it isn’t a great, amazing, fantastic, wonderful piece of kit all at the same time.
Recommended? Yes absolutely. Just don’t try to fill it up with programs from floppies unless you have a spare year or two.
Not much to say. Quick effective and easy to install storage. Will make booting into your OS of choice much faster and game loading times will be cut in half over aging hard drives.
This may not be the latest gen but it is amazingly fast, after POST i’m asked which version of windows I want to use, I click on my choice and within seconds i’m on the fully loaded desktop!
Could not recommend more!
I have a 7300 speed NVME drive 1tb running win10 etc on my board as well so bought this as a drive just for storing games this was half the price of the other drive and twice the size at 2 tb. An absolute bargain although not as fast as the 7300 in real terms it doesn’t matter it’s on a pcie4 board and runs more than fast enough, highly recommended.
This is the fastest SSD I’ve ever had. I installed this in my Samsung laptop to expand the storage it came with, and it worked flawlessly. I cloned my drive using an external M.2 enclosure and it worked right away. The drive is blazing fast and offers a huge about of capacity for the price. Highly recommend!
I somehow missed the memo with NVME drives, I’ve been happily chuntering along with SATA based SSDs, marveling at how fast they are compared to ancient spinning platters.
It’s 2023, a full decade after my last PC build, probably time to try one of these new fangled NVME thingies.
The experience with SATA based SSDs was a case of getting that under 30 seconds Windows boot time nailed, less spinning donuts the better.
The comparable experience with NVME is ‘can my monitor warm up before the PC is booted?’
Is this the ‘best’ NVME? Probably not, the SN850X sits above it in the pecking order for starters. At the speed of these drives, it’s pretty much a case of:
1) Find a trustworthy and reliable brand
2) Find a drive of the right capacity
3) Choose the cheapest
This one fits the bill (or did at the time of purchase!).
I guess the jury’s out when it comes to durability for these new m.2 drives but compared to the old mechanical sata drives and then the later SSDs, these things are simply unbelievable. Fast and massive storage capability in such small form factor and at a comparatively cheap price.
Ideal for a home made external drive too
Well impressed with the speed of this ssd drive, it’s rated for gaming really, but it adds super speed to my old Lenovo ThinkPad 13. Simple installation procedure, and within an hour I had Windows 10 pro installed and updated. My laptop only has 8GB of memory at the moment, I can’t imagine how faster it would be with the maximum of 32GB of memory available.
This drive on Amazon is almost half the price than buying direct from Western Digital, and with prime delivery I got it the next day.
Drive has WD’s 5 year warranty.
I got this at a decent price and it seems to be ok. I am not a gamer and use this PC for work so it wasn’t necessary to get such a fast NVME. Install was straight forward. My MSI Pro motherboard was supplied with a heatsink and thermal pad which I was nervous about sticking on the heatsink and drive but it seems ok.
I use Samsung and Western Digital SSDs and Western Digital HDDs, that have run without an issue. When Amazon ran a deal on this WD SSD, it was time to change to 2TB HDD backup disc, to a 1TB SSD in my main “work horse” computer. As it’s a Gen3 compter it won’t gain the benefit of the Gen4 memory performance, but for backups, it’s more about reliability than outright speed. It sits there at a steady 40 degrees without a heatsink, in a room that is 24 degrees as I type this review. As well as a free download of the Dashboard monitoring software, there is the option for a free download of the Acronis WD True Image app.
Replaced a Gen 3 Samsung M.2 with this Gen 4 M.2 and the speed recorded is as advertised. It wasn’t the cheapest but I fell for the recognisable brand. It does the job as advertised and I’m very pleased.
Using this NVME for a bootdrive for windows its about 930GB with windows installed. Very good speeds and nice pricing, perfect for a new system boot drive or a secondary storage.
Bought 2 for my new computer build. This is alongside a 1tb SSD, so ensures plenty of reserve memory. ‘Bench’ results are as expected ‘outstanding’ so very pleased with my purchase.
Can get quite hot without heat sink, runs very quick and was reasonably priced
Great quality, seems to perform as advertised compared to others. Great price
Installed it very quickly. I used a heatsink which came with my device – although apparently you don’t need one for this particular model, M.2. SSDs can get really hot which might affect performance. This is a great product, probably the best at this price range. I am getting over 5000 mb/sec read AND write speeds which is just phenomenal.
Paired this with the Sintech adapter to upgrade my mid-2015 MBP. Works like a charm. Blackmagic results 2700 read, 2800 write.
Not as fast as my Samsung 980 Pro, but hardly noticeable. Easy to fit onto my motherboard after I put it in an after-market heatsink. Instantly recognized and worked straight away. Gave this 5 stars for value for money, but I did get it on offer, 70. I may have thought about a larger SSD but 1TB was all that was required due to other drive in my machine.
I purchased this and from the others I compared it too this had high speeds and the price wasn’t bad at all.
Great Value SSD for OS, and data. 1TB is enough for my personal laptop use and it has really improved my experience. A combination of a fresh software install and the new NVMe SSD, means that my system now boots in just 17 seconds, down from 1 minute 13, with the old SATA SSD.
Installation was a breeze, just had to take the back panel off my laptop and slot it in, with one retaining screw (not provided with the product). This is obviously not the same for all laptops, but personally I found it very easily, and I don’t have a huge amount of hardware skill/expertise. If you need to do a fresh windows install you can easily create a USB boot drive from the Microsoft website.
Approved! Was looking for and SSD M2 to upgrade my system. So what to say, I’ve got a brand new sealed SSD, perfect price, high performance, screenshot shown is related to my older system with GEN3 M.2 slot, so this GEN4 SSD runs smoothly! I am pretty sure that in GEN4 slot it will perform 100% as it should! A note for those who think to upgrade to SSD for games, if you have a really old HDD, you should definetly get this SSD, you’ll be very surprised how fast games load, you will be in game first! My experience is based on BF2042, so yes, now I get the game loaded x15 times faster and finally can chose a transport)))))
It is easy to install, plenty of tutorials on youtube!
Doesn’t come with a heatsink, and I’d recommend buying one prior to installing it, costs around 10.
After you install the new SSD and start your PS5, you’ll be asked to format it in order to be used as a storage device. Once you format it you’re ready to go!
The speed detected by PS5 was 5132 mb/s which is pretty accurate to what these guys advertise on the package.
In order to use it straightaway go to Settings -> Storage and choose this bad boy as a main storage place!
Enjoy!
I have used this quiet a bit on my builds and never had a prob yet so all good.
Price is a little high to will only get when it’s on a special offer.
So … I bought this knowing that my board is gen 3 PCI express. I understand that I won’t get gen 4 speeds (up to 5 gigabyte/s for this storage) because of the limitations of my board. However, the point was to get close to at least 3.9 Gigabyte/s rather than buy a gen 3 nvme that is rated up to 3.5 that might only get 3.2 gigabyte/s. The pic says it all. I’m good. Ah .. the vanity. Cheers
When my WD Green SSD Stopped working I figured why not upgrade it, I bought this initially as a secondary drive but decided to place my OS onto it due to high read write speeds and it’s an absolute dream, can load from full power off to Windows Login in under 10 seconds! 1tb is perfect size and at the price is definitely worth if as both a primary or secondary drive.
My main laptop contains 4 different M.2 2280 PCIe NVMe hard drives and I also use them for external storage and on another laptop I use. I ordered the WD Black SN770 2TB to replace one of the smaller 256GB NVMe drives I have and I am very pleased with the speed I get when using it. My laptops are bottlenecked at Gen3 speeds so I do not get to enjoy the full power that this drive is capable of, but they are fast enough that it does not bother me – plus it is cheaper than upgrading the entire laptop. I am a big fan of WD’s hard drive technology and their M.2 2280 PCIe NVMes are no exception. Reliable, fast and easy to install. I certainly would not hesitate to recommend this product and may even buy another to put in an external enclosure for additional backups. Hope this helps. Thank you.
Bought this to amalgamate all my drives. Super quick. Boot time is insane, as are gaming loading times. I paired with 64GB of RAM cause why not.
The drive is a good drive. I’m using it in a Gen3 NVMe slot rather than a Gen4 slot and the drive works perfectly well, oversight on my part that the MoBo that I am using it in is a Gen 3 one at max. This affects performance and sometimes when I load an additional instance of Chrome etc there is a little delay. My best guess is that this is because the MoBo and storage are trying to do things slightly differently. I have no doubt that this drive a Gen4 NVMe slot would fly and for the purchase cost of 65 it is a total steal.
whilst not the fastest WD NVME SSD as there is the 850 and now the 850X this was good value for money and a jump in read/write performance VS the Patriot Viper gen 3 I had installed in my sons gaming PC. my plan was to increase capacity as 1TB NVME is still best bang for buck, running 2 x 1TB NVME drives one for apps, OS, the other for games giving approximately a combined usable of 1.8TB capacity after formatting
What i didn’t know (and handy to know as i was scouring the web for free disk cloning software) is when you procure a WD SSD go to the WD website and download WD dashboard to firstly upgrade the SSD firmware, enable gaming mode and also from here under additional software there is Acronis.
IF you want to clone your existing C drive to replace the one already installed follow the Acronis link and download the Acronis software as you are entitled to this FOC. Acronis true image makes cloning your existing HDD/SSD etc a piece of cake and with software you know isn’t malware/virus ridden. cloning is done in windows and only took about 12 minutes to clone the drive, and have this up and running as the new C Drive.
Installed this in my PS5- no need to play with games shuffling anymore. I am happy with the product.
Bought this M.2 drive as a system disk for a new PC build. 12th gen Intel with a B660 motherboard with 32GB DDR4 3200 CL16 RAM. This is not a gaming PC, I just future proofed a bit. The drive is a simple fit into the PCI-E Gen 4 x4 M.2 slot on the MB. Installed Windows 11 Pro on to it.
You won’t be disappointed with the performance even though it is a DRAM less drive. Windows boots to usable desktop in sub 30 seconds. Word and Excel start seemingly instantly.
I tested the drive using Crystal Disk Mark v8.0.4. Achieved 5223 read, 4950 write.
Recommended for a “admin” PC or even a lower spec gaming rig but only if the price is right. 7000/7300 drives are starting to reduce a bit so worth checking. Overall I am a happy customer.
Purchased on Prime day for 133. I couldn’t resist 2tb of PCIe 4.0 for that. in reality it’s indistinguishable speed wise in 99% of tasks from my Seagate 530. in the end I got rid of the 530 and bought a second one of these!
Very happy eith the SN770 at that price. However I’ve noticed they have hiked the price significantly higher after all the good initial reviews, which I feel is a bit unfair, so I docked a point.
I bought this storage device for my gen3 motherboard (maximus xi hero) although i don’t get full speeds because my motherboard is a generation older it preforms extremely good. I recommend this m.2 for gen 3 boards as it caps out the speeds at 3500mbs which is half of what it can actually do but it keeps the temperature really low. If you bought this mid range m.2 for your gen 4 motherboard you will get a lot higher temps which could damage it unless you bought a m.2 cooling plate. So overall i recommend this for all gen3 boards (if compatible) and gen 4 boards if you have a lower end cpu on a gen 4 board.
Perfect for all the games I play, makes them loads super fast and even on Warframe the loading time on open world parts as instant, love it wish I had one years ago in my XBOX one X, but super glad I got it for my Gaming PC Setup
