These are an essential purchase for 500gb Series S consoles. I can now play the other games that I had stuck on my portable drive.
Expensive but remember these are NOT made of normal SSD memory.

Absolutely amazing it’s only 512gb the one I picked up however the change is incredible. I’m able to get the same amount of storage as I would on an Xbox series. X worth the money. You also get one month of game pass for free

The 4TB hard drive is a powerful and versatile storage device that provides ample space for storing large amounts of data. With its massive storage capacity, it is an excellent option for individuals and businesses that require a significant amount of storage for their data.

One of the most significant advantages of the 4TB hard drive is its large storage capacity, which can store up to 4 terabytes of data. This makes it an excellent option for individuals and businesses that need to store large amounts of data, such as videos, music, and photos. It can also be used for backing up important files, which is crucial for protecting against data loss.

In addition to its large storage capacity, the 4TB hard drive is also fast and reliable. It provides high-speed data transfer rates, which means that large files can be transferred quickly and efficiently. It is also designed to be durable and reliable, which means that it can withstand the wear and tear of regular use and will continue to perform reliably over time.

One potential downside of the 4TB hard drive is its relatively high price compared to smaller-capacity drives. However, the cost per terabyte is typically lower for larger-capacity drives, which means that the 4TB hard drive may be a more cost-effective option in the long run for those who require a significant amount of storage.

Overall, the 4TB hard drive is a powerful and reliable storage device that provides ample space for storing large amounts of data. Its large storage capacity, high-speed data transfer rates, and durability make it an excellent option for individuals and businesses that need to store and access large amounts of data

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIt took just 11 minutes to transfer 67.505gb of games and six quick and easy to for setup and has a nice and easy to understand booklet on what to do for PS5, Xbox series x/s and pc with no power cable for the external hard drive and is very quie

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersWhile you can get some for a bit cheaper, this is very reliable, extremely small, can literally fit into your pocket, and is quick to transfer games back & forth which if you’re on Xbox series x|s? You will be doing a lot. Like I mean a lot.

For example, gears of war 5 takes a rounds 30 minutes to transfer over or to transfer back onto the external memory.

Battlefield 5/battlefront 2 (both very large games) take roughly that.

Red dead redemption 2 around 115gb takes about 30 ish minutes as well. Sometimes 35, but still. Beats downloading by miles.

Honestly, I’d recommend, and for peace of mind, as hard drives can have issues, I’d buy the added insurance.

Seems to do the job ..needed extra ssd memory as I only had 256 gb installed, and modern games taking evermore memory ( red dead redemption 115gb) an external ssd fitted the bill with 1 tb memory.
Working well upto know ,it does get a little warm but it’s tobe expected.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI understood that I wasn’t going to get exactly 5TB due to the number of bytes and bits, etc. However, to be a whole 1/10 less capacity than I thought is disappointing. You can see from the image that there is 5 trillion bytes but just be aware that if you need to backup nearly 5TB of data, this drive is not big enough.

    4.54TB not 5TB

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersDrive was not feeling very fast, done a crystaldiskmark test and I got 92mb/s (should be at least 125mb/s).
I run userbenchmark and I get performing way bellow expectations, operating at USB 3.1 speed (no idea why and that is why I thought to test with other cables and at another PC)
I have used it and benchmarked it in two different PC’s both with USB 3.2 ports, I have used different cables but results are always the same. Quick google search revealed am not the only one with same issue.
*** I’ve deleted partition and reformatted the drive, copied back the data and now am getting SEQ1M Q8TI 113mb/s Read and 107 mb/s Write. Searching online found out that drives almost full seem to slow down and maybe deleting and recopying the data had an effect similar to defragmenting that speeded up the drive (am no expert, just a theory) ***

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI hate these mixed-up reviews – for clarity this is for a 5TB Western Digital Black P10 external 2.5″ drive.

I purchased this at a discounted price during a WD global sale, it is frankly staggering value for money. Albeit it’s an ‘old’ mechanical drive, rather than a solid-state affair. I needed some sizable space to be able to reorganize some pretty huge files, it’s great for the job.

WD quote the drive at ‘up to 140MB/s’ – which is fair, I’ve managed consistent 130MB/s sequential reads and over 120MB/s sequential writes. Small file random IO sees these rates drop like a stone as you would expect. But all in all it does well for a drive that is spinning at a reported 4800RPM.

It is a little power-hungry, it certainly wasn’t happy sharing USB power in my (non-powered) hub with other drives, but given it’s own USB port it is more than happy.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our Users100 for 5TB was a great deal and it’s been working perfectly ever since the day I brought it and has a pretty solid case which is made of metal and hard plastic which is a great deal. The drive came with around 4.6-4.8TB which is fine as most HDDs lose about 120GB per terabyte anyway so it makes sense for it to come as it did.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI bought the 500gb SSD for my xbox series s, altogether I’m rather pleased with it as it cost around 70 but do be aware you cannot play any X/S enhanced games directly from it only store them, any older games and your good to play directly off of it. I got this as a expansion card would have cost way more than double so I dont mind having to wait 10/20 mins just to move a large X/S game back to internal. came with around 450gb to use as about expected.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersBought the 5tb version to use with my RPI 4, I’m replacing a 1tb drive with usb adapter to with the 5tb gaming drive. I reformatted and use the drive in conjunction with open media vault and docker. No issues with drive, noise and heat minimal. No clicking as reported by some however mine is powered by a hub but previously the 1tb was powered by the pi. Im using a hub so I can mirror the 1tb LVM to a 1tb partition on the 5tb drive

Update 03/10/2022: The drive has been returned to WD due to sector fails and ended with the drive being unreadable. Drive was sent back as RMA 3 weeks ago, so far no replacement sent however Ihad confirmation they received the drive

UPDATE 07/08/2022: The drive has had a lot of use 2000+ hours, and it has performed well. I changed my setup and moved away from the RPI4 and am now using a HP 800 G2 Mini I5-5500T which is giving me more bang for buck and I am getting better USB3 speeds, my system is built on proxmox with omv openmediavault virtualised in a VM, and the 5TB USB drive is used to hold media on a ZFS filesystem. I have recently started getting issues with read errors on one sector, this is under investigation to see whether its an actual disk fault or an issue with USB maybe dropping and causing a write issue. So far its only one sector.
The drive isn’t noisy the current temp is 51c according to smartd.

I bought this drive to add storage to my Xbox Series S. Once connected it formatted in seconds and was available to use. It’s ideal for running all your last gen games from (access speeds are very acceptable) and for storing your current gen games that you are not currently playing to avoid re-downloading them at a later date (current gen games must be played from the consoles’ internal drive or the official expansion drive). I am very happy with this purchase and may well get another one for my gaming laptop in due course!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersA great package, which offers extremely fast NVMe SSD access (3000MB/sec+ – enough to transfer ~180GB in a minute or so). The only catch is it isn’t bus-powered which means it lacks the portability of some other NVMe Thunderbolt 3 enclosures.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI Purchased this HDD for extra storage for my PS5 to put all the games I’m not currently playing on it so its not taking up space on the internal ps5 since I cant afford to pay 700 to 900 for an SSD to put in there, And it does the business very well I must say, the only reason why its not 5 stars is because sometimes it gives the ps5 some connectivity issues and it asks me to format the drive but unplugging and plugging it back in solves the issues, overall I am pleased.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersMy xbox will not let me play titles such as Rainbow Six Siege or Microsoft flight simulator as when trying to install them it states “Newer games need faster storage” meaning I can still install the game onto the external SSD but I cannot play the game without moving it onto the Internal SSD. I bought the Series S and this SSD thinking I could have more storage for cheaper because I couldn’t afford the Xbox Series X but I cannot play newer games off of this External SSD. It plays older games fine but games optimised for the Series S/X will not run and you will have to move them to the Xbox’s Internal SSD storage. However, some games run off of the External SSD such as: Rocket League and Halo: MCC. As for other games I’m not too sure. Just a warning in case you’re thinking of doing what I did.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersSuperb storage and very easy to set up.

You can’t play ps5 / x/s games directly but you can play last gen and older supported games from the Hdd.

Biggest downside is the noise, its so loud and annoying but also doesn’t stop when you turn your console off, keeps churning away regardless.

If noise will aggravate you then look at the WD Black drives that down need external power, much quieter.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersSo I bought the 5TB version of the drive as it was on a Black Friday deal.

Just arrived, plugged it in to use it and low and behold, it holds 4.5TB of storage space rather than the 5TB that I bought it for!

    Missleading.
This is a drive that has not been used at all. A fresh clean drive with nothing on it and I get this.

Kinda disapointed really. I hope W.D can respond to this and care to explain why.
If you advertise something, you have to SELL what you are giving.

Note that I found the USB lead provided (standard USB C to B) could have been better. This gave average speeds (load times like a HDD) . Upgraded to USB 3.1 gen 2 C to C lead and speeds were rocket fast. Recommend doing this (just make sure the new lead is USB 3.1)

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersWhile waiting for the PS5 to unlock the storage drive I needed extra storage.

This works great to store all my PS4 games on and means I can directly play them off this drive. Drive is fast and I have noticed no difference in speed of loading from when I used to play them on PS4 so happy with that although obviously not as quick as when stored on the internal PS5 drive as expected.

The second drive has now been opened up so once amazon have stock of my SSD I will be installing that in the PS5 but due to the cost of the drives I have gone for a 2TB even though it can support 4TB so I may keep this plugged in so I can use for PS4 games without filling the PS5 storage space.

Overall great buy to increase storage on PS4 or PS5.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersAs for USB disk is awesome good looking and the space depend on what version you both.
Reads from USB 3.0 port are
    (1GB File)-> 135mb/s and writes 130mb/s.
    (512MB File) -> 148mb/s and writes 126mb/s.
Unfortunately, if you will want to use this drive internally (connect it to the SATA directly).
There is no way of doing that. Motherboard is fused with USB adapter that mean the only way to connect it to the computer is through the USB provided in the box. The model of drive WD50NMZW.

USB Only. You can't connect it internally by SATA

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersThis product arrived quickly, complete and well packed. It was true plug and play and immediately worked with my Dell Gaming laptop.
It was immediately recognised by Windows 10 and allowed cut and paste transfer, very simple. I used it first to transfer some large data files from an old desktop computer, no problem.
It looks good, feels solid and well made and looks the part. It is so quiet I cannot hear it operating, it doesn’t vibrate and is not getting warm.
It looks very neat on my desk next to my other I.T. (see the picture)
If you don’t want the lightening speed of a SSD, then this is the answer, more space, acceptably fast, looks cool and very good value for money
    Highly recommended.

Excellent storage option if you don't mind the slower speed

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersMy only draw back is when I turn on my comp it wont boot and I’ve even turned off in the bios booting from usb as an option. I probably need to research more to correct his but Im lazy and I dont care.

If I had of know I could stick one of these bad boys into my motherboards usb 3 port and it preform the way it does I would of bought one years ago. I got it about a week ago after looking ad ssd drives (already have an ssd as main HD) and mulling over costs vs a larger internal sata drive and happened on discussions about if usb 3 drives can handle game storage. I was personally caught up in the misunderstanding that you cant play games from an external hard drive, not to mention thinking you could would have people in the know laugh at you.

I’ve since installed two terrabytes of games from my steam account and epic account onto this drive. The only difference I have noted between my main SSD drive and this is that steam installs take a little while longer allocating space, but once done game downloads installed at 5mb a sec, which to be fair to this drive was the max my internet could download at, so not sure if it goes faster..

Either way, Ive spent weeks installing all the massive data games out of my accounts onto this drive and not had a single problem running any of them. No longer do I need to decide what I should delete so I can try something new. Now, I can have it all!

Erm, awesome drive. I regret the last few years making decisions about what I should delete so I can install something new. If only I had of know that a few quid could of given me so much freedom!!

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersIt has a decent capacity of about 7.5Tb and not the full 8Tb advertised(as a lot of space is used up for the file system on mechanical hard drives in general so you very rarely get the full capacity advertised) for the price and works very well with the PS4 PRO and on the whole has decent access speeds tho on occasion it does seem to be a bit slow. This is probably to do with the 10 second spin up time which does make loading a little slow at times during gaming. Tho game loading is fairly quick when you load up a game from the Home Screen. The drive does run quite warm during busy times when gaming so I would recommend that the drive is placed in a well ventilated place so as to allow heat to naturally dissipate and definitely ensure that the fan at the back of the drive has a clear path to expel the build up of heat. The drive is extremely easy to set up and is formatted for the PS4 very quickly. It is definitely worth the money tho it will run considerably slower than a solid state hard Drives as will all mechanical drives so there is a trade off between storage space and read, write, access times. Also if you choose a solid state hard drive you are currently limited to 2Tb and will very likely pay 200 or more and the faster the drive the more expensive they are generally. Also to really get the benefit of the speed of solid state hard drives you would need to replace the PS4 internal drive with a solid state hard Drive and then you have the problem of downloading the PS4 operating system on to the drive prior to or during replacement which can be very problematic. Hence why mechanical External hard Drives are very popular with the PS4 as generally the storage space of the internal hard drive is much smaller than required for most gamers, so external hard Drives are a almost a must have item as it allows you to have comprehensive access to many years of games overtime and not be forced into deleting and installing games which is very time consuming. Also the hard drives is not fully silent and you can hear it running faintly in the background especially during times when you are not gaming which is probably the downside of having a hard drive which spins faster than standard mechanical hard drives tho I think it is a trade off which is worth it in my opinion.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI use it to store my big games on windows such as Microsoft Flight Simulator, COD COLD WAR, GTA V, STAR WARS, etc.

My internal is an SSD so I can tell you that this HDD only gave me 2-10seconds more waiting time in most games than using SSD which is great imo. It is simply a negligible difference for me. Although Microsoft Flight Sim is a different topic, using the HDD increased loading time to a minute. Other than that, other games are smooth.

The aesthetic of the shell of the HDD is beautiful and looks badass to me.

I recommend this guys. I was a wary customer but pulled the gun and I don’t regret.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersTwo things you need to be aware of if you buy the WD_Black D10 12TB hard drive.

The storage is in fact 10.9TB, not 12TB as advertised. This is because they incorrectly state that there are 1,000,000,000,000 bytes that make up 1TB storage. In fact 1 TB storage equals 1,099,511,627,776 bytes. As a result you are are left with substantially less storage space than advertised.

Second point to make, and this is important for XBox Series X users, this hard drive is currently not 100% compatible with the XBox Series X. For it to work properly (and to prevent your console crashing at start-up or when restarting) I recommend that you only plug the hard drive in after the initial boot-up is complete. I would also recommend disconnecting the hard drive before attempting to restart the XBox Series X or installing any updates to the operating system. At this moment in time, any attempt to re-boot the console with the hard drive plugged in causes the console to freeze on start-up, forcing you to to initiate a hard shut-down. I find this a problem purely with the D10 12TB hard drive as I get no issues with the Seagate 8TB hub when plugged in to the console. This leads me to believe that there is a driver issue with the D10 that needs to be fixed for the XBox Series X. At this moment in time if you have this hard drive plugged in while performing a system update on your XBox Series X, I have real concerns that this could lead to your console being bricked.

When it does work, the hard drive is fast (certainly faster than my old 8TB hub which is beginning to show wear and tear). However I would recommend holding off buying the D10 if you were planning to use it for the XBox Series X at least until the issue has been properly patched on the console.

    Update: 19th January 2021

After reporting my concerns regarding the compatibility issues with the 12TB drive to both Microsoft and Western Digital in December, Microsoft released a new operating system update for the XBox Series X last week which has now resolved the issue. Users should have no problem now keeping their drive plugged into their console when rebooting or when initially booting up their console. Wester Digital help desk indicated that they received no similar reports before mine, so it’s important to let them know as soon as you get an issue.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersI was advised to buy this drive by a techy friend to replace my art storage drives which were beginning to fail. As a designer who works primarily digitally I generally have very large file size work, and masses of it, so having a reliable drive is very important. This drive was recommenced as a combination of drive size, brand name and price – even though it appears to be primarily marketed as a gaming drive,

I am a Mac user, and so far this drive has worked exceptionally well. It is fast to save to, and open from, and so far has had no issues disconnecting from my Mac both when it is awake or when backing up to from sleep.

My only negative about this drive is the relatively loud hum which I imagine is down to the cooling fan. It’s quite noticeable when working, and could even be felt as a light vibration on my desk. However, after a few days I am getting used to the noise. Don’t get me wrong, this is not a loud or heavy vibration, but it’s present enough for me to find it a little distracting when working.

Golden Review Award: 19 From Our UsersYes, It is a little more expensive than the other HDDs but with this HDD you know you’re paying for the quality.
I’ve always used Seagate and honestly they are sufficiently good enough. They do what they are supposed to do. But possibly 99% of all Seagate HDDs work perfectly and then there is that 1% that doesn’t or that 1% that Plays up. I have had a couple of Seagate items that have had problems. It is usually the small connector where the usb/hdmi port on the HDD itself buggars up and you can no longer access you main catalogue of games or music. Which lets face it is a major worry/hassle. So from now on I am going to spend a little bit more to have better quality metal work on the port of the HDD. The strength of the metal is much better. Probably thicker and welded better so it doesn’t just mangle up or fall off completely.
YEP, it’s Western Digital for me from now on I think. And they look a lot better don’t they!? I know it’s only aesthetics but I like things to look good as well as work good!! Don’t you?

Golden Review Award: 83 From Our UsersSO I bought this and I dont own an xbox. Heres why.

Inside the 12tb D10 is a Western Digital DC HC520 drive. I quick google of said drive will reveal this is an enterprise grade drive.

Coupled with it being on offer for two hundred notes means that when on offer this is a bargain. I stripped the drive out and gave my nas a handy boost.

Bit about it as an external drive. The case is plastic fantastic which is disappointing at this price point. Its chunky though and has a small fan. I’ll likely reuse the case with an old drive.

Either way the drive that came with it is a beast. Very fast with a low margin of error and built to last. The drives literally run all day every day in data centres so will be more than enough for your games collection.

The real limit here on performance is the USB interface. Again perfect for games or as an external drive but a true sata connection sets it free.
