Put it in a PlayStation 5. No issues simple install and PlayStation recognised it straight away. Had it a while and still all good.
Amazon posted this item real quick and was with me within a day. Real fast delivery and also cheaper then original price as it was on offer for black Friday deals.
Really really happy with the item.
It’s rather hard to write a review for an M.2 if you’re looking for cheap bulk storage this isn’t for you but if you’re looking for your games or your OS to load unbelievably quick this is perfect.
I installed this into a PCIE gen 4 slot and threw all my games onto it and it’s fixed a stuttering issue with modern warfare 2 and it’s caused all my games to load faster
It’s certainly expensive but that’s because you’re getting the best speed about for an M.2
Used this for my new pc, windows and games have installed fine and I haven’t ran into any issues, nice and fast as well
A worthy upgrade, keeps the pc running like sonic the hedgehog
I’ve had issues with all the brands before (some more than others) but never with WD, and still we have not just reliability here, but also top speeds.
If you like to play a variety of games and always struggle to keep them all installed at the same time then you need this.
It’s very easy to install into the PS5, took me a couple of minutes at most. There are multiple installation videos and guides out there if needed.
Overall increased storage capacity is a win and the fast speed of this type of storage device means there are no noticeable performance drops vs games installed on the built in hard drive.
The PlayStation storage system makes it easy to move games from one hard drive to another and you can also choose to install games directly on to this if your main hard drive is full.
Used to expand the storage on my PlayStation 5, followed the instructions on the PlayStation YouTube channel which was simple enough. Set it up to install any new games to it, works perfectly and actually loads slightly faster than the built in SSD.
PS5 has such little storage. This doubles it, if you get the 1TB one.
Waited till prime day and got an offer so bought straight away. Really easy to fit too.
A great SSD, built-in heatsink and perfect for my PS5!
After 2 years of owning a PS5 I’ve come to the point where I need the extra SSD space for my growing PS5 game collection, my PS4 games are all stored on an external HDD so I could have as much stock SSD storage as possible without wasting it on PS4 games that don’t benefit from the SSD.
Installing this SSD takes all of 5 minutes, I’ve built PCs and have a bit of experience but even then it’s a very simple task for someone that hasn’t done it before. Once installed turning on the PS5 greets you with the ‘Format new storage’ just like it did with my USB HDD, once that’s done in all of a minute or so the PS5 launched as usual.
Now all that’s left is to organise the new drive with a few games which is very easy as the PS5 allows you to move the PS5 games to the new M.2 without having to delete and reinstall!
As shown in my clip the copying is super quick! I was able to move 130+GB in just over a minute
I can also change the default install location to the new SSD instead of the stock one without too much fuss.
Overall I’m really happy with this upgrade, the SSD works flawlessly and seems to boot games faster than the stock PS5 SSD
Purchased on offer for just under 70 for the 500GB version.
Bought for my wife’s PS5 its a great drive, blisteringly fast with a good heatsink, very easy to install and set up and is recommended by Sony as a compatible drive. The price of these drives has fallen considerably even with the weak so a good buy for up-to-date technology.
I had to get this as i have many PS4 and PS5 games, In terms of value for money its one of if not the best out there at the moment but it is still quite a hefty price tag for only 1tb of storage.
Prices of SSD’s are coming down but slowly but if you are desperate for storage room then this is a fantastic addition to your PS5 and comes with the heat sink already installed so no messing around 🙂
Recommended.
Good quality ssd with a good Heatsink. Easy to install into ps5 and works great storing all your PS5 games and playing them from the WD drive, doesn’t quite have the read and write speeds that other brands have such as the Seagate FireCuda but still more than enough for ps5 and at a great price.
The WD black runs hotter than other brands but still well within safe temps just an observation. Overall you can’t go wrong with this drive it’s reliable and works faultlessly.
We bought this as a gift for our son as he was running of of space on his PS 5.
I found a site on the web that explained how to install the extra drive and fitting it was relatively easy.
It appeared on the menu and was soon formatted and drive write speed tests showed it was very fast.
“Does what us says on the tin” as they say.
Popping the cover off the ps is easy if you follow playstations own tutorial on youtube, then inserting the m2 and installing it on the console couldn’t be easier! Remember to use the washer with the screw that holds the m2 in place and bobs your uncle. Took me 5 minutes to set up and now I have triple the space! Happy days!
Before I bought this, my operating system was running on an old mechanical 7200rpm drive.
I could literally make a coffee, cup of tea and toast some bread before I could even get to the OS.
Upon installing this bad boy, my OS now appears within 16 seconds and everything just seems very snappy. I am glad I got this product as the quality of life changes just by speeding up my device are phenomenal!
I do think these items need to come in price though!
So far everything has been super reliable with a PC I upgraded recently – replacing the motherboard, CPU, RAM and storage. Previously I had a 2TB HDD, and I upgraded to a this Western Digital M2 SSD. The difference in performance is startling.
File access is instantaneous and transfer times are super fast even compared to other SSDs. It means for me the PC boots in seconds and even games with large game files load in 1/4 the time they previous would. I still have a little SSD anxiety but so far the experience has been positive and for that I’m happy.
Western Digital M.2 (black) ssd drive has an incredible read/write performance and no doubt would be very good for gaming however I can’t rate it for that as am not interested in gaming. My main reason for installing this drive is for the increased performance it gives to my computer and it has made a marked difference. I would recommend these WD Black drives if you are wanting a general boost in performance.
This NVMe SSD is a very affordable, powerful device for Gaming! I purchased this because of my outdated hard drives. I’ve noticed massive performance increases in intensive games. Windows runs so much faster and the 7GB/s read and write is an amazing feature for the price.
I bought the 1TB one and it’s simply plug and play (and add the screw in to secure it). No drivers needed! Unless you want to change the RGB light on the drive, which I have done and attached to Razer Chroma!
If you have a PS5 this is a must buy, forget the more expensive ‘newer’ model as you won’t notice, this is as fast as Sony’s blazingly fast proprietary SSD, to install its simply remove the disk side by gently pulling up on the top left of the plate (disk drive or front for digital owners on your left on a soft surface) while pulling down towards you, plate is off, you should be keeping your PS5 clean so you already know, you will need a small Philips head (star) screw driver and remove small plate on the inside which will now be around the middle towards front of the console, remove the screw and put it somewhere safe, then there is another screw with a washer at the 110 mark (its written on the board where you remove it) and keep that safe, get your new super fast WD Black SSD (it’s actually a beautiful looking little thing) and line it up with the pins at the bottim slot it gently, its slightly raised so you can go at an angle, this when slotted in correctly then line up with the hole marked 80, place the screw with the washer and tighten it up, not too much it’s not going anywhere, then place the small plate back on a screw that into place, again please don’t over tighten it because there is no need and you may damage the threading, then give you PS5 a quick clean and place the faceplate back on and get ready to start downloading games then get gaming, I’ve used a lot of drives before and ONLY WD have had ZERO issues, Seagate is alright but in my opinion WD just make products to last and for the money on an amazing Amazon deal you are getting it atm for less than 115, you could go for 2tb, don’t go for the more expensive newer model because you will not notice any benefits, of course if you can get the newer model for the same go for it, these things are constantly getting upgraded so it won’t make much difference, this is well built, looks great even though you’ll only see it once, unless you are using a PC, it is incredibly fast, shockingly so, the XBSX has a really fast SSD, PS5 has a really really fast SSD and WD Black here has a really really really fast SSD, 100% recommended buy on the spot and no more having to delete a game to install a new one, well, not as drastic, you know us gamers be it PS, XB, PC or Nintendo…..sometimes we just want a quick change of pace and play another game so instead of downloading 250gb to play just the campaign in COD and waiting a few hours, now you can just download and keep them on it, you will not be disappointed in WD nor Amazons nigh on always fast delivery, Amazon’s delivery is SSD Superfast.Speedy.Delivery happy gaming gamers no matter what you game on, we are a tribe and we look out for each other, also thank you very much to my wife for getting me this, she’d be better off if she divorced me
Really east to install in PS5, speeds are ridiculous, I transferred half a terabyte from the console to this ssd and it took 4 minutes, average about 6800mbps which is insane. Games load up at least 3 to 4 seconds faster than the already fast internal ssd in the ps5, I paid 110 pounds for 1tb with heat sink, buy this now
An expensive purchase that is almost required to get the most out of my ps5, so I opted for the 2tb but was close to considering the 1tb. I questioned the longevity of the storage solutions regarding file sizes of the games and concluded that I needed to purchase the 2 tb instead regarding the fact that I had six games installed and with only 85 gb left. The WD sn850 will be the most important investment I would recommend you make in reliability of storage for your new ps5 as who knows how big game files sizes could become in future updates?, so far a reliable option and peace of mind for the future of next gen gaming. 5/5 .
he drive itself is excellent, fast read speeds and easy to install especially in a ps5 console. installed it in minutes and was up and running. the loading of games is lightning fast and the good thing is also you buy a 1TB you actually get the full 1TB no 950GB etc like some other drives. cant fault it so if you need one esp at the low price then at least for console this is a must.
However… just make sure Amazon havent sent you a USED one after buying it brand new, mine arrived with the seal broken, the drive also had data on it as when checked wasnt comepletely empty to which i formatted it and compalained and had a new one sent. also no fixing screw is provided by WD so youll need to obtain one. Amazon did correct the error and sent a new one but this shouldnt happen esp with hard drives…but BUY IT ITS EXCELLENT
Overall, I am very impressed with this m.2 drive, but how is it possible that 130 disc does not have one screw to attach it to the MB? Not all MB’s has that screw WD!
I got 2 of the 2TB SN850 to put into a RAID0 Array on my new Asus ROG Zephyrus G15. They have worked perfectly and giving the expected speeds. In RAID0 I am getting 13300+ reads and 9800-10100 writes. Heat so far has not been an issue and they are without the heatsinks. But I might get a 2mm heatsink just to try make sure it does not become one in the future.
Easy to fit. Fast read write and 1tb perfect for windows and several large games. A couple of notes when buying. I’m pleased. My review is for WD SN850+heatsink. The motherboard heatsink/M2 cover should not be reattached. Also, my gpu was adjacent to the pciex-1 connection, so was tight but ok. However I moved to a lower connection so heat from gpu would not be an issue.
Probably to best thing I’ve bought off Amazon with an amazing price that beat all the others I’d seen. Was relatively easy to install and so far has enhanced my experience with my ps5 since I was originally disappointed with the standard internal space but this ssd solved all that. I highly recommend to anyone who wants to download more ps5 games just make sure to get the heating variation.
I bought this as it has been highly regarded as the best M2 drive to expand the PS5 storage. Obviously Lead Dev Mark Cerny has one, but only recently on July 22 has this now become the official Sony PS5 M2 SSD. This one (with the orange LED not PS blue) is now heavily reduced in price, as the ‘official’ one has come out – grab one now before they disappear.
Installed to increase storage of PS5.
Easy to install
Great performance
PS5 see the drive upon boot and formats it for you.
Once formated you can change the install location to the drive and away you go.
Transferring games from the PS5 internal to the new drive take a matter of seconds due to the speed of SSD.
It’s fair to say if you require extra storage for the PlayStation 5 then you can’t go wrong with this SSD. It’s very easy to install and as soon as you turn the console on there’s a prompt on screen to format it then your good to go. Easy as that. I’ve had mine in the PS5 for around a couple of months with zero issues and transferring game data from the internal storage to this is a breeze. The only negative is the high price point but if you can get it cheaper then go for it.
Admittedly, this drive is currently installed into a Gen3 motherboard, so I can’t make use of its promised speeds, but I knew this going into the purchase; I purchased this to replace an old SATA SSD that died suddenly, with the plan to transfer it to a new PC when I build one in a few months time.
Knowing that my speeds are limited, I didn’t have huge expectations right off the bat, but I was pleasantly surprised. Compared to my old SSD, this thing is lightning fast, in both gaming and programming tasks.
I have used this extensively with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and 7 Days to Die, as well as Hyper-V virtual machines (one of which I use daily as a dev environment). It’s easy to forget I’m in a VM, because the load/read speeds are no different at all to the host machine (at least not visibly, I’m sure benchmarks will show differently).
All in all, definitely worth the money.
I bought this to increase the storage on my son’s ps5. It was easy to install (plenty of videos online demonstrating. Once the hardware is fitted just follow the instructions prompted on the ps5. We moved games over to this new drive from the old, transferring was almost instant and then no difference in loading time. When the time comes and we fill this one we won’t hesitate to het the 2tb version. Great product. I recommend getting the version with heat sink included for a hassle free instillation.
I bought this to replace a dead Sabrent Nvme SSD that died after 13 months use, this drive is vastly superior in every way, super fast, cool, very easy to install, and so far hasn’t skipped a beat. I’ve had other Western Digital drives in the past and for me they always do the job superbly, would definitely recommend to those wanting the fastest speeds for a boot drive, or for the fastest loading times as a main gaming drive. Superb.
This 1TB SSD is a great addition to my PS5. I simply followed the instructions on the PlayStation site and it was very straightforward. It comes with the heat sink pre-installed so all you need to do is turn your PS5 upside down, remove white cover, remove expansion cover. Remove screw and nut from top, place nut in next hole down. Slot drive in at an angle, then place it flat and screw it in. Replace expansion cover. Replace white cover.
Connect all leads and power on and you’ll be prompted to format your new SSD and even decide if you want that to be the new default storage device – handy if you’ve already filled up the console storage. And that’s it. Job done. Highly recommend this drive. I’m running Horizon Forbidden West on it and it’s super quick.
Decided to pick up the 2TB SSD with heatsink as it was half price and I desperately needed to expand the minuscule 667GB of usable storage that the PS5 provides. Quite frankly, 250 for what you get is a bargain and I wasn’t going to miss out on it.
Installation was smooth, even though I initially feared that I’d break the PS5’s cover trying to remove it it comes off relatively easily. Simply take the screws out once the cover is off, move the spacer down a step, plug in the SSD, screw everything back in and put the cover back on. Nothing too complex by any stretch of the imagination.
One I powered my PS5 back on, I formatted the drive and proceeded to move some games from my PS5’s SSD to the expansion SSD. 330GB, as seen in the image attached. This all moved across in a whopping 7 minutes!
I’ve tested a couple of PS5 games on this drive and they all play identically as they would on the PS5’s SSD. If there is any difference, I either can’t see it or it’s incredibly insignificant.
Zero complaints from me. Absolutely essential purchase for any PS5 owner.
Bought this for 130 (heat-sink version). Installed it in less than 5 minutes (very simple process – took the opportunity to clean the fan at the same time). Transferred several games over to it – working fine (almost seems slightly faster than the PS5’s own SSD). Big difference not having to copy games (often 50GB-100GB these days) back and forth from an external HDD. Low-score reviews are generally not a review of the product (either they got sent the wrong model or hadn’t updated their PS5 firmware etc). Definitely worth it.
Summary – Easy to fit. Great performance. Highly recommended. (Heatsink required when used with PS5)
If you enjoy large, Triple A games or ones with loads of expansion packs, you can fill up the storage space on the PS5 rather quickly. It’s annoying when you have to juggle games to make room for something you want to reinstall. The solution is to add some extra SSD storage, so all your favourite games are always available and ready to play.
After watching the official Sony “How to” guide, fitting is a quick and easy process. Being very over cautious, the whole process, from unplugging the PS to starting to download a game took less than 15 minutes. It could be done in half the time, now I’ve got the knack of getting the cover unclipped.
Once fitted, it’s easy to move games or apps from the internal storage to the expansion and you can set your preference for where either PS4 or PS5 games are installed. I’ve not noticed any difference in performance when gaming regardless of where it’s installed. This card seems to appear high up on the list of recommended options on review sites and is the top choice on several of them.
I went for the 1TB option with prefitted heatsink, which is required and can be bought separately and fitted at home if you have a particular preference. Although I can’t really see why you would want to add the hassle of adding the thermal pads and heatsink yourself?
I’m a very happy customer.
Bought this for my PS5 to expand my ssd memory. This module (with heatsink) is ready in the box to be installed into your PS5.
Item was delivered in great time, and all packaging was great and without damage.
Item worked perfectly as expected and as sold.
I can highly recommend this enough to upgrade your PS5, worked straight away once I formatted it as prompted.
You will not be sorry if you get this amd I am delighted to have been able to purchase this with great savings on it a time of purchase.
Highly recommend this seller as Item is 100% authentic.
All round, this is a fantastic M.2 SSD, provides enough storage space whilst being reasonably priced considering it is a Gen 4 drive. Easy to install, simply line up the slot and insert, screw and you’re off to the races. I chose to have a fresh install of Windows, and it is blisteringly fast. It is important to note to take full advantage of the drive, a motherboard with 4.0 slots must be used, this enables the full theoretical speed of 7000MB/s. In conclusion, for the amount I paid, I am happy.
Yeah whilst 6770MBps is super fast there is a law of diminishing returns once you go above 500MBps in terms of what’s really noticeable. However, in my new PCIe-4 Framework laptop this is a super slick option.
Not had any heat issues (though I did stick a 1mm thermal pad on it to mate with the underside of the laptop’s aluminium top plate). Hangs around 40 degrees or so.
The thing is it’s so fast that I have switched off hibernation. I am of the generation that remembers the days of 2 hours from a new laptop if you were lucky and so the laptop is on when I need it and switched off when I don’t. The drive is so fast and responsive, even with Fast Start switched off (never liked that feature) it still is back to the desktop in like 12 to 15 seconds from cold.
I was on the fence about buying one of these as I have never installed an internal device before but it was very simple to do just take the plates off unscrew the cover and clip the drive in. If I can do it anyone can. I got the one with the heat sink already on it so I didn’t have to do anything to it. Once installed the console formatted it and now I have an extra 1tb storage for the ps5 that I can play Game straight from. Got it in the sale as well which was a bonus.
Quick to install, 10 mins tips including finding screwdriver unplugging and watching official sony install video, although struggled first attempt to take ps5 side panel off as a knackered to it as I did not want to break. I got 1tb drive with heating. Quick to move files across 254 gb tabard from intensive to this drive took 3 – 4 mins. Loaded up ff7 remake on it and it loaded instantly with no wait and only maybe 1 – seconds to get in hand from main game menu. Although to be honest I cannot recall how fast it was on internal as Neen a while since played so may not be any faster than it was but my test was just to see if works and not speed. 🙂
Really easy to install just watch some vids on YouTube and away you go. Once formatted (done through on screen prompts after powering the PS5 back up) you select what system you would like this upgrade to be used for. You can’t do both at the same time, you choose either PS4 or PS5 games and the data with be stored on this. So if you have pure PS5 games then allocate this to PS5 if you play both (PS4/PS5 games) then decide which would be more beneficial to you and choose that option. This is not an external drive so doesn’t function as an external drive would, you can’t remove it and give it to your friend and let them play your games whilst you go on holiday, once removed and placed into another ps5 it will need formatting before it can be used again therefore wiping the previously stored data.
On the whole I’m happy with it, it works and does what I wanted it too.
Brought this for my PS5 as was sick of moving games around from my external to internal ssd. Took 30 mins tops to install was really easy after watching playstations video. Brought without the heatsink as I purchased the Sabrent M.2 NVMe PS5 heatsink along side it which replaces the metal cover already fitted on the PS5. The first box arrived with no ssd inside someone at the warehouse had opened it and stolen the card from inside but amazon were great and sent me out one the next day with the actual card inside.
Have had no problems so far moved all my games from my external ssd and the playstaions ssd onto the wd one, which took less than 15 mins for just under 2 TB of data. All my games ps4 and ps5 are running off the WD ssd with no problems at all and with no speed loss. Now I have 2.8TB of super fast memory for 200. Which is the same price as a 1TB expansion card for my Series X.
Would highly recommend this ssd along side the Sabrent M.2 NVMe PS5 heatsink. 5 stars easy.
So yeah I had bought recently 1tb wd sn850 nvme ssd and I was made a mistake cos even 1tb ssd wasn’t enough to keep your loving game titles cos every game is ewerage 20-40 or even 50 or more gigs like cod around 240 gigs and this one 2tb nvme ssd its closely to your dreams cos is lightly fast and absolutely easy fits to your playstation 5 expansion slot and you will have solid 2tb space to keep your any game and next gen games inclusive and launch them instantly so highly recommend this device for ps5 cinsole and pc keeper’s you won’t be disappointed any questions be easy ask any time will be happy to answer.
My PS5 built in SSD filled up a while ago and so with a few Christmas games purchases on the horizon I decided to expand my PS5 storage. Sony specifies the dimensions of the M.2 and more importantly the speed the drives need to be to be compatible with the PS5, needing to reach speeds in excess of 5500MB/s. This drive claims 7000, although when installed the PS5 said I was getting 6700MB/s – close enough. Installation was a breeze, but remember you do need a heatsink which I purchased separately. All my games transferred without a hitch and the new drive is performing flawlessly. Recommended for those who need super fast storage – works great with the PS5 – and the 1TB seems to be a sweet spot for value for money.
Picked this up to go with QIVYNSRY M2 heatsink nvme 2280. I managed to pick up cheaper without a heat sink and who knows when heat sink version will be in stock. Im not into modding, or technical stuff, but it was pretty simple to attach the heatsink. The sizing of this particular heatsink is a tiny bit off – a little too big, so you need to make sure you position the surplus to the screw in end, so you’re not covering up the connection point. One minor thing to note for anyone installing – when you plug the SSD into the ps5, it sits at an angle. You need to remove the little nut screw from the ps5 and sit the SsD on it before screwing. It’ll make sense when you do it, just saying not to panic. Oh yeah, everything fit, closed, and seems to be working fine, so no issues here. You won’t regret having the extra space on your ps5. This drive is seamless.
Nice and easy to install
– Ensure you buy a seperate compatible heatsink, this involves adding thermal paste strips on either side of this drive, and encasing within the heatsink. Use Youtube vids if in doubt.
– pop off one side plate off the PS5
– locate the m2 plate which has a small PS logo screw to undo, remove silver plate
– inside is a retainer screw, remove as this is needed to hold down the m2 drive which is smaller in length than where the retainer screw is currently.
– slide drive into the m2 slot, screw down with previously mentioned retainer screw.
– all done, just a case of fitting the silver plate, and side of Ps5 clicked into place
Upon startup you’ll be asked to format the new drive, done.
I doubt this beats my firecuda in the speed tests, but in the price bracket not a bad 2tb drive by any means.
Transfer speeds just under the ones specified on the specs sheet so really good.
I think my firecuda would be wasted in the ps5 for the money, but equally this isn’t that much cheaper and its hard to justify this nvme over the segate.
Great drive more than fast enough and works perfectly, I only use this for ps4 content on the ps5 and apps, just to reduce the internal storage usage.
Great drive but if you can afford the firecuda over this then I would get the segate over the WD any day, more of a personal preference in terms of quality for me.
Either nvme is a great choice, if you’re using this for a boot drive on a PC then get the segate, if it’s for a ps5 then I’d lean towards the WD purely for cost to performance ratio.
If you find that your ps5 is running low on memory which you will, then this m.2 ssd is for you, well your ps5 actually. Takes roughly 5 minutes to install, it’s a bit fiddly trying to remove the template of the ps5 as you can’t help but feel apprehensive at doing this especially as it’s not a cheap gaming unit, so for me that actually took the longest time, but once off it’s quick – just be careful not to drop the black screws in the fan as it’s right next to where you will be removing the metal plate the the inner screw with the little ring, be sure to put on the 2nd hole from the top, then angle the drive in, screw back in place and put the metal cover back also. And as you have the cover off this is a good time to blow out the fluff on the fan, as I had a little gathering up there – just a tip. Not bad for a year to have very little fluff on the outer fan. So once all back together it’s the case screwing the base back on how you had it and powering up, message pops up m.2 ssd format – yes, so you have the storage off the ps5 and this, so theoretically you get 1tb, well just bit less as the ps5 storage has the 512 kept aside. However if like me I have wd 1tb passport connected to us usb which use for the PS4 games and the main ps5 and m.2 ssd solely for ps5 content only. And another point, it’s quick at loading the game up as no lagging.
So I hop this helps you guys. Is issues ask a question and I’ll try to help.
I normally use SAMSUNG memory but I’m trying WD after a good review in PC PRO magazine. I intended to flash the BIOS on a ASUS ROG STRIX Z490 GAMING motherboard for an 11th gen. Intel CPU, that would have allowed limited PCIe 4. However, a VMU failed on the first boot so I have a scrap motherboard and a continuing discussion with ASUS. The WD NVMe has a new home in my old ROG MAXIMUS VIII RANGER where it runs in a PCIe 3 system, so it doesn’t show it’s full capabilites. I’m content with the performance though. A bonus is the free download of Acronis True Image that made short work of cloning Windows 10 from a SATA SSD to the WD NVMe. I’ve attached a heat sink to the WD and I don’t think it’s even reacheed. 50 deg. C.
Just installed this in the PS5 (as I am on the beta test for the latest patch) and can confirm it works fine. I coupled it with a Glotrend 12.99 heatsink (one sided as I bought the 1TB drive), and the PS5 instantly recognised it and reported it was capable of 6999mb/s. I moved a number of PS5 games across to it, and they are all playing with no issues.
To install I just flipped off the top of the PS5, removed the expansion plate, unscrewed the screw inside the slot (and removed the small silver ring), gently slotted the drive (now with heatsink stuck on top) into the slot of the left, and pushed down, put the silver ring into the whole under the screw (so the drive sat on top of it), and screwed the screw back in. I didn’t replace the drive cover to allow air in, and then replaced the PS5 top. And rebooted.
Took about 4 minutes.
Recommended.
Very fast, been using it for a couple of months with no issues, highly recommend.
I’m using on pcie 3.0 and it’s still faster than my other nvme drives.
Game loading times are noticeably faster than from the sata ssd it’s replaced and backing up 150GB folders full of small files now takes about enough time to make a coffee instead of half an hour.
You’ll absolutely need a heat sync with one of these – I recommend the bequiet one, which is reasonably priced and does a fantastic job while looking fantastic (I used the drive for a day without one while waiting for it to arrive and it made a massive difference after fitting).
I think the heat sync offered with the drive is well overpriced, I was tempted by the design but honestly never going to see it after fitting.
Advertised as capable of 7,000mb/p and that it what I’m getting benchmarking using CrystalDiskMark7. Write speeds are well in excess of 5,000mb/s. Note it does run a bit hot so I recommend an after market heat sink if you don’t want to pay the crazy mark-up for the embedded heatsink. The glotrends M.2 Heatsink NVMe Heatsink Aluminum Cooling Fin for 2280 SSD with Silicone Thermal Pad works great for this and is inexpensive (in fact don’t be put off by the low price, it really does work well).
N.B. You will need to have both a motherboard and CPU that supports PCIe gen 4. It will work with PCIe gen 3 (so the spec says) but you will only get about half the speed. Better to save yourself a pile of cash and go for a PCIe 3 one if that is the case.
