My 14 year old loved putting this together. It took him a week to do so. He did have problems with some of the parts not fitting well, but we were able to fix it. We did end up gluing parts together because some of the parts kept falling off. He still loves it and wants another one!
I likes how strong it was but with how it fired it…..it wouldn’t not strong enough to eject projectile
Was skeptical at first, some reviews made it out like you need a full workshop, you do NOT, im a beginner when it comes to wood building, and was worried it would be too hard for me, luckily the instructions are super clear and easy to understand, you may need more sandpaper and wax but apart from that everything is in the kit, I was expecting to struggle with this but surprisingly I didn’t! It was super fun to build and it actually works, so I’m very happy with the end product, the attention to detail is really cool aswell, so I definitely recommend this to any one who’s into building wood mechanics
Tough on the fingers to put together but fun entertainment.
I am not very good with my hands, so I was apprehensive to start this project. I have only done one other wood construction set and it was A LOT smaller and less complex. If you can follow directions carefully, you can do this. I learned some hard lessons along the way that I wanted to pass on to help you be successful.
1. The instruction have an exclamation point in a circle on critical steps. MAKE SURE that you understand the exact orientation of the piece/pieces during these steps. Getting it wrong may not be apparent till an hour or so later when you cannot complete a future step.
2. Pick up some extra paraffin wax. I got mine from a craft supply store, it is cheap and you will need extra. The kit only comes with a nickel sized amount.
3. Apply wax to ALL your toothpicks before you insert them. This makes it a lot easier.
4. When inserting toothpicks, I would cut the tip off to create a larger surface area and press the wood piece onto the toothpick, using a hard surface like a table to apply force. Sometimes the toothpicks break when you do this, so be careful.
5. For cutting the toothpicks I used a pair of sharp wire cutters. Then an exacto knife to smooth out the nub that is remaining.
6. I wore cut resistant gloves during exacto blade use. (Not required, but if you don’t want to get cut I recommend it.
This project took about 4 days (roughly 6 hours a day) to complete. Very fun, just buy it already, you will not regret it. Be prepared to work and have sore hands!
Love the design and lots more easy to construct. Just wish that there is more apparent on what’s in the box, cause I didn’t know I have a white circle to use for “cocking the mechanism” until 2/3rds of the way through.
It’s amazing that gun! I was enjoying with my son to built it!! Perfect cut of the wood and very solid. Took as around 7 hours to complete it. Shot up to 5-7m. We love it!
A good couple of hours of assembly for a 17 yo. It’s sturdy and I can see how proud he is of the assembly when he uses it.
I received an email with the directions link. I did not open the box since it was a gift. The directions also come inside of the box, so don’t misinterpret that there are no directions enclosed, like I did. My mistake.
This is a great product. I messed up big time putting it together.
I had fun putting this together, but the toothpicks for assembling everything can be a little hard on the hands. I highly recommend using a pair of pliers and using a drill bit that is the same size as the toothpick for assembly. A pair of side cutters for cutting the toothpicks flush is good to have too. Lastly. extra sandpaper to smooth the toothpicks flush.
Playing with it is nice, but doesn’t shoot too far. Which is good IMHO. Range is maybe 12 feet?
Bought this as a gift for my partner because he likes the mechanics of guns. He spent 2 days putting it together, really enjoyed it and was impressed by the intricacy of the build.
At the beginning I had my doubts but after having the experience of building this piece I can say that it works and does it very well (although it does not seem so important to sand or make the paraffin if it is, believe me) in every detail such as the insurance, the charger or the trigger mechanism. I can only say is that if you buy this for a child it is not for them since some pieces are easy to lose due to their size and sometimes you have to apply a lot of force but with care not to break any piece, I also highlight the durability of the weapon already built so if it falls it won’t come apart so easily.
Great gift for my son whom loves puzzles and is a collector. Also great item to train my 5 month old puppy.
Mit handwerklichem Geschick leicht zusammenzubauen. Sehr detailgetreu. Alle Funktionen wie beim Original. Empfehlenswert!!
My ninth wood puzzle, second Wood Trick, first toothpick puzzle! I was a bit unsure when starting out with the toothpicks but eventually developed a routine to deal with their use and the occsional stabs and bleeding. Yup, my fingers hurt but the finished model is amazing. At one point I had to use a bandaid to stop bleeding all over the wood and quickly realized that it also provided protection against further stabs so I put some on my other fingers too. The fabric ones work great. As for the toothpicks, I used a small vise grip to insert them and a scrap piece of wood behind the piece to steady it while I pushed the toothpick in.
I like the thickness of the plywood since it results in a sturdy substancial model. I quickly abandoned the hobby knife recomendation for trimming the toothpicks in favor of a cuticle cutter. Gets real close to the wood and results in a smooth surface. Down side is that you get the occasional flying cutoff so make sure you have safety eyeware if you go that route. I found the instructions very clear and the parts, mostly fit very well with very little sanding necessary. Expect to invest a lot of time in assembling this puzzle but the finished product is very nice and works exactly as it should. Only thing I would like is a larger piece of wax since I needed it for some of the toothpicks. Luckily I had some left over from other puzzles. I would highly recommend this. Good job Wood Trick.
This fun piece of equipment is fun but please read the manual first before you take action and then follow the steps. Plus use the shorter rubber bands first before the big one. I mean for the handle, trigger, use short band you really don’t need the bigg bands unless its the carriage
I got this for my husband as a Birthday present and ended up giving it to him early, in roughly 4 hours he had all of this put together, he still has the magazine to get made, but he loves it and as normal the material and directions were all flawless.
My nephew LOVED this. Kept him busy while he constructed it. He carries it where ever he goes. Very sturdy materials. I will buy more items similar to this.
It’s fun , I’d make sure you have the right tools. Japanese saw works best. I can’t get it to fire. I’d buy this for the model aspect. If you want a shooting toy gun I’d go with nerf.
Il faut bien prendre le temps petite pice du ponage affaire des trou a agrandir parfois et on a eu beaucoup de mal a emboter le chargeur. Mais sublime rsultat. On peu trouver des aides en video sur you tube avec le code de la boite aussi….
This is a great product for anyone wanting to kill time or just genuinely like building things. It looks amazing and works well enough (don’t expect to be shooting across the room or anything as it is just rubber bands). The material is sturdy and won’t break as long as you don’t use overwhelming force.
Building the gun itself is work-some and hard as your hands tend to ache after pushing the wood pieces together. Many complain about this aspect so if you are not prepared for that than do not buy this product and complain later. But if you’re like me and enjoy working towards a nice product in the end, than give this gun a go.
I purchased this gift for a friend. It was well packaged, was as advertised, and arrived quickly. I am happy with the purchase.
Your fingers going to be hurting.. look nice at the end..
I bought it for my 12 year old son for his birthday. He finished it in one day by himself and absolutely loves it. I am disappointed that it doesn’t shoot very far, but if he sanded it and waxed it more it might have shot further! We still can’t figure out how to change rubber bands but over all I’m impressed!
The instructions sometimes not detailed enough for this complexity level.
My 13 year old son used his allowance to purchase this kit to put together during our pandemic shut-in. He oscillated between excitement and extreme frustration. I joined him after he had put in a couple of hours and given up. I am so impressed with the engineering and construction of this kit. The pieces are all cut to the perfect size, the holes all match up. The tooth picks were challenging at times, but once we began waxing them prior to insertion, that task became more manageable. My son had no prior model making experience, and I can safely state that this was well beyond his ability to complete, if only because of its size. It took us several days, stretched over a couple of weeks to finish. I am so happy we had the opportunity to make this model together as it gave my son the chance to work through some difficult challenges, taught him problem solving skills, and it certainly improved his finger dexterity (beyond his normal video game work-out). In the end he was thrilled that the gun actually worked, though it didn’t shoot as far as he had hoped. I was shocked to see the elements we assembled actually functioning, like the safety, and the telescoping stock. This model is so cool, its elements are fantastic, and the engineering is top notch. If you are purchasing for a child, you may need to step in and lend a hand, but I believe the lessons learned are well worth the effort.
The whole thing uses toothpicks (Included) to lock everything together. First wood model I’ve done to use that system, and it was pretty satisfying. After a bit I admit my fingers hurt a little, this is a multi-day puzzle for most folks I’d guess. Took me a good chunk of two, just doing it while watching movies. You do end up with toothpick bits everywhere but all wood models have a lot of spur shavings and whatnot anyway. You will need a sharp hobby knife for like 4-5 steps where you need to leave excess toothpick sticking out, vs just snapping and sanding the toothpick. Directions are extremely detailed and clear, excellent. The WORDS are a so-so machine translation from prob Ukrainian but 99% of the directions are picture only, and even the wonky translation is close enough in the few parts you need it. I should let it be known that I’m not a “gun” guy. But I served in the military and I was surprised that this is a pretty crazy intricate reproduction, down to the ejection port dust cover, etc. Doesn’t “shoot” very far, but I’d guess a few extra rubber band twists or using one or two extra bands (already included) could increase your “muzzle velocity” if that was something you wanted.
I would give it a 5 star rating but having to use toothpick s instead of metal made it much more difficult untill I figured it out. These are the tools I used which helped alot. Flush cutters to cut the toothpicks and a glass with some water in it so the toothpick ends dont fly everywhere. A block of wood and a nail to hang pictures to press other toothpicks though and to take out if they snap. The small flat head in case you mess up you probably will. A small pair of pliers to help push them through. And a drill bit the size of a toothpick for when you have to push multiple toothpicks through multiple peices just hit each hole with it. Once one toothpick snaps it’s hard to fix. I was also sanding down toothpicks and waxing them. And some sand paper to sand the bullets down. Overall it kept me busy for two days and was fun to build. I can’t imagine how hard it would of been without the tools I used. Also make sure you follow the directions 100% you will start getting ahead of your self and have to go back. and I added 2 rubber bands to the firing pin and now it shoots over 20 feet make sure you wax the inside up good
Wow! My son had such a great time building it!!! Make sure you follow the sanding instructions. He thought he didn’t need to do the sanding because the part had moved fine — but now that it’s completely assembled it doesn’t shoot. And you can’t take it apart in the end because you use toothpick-type-dowels to hold it together. But I won’t taint my review for his mistake! He’s 16 and needs to learn to follow instructions — ha! Great buy!!!
And Amazon, you should only allow verified purchasers to review. Just saying.
This was a fun one to build. Once you get the hang of the instructions, it makes more sense. All parts do fit as they should. Over 3 days, I think I put about 12 hours into it. It is functional when completed, but dont expect a sniper rifle, as it is only made of wood and rubber bands. I can get about 8 feet per shot, with a good bounce. This is more of a good conversation piece than a fun toy.
