Woolino 4 Season Baby Sleep Bag – Merino Wool Baby Sleeping Bag, 2-24 Months, Stars Gray
PREMIUM QUALITY
We care about all the same things that you care about – that’s why our products meet the highest quality standards. Everything we produce is made with Woolmark and Oeko-Tex 100 merino wool, and GOTS and Oeko-Tex 100 organic cotton. We use nickel free YKK snaps and zippers that are also to be lead and phthalates free and carry Oeko-Tex 100 , which ensures that products are free from harmful substances.
THE MAGIC OF MERINO
Unlike other brand sleep sacks that come in either winter or summer weight/TOG rating, the Woolino 4 Season Sleep Bag can be used year-round. It’s suitable for room temp. 63-77F (17-25C). Because of Merino’s unique ability to regulate body temperature, it helps keep your baby warm when it’s cold and cool when it’s hot. That temperature regulation means that your child will sleep comfortably throughout the night, year-round – and that means a better night’s sleep for you too.
BETTER AND LONGER SLEEP
A study done by University of Sydney has found that a better night’s sleep is achieved when sleeping in wool. Significantly finer than other types of wool, Merino is the perfect fiber to have next to child’s sensitive skin. It breathes, regulates temperature, manages moisture, it is hypoallergenic, easy to care for, and durable. It is naturally perfect.

I was thinking twice either to buy or not with this brand because it’s a bit pricey compared to the rest. Then I realized that it might be worth the penny.Tonight my baby is wearing it for the first time and I could tell that It’s very comfy. My almost 3-month old baby is sleeping so soundly. I got what I’ve paid for and so happy about it. Excellent high quality product and brand.
It’s hard to know as a parent what’s good and what’s bad. We buy a large number of things trying to see which works best. Let me save you some trouble. This works best. The placement of buttons and the zipper is perfect. The material is good enough to keep your kid cool in the summer and warm in the winter… and most importantly… we got two full kid cycles out of it. First the big brother then the little sister. And once we are done I have a feeling it will be a welcome hand me down. Additionally… this is our go to gift now for new parents. A case where you absolutely get what you pay for.
Heel zacht en stevig en zwaar genoeg dat de baby niet zomaar kan omrollen (goed voor de transitieperiode na inbakeren). Heeft een handige instructiekaart hoe je je baby moet kleden in de slaapzak
Some might think it’s too warm for the summer but if you have a/c and put lighter weight clothing on your child it’s perfect. Don’t worry about the smell when you wash it, the wool smell goes away once it’s dry. I bought this so when our grandchild sleeps over they don’t have to worry about bringing their sleep bag to us.
I mostly used it for stroller. It seems around 1 otg to me. I thought it will be around 1.5 tog. I liked the product and probably will buy another one for older toddler.
Highly recommend this sleep sack to everyone! We live in a cold winter state so this was perfect for colder months without overheating baby, and has been comfortable as the weather gets warmer too. It’s so soft and has the perfect weight to comfort baby. I’m sure there are less expensive versions out there, but wool and cotton materials instead of synthetic fibers are worth the cost to me.
Super weicher und angenehmer Stoff. Ist auch leicht waschbar, und darf sogar in den Trockner! Unser Baby schlaft sehr gut darin.
Baby sleeping bag for ages 2 months till 24months old . It’s so worth the price. Soft well made and versatile a perfect gift. By time he’s 2 months he’ll be ready for this four seasons sleeping bag. I love that it can be applied for use in a pushchair pram or cot. Brought as a newborn baby gift for my new grandson his mom loves i
This is a great sleepsack, but is not as warm as I thought it would be for colder months. My baby wakes up a few times a night with cold hands and arms unless I swaddle her inside of it. This is with a longsleeve onesie and long sleeve footie underneath. We keep the room around 66-68 degrees at night.
For nighttime sleep my baby prefers the Baby Deedee 3.5 Tog. It keeps her warm and she will sleep in 8 hour stretches at 4 months old.
I do think this sleepsack will work well for spring, summer, and fall. I like that it’s a “one and done” and that you don’t have to buy a new size every 3-6 months. If she grows to like it better in the spring, I will probably buy a second one. The quality is great.
A note on washing: I use regular “free from” detergent on delicate cycle and it washes up just fine. I don’t think there is a need to use woolite, or wash separately.
Lastly, it’s worth noting that you can get 15% off with free shipping if you buy directly from the Woolino website!
I got my first Woolino when my daughter was 3 months old and she is still able to wear it at 18 months(she is tiny though). But considering how long it has lasted us it was completely worth the money! I just now sized her up to the 2-4 year sleep suit as I think she is wanting a little more room to sprawl out. But she really still has extra room in the 2-24month size. I have washed according to manufacturer recommendations and have not had any issues with product deterioration. It does smell a little funky the first few times you wash it, but the smell goes away once it’s dry. My daughter really loves these sleep bags and it gives me so much peace of mind knowing she is sleeping comfortably and safely. We pair this up with a light long sleeve pajama set and keep the house around 73 at night and she does great. She has also peed thru her diaper a couple times but woke up completely dry inside since the sleep sack wicks the moisture away.
My baby was always either sweaty or cold and I couldn’t get the temperature in the room to be consistent. She is never cold to the touch or sweaty since using this (half a year now) she also sleeps for 12 hours coincidentally at about the same time as using this sleep sack.
I’ve accidentally run it through the wash and dryer a few times and it still looks the same so I am impressed at the durability.
I was skeptical to buy this given the price. But being avid campers, we know the quality of merino wool so I gave it a shot. I was buying so many sleep sacks and my son was waking up cold in the middle of the night and by morning we ended up co-sleeping to warm him up. Our house is large so it’s difficult to heat up, on average it’s about 69-70 at all times but feels colder at night. The sleep sack is the perfect weight to help him feel comfort while sleeping. Overall he thrashes and jumps less when wearing this at night. He also wakes up at the perfect body temp which is obviously reassuring.
I do wish there was multiple snaps under the arms for adjustable room for his arms. The snaps are a little too snug and without them snapped, the sleep sack arm holes are too large(my son is 4 months on the 20th and is about 14lbs).
Overall I’m pretty satisfied with this and hope it last a while. Definitely recommend. I would buy more because I like to have one in hand in case of accidents in the night time(poop, pee or spit up) but I can’t afford another one.
This is a very versatile sleepsack, all seasons and my son has even used it in the pram and car seat. Highly recommend.
It is very overpriced because it doesn’t do what it says “regulates body temperature” it feels like a luxury 1,5tog sleep sack. I would not recommend for a cold weather or cold nursery. It’s soft and snug, very handy with the holes for the car seat or pram straps. It keeps my baby cool and comfy when it’s 24-25 degrees but he is freezing in a 22 degree room.
Love this product. Use it in all seasons. Ended up buying multiple. Price is worth it cause if the good quality and longevity
Really good sleep sack and keeps my baby warm in the nights. Excellent quality but on the pricey side. It’s definitely an investment.
Love these for baby. It is great not having to replace them constantly or worry about the temperature. We started with one and ended up with two to have a spare in case of accidents in the middle of the nigh
I really love the fabric and that it’s for all 4 seasons no need to buy much. My baby also seems to love it. The only down side is that you cannot only have one so it can get expensive.
My twins sleep longer in these sleeping bags. They are 7 weeks old and keeps them cosy.
Wish we got this one from the beginning, but the price seemed to high… Well, we had to buy multiple of different sizes equalling more than the cost of this one, so regret not getting this from the beginning.
I bought this as a gift for a friend of mine upon recommendation from another friend. Both of my friends and their babies love their woolinos. Great quality and super soft. I’m pregnant too so I’ll buy one for myself if I don’t get it as a gift, who knows
Wish I had purchased this months ago. Brilliant sleep sack and fits well
I got this for a heavier weight than the cotton one we currently use. So far I really like it and baby seems confortable.
It’s a nice feeling on both the inside and the shell and it’s easy to get on and off. It also washes well.
I absolutely love this sleeping bag and so does my little girl. It was recommended to me by a safe sleep group who are super vigilant and fussy with their recommendations.
The fabric is very very soft but not flimsy. The zip is strong and well made. It is covered at the ends so its comfortable for little one. It’s got two strong press studs at each shoulder and one under each armpit to make it fit well for little babies.
It comes with a thermometer so you can check the room temperature so you can dress baby according to the heat. The thermometer isnt the greatest for getting a precise temperature.
It comes with a clothing guide too so you know what to dress your baby in for the right temperature so this helps reduce the risk of SIDS
it is a bit more expensive than other sleep suits however your paying for absolute quality and more importantly safety.
VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Feels and looks great! Our little boy wouldn’t sleep for more than 2 hours throughout the night and as soon as we put him in his Woolino sleeping bag, he slept for 5 hours! He was a little bit sick around the collar area but the sleeping bag was quick to dry and it didn’t soak through to his clothes. He also leaked through his nappy and sleep suit but the sleeping bag didn’t absorb anything or smell. I would definitely purchase another one, no need to worry about togs or that I have to keep buying another sleeping bag as every 6 months as he grows.
My 8 month old gets very warm and the house is very well insulated, his room is always about 25 degrees celsius. It has been hard to find a comfy sleep sack that will regulate his temperature appropriately and after a few wears he really seems to like this sleep sack. A bit of a splurge at the price but saying that we will get the value from it as jt can be used year round and should last him until he is 2. Will be saving up to buy another!
It is slightly weighted compared to other sleep sacks but I think this helps my LO sleep better! The side buttons and zipper are bulky. I would have given it 5 stars if the zipper had something to cover it so it doesn’t make noise when it comes into contact with the crib.
Love this sleep sack!
If you’re anything like me – first time mom over here – I was obsessed with whether baby was too hot or too cold from day one. Overheating or being too cold can be uncomfortable for baby and prevent them from sleeping, and severe overheating has been linked to SIDs. Thus, keeping baby at the perfect temperature – especially as a newborn when they’re bodies are still not able to regulate – has been a constant concern of mine that required much thought and effort and trial and error with what temperature to set the thermostat in our house, how many layers to dress in, etc.
For my now 7.5 month old, we’ve been through a number of swaddles and sleep sacks. We live in Los Angeles, so pretty mild weather but still gets chilly in the winter, enough to warrant turning on the heat and obviously, very warm in the summer. We keep the baby’s room between 68-72 degrees, which is the recommended range (an indoor thermostat is a must for baby’s room! We have this one and we’re happy with it: ThermoPro TP55 Digital Hygrometer Indoor Thermometer Humidity Gauge with Jumbo Touchscreen and Backlight Temperature Humidity) In the warmer months we’ve been dressing baby in a lightweight 100% cotton footLESS pajama or long-sleeve onesie with pants no undershirt, no socks and in the cooler months, footed 100% cotton pajamas, sometimes the slightly thicker organic ones, and no undershirt (please, don’t dress baby in polyester, especially not at night, it does not breathe and can cause overheating). The sleep sack comes with a guide as to how to dress for what weather. We basically just followed it
This is a very high quality sleep sack, from the zippers to the snaps, to the soft material and design, the weight is really nice, not too heavy but heavy enough to feel cozy. On a typical spring to summer evening, the temperature in the nursery can range from 72 to 68 or sometimes even 67 degrees farehnheith. The sleep sack keeps baby cool and dry, and warm and cozy. Just perfect. I’m not attributing the fact that baby sleeps really well ENTIRELY to the sleep sack but I do think it has helped. And also has alleviated my concerns and give me peace of mind. Priceless.
My baby sleeps comfortably in this sleeping bag.
He keeps on kicking so it’s hard to keep him covered in blanket.
But with this sleep bag, he sleeps very nicely and is well covered during entire night. Highly recommend it.
Great product and great customer service! I received an open and completely unpacked item, it was solved very quickly by customer service, which was much appreciated!
It’s a pricy, but works well, is very soft and comfy. After my five months old granddaughter cached a cold & runny nose, I decided to purchase a wool sleeping bag. It is worth the money.
After I bought one and tried, I bought the second one. It is much better than tog classified sleeping bags that i tried already since it is natural fabric without synthetic material. My baby is more comfortable in it. I dont have to worry about overheating or vice versa. Only negative point is it i expensive especially when you need more than one for a baby…
I bought this sleeping bag to interchange with another one my daughter -in-law had bought. It was everything she wanted and so that’s good enough me!
Very soft and cozy, don’t know if it will help with the sleep but love it so far. Happy with the purchase. Waiting for the blanked as well.
Don’t even hesitate. This is a brilliant product. We took our 3 month old camping and she slept like a log in this.
The sack is long: it is meant to cover all ages from 2-24mo. I wonder if it might not have been a little too long for my LO when she was littler. BUT…it is wonderful now at 11mo.
Cons: 1) seams are a bit thick on the sides and I do wonder if they are comfy for her. But she sleeps on her stomach, side and back in it and seems just fine, so I think I am needlessly worrying. 2) the sack could use a snap/popper at the top of the side zipper because I find it hard to ensure the zipper goes all the way up sometimes. 3) no information on if it is hip-friendly/rated or not; however, it is stretchy, so it most likely is.
Pros:
1) PEACE OF MIND. I found good sacks for the winter when her window was closed, the temperature outside was always cooler than her room, and so I could use the heat to get the perfect room temp. But it is summer now. That means the temperature is up and down within the day and week. I do not worry about her in this sack! No more obsessing over TOG rates!
2) it comes with a “how to dress your baby guide” with a thermometer on the back of it. I don’t have to look everything up online now. I put my LO in long-sleeved onesies 90% of the time and short-sleeved onesies for the other 10% when the temp in her room hits 25+ at night. She overheated once when the heat actually increased after dark as it came up from the pavement, but it was an easy fix (put on the short-sleeve onesie). And I think she got cold the first night because I turned the heat way down (she is used to a particular temp)! But, generally, no problems.
3) at 11mo, she can crawl around the crib in this and sit and stand if she really wants to. I put her in it just before bed.
4) lovely weight.
5) car seat openings worked well.
6) she sleeps very well in it and can find whatever position she wishes.
Washing:
I use eco-friendly detergent and use it on my own merino. To wash I: 1) put it in the delicate cycle 2) gently stretch it back into shape, especially around the hip area, and hang it flat open to dry 3) put it into the dryer on low (or high…) if it still has not dried by bedtime. The catch is that the cotton dries much more slowly and does get dirtier than the merino inside. Snaps were stiff but have loosened up with use. She sometimes pees through her diaper at night and I will hang the sack completely open on the edge of the crib to air it out.
I wish I could have one of these.
And I recommend it for the peace of mind alone.
It is an expensive sleeping bag but it has definitely helped my baby to sleep longer through the night. It’s so soft and snuggly, my baby loves it.
I have to say that I am a huge fan of the concept of sleeping bags, not just because of SIDS but because they are easy. This product is by far the best I have tried of 5 including Love to Dream, Bonds, the original Sleeping Sac, Ergo Baby, and standard Big W.
Pros of sleeping sacs: You can change your baby without disturbing them, pick them up and take them out of the room if you need too. Leave them in it after bath time while you read and they stay warm, no waking up and crying because of the sudden drop in temperature from mummy when you settle them in your arms and need to transfer to the cot.
Negative to sleeping sacs, they have all the different TOG rating. We are in Kansas and it can be 74 in the house at 8pm and 65 at 2am.
That is why I love this product. I have marked four instead of 5 stars for comfort because the nature of having a 2month to 2 year sac makes it a little loose around the chest and it can bunch up slightly. But don’t let that sway you away from this product.
The wool makes it heavy, which helps settle baby come sleep time, it breathes keeps her warm and cool and is self wicking which as a new mum nobody tells you how much a baby sweats!
The product itself is well made using large zips and decently sized press studs to accommodate for the thickness of the material. It’s well thought out and while I haven’t used the seatbelt pockets I intend to go in a road trip soon so will update this review accordingly. I do however use these openings to check her nappy without disturbing her.
My biggest negative is that it smells when it’s wet which is a great warning when baby springs a leak. But after washing the first few times the whole room smelled like wet wool. This however is a minor irritation and you just need to dry in a well ventelated area.
The product itself is expensive compared to the competition, I have used 5 different brands of sleeping sacs and the woolino blows them all out of the water. As I mentioned earlier I really like having the chest area a bit tighter to prevent it riding up while baby is sleeping, however it’s made to last and the next best sleeping bag I have found by ergo baby you need different TOG ratings and a new size every 3-6 months. So while individually Woolino is more expensive it’s less in the long run.
You do need two though, now that my baby has discovered her feet I would like to try the legs version so in the evenings she is dressed for he’d and we can put yet straight down without disturbing her if she drifts off.
I can’t recommend this product enough as a mother of a baby who just does not stop. Even in sleep she waves her legs around and slams them into the cot just for fun. A blanket comes off. A sleeping bag does not!
My thanks you to the owner of this product!
Love it!! It’s the perfect fit at three months, warm, but not too hot. My son passes out as soon as I put him in it.
First and foremost, the thought we all have when we look at this product, “$100?! 0.o oh my goodness that is a lot of money! I could get a smaller size, but I’ll only save $40, and if this works I’ll be shelling out the $100 later anyway.” Now I took the chance on it (planning to return it if it was anything other than what I was expecting), and I’m glad I did.
I live in San Diego, and it was getting cold at night, but it was too warm to put my little one in anything when we put him down. So he would wake up cold and not happy. I ordered this, got the one I could get same day (white one with stars) and hoped for the best.
The thermometer and dressing guide was very helpful. Because the thermometer is a card, I was able to put it right next to where he sleeps. It’s very accurate, because we have two other thermometers in the room, and this one is either the same or a degree off the other two. On the back of it is the dressing guide. My little one is warm and snug at night, and cool when i put him down. He will be warm in the room, but i have to put another blanket on! The only thing that concerns me sometimes is his arms aren’t always warm, they feel like ice if the room gets too cold. When that happens I turn on the heat for a little bit, and he isn’t bothered at all by the temperature change.
My little one spits up a lot, so we had breastmilk spitup on the top for about a week. It didn’t smell terrible while we we couldn’t launder it yet (we live in apartments and ran out of quarters). I may buy some of the wool specific detergent so that I can hand wash this if needed.
It has been a while since I’ve had something that is wool, so I had to double check that my detergent was okay (tide free and clear) it seemed to work perfectly. If it smells funny when it gets out, that’s just how wool smells when it is wet! If you are going to hang dry this garment, make sure you unzip it so it dries quickly, otherwise it could take a while if it’s cold.
I’m hoping to get a second one (the cute blue one with the stars on it) soon so that we have two on hand.
May update in the summer how this does, as we are in January now.
It is a great product, slightly pricey but so far its been worth it. I have found that after washing it has a really horrible smell.
I will be purchasing another one.
This sleep sack is so soft and my 6 month old seems very comfortable in it at night so far. The fabric feels very sturdy and is clearly high quality. I love that it will last until she is two, making this purchase totally worth the cost. Customer service was great when I contacted them about an issue- they responded almost immediately and were very helpful and accommodating. This might end up being one of my go-to baby shower gifts moving forward!
Love love love this sleep sack! No worries about my little one getting too hot or too cold at night. Love that the sleep sack comes with info on what baby should wear under the sleep sack, depending on the temperature of the room, to make sure they are just right as they sleep. I don’t have much experience with other sleep sacks, and this one is pricey but I like the fact that once you buy it you’re good for all seasons!
Mom of 2- sleep sack lover! I always used Aden sleep sacks but decided to try this as it said all season ( unlike Aden you buy thin or thick) and goes until 2 years old! So wow even though it costs more. You use it longer! Really a win win. I have 2 of these now in star patterns.
Washing- holds up really well! No pilling- no colour fading! Still super soft yet crisp.
Easy to get baby in and out.
Only wish I had this with first baby! Love this produc
I love this wearable blanket! I also have a carters one and that one is such a hassle to put on, that I wakeup my kid everytime. But this one is so easy and perfect. Also it’s great not having to worry if the kid is hot or cold or pay outrages money for monthly space heater.
I bought the white with grey stars and it’s so angelic :).
My son is 3 months old and I worried this will be too big and too much hassle since it’s 2month-2years, but it doesn’t create any extra hassle for being big.
One of my top ten baby purchases. Would buy again and again and again. Excellent, outstanding, and love it. Goes on a sleeping kid, or a squirming kid. Stays with them and keeps them at a good temp. Once they get the hang of standing, they can stand in it. I like that it will help with thwarting a would-be-crib-escapee. I like that it’s flame resistant without chemicals. I like that it’s machine washable (use wool detergent!!!) I like that it’s so cute and soft and keeps her at a good temp. There’s nothing not to love. Loooooove!
UPDATED REVIEW:
The previous title was “Almost great, but possibly dangerous.” Well, it’s time to change my review for the better, and for two reasons. One, this sleep sack has become absolutely indispensable. It is more substantial than any other we tried (Gunapod, Baby Deedee sack, and Halo, though admittedly their cotton versions). The problem described below was simply because it comforted Baby so much, he wanted it on his face. Once that scary period was over after a few weeks (we’d sewed the bottom as mentioned until he stopped), we all loved it. It’s held up extremely well and now fits my almost one-year-old like a dream, with room to grow.
The second reason for the update is that the company contacted me about my concerns, which I truly appreciate. Though they couldn’t quite recreate the issue I described, they tried to resolve the problem. Though it wasn’t available at the time, they were creating a new 6 to 18 month old size that likely would have been perfect. They had some other recommendations as well. Good customer service keeps me going back to a company, and this will be no different!
PREVIOUS REVIEW:
This review is very difficult for me to write as I don’t like to say bad things about products I loved. BUT. I bought this to replace the many Halo, Gunapod, and other sleepsacks we’d tried. They were not only too thin to keep our baby warm in the recommended 66 – 70 degree room temp, but he quickly grew out of them. Enter Woolino. I loved this product, recommended it to my sister, and bought one for a friend’s baby.
Here are my positives:
I LOVE the feel of this. It’s very soft and (at least compared to the others we’d tried) has a good weight to it. My baby no longer seemed ice cold at night. He has room to kick and maneuver his legs as he loves to do. And he looks dern cute in the thing!
BUT (I told you it was coming). The length has come to frighten me for my guy. I thought having something that grows with him would be a great money-saver, but as it turns out, the extra fabric is enough so that he can pull it up over his face. And as a six-month-old looking to comfort himself as he falls asleep, he does it often. Every night, in fact. I find myself sneaking into his room after he falls asleep (the first time at night and after night-feedings) and pulling it down. Isn’t the point of having a sleepsack instead of a blanket to prevent this exact behavior?
If there was a way to do it comfortably, it would be nice to have some sort of Velcro or unobtrusive snaps inside at the bottom to account for different baby lengths. I sewed across the bottom myself finally so he can’t pull it up–my solution is ugly but I’m hoping it works.
Again, for the right (passive) baby, I love this! But I can’t fully endorse it as I see a huge safety issue currently.
I put off buying this thing for 6 months, due to price, and now I wish I hadn’t waited.
Apparently, in order to keep babies from going up in flames, infant sleepers have to be either fleece (which stops being fluffy after only 3 washes), treated with fire resistant chemicals (um, no), or snug fitting (itchy!). Well, I was cheating by buying super big sleepers for my son, and just letting him sleep with floppy footies. Unfortunately, now that he is 9 months, the “snug fitting” sleepers are ridiculously tight, and he was waking up with freezing feet every night, even the fleece sleepers– which are 20 bucks a pop where I live, and have to be replaced every month, because they pile up. Plus, he started crying whenever I zipped them up, because who on EARTH wants to sleep in a compression sack– I certainly wouldn’t. I itch when my tank tops are too tight!
So I finally pressed the button and got this little gem. I’ve used wool baby products before, so I would encourage anyone to “lanolinize” this every few months, which helps the wool resist moisture/pee, softens it, and allows you to wash it less, and makes it hang dry quicker. However, this is as soft as Egyptian cotton and the company says it’s washable, so you don’t really need to. (I always handwash with a little Dr. Bronners and lanolin, though, personally).
This bag has sturdy snaps (no scratchy velcro), which allow it to be comfy but form fitting on the upper body. Double snaps on the side comform to a smaller or bigger baby. Even though my son has TONS of room in the foot area to grow into, I have zero concerns that he will get twisted up in it… and he’s a hard-core squirmer. Even with his constant caterpillar scooting and rolling, he’s never complained or been uncomfortable in this, and when he does wake up at night, his feet are WARM, because he’s basically sleeping in a giant mitten. It has a zip at the bottom for nighttime changes or, possibly, if you’re kiddos feet are getting hot. There’s an open/close spot at the crotch area for safety belts to go through. Plus, this saves money, because (underneath) the baby is sleeping in the same one-sies or shirts he/she would be using during the day, so you don’t have to keep getting longer foot-ie pyja, or replacing the scratchy fleece ones.
Don’t hesitate to buy this wonderful product. It’s cozy, quality construction, and economical, in the long run.
Update: still going strong at 2 years, with occasional washing, but no special treatment whatsoever. It’s even been thrown in the regular, high heat dryer several times, although I wouldn’t recommend doing so regularly. My son sees the sack and knows it’s time to “snuggle up” for bedtime. Love it!
I’ve been looking for the perfect sleep sack for my 9 month old baby but i’ve unfortunately yet to find one. Here are my comments on the ones I’ve tried thus far:
– Woolino sleep bag: This one is probably the best one we’ve tried so far at least given the requirements i’ve had. Firstly, I did not want a bag with nasty fire retardant chemicals and the Woolino one does not have it given wool is naturally fire retardant. I like that you can wash and dry this one in the washer and dryer although the drying takes a little bit longer than usual. It’s nice that this bag can be used from baby to two years old (there is a little armpit snap adjuster so you can make the arm space smaller for smaller babies). My only negative is this says it is a four season bag, but I don’t think this bag is warm enough for a winter night, even in Southern California where we live. I would recommend the manufacturer make a winter version that is thicker. Other pros of this bag are a nice design, the bag seems very well made (good zipper, good seams, etc) and the set comes with a little travel bag to put the sleep sack in as well as a free paper therometer which is all very nice. Also nice is that the zipper is on the side which I think is more comfy for baby when she sleeps on her belly.
– Baby Dee Dee: So i bought both the summer weight and winter weight sleep bags. I like the summer weight sleep sack a lot and think it is perfect for hot Southern California summers. It also uses organic cotton which is nice. I thought the winter weight bag was great and sufficiently warm, except the filling in the sleep bag is filled with polyester, which inherently has fire retardant chemicals in it, which i wanted to avoid. Another negative is the zippers are in front in the middle which is probably not that comfortable if baby sleeps on his/her belly, although the zipper itself seems to be of good quality. You don’t have to buy as many of these sleep sacks given they have a decent age range for each bag (example: 6-12 months). Cute colors too!
– Halo sleep sacks: Decent for the price. However, my two qualms are 1) They contain fire retardant chemicals and 2) you have to buy a lot of these sacks as baby grows versus a sleep sack like Woolino where you buy one from age 6 month to 2 years.
– Skip HOp sleep sack : I got a Skip Hop sleep sack as part of a pack of bedding items that included a sleep sack, sheet, blanket and crib skirt. I liked everything except for the sleep sack which was extremely thin and flimsy not to mention small – basically you can only use the sleepsack from newborn to maybe 2/3 months – which is when most people swaddle their babies. So for us, we never even used this sleep sack.
I was looking for a sleeping bag for my first daughter, she usually wears 2T size clothes. She is currently sleeping in a “polyester” sleeping bag that I sew for her, but I wanted something of a better quality, and that I could reuse for my second baby girl – so I don’t mind paying more if the quality is there.
I cannot believe how hard it can be here in the usa to find a practical, comfortable sleeping bag for a baby, and for an acceptable (under $50) price! So I went ahead and tried to look at the more expensive sleeping bags.
Unfortunately, this woolino sleeping bag turned to be too short for her. So I just put it aside. Yesterday, I decided to search for a sleeping bag for my second baby, who is now a week old and doesn’t like to be swaddled (ah, I cannot reuse my miracle blanket!!).
I couldn’t find one with all the criteria I wanted and that the woolino bag has:
SNAPS ON SHOULDERS for easy dressing,
SNAPS AT ARMPITS to adapt baby’s size,
INVERTED ZIPPER – from down to top – so great for diaper changes!!!
and a BREATHABLE material suitable for a 65-68 degrees room during the night.
And I did not find any other – besides the merino kids bag ( that one is a little more expensive) – that would meet those criteria. So I decided to try the one I purchased on my newborn (8 lb 6oz and 22in) but was afraid it would be too big. But it fits her perfectly. Moreover, I can SHORTEN THE LENGTH of the bag by using the snaps provided, and it is perfect.
PROS:
NO OVERHEATING,
easy access for diaper changes,
easy to put baby in even if she is already asleep (just lay her on top and close all the snaps and zipper),
BREATHABLE AND NATURAL material, MACHINE WASHABLE,
FITS EVEN SOONER than 3months (of course, it depends on the size of your baby),
ONE SIZE so you don’t have to buy several other bags as your baby grows.
(Ok, you can be doubtful as you touch the fabric, the merino wool is soooo thin, but it really keeps your baby warm without overheating.)
Nice gender – neutral color.
CONS:
NONE for me! Some people could be disappointed with the choice of color and patterns. You shouldn’t care how your baby looks during the night, but if she is comfy, right?
Other sleeping bags I looked at and why I didn’t go for them:
Grobag: this one has met all my criteria mentioned above, but it doesnt have an inverted zipper. also, the polyester filling in the 2.5TOG is not that breathable as wool is.
Deedee sleeping bag: after reading the reviews (poorly made, shrinks after washing, too “tight” on baby) and seeing it is polyester filling, I said no.
Lullabag in bamboo fabric: not warm enough for the temperature we have at night in our room.
What I already have but am not satisfied with:
the cotton halo sleepsacks are just fine, but very thin – only for summer time in southern california; the zzzipme sleeping bags from swaddle designs are also an acceptable choice but only because they have the two-way zipper – but they are fleece, it is really not breathable. And no shoulder snaps on those two, so you just struggle putting your baby in it if she is already asleep. Those are not “one size” bags so you have to buy more as baby grows.
