Great laptop but needs a light to easily see when caps lock is on. Also the setting should be that the functions keys work without pressing “fn” key. Or an easy toggle to make they change.
I had to go into bios to fix. Otherwise great.
I’ve had the computer for a while, I can honestly say that it is a vast improvement on my old one, in every department. It’s so nice not to gave to keep it plugged in, as the battery easily lasts all day. To be honest, I don’t use the computer that much, so the battery lasts forever! It boots up so quickly, the screen is big enough for all my needs and once you’re online, I’m finding that any downloads I’ve made have been SO much quicker than on the old machine. It’s got all the ports you could need and I love how light it is, never had a computer I can walk around with it in my hand before. I will be buying another one for a friend in a few months time, that’s how much trust, faith and enjoyment I have in and am getting from this machine.
Light weight, fast start up and shutdown, high definition screen. Windows 11 OS,
Good value for money.
Fast and absolut quick, no Prob with Win 11 what so ever only thing hence for one star less ist that the camera turns off when doing skypecalls after good 7 Minutes, no matter what, otherwise all works well, may get an external cam, as they are not expensiv at all.
Update:
After uninstalling of ‘Norton Security’, Camera does no longer have issues at all.
Updates are running smooth too and wife is more than happy with everything.
We needed a cost effective, but sturdy/reliable, laptop for every day use. This fitted the bill and gave a nice balance between performance and cost. Yes, there are better laptops out there, but these come at a premium cost, and we did not need ‘super fast’ performance, just reliable. This fitted the bill well. After 3 months use, happy with the purchase and the overall performance. Battery Life is OK.
Overall I like it, works well for our needs.
But I found the USB ports and the LAN connections are all pretty “narrow” – making a bit difficult to insert/remove the USB cables or the Ethernet cable. With the worry this could cause a potential damage in the long term…
This is a great laptop. Got it for uni and its fab. However! When I set it up I could not for the life of me connect it to my WiFi. Turns out it didn’t have any WiFi drivers or whatever they’re called so I had to download on onto my other laptop and transfer it over via memory stick. It took 4 hours of stress and confusion to sort it out. Thankfully my partner is way more tech minded than me and helped me trouble shoot and figure it out eventually.
No clue why it didn’t have drivers. It was an open box so maybe they were removed for display or something? I have no idea
My old laptop had become really slow and despite all attempts remained slow. This machine is almost instantaneous, the screen picture quality is excellent from all viewing angles the keyboard is well laid out and the ports adequate. I did miss an SD card slot though, but I have an external device. The battery life is as advertised, and I have not operated it for long enough to test it to the limit yet.
Very pleased with this machine.
The product for me is good for its battery life, watching videos and is decent for producing music.
This computer is very fast. I edit a lot of photos as I do wildlife photography, and this computer processes Lightroom in no time at all, and it has shortened by processing time to the bare minimum. I’m very happy that I bought it.
Beeded to update my slow and dying Acer and this seemed a natural and good replacement. Not at all disappointed. The keystrokes are light and springy. Amazing build quality I have to say.
It was supposed to be a family machine but I fell in love with it SO much I forbade my wife from using it. Yes I know, I’m evil but she still loves me!!
Using this laptop for studying and I have nothing bad to say about it at all. I upgraded the ram and this laptop does everything it should. Good basic laptop.
This is much faster and more powerful than my previous Acer 5. The i5 processor multi tasks well. The webcam is much better than I expected, after seeing some other laptops. Keyboard and touchpad are very responsive and easy to configure. The Acer Aspire 5 fan runs very quietly and only occasionally needs to operate in medium power mode.
The screen is excellent for everything I’ve used, including pictures and videos. Speakers have improved since the previous version too. Overall it’s a good ‘all rounder’ and more than adequate for most applications. Definitely recommend it as a well equipped, good value laptop.
This was to replace an Acer Aspire E15 which was unable to upgrade to Windows 11. The old machine had a 2TB HDD with about 650GB in use. All the old programs and data transferred to this 1TB SSD easily. The older machine took between 30-60 minutes to boot up. This new one is ready to use within 30 seconds – lightning fast.
Bought this to replace my geriatric laptop wow as with my last laptop it would easily take depending on its mood 10 to 25 mins to boot this one does it in seconds. The screen is crystal clear and with the addition of the windows 11 upgrade it was soon ready to go so glad I bought this
This worked really well for the first two months. Free upgrade to Windows 11. Latest windows update destroyed it and no matter what help I was offered it never resolved the problem. Amazon customer service brilliant they did all they could. Acer bit poor had me sticking a paper clip to restore factory settings didn’t work. 2 hours with West African Microsoft agent didn’t help. Full reload of Windows from USB didn’t sort it either. I was given a replacement from Amazon but within same day same problem. I’m guessing it’s two fold both with Acer and windows update someone needs to get a grip with this. I’m now at a point that I’m scared of buying another laptop full stop. As for going to high street their returns policy is shocking. Overall laptop worked really well and I was really happy with it. Amazon customer services fantastic. Although I’m still waiting for my refund I’m sure that will come soon. Please read all the reviews the negative ones were right!
Ordered from Amazon UK on the Monday, delivered to France on the Thursday. The laptop is simple to set up and is great in terms of usability, design, speed, battery life and (so far) reliability. With 1tb SSD, 8gb RAM and an Intel i5 processor, it’s great value for money.
Nice solid feel and good display. However the sleep key no longer works. I don’t know if it’s software or mechanical. Fault.
This was an upgrade from a HP Pavilion laptop, and instantly I knew I’d made the right choice …. I spent months lost in the world of laptops, not knowing which to opt for. It’s absolutely perfect for my daily use, its fast, efficient, the battery is ok, but could possibly be better, I don’t think I could go all day from fully charged, … and touch wood it hasn’t crashed yet ! There is nothing more annoying than a laptop crashing all the time. For just shy of 700 this is a really nice high specification laptop.
UPDATE – 07/02/2022
Weirdly the following day after posting this review, i closed the laptop lid as i have been doing from new, but this time it didn’t go into “Sleep Mode” …. i came back to it a couple of hours late and nearly burnt my hands it was that hot, It hadn’t helped that i’d slipped it into a laptop sleeve, any longer and only god knows what might have happened ! …. a couple of days later while watching a downloaded film, it “Blue Screen Crashed” …. OMG ! What the hell is going on here ?
I’ve only had the laptop for a couple of weeks. Downloaded stuff on to it really quick..responds well. Haven’t had it long enough nor had time yet to explore all the functions but so far so good
Replaced a poorly laptop for my business – the bonus being Amazon Prime next day delivery. A great laptop that has everything I need – can be a little noisy when the fan kicks in.
This is my 5th Acer, but the first bought from new. The options are quite confusing now, but this model met all my requirements including price. I checked and charged it when it arrived, then began the set up process a week later (it was a birthday present). After using it for about a week, the screen flashed off in the middle of a document.
Everything was dead, just a single bar of light at the top of the screen flashing different colours. I could not even turn it off. After a fairly long session with Amazon help (Thanks Ronnie) the decision was to return it to Acer, which I arranged immediately.
The next morning the battery had run down and the laptop was off.
I plugged it in, switched it on, and everything has been fine since!
Just a glitch, annoying, but not fatal. I could have just returned it to Acer anyway, but the process was cancelled by agreement, and that suits me because I would have had to go through the set up processes again.
If it goes wrong again, Acer already know about it.
An interesting lesson, Computers are complex and are quite capable of having a hiccup. Shut down and restart often works – even in these circumstances!
It a basic lap top quite fast works well worth the money
It will suit the middle to older person like me
I am pleased It has a 1 tb storage
Make it great for photos of my gran childre
UPDATE: I was eventually able to install several flavours of Linux on this laptop just not Linux Mint as I originally intended. Instead I have the even better Zorin16 on it and it works beautifully. Better than Windows by a mile and free. This just reinforces the 5 stars I originally gave it.
End of update.
I’m an IT pro with several high spec laptops all using Windows 7 and 10. I brought this because I hate Windows 10 and wanted to use this as my first adventure into the better, faster and free LINUX operating system. Unfortunately after many attempts and a lot of research the Acer would not allow LINUX to be installed!
Instead I installed LINUX on an older but higher spec HP at the *first attempt!*
As for using this machine with Windows 10 – its good, well made, good screen and fast for an Intel i5. Only thing I really really don’t like is the power button replacing the delete key on the keyboard instead of being a seperate button. As a coder I use the delete key often alas this is how many manufacturers are doing it not just Acer.
I haven’t tested the battery life as I’m usually plugged in.
By pre Covid prices it is a bit expersive but based on today it is good value for money.
As for ease of use – don’t like the power button but otherwise its fine.
All-in-all though, a good laptop.
I bought this to replace the Acer I purchased four years ago, and it’s more expensive but much lighter and faster than the old model. I chose Acer because all my laptops since 2003 have been Acers and I’ve always been happy with them. However, my most recent Acer before this one was quite heavy despite being the same screen size as the one I’ve just bought and I love the portability of the new one.
My old one had been problematic for a while – I’m not sure whether I killed it with overwork or whether it’s just that technology has improved so much over the past few years that the new model just doesn’t seem to have any of the peccadilloes associated with the last one.
There’s no DVD drive on the new one, but since I use it mostly for work and for my MA studies, that’s not a problem. There’s a fast internet connection and it’s happy to talk to my wireless printer. All in all, I’m very happy with it – and the colour (a metallic turquoise) is an added bonus.
Needed to upgrade my work laptop and looked at a lot of different options and reviews. In the end I went for this one. Very pleased I did – it is fast and lightweight with a good screen and plenty of battery life (although this was not a critical criteria for me).
There are some simple but effective design features eg. the lifting hinge on the screen which allows the fans room to circulate the air better. The only downside I can see so far is that the fans are a little noisy.
