The laptop is working excellent so far. However, there is one shortcoming on keyboard design- all alphabet and figures etc printed on keyboard are very small and their colour is very similar to the background, which as a result gives not much contrast to let the user recognise them easily.
I like the speed of the laptop. But Microsoft 365 is not up to the mark. I thought it would be built-in with the computer but it will be finished within the year.
The build quality of the laptop is good. I got it closed to black friday and it was quite worth it.
The bottom section of the laptop is plastic and the top (where you hand rest) and the screen body is metallic.
The screen is IPS as mentioned. It has a relatively acceptable viewing angle.
It also looks like for a laptop of this price range.

I needed a laptop with a good spec that could handle home music recording software without freezing or slowing down. I also didnt want to pay an arm and a leg like i would for a big name laptop. This does the trick. Paired with the right music software, interface and speakers it makes for a great home recording set up. Im just being picky knocking one star off. The backlit keyboard isnt great and because the letter colouring on the keys doesnt stand out i find myself having to look and look again when typing. Other than that, very happy with this purchase
This is a nice piece of kit, though it had an old version of Windows 11. Beware that he installed Norton does give windows update some problems so advise to disable it. You might have to stop the update and bits server and flush he upload directory. This is easy and straight forward to do, but takes time tomdo when all you want to do is use the laptop straight from the box. I would have given it five stars if it was not for that issue.
Originally bought this at 407. I think you get a decent bit of kit for your money’s worth. Backlit keys, decent build, Wifi 6e, 3 USB 3.2 slots, USB C port that can charge, HDMI 2.1, fingerprint reader. Rarely consumes more than 20w on average. Two upgradeable RAM slots for a total of 32gb and it even has a spare Gen3 NVME SSD slot. At 679 though you better look elsewhere. At that price point I’d expect 1TB SSD, 16gb RAM, better CPU and an actual IPS display with 300+ nits of brightness and maybe 120hz refresh rate.
The main drawbacks of this laptop are the display and the current price point (as of 22nd July 2023). If this display is IPS then I’ve clearly lost an eye, or two!! XD. Definitely a TN as the viewing angles are atrocious. My main usage however has it plugged in and connected to a 165hz monitor most days, and the laptop display is serviceable for days when I actually am portable with it. I usually have my desktop running 24/7 due to background tasks. I’ve since shifted all of this over to the laptop as my desktop doing the same simple background tasks would run at 110-120w! where as the laptop is only taking 20w from the wall on average.
tl;dr – Low power, runs well, good amount of i/o ports, upgradable ram, backlit keys, display NOT IPS, recommended at 400 if you don’t mind TN panel or using external monitor like me, look elsewhere at anything over 450 in my opinion.
Happy with this computer but did have a fault on sound. Acer collected my computer and repaired the fault then arranged for it to be returned to me. This to me is good after care.
The Acer Aspire 5 A515-57 is an excellent laptop that offers good performance, a sleek design, and a host of useful features. This laptop is perfect for anyone who needs a reliable and powerful machine for work, school, or everyday use.
Firstly, the design of the Aspire 5 is sleek and modern. The laptop features a thin, lightweight design that makes it easy to carry around wherever you go. The 15.6-inch full HD display is crystal clear, with bright colours and sharp details that make it a pleasure to use for both work and entertainment.
Under the hood, this laptop is powered by an 11th generation Intel Core i5 processor, which provides impressive speed and performance. The laptop also has 16GB of DDR4 RAM, which ensures that the machine can handle multiple tasks and applications without any lag or slowdown.
Another great feature of this laptop is the keyboard. The keys are well-spaced and comfortable to type on, with good feedback and travel. The touchpad is also responsive and easy to use, making it simple to navigate around the machine.
In terms of connectivity, the laptop has a good range of ports, including USB 3.1, HDMI, and Ethernet. This makes it easy to connect to a range of devices and peripherals, such as external hard drives, monitors, and printers.
Overall, the Acer Aspire 5 A515-57 is an excellent laptop that offers good performance, a sleek design, and a host of useful features. Whether you need a machine for work or personal use, this laptop is a great choice. Highly recommended!
PS – I still testing the battery life.
The laptop is very fast and efficient at doing its job. Only one con – the battery life could be a little bit better. But other than that this laptop is a must to buy
I am a surveyor and know didddly squat about laptops. So please bear with me at the ham fisted, non technical review. The box was very secure when it arrived and the Amazon delivery guy asked me for a secure code i’d been sent by Amazon before he would release the laptop to me on my own doorstep – Now that is a good idea Amazon, top marks
As promised by the advertising, it seems to be very fast. very easy to set up & the 15″ screen is the perfect size. It also has an aluminium lid so the case protects the screen from accidental twisting, so you shouldn’t really be able to kill the screen by accident. . The keyboard is back lit while typing and it feels nice & solid, but not heavy.
The buttons are nice & firm & feel positive and the windows 11 feature is really very good indeed. I was a little aprehensive about what I thought was an untested brand , but I needen’t have been nervous, it’s very good ineed. The fan is bordering on silent and the lid has a really clever hinge design that opens and raises the bed of the laptop slightly, quite ingenious.
Not that I really know, but unless you’re a hardcore gamer, This should be able to cope with just about anything. I am delighted with it.
Date of purchase 5-12-22. This review has to do with the Acer Aspire 5 A515-47 15.6 inch Laptop – (AMD Ryzen 7 5825U, 16GB, 512GB SSD, Full HD Display, Windows 11, Iron) and not the older version. So first thing first and to answer a common question, yes, this model it comes with an illuminated keyboard.
Overall it seems to be a reliable machine capable of managing (relatively) demanding jobs with excel and Power BI.
I like that the memory and SSD are extendable, i don’t like the colour of the keyboard for the simple reason it is too glary and you can’t read the keys 🙂 Takes some time to get used to it but a minor thing in comparison wit the overall performance.
Update 22/4/23
I am starting to notice some abnormal behaviour – a couple of times i had a freezing screen as if the machine was running out of memory or something. This shouldn’t happen!
I hope a future update will resolve the issues. Let’s see…
