Needed a replacement laptop. Have used ASUS in the past for many years but not too happy with the one I purchased 3 years ago as it was now failing to boot on too many occasions. Having ready many reviews on line I settled on this Acer model which had what I wanted. Works great, is fast and seems a sturdy build.
Can’t stand cheep fexible plastic models.
The only thing i would have prefered woud be to have a built in wired network port but the purchase of an Amazon Basics USB 3.0 to 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet Internet Adapter over came this issue.
The laptop is great, it works for my gaming and school needs. The price of the laptop was also very good. However, the customer service was truly amazing, messages and reminders of the item’s whereabouts and overall attention to detail. They wanted the ensure the safe arrival of a high value item and they did. Great seller overall.
I originally ordered an Acer Aspire 3 A315-58 and it was shocking so I returned it and ordered this one. It’s a great little computer and I have no issues with it apart from it being a Windows 11. Obviously not Acers fault.
I’ve had it for a few months now and I’m very pleased. Great service and great laptop. I use it a lot for editing videos and it runs so smoothly.
I recently bought a laptop from KSN and was nervous because it was a high value purchase. All of my anxieties soon went because of the absolutely first rate communication I had with Sunny throughout the whole process. I received the factory sealed laptop in very secure packaging in no time and am delighted. Wouldn’t hesitate to buy from them agai
I didn’t order this laptop until I carried out hours of research. There will always be something that someone dislikes about any laptop, but we all have our own preferences and that’s not a bad thing.
The touch pad is sensitive and you need to get used to it and as to where you click it for different uses. But like anything, it takes a little time, but you will soon get to master it. Otherwise it’s fine.
I’ve seen one video on YouTube where someone remarked on it only being available in grey (to each his/her own, I like it though). However, it is manufactured in aluminium and looks and feels great. It’s lighter than most laptops I’ve used. It helps that it doesn’t have a heavy removable battery clipped to it’s ‘undercarriage’.
The Intel core i7 12th generation processor is fast, really fast.
Storage is in the form of a 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD and can be updated. There is an additional slot to add another M.2 NAMe SSD (I’ve just ordered another 1TB today).
There is 16GB of RAM fitted and is not upgradeable, but I really don’t have a problem with that. 16GB of RAM is more than enough for most uses (with a few exceptions like hard core gamers and such like).
What I really like is the amount and choice of USB slots etc (see info on Amazon).
The HD screen is a nice touch. The quality is excellent when watching a film or looking at hi-res photos. The sound is good enough through its built in speakers, but it it isn’t that loud, good enough for listening to music and films. Connect some headphones and you won’t be disapointed!
Like most laptops these days, it doesn’t come with a CD / DVD player, which allows more space for Acer to incorporate extras, like an excellent cooling system (that is extremely quite and efficient). You can get external plug and play CD/DVD player/burners for around 20 or so.
If you want to know more to to Acer website, downloads. Enter model no and download user manual for free.
In short: Excellent fast performing, thin, light and yet a very robust laptop. 16inch screen makes a difference ( though I have been using an HP 17inch up until recently).
Brief note: Word within the computing industry is that all laptop manufacturers will stop making 15 and 17 inch laptops. Laptops will come with industry standard 16 and 18 inch screens. As to when this will happen is anyone’s guess, but as the Acer 16 inch was released in 2022 then I expect it will happen sooner rather then later.
I do love the laptop overall, it’s got a solid build and it’s great for multitasking, I could easily remove bloatware and unnecessary apps, but it’s not as fast as I expected it to be.
Nice lil laptop. It’s really quiet I thought the fan would be an issue haha but I’m playing rust and it’s minimal compared to my msi which sounds like a jet engine. The audio is good. Keyboard has light which helps in the dark. This was bought as a gift and they are going to love it.
Like
the weight, the screen, charges to a good level (not 100%)quickly, storage capacity, the backlit keys, loads Windows 10 in 30 seconds (or 60 seconds with NordVPN), Wifi works very well, large touchpad works well (not got used to it being central yet!), screen brightness and sound volume easy to adjust, doesn’t use cooling fan much. Didn’t have any problems with drivers when I loaded Window 10 although there are none listed on Acer’s website for Windows 10 on this laptop.
Neutral
No numerical keypad, but I knew that and don’t need one.
Dislike
Arrow keys sharing home, end, pgup and pgdn.
Plenty of compatibility issues with Windows 11 and especially with Nord VPN. Navigating through links often did not work well or sometimes at all. Windows 11 is deliberately not compatible with some older Microsoft software because they want you to buy new versions. Eventually loaded Windows 10 which resolved most issues and even let me load Microsoft Office 2003, but not an unused copy of 2007!
Why can’t the microphone off be a secondary function of F12 which has no secondary function rather than F4 and have the F4 key work whether function is pressed or not. Alt + F4 is a really fast and easy way to shut down apps and on repetition the laptop by then pressing enter. Fn + Alt + F4 needs two hands or is very awkward. I have edited the BIOS, but now I need the Fn key with the sound and brightness controls.
* I come to this Acer laptop after several years with Macs as my frontline computers because I wanted to get up to speed with Windows 11 and have access to various packages not existing in the Mac world. And maybe I wanted to revisit Black Mesa.
* The Swift X doesn’t quite have MacBook build quality but it is very good, certainly I’m not disappointed and I’m sure you won’t be. It’s the first Windows laptop I’ve owned with mostly metal construction, and it feels very sturdy in the hand; pick it up by one corner and there is no flexing or groaning.
* Performance is great. The Ryzen 7 5800U with 16GB RAM powers through everything I’ve thrown at it.
* Installed bloatware is not too gross and is soon removed. Here I will say that Acer Care Center is worth keeping, it has genuinely useful features such as the facility to limit charging to 80% of battery capacity; this is very worthwhile in prolonging battery life.
* The screen is good, with wide viewing angles and a non-reflective matte finish. Higher resolution would help with viewing spreadsheets, but it is what it is and 1920 x 1080 is not at all bad, it looks just fine.
* I don’t like the charger, mainly because of its slender and fragile-seeming pin that plugs into the computer. No probs, I use a MacBook charger into the USB-C socket and obviously any USB-C charger (I suggest 45W+) will do the job.
* The keyboard is good to use, with a very decent amount of key travel; it’s not like drumming your fingers on a desk.
* There is fan noise. Not much, very little, when poodling around with web browsing, office work, and suchlike. Fire up a game such as Metro Exodus – the Swift X copes easily with all the modern titles I’ve tried – and you might think the machine is attempting lift-off. But I think that’s true of all such thin and light Windows laptops, heat dissipation is a challenge and serious gamers will pick a more suitable (and expensive!) alternative.
* The trackpad is a pleasant surprise, being so much better than I had expected after reading or watching numerous reviews. Left click, right click, multitouch – it just works, and with no hint of looseness or rattling, so it is entirely practical to use this laptop without a mouse.
* The fingerprint scanner has worked brilliantly, matching or exceeding any I have come across for reliability.
* The only issue I’ve had so far has been my Bluetooth mouse intermittently ceasing to work. Blaming the mouse I ordered another from Amazon, only to experience the same problem. In time-honoured Windows tradition I then did what I should have done in the first instance, I removed and reinstalled the Bluetooth drivers in Device Manager. That did the trick, fingers crossed.
In conclusion, I’m very happy with my Acer Swift X SFX14-41G, and I think I it’s a real bargain at the price.
First up I really like this laptop, light, good battery length, good screen.
Don’t use gaming so can’t comment.
Do use for small business and, internet etc.
Why not 5*? If I could give 4.5 I would. As I said, easy to use, just what i needed plenty of storage. Downsides only one USB port. Cant have mouse and second screen at same time unless I use my extra USB port thing, which isn’t a huge deal but annoying. For my set up battery cable on wrong side, again not huge issue, bit cable is bent back which in long term may cause damage. USB is on right side as left handed.
Real issue which is not the laptop, is windows 11 is installed which if you like it is great you dont have to purchase it separately. But I hate it, particularly new outlook. So I have installed last version of windows, but laptop keeps trying to update it.
Yesterday finger recognition didn’t work maybe due to cold hands, so had issue logging in, so have now set up a pin. Should have done before, but an oh no moment.
All in all a nice little laptop, would def recommend.
I dont have time to tell you all what I think of this laptop but what I will tell you is that I spent two weeks looking at laptops that were portable and had a bit of punch so I could play games (as well as dual boot linux). I’m happy I bought this laptop. It’s the best one out there for all I need. Runs like a dream and is great for the occasional game.
