Does everything you would want of a shredder. Quiet in operation, takes multiple sheets with ease and has a big capacity which is easy to empty. I would have given 5 stars but I think the control switch feels flimsy and rather imprecise but so far it works – but I’m treating it gently!
I had several years worth of sensitive documents to shred and didn’t like the idea of doing them one sheet at a time on my existing shredder. This works a treat, happily taking 10 sheets at a time and would operate for well over 20 minutes at a time without overheating and the bin is a decent capacity
The cross cut shredding means gives me higher security disposing of the processed documents. I am also impressed by its ability to shred credit cards. A great addition to my office
Eats its way through my shredding. Far better than cheaper ones i’ve had. Sounds stronger and i anticipate it will last a good time.
Reading through the user manual it recommends that you purchase some oiling & sharpening sheets, which are also available in the Amazon basics range, these do not cost much, come with a full user guide & are well worth getting to keep the unit in tip top condition,
Product is very well built & deals with cds, credit cards ect & dose not even sweat, plus it is quite when shredding, very pleased with my unit so far.
This 15 sheet shredder seems first class; quiet with a large box for the shreds which can be removed and replaced with ease.
My only complaint would be that it is a bit slow, but if you multiply number of sheets by the speed it can shred them, it is still pretty effective.
I have used it to cut all sorts of cardboard boxes – double and single. Even a TV carton. I won’t say it dealt with heavy duty cardboard boxes effortlessly…it did require some effort – sometimes putting it in at an angle…Good God, I hope I am still talking about cardboard boxes. To self: It has not been that long, has it? I digress.
The shredder has been doing a good job. It has tackled everything I have thrown at it. Noise level is ok. Nothing abnormal. It has indicators to tell you if it has overheated( it has not in my case), when it is overloaded( I got a couple of those when some sticky vinyl that had got stuck onto the thick box I was shredding got in the mix), when the door to the bin is opened and when the bin is full. I find it easy to use and frankly it has met my needs so far.

Perfect. Cuts up all the Amazon boxes easily. Great for re using for either your compost or chicken bedding beforehand. Great piece of machinery. Highly recommend
This is a robust shredder with a good capacity bin, which handles credit cards, CDs & DVDs as well as paper and card. It is a crosscut, so the result can’t be put back together. It works well.
on castors so easy to move around. very simple to empty and quiet in use. I would highly recommend this for people who have to process a fair amouht of paper (and who ae neurotic about their data privacy!
Only had this for one day so far but it works really well its quiet and the main thing is it does cardboard aswell thats what i wanted it for and it does a great job i dont know how long it will last as its intended for paper but it feels really well made and sturdy also purchased the sharpening and oil sheets but not tried these ye
I was in two minds about buying this shredder as I’ve previously had a 6 sheet device which has generally done the job. But this one takes shredding to the next level and justifies its additional cost. It’s early days, but so far I’m very pleased. It’s not quiet, but that’s ok as I turn it on, shred and turn it off.
I had an inadequate shredder before for the 100 or so A4 sheets I have to shred every week. This works quickly (15 sheets at a time) and seems robust. It is also easy to empty
If you have a lot of shredding to do (maybe you’re not allowed to burn stuff?), then this machine is a must, it just powers through everything I throw at it, loads of sheets all at once, massive basket to collect the crosscut pieces, it even tells me when it needs emptying. This is well worth the money asked.
Only used for two days and shredded an immense amount. Shredding up to 15 sheets at a time. No jams no mess and perfect cutting. Very solid and easy to use, on wheels making very easy to move. Highly reccomend.
Bought this shredder to replace a Fellowes machine which had stopped working. Was in two minds whether to go for an Amazon shredder but glad I did – much cheaper, much quieter, and does the job effectively and efficiently. Very satisfied.

15 sheets, works very well, seems well made and good value with a large bin for a home office, other reviewers may have their machine types mixed up
Delivery next day. Can honestly say it hasn’t disappointed with the amount of shredding we have done. Just cleared lots of old paperwork and blitzed straight though it all. Heavier than I thought but wheels make moving it easier.
I’m a domestic user, so light home office use. I thought I would get a slightly more powerful unit than my current one which failed. This is superb for home use. The window is great and the bin slides out, the last one didn’t and paper “fluff” went everywhere when the top was removed. It’s quite. It’s effective.
The only downside is the slot is slightly awkward to put the paper in, I suspect this is on purpose so you don’t jam too much paper in the slot. Very happy.
Seems robust and slow to overheat under continuous use. Shreds even thick card easily, but did struggle a bit with some old DVDs which may have been made from particularly hard plastic.
Great shredder for home, or possibly small office. It is quiet, truly does accept 15 pages at a go, and after shredding 4 large garbage bags worth of papers over more than an hour, it never slowed, jammed, or overheated. Being wheeled is helpful, as is the large removable bucket. Easy to set-up and use. Would recommend. (Note It replaced a cheap, basic 15yr old 5 page shredder, which could only really handle 1-2 pages at time and constantly slowed, overheated and jammed, so that was my benchmark and the improvement is fantastic).
Quality shredder my better than my old strip shredder which kept getting the paper strips tangled in cutting wheels. I had built up a quantity of paper to shred and by just doing ten sheets at a time to save overload cleared it all up in a reasonable time and the cutters needed minimum clearing. Highly recommended for personal use particularly as unlike the paper strips this results in such small pieces that cannot be joined together to read afterward – a true security feature.
Everything about this shredder has been impressive from the moment it arrived, extremely well packed. After all that has been removed and the machine plugged in it performed exactly as promised. It handles paper well and a reasonable number of sheets. It also handles corrugated cardboard if not too thick and if cut to narrow strips. It isn’t fast, but it is quiet. I particularly like the fact that the bin can ve removed without having to lift off the cutting mechanism and that the window shows clearly when the bin is getting full.
Much quieter than my old shredder. Can cope with 10 sheets at once with ease and shreds them into tiny pieces. Also shreds credit cards easily into the same time pieces. To shred a credit card you need to put something in to catch the pieces otherwise they will mix with your waste paper. It is on castors so easy to move around, and the front opening makes emptying the shredder very convenient, and less messy than a lift off lid type. I was very pleased with this purchase…it is actually better than I expected.
After our old trusty Rexel shredder packed up we decided we needed a bigger machine so went for this Amazon Basics model due to the price and the excellent reviews. Wow what a bit of kit!!! Really powerful, so quiet and a pleasure to use. The bin is a doddle to empty and has a very good capacity also it is really handy with it being on castors . We cannot fault this machine and would happily recommend it to anyone needing a good shredder.
I have had several shredders over the years. My last one felt robust but failed after 10 years as something broke inside. I wanted another robust replacement and eventually decided on this one. I was hesitant as it seemed expensive, but when it arrived I have been really pleased with it. It chomps through the paper and happily will take 10-12 sheets without hesitation. It keeps running for a few extra seconds to get more cuttings out of the mechanism and the separate bin makes emptying simple. The shredder feels a quality item and all operation so far has been excellent. A little quieter than my last one too. Definitely recommend this to others. After researching lots of them and how fiddly some others were, I am glad that I spent the money on this one.
I read the previous revues for this Amazon Basics model having purchased shredders in the past which failed to meet their manufacturers performance claims. The revues seemed very positive and are born out by our experience. This is super shredder for the money, it appears to be well made, is not too noisy and has the capacity the shread bulk paper without overloading or overheating. For the money – excellent. One down side is the switch slider was very stiff but we have noticed that this seems to be easing with use.
I was surprised by the size of this shredder when it arrived, it’s big! 20 inches high.
It quietly munches it’s way through multiple pages. Huge waste bin that pulls out instead of lifting off the top and it’s on wheels.
Feels like it will go on for years. Oh, the instructions say to oil once a month with simple cooking oil.
I wasn’t considering the Amazon Basics range, but it was mentioned in a review of a different shredder that made me check it out.
I’m glad I did, it is excellent, and in just under an hour I shredded an enormous bag of sensitive paperwork that has been building for years, my previous one would overheat within 10 minutes.
I’m glad I opted for the 15 sheet model, no messing about, sheaf of paper with paper clips, also credit cards, no issues. It’s in a higher price band than I wanted to pay but I’m still very pleased with it.
Bit bulky, haven’t quite found a home for it yet, and there’s the slightest hint of a spark (or sound of one) when I turn it on, not sure whether to be concerned or not tbh.
Overall, great purchase, pleased so far.
Unopened junk mail, CDs, credit cards, handfuls of paper at a time. Seems to get the job done fairly efficiently, easy to move around on castors, and the draw pops out easily when you need to empty it.
It looks fairly cheaply built, but then you do get what you pay for. Feels like it’ll be perfectly adequate for home office use, but not sure it would handle constant abuse in an office environment. Considerable improvement on the smaller shredder I had before which used to choke on more than 2 sheets of A4 at a time and overheat.
Have had two cheap shredders in my home office, both were very noisy and ultimately blew up. The AmazonBasics shredder is altogether a different beast: calm, quiet and powerful. It’s definitely worth paying a bit more when it comes to shredders – buy once, buy right.
Purchased to replace an old noisy one. This has decent capacity, is quite and has castors so can be manoeuvred easily. Up to now I am well pleased with it…. DO make sure you use the correct oil before heavy use, and not WD40 like I did once on my old one, which blew up with a bang next to my ear. Fortunately the ringing has stopped now
I’ve previously owned both strip shredders and crosscut shredders (4 in total) and they all struggled to shred their stated capacity and eventually gave up completely. At some point I’ve had most of them in pieces whilst either trying to unclog the works or repair a broken part.
Eventually the penny dropped that buying the economy models was false economy and I paid a little over double (90) for the Amazon 15 sheet shredder.
In short it’s worth the money and more. Comes with castors on the chassis (meaning the bin slides out without having to lift the top off) and the whole thing has a reassuring build quality about it. Anything I’ve put into it so far it has devoured without hesitation, but most of all it’s quiet.
I’ve very pleased with this purchase and from performance so far, expect it to give good service for a long time.
I tend to use this appliance in its ‘automatic’ mode. I have a lot of notes to dispose of and this machine makes easy work of everything. Although it has never jammed yet, I believe the ‘forward’ and ‘reverse’ buttons could be useful. I particularly like the large capacity bin which, when three times full, will fill a large bin bag. This product is proving that it is money well spent.
This is a review only for the large 15 sheet Amazon Basics shredder selling for about 90. I agree with all the positive reviews. Only in use for one day so far, but I am impressed with good build quality and smooth, quiet and efficient operation. It’s (almost) a pleasure to shred with this machine, compared to a cheap noisy ones I’ve had before! The instructions and labels are littered with various sensible safety warnings. However, as pointed out by another very vigilant buyer of this shredder, the fuse in the supplied plug is 13Amp. I only checked the fuse size because of the previous review. The product is marked 1.5Amp and the mains cable is less than 13Amp rated. It is a very good idea to check the rating of the mains plug fuse when you receive this product and change it to 3Amp if necessary.
I struggled with my old cross cutter. Only seemed to be able to use for a few minutes before it overheated and shut down, even had smoke coming out of it. This is a totally different animal. Takes 12 or so sheets at a time, as long as you oil the teeth often, seems to be able to shred forever. Even does credit cards. Had to do an insane amount of shredding when I moved house, allowed me to get it all done in time.
This is a very good domestic shredder. It works quickly and handles staples and cds in addition to multiple sheets of paper. I’ve run it for over 30mins at a time without any sign of overheating and like the fact it is on castors. The bin full warning seems a bit sensitive but I open the hopper and squash down the contents to get some more shredding down before emptying.
This was bought for a law practice requiring extensive daily shredding of confidential documents. This product seems to be extremely well made and robust. So far it has shredded a large volume of paper without any issues and from time to time we have exceeded the 15 sheet limit without any issue. The bin is very convenient – it can just be emptied into the trash or a bag. Overall very impressed with this product.
Having used the shredder quite extensively for the past 6 or so weeks I can say with confidence that this thing is a bit of a beast! I’ve given it some pretty heavy use shredding over 12 months worth of old bank statements and office docs plus some old credit cards and everything went without a hitch. A massive time saver and with the amount of junk mail we get every day this is a welcome addition to the home office.
No jams, quick and easy to use for multiple sheets, easy to empty and move around on the rollers. I find it hard to think of a downside on this one and would definitely give the thumbs up for anyone looking for a decent shredder. If I had to be picky – I guess the aesthetics appeal could be improved…but honestly I’m not sure it matters for a shredder.
