This is the tallest stair gate I could find and it is perfect for my large dog. The gaps between the bars are narrow enough to stop my cats from sneaking through.
I bought this as it was recommended to me whilst I was introducing a new puppy into the household, it is easy to put up and stays in place really well despite being jumped at periodically by an over excitable and large puppy!!

This is the best company I’ve ever encountered. They listen to you and solve your problems and their product is the best. Love BabyDa
Very easy to install. Very sturdy. Using for our Neapolitan mastiff (over 70kg) and is more than tall enough and holds very well. Very impressed
Easy to fit. Nice and tall so the dogs can’t jump over. Little difficult to open the latch, and middle bars bend easily if the dogs press against them.
Just what we needed for keeping the dogs out of the kitchen! Well made and easy to fit. Should be good for babies and toddlers too. Recommended.
Easy to install and perfect for keeping our mini dachshund puppy safe.
Great product my lab pup can’t jump this one. Going to order another one for kitchen doorway
Really like this product. Easy to fit at the bottom of the stairs. Does the job of keeping my dogs from going upstairs when required.
Exactly what we needed to keep our cat away from the baby basket at night. Very easy to assemble sturdy and easy to open/close.
Excellent product and worth searching for and buying easy to install and very strong Sturdy dog gate.i have not had to lock it with handle as it’s strong and lift on opening keeps my dog safy locked away
Love this gate. High enough to stop my two retrievers getting over it. This is my second one. Bought one 4 years ago and last week top handle broke. Searched internet for a replacement nothing. Emailed customer service at BabyDan Monday, reply that one would be sent Tuesday. Received it today Wednesday. All fitted. Top marks for Customer Service. And there was no charge. Well done BabyDan.
I brought 3 different gates for our dog for 3 different rooms but she was jumping over the main one so we brought this one. And I must say I am very impressed its quite and very sturdy also good locking system. Seriously it is a very good quality gate.
Great gate, easy to install and does the job!
Hard to open at start but after using its easy to use. Nice and tall and good as we have a smaller door opening.
I love the size of this gate, its really tall and looks smart in the black colour… plus it hides the dirt better meaning I don’t have to clean it as often – always a bonus.
However, my big pain in the rear doberman has found out that if he runs fast enough, he can run through the gate whilst it’s locked, even with it being tight on the pressure fit. Where there’s no sense theres no feeling I suppose. The bars have bent since he’s discovered this, but that is not why I’ve only given it 4 stars and it is a very well made gate.
The reason for the reduced star is because the little clip at the bottom of the gate seems like a bit of an afterthought in the design process. I bought a much cheaper, albeit smaller, gate for the stars and it has a better metal locking mechanism which clips into the metal bar at the bottom rather than the plastic clip that sits over it like on this gate. I honestly think that if this clip was better thought out and more secure, my idiot dog couldn’t run through it, he’d just bounce off it and save my sanity in the process.
Bought to keep our cheeky boxer from getting into the living room and chewing things whilst we’re out. Works perfectly, takes her weight (30kg) when she jumps up and is very sturdy. Love the handle mechanism, easy to do one handed.
Not as good as the one I was replacing it with but it looks good. One good thing going for it my great granddaughter can’t work out how to open it like she has the others.yes you have read it correctly I have 4 in total either keeping the dog or greatgrandaughter captured all in a 1 bedroom bungalow.
Great product for the money.
This gate is great to stop my springer spaniel escaping when the front door is opened.
I had to order longer spindles for this gate as I wanted to use it in a hallway. Pretty easy to put up.
It feels a little stiff when opening, I’m assuming it will loosen over time.
The gate is easy to use, strong when in place, be aware the tread on the fixing /adjustment feet all had thread damage midway and needed a thread die to fix them , looks like a manufacturing fault when putting on the rubber fee
Perfect. Strong sturdy gate which has stopped my little one climbing over. All parts came with the gate but I did notice (like other people have said on here) that the thread was damaged on 3 out of 4 of the screws. It was further down the screw so it didn’t effect the gate but would be a bit of a pain if I had to extend it to its widest setting.
Best pet gate you will find anywhere. I have two springers and even they can’t jump this gate. It has given me a great peace of mind and safety to my pets. Easy to enstall, and you can even by extending pieces.
Really happy to find a gate that keeps my labradoodle behind bars! .I think he was born with springs instead of feet as the usual stair gates were no barrier for him. This gate is really strong and although he tries he can’t get over it. Yey!!
Did the job perfectly for my large dog (who’s breeds are colliewhippetbullgreyhound) for serveral months, until he figured out it needs to be lifted to open, and so can now open it with ease by lifting the bottom of the door with his teeth.
If your dog is very stubborn, smart and disobediant who Has to shadow you around then it may not last as long as you would hope. But still one of the best gates Ive used.
Brought for my whippet puppy who has managed to get through/over my current child gate. It is very easy to instal and fits a door frame with wonkey walls and floor. My pup regularly jumps up at it but it has managed to keep him in his room (so far)
This is a really good product – easy to install, sturdy and does the job perfectly. I also like the fact that the gate self-closes. The gate looks very stylish.
I am a bit disappointed that I cannot find the same gate but smaller…. I need another gate which is not as wide as this one, but cannot find it, so will end up with two different ones….
This gate is so good at keeping our 18 month old German Pointer off the stairs that I have just ordered another for the kitchen doorway. I did wonder if it would work, as our pup seems to have springs in his legs, but it is brilliant. We had another brand of stair gate when he was smaller but the bars were not so close together and he managed to injure a leg on it. The bars on this one are a safe distance apart and it is very sturdy. I like the charcoal colour of it too 🙂
Brilliant sturdy stays in place and doesn’t move even with my huge dog trying to get over it!
Very easy to put in place comes with a spanner to tighten up nuts for the pressure fixings. I am female and fitted this myself really pleased with it.
Only reservation would be the plastic fittings , especially the locking mechanism and the handle, however I have solved that minor issue by covering this when I actually leave the house with a strong weld mesh wrapped round and fastened so Retriever has no access to chew these.( See photos attached)
Would not hesitate to buy again when he “eats” one of the other gates in the house!
Seriously, an excellent, sturdy and TALL gate that stops my large jumping dog from trying to answer the front door. Would thoroughly recommend for all pet owners. Unless your pet is a hippo or a tarantula. Probably useless then.
But for dogs, it’s marvellous.
And for the toddlers it was designed for.
This is a good quality product. We bought it to stop the dog getting from one room to another as it could jump over a standard size gate. My only complaint with this gate is that it does not have fixings that go on the door frame and it only gets full stability when it is locked so when it is open you can knock it out of alignment in the frame requiring some repositioning. Other than that we are very happy with it and it looks good also.
Good sturdy gate. When the dog jumps up at the gate it stays in place. There have been a few times where people have lent on it which has move it out of place in the door frame but as long as it stays in place for our dog it works well.
Just one point that you may need to consider if using this on a door that you need to shut – this is a tall gate and your door handle may stop your actual door from closing because it will bang into the bars of the safety gate. For me this means I have to put the gate up every day (until I can work out another way of doing it).
The construction of the gate seems quite solid – and I chose it because it is tall (and it IS tall) and also because it seemed to have a bigger opening width than some other gates. So we have only had this gate a few days and how it will stand up to being constantly taken on/off I don’t know.
The instructions were a bit weird (diagrams at the back of the booklet) but so long as you follow the properly that shouldn’t be a problem.
On the instructions, it’s called Pet Gate model 5091 and says Scandanavian Pet Design and that’s it. BabyDan is a good make, so I’m not sure why there’s no logo or manufacturer reference.
So, I’m concerned it’s not really a BabyDan make. However, it is an excellent product and I am pleased with it. However – watch out – it doesn’t allow you to close your doors UNLESS you have a very wide architrave. Now I can’t close my kitchen door but at least the dogs are visible and offputting to door callers.
It does do a good job of keeping my German Shepherd in the kitchen though, although not it’s original intention.
Not the best quality in the world, but does it’s job (only said that because it’s job is now dog control).
