38 waist, 30 inside leg. Large was snug so got xl to fit over other trousers. Really pleased as they are lightweight, comfy and fit well. I’ve got other paclite goretex and they’re really water repellent. Don’t wash with detergent though!

These fit perfectly and pack away easily for walking or cycling. I use these mainly for cycling and I don’t have any movement issues at all. I would highly recommend these to anyone.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI have had several pairs of these and they will last five years of regular use. I have tried many other brands and materials. Some are more durable but they are heavy and bulky – most of the time if hillwalking you only want to carry overtrousers as a backup in your pack. If you want overtrousers for pushing through undergrowth you need to get something tougher than these. Some are a more fashionable fit, tighter and more stretchy etc, but I have found that stretchy overtrousers invariably leak at the thigh and knee. These are a reasonable price for goretex. Paclite is a proven goretex material that has been around many years. The fit is quite loose which is what you want in an overtrouser as the rain runs off your legs and over your boots rather than into them, and the breathe more effectively. The full length zips make them easy to put on over boots and the the two way zips mean they can be vented at the top. They weigh nothing and pack away very small. The main reason people find their overtrousers start leaking is that they put them away wet or muddy and the material deteriorates. Look after these and they will serve you well.

I went for Berghaus because of the respected brand name. Also because these use GoreTex fabric which I understood to be the top waterproof fabric available – everyone waxes lyrical about it.
Generally these have been OK but in the last 2 months water has started coming through on the left knee. Are there actually any garments available which are 100% waterproof over the long term???

I like the long side zips which make it easy to put these on / take off when wearing boots or sports shoes. The zips do catch on the fabric which is annoying but not disastrous. No pockets which is very inconvenient. Do not fit over wide top wellies though.

About the size of a large grapefruit and very light these work really well. Nice and waterproof, good zips.
Cut is good don’t really impede movement

Also useful arriving at camp you can slip them on even if it’s not raining keeps your legs nice and warm

The lightweight nature of these trousers means they might not be suitable for rock climbing or struggling through thick undergrowth but it makes them comfortable to wear and means they don’t take much room in a pack. In fact, they’d probably squeeze into a large coat pocket. They come with a mesh bag.

These trousers are ideal for walking as they are lightweight and useful as they add little to the overall weight of the pack. These are of Paclite construction so are likely to be less durable for high wear applications like climbing where damage is more of a possibility. Not used extensively yet but are my choice for ocasional use . If there is heavy rain at start of day I would use a lower cost alternative in case of possible damage.

Dry comfortable and light weight waterproof over trousers. I bought these trousers as I was fed up of getting soaked hiking in the Scottish highlands. They have been I use for 6 months now and have kept me warm and dry over the Scottish winter.
They are nice fitting with full length zips so can be put on with boots still on and minimum effort.
You can also unfasten side zips a for ventilation. Ideal for hillwalking/hiking

Excellent water resistant trousers. I can now stand in the pouring rain when waiting to collect the little one from school without getting soaked.
Lightweight and comfortable you can almost forget that you are wearing them. If you get too warm then you can make use of the vents.
The only negative for me is the rustling noise of the material whilst moving but that’s to be expected.

    I award five

    Happy shopping

Bought these trousers recently. I normally wear a 34 inch waist, and am 6’3″. I normally buy medium, but went for a large, with 33 inch inside leg, given that they are overtrousers. They fit well. I would have liked them to be slightly longer, but have had no issues with this.
I’ve worn them in both rain and snow, and have had no issues with leaking at all. I find that they keep me warm, but not too clammy!

Smartest pair of waterproofs, as well as the most expensive, I’ve ever owned! They fit perfectly on me and they have a somewhat tailored look about them. They are lightweight but not so light that you couldn’t wear them as stand alone trousers in the summer when its raining. In winter I wear my long johns under them and thats as warm as I want my legs to get whilst walking. My normal trousers are 34″ or 36″ waist depending on how fat I am and 29″ leg. I ordered 36″ x 29″ and they are spot on and are very comfortable in every way. They are also not as baggy and heavy as other waterproofs I have had and don’t russle much when you are out and about. So far they haven’t let a drop of rain in but it will take a longer test to be sure on that front, still they are Gortex and they are Berhaus so I don’t expect a problem. These trousers are expensive but I’ve had so many sloppy, mis-fitting waterproofs that let in water after about a year that I wanted to finally solve the problem and I think I have.

These are light and roll up into about grapefruit size for storage in the bag provided. They are well made and a good fit, tailored rather than the one size fits all type, so they are comfortable for walking and don’t flap or make noise by rubbing. They look quite smart. They don’t have open side vents like some but there are two zip catches on each leg zip so can be opened from the top end to vent. They don’t have pockets and it isn’t easy to get down through the waist band to trouser pockets so anything needed should be put into jacket pocket or similar before putting on the over-trousers. I am pleased with them but I think it would be easy to pick the wrong size. My waist for normal trousers is 28-30 so I bought the medium 31-33 size. It is fine but I wouldn’t want them any tighter. I also bought the 29 inch leg measurement and again it’s close to being too short. Pay attention to choosing sizes and probable better to err on the larger if in doubt. I also bought my daughter a pair of the female version and similar experience with size.

How good are these? Let’s put it like this: when I misplaced a pair that are about nine months old, I bit the bullet and just ordered another pair. The price hurts but if you’ve enjoyed this winning combination of compact size, light weight, ease of putting on, excellent rain proofing and breathability, there is no going back. I’ve now spent a fortune on buying these twice but – then again – I’ve also spent a fortune in years gone by on lots of inferior ones. Do yourself a favour and splash out. You know that old saying: “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing?” This is the sort of clothing that saying refers to.

Golden Review Award: 16 From Our UsersAn avid all weather Walker, I had previously given up on waterproof trousers. Underspend and you end up with a pair of sweet inducing, hot and uncomfortable trousers (even in winter) that you carry around in your backpack but hardly ever put on ( often preferring to get wet).
If you recognise this feeling then these are for you.
They come in a little pouch that compacts them to the size of a large grapefruit. They weigh so little it’s hard to believe that they are so completely waterproof. I wore these on a 24 mile walk around the New Quay Wales coast in pouring rain (non stop all day) in combo with a Marmot gore tex minimalist jacket and gore tex leather boots. The jacket (2.5 later traditional gore tex material) is excellent and weather proof, but not fantastically breathable so yes, I did sweat in it which eventually causes damp sweat patches on clothing underneath outside of all but the coldest days.
The trousers? Well, these are made of a single layer of high intensity gore-tex and so the breathability is much higher whilst the weight is much lower. I wore them over heavy O’Neill canvas outdoor trousers in late summer (prob 18 degrees) and I swear I didnt know that I was wearing them. They glide beautifully walking any terrain and make walking in the rain an absolute pleasure.
The breathability really is incredible… to the point that the very decent but hot Marmot Jacket will be reserved for a decent (Winter only) hard shell, whilst a Berghaus Minimalist jacket will take its place for a waterproof but totally cool and breathable hard shell for the warmer months in due course.
The trousers have a zipper running the full outer length of each leg which makes them a doddle to pop on and off even with boots encrusted with mud, whilst the zips can also be undone from hip to knee level to increase breathability.
I didnt need this but tried walking in the heavy rain with them down just to see if water ingress would occur. The truth is that it does a little, but you still remain largely dry as the water continues to seam down the outer material rather than into your trousers underneath.
I have no doubt given how incredibly lightweight they are, that despite the rip stop fabric they will tear in time from a branch, a trip or barbed wire or even a slip and fall, but I equally believe that they will be easily repairable for the most part with waterproof patches or tenacious tape… meaning they may get tatty after years of use but will continue to work well whilst remaining light and breathable.
Incredibly impressed and fabulous to look forward to my walking even when its throwing it down.

These Gore Tex Paclite trousers are very thin and pack down small. This suits me as I rarely use over trousers, but have them in my pack as a just in case.

This is also their drawback. The material is very thin and not very durable, so you will need to exercise care not to snag them on anything.

In use, these trousers are very convenient. The full length zips on each leg allow you to easily put on and remove, even whilst wearing boots.

Have used once in torrential rain and they kept me totally dry.

I’ve waited a while to review these to give them a proper test. In short they’ve stood up to the recent UK weather extremely well. I was expecting the paclite material to be solid and unspectacular, and to stand up to general showers but not persistent downpours. However, they’ve taken everything that has been thrown at them recently and I have been impressed with their waterproofness. They’re a simple design so minimal openings (which also means minimal ways for water to ingress) but they do have 3/4 zips for easy on/off. The sizing is a bit odd – I went for the M as I was concerned the S would be too small (I’m generally a 31″ waist), and they are a little baggy. I’d have probably been better off with the S, but at least the M go on over other layers very easily. In short, for the price that I paid they are an excellent lightweight, packable overtrouse

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersNicely designed, top quality materials and 100% waterproof, due to the goretex membrane. I purchased the 31-33″ waist and short length, being 5’7 approximately in height, and slim to medium build, they are a perfect fit, and have an elasticated waist, as well as zips at the thigh, and zips at the lower leg, for ventilation and to allow one to put them on easily, however I do try when possible to take off my footwear, when slipping these on, as they’re very light, and I don’t want to risk damaging them with my shoes. Awesome waterproof trousers, glad I purchased, they make a world of difference during the wetter days and months in the UK’s ever changing climate! No more dripping rain soaking my trousers!! I’m really delighted with these, due to the comfort factor alone, I think they’re pretty stylish, but not keen on the “Berghaus” logo on right leg, maybe a little overkill, as one logo on left leg says “Goretex”, and I would prefer just the one logo but it’s a minor gripe, due to their practicality for outdoor use in whatever the weather can throw at you!

These are very light and comfortable, and pretty expensive, but I guess quality outdoor wear is all expensive. I have been out for an hour in a couple of heavy rain days and they are waterproof. I have given 4 stars as I think I would need an all day in the rain trial to give it 5. The zip down the leg is brilliant and makes it so easy to get on and off.

I was reluctant to spend more than 50 on a pair of waterproof trousers but having been wet so many times before I purchased these trousers. I tried them out whilst walking the dog and they were excellent. I then tried them in torrential rain up a mountain in the Lake District and once again I was bone dry (unlike my friends). They are worth every penny and are extremely comfortable, lightweight and easy to get on and off. The gifted material is a must for anyone who wants to keep the elements at bay. Excellent purchase

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersHaving had many pairs of over trousers for work and leisure over the years I was especially pleased with the design, quality and price of this product. The long boot zip and venting zips are spot on for functionality and the fit I chose for my waist size of 34″ leaves enough room for comfort without acting like a windsock. The material is way lighter than I have used in the past so it may show signs of wear eventually but they are not something you normally put on every time you head for the lonely places so I do not anticipate them falling to bits anytime soon. Replacement is usually because of rips on barbed wire and sharp stones which all my previous waterproofs have suffered from but thats my fault. The stow bag is a nice little addition and is surprisingly useful. These are great waterproof over trousers and especially for the price.

  34. Tom Mutchler says:

I’ve taken these out for its first extended test today – 7 hours of unremitting heavy rain walking and on a bike, and they’ve worked a treat, without much clamminess like you get with cheaper waterproofs. The fit was good for me – 1m89, with a 34 inch waist and a 34 inch inside leg. I’d been worried about this, as another review said they were a bit short for wear on a bike, but fine for me. They are a wee tad noisy, but from experience with other Gore-Tex stuff that diminishes after the first few wears. They’re pretty light and almost fold down into the little pouch you get for carrying them round in…well, almost! All in all I’m very happy. A zip pocket would have been nice though.

Expensive? Yes, but Gore-tex stuff always is, and there’s a reason for that – it’s bloody good.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI bought a medium and large 33″ to try to get the waist right, and I sent back the large. I’m 6’2″ and 14st (90kg) for reference. I was replacing my last pair of berghaus gore-tex trousers which I left on the train, so I generally knew what I wanted. The pack lite is a new material for me, and at first I was skeptical given how thin it was compared to my last pair, but I’m very impressed. One of the key things for me was that the trousers shouldn’t be too baggy/flappy and can maintain shape while getting battered on a mountain. So far so good, they wear like a pair of trousers and while they’re less insulated than my last they’ve proved brilliant in all conditions and I can’t fault them.

Golden Review Award: 36 From Our UsersCool, comfortable, extremely lightweight, totally waterproof. No excuse for not carrying these in your backpack. Coupled with a Berghaus Paclite jacket (bought 2 years ago) an ideal set of lightweight waterproofs. You will need warm clothing underneath in the winter as Paclite is just a breathable, waterproof shell. My perspective is that Paclite is not meant to be heavy duty I.e. It’s not a 3 layer Goretex. So not really for rock climbing and scrambling in my opinion. No pockets in these trousers, so not ideal for golf. Watch the size. I bought medium length but these were short at 31inch inside leg. The leg length in inches was not shown on the product details. I exchanged them (having to pay postage) for a long pair (34.5 inches inside leg when measured). Better buy long then short so they remain in contact with your shoe when the knee is bent whilst walking up a steep hill. The bottoms can be made narrower with a press stud to make sure they don’t catch under the heel. Really nice product.

Golden Review Award: 20 From Our UsersThe product is of very high quality. And it does what it should – it stops the water. Unfortunately, the pants do not fit properly. I am 1.90 m tall and have a slim figure. I chose M / Long. The waistband is pretty tight, but it’s okay. What bothers me is the length. With a slightly angled knee, there is already a big gap between the end of the pants and the shoe (a flat Goretex shoe). And it won’t slip back if you wear another pants underneath. So ,it’s not suitable for cycling. Either one would have to equip the pants with a mechanism that allows you to fix the pants down at the leg or you need an XLong version (35 “) for tall people. Then i would purchase immediately again.

Golden Review Award: 85 From Our UsersThese waterproof trousers were ordered for my father and recommend by myself as I’ve owned a pair for a number of years.
Most if not all waterproof trousers make you sweat, therefore the trousers you have on underneath your waterproofing are usually wetter than they would be if you weren’t wearing any waterproofs. Not with these, they are highly breathable. They can be zipped open all the way on both legs but I haven’t found a need for this. I’ve been mountaineering in them many times and even worn them over my thick textile motorbike trousers when on a tour of Scotland. I comfortably rode and stayed dry all day long. I have used them on the bike in heavy rain for long periods and haven’t come across any leaks apart from where the berghaus logo is on the knee. There was a slight leak there but nothing major at all. I don’t think this would be an issue with general use but on the bike my knees are bent and driving into the rain for long periods of time. I would highly recommend these to anyone, they can be expensive but I believe in the fact that you get what you pay for.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersPaclite is super light. These just weigh a couple of hundred grams. As a hill walker they don’t add much weight to my pack.
This is the second pair I’ve bought, the first I have been using for a few years now and they are still OK. The second pair is so I don’t have to borrow the pair from my hill walking pack (as I might forget one day to stick em back and subsequently just when I really need em….).
If I am just out for a wee walk or down the town and I think it might rain, well they pack down easily into the tiny wee bag that comes with them which fits easily into a standard jacket pocket.
I’ve seen various size guides for Berghaus trousers and they all different. I ordered large/regular. That translates into a 34 inch waist and 31 inch leg – just what I was looking for.
Bear in mind they are light weight, they certainly not industrial. Plenty tough enougth for general lesuire use.
In short excellant lightweight waterproof lesuire overtrousers.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI haven’t had the opportunity to test them in heavy rain yet, but I’m sure they’ll be fine. They feel very light: in their small mesh stuff sack: Large Regular = 241g. Be aware that they are a fairly small fit in the waist. I think they’re true to size length wise. I usually fit well in 31cm inside leg jeans which is usually sold as ‘regular’, and the length of these fit well in the length wearing boots. I am waist size 34″ and the ‘Large’ size fits very snuggly, slightly tight if anything, but comfortable enough to not bother returning them back to the UK from France. So if you’re 32″-34″ go for Large. If you’re 34″-36″ go for the next size up.

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersAs mentioned by other reviewers, these seem to be a good product. I am 5’10” with a 36 inch waist and a 30/31 inside leg. I ordered the “Large Regular” size. After unwrapping and holding them up, I thought they would not fit – however after putting them on over jeans, the fit was “snug” – I would have liked another inch or so as the waist elastic was stretched about 70%, definitely will not need the draw-cord. However, a quick test walk around, sitting, standing etc. and found them to be very comfortable. I think they could have been a little more generous but I am happy with the fit.

The legs have press fasteners about knee level and ankle. The zip opens from the ankle all the way up to the vent (pocket level) which is very useful if you have bulky clothes underneath and certainly assists getting them on over boots. Not the cheapest you can buy from Amazon, but the quality, look and feel makes paying the extra worthwhile (I hope). Time will tell . . . .

Golden Review Award: 29 From Our Usersice trousers but beware when sizing!! i wanted 32 waist 31 inside leg so ordered medium regular, they arrived and are tight on the waist (just acceptable, put it this way i will never have to use the adjusting cord). The attached label for the size is also confusing since when did 68 cm equate to 32 inches(waist) or 31 inches equate to 106 cm (inside leg). it would be useful if the sizing drop list gave some indication as to the actual size of the trousers in inches or centimeters( if they could cross reference accurately it would be less confusing) rather than just stating, medium regular, medium large etc etc..I had to rely on customer reviews to enable me to stand half a chance of getting an accurate fit, well almost!!!

I bought these due to frustration caused by getting soaked trousers when going out for lunch! I have Gortex jackets and umbrellas but there is nothing worse than spending the afternoon sitting in an office with soaking wet woolen trousers. An all too common occurence with our current weather!

These trousers serve their intended purpose admirably. Lightweight, waterproof, even in howling gales. I have already had to use them a number of times and am so glad I decided to buy them.

I did look in the one remaining highstreet retailer but their trousers (same brand, model etc) were 33% more expensive. Their website says they will price match but……. Who can be bothered negotiating when they are directly available from Amazon for a better price.

They pack away sufficiently small to be carried in a bag or glovebox so can be always available.

Great product, worth the extra cost compared to cheaper ‘shower-proof’ products. Would happily recommend
