Many have said this before and they are right, I would describe my ankles as looking like string hanging from cotton shorts and they’re still snug to put on. But they do fit me.
All in all, well made, comfortable and light shoes.
These boots are expensive but are comfortable and fit well. I have wide feet size 9 so bought size 10. They are lightweight yet feel strong and waterproof. Only downside is they are very difficult to put on due to the elasticated sock sown into the boot. They are getting easier the more I use them but still not great.
The first pair I got was leaking water in the left leg for a weird reason so I returned it and got another one. Its perfect I have nothing to complain about. Two of my friend have already gotten a pair each after I got mine. Lovely stuff
I will mostly be using these for hiking, dog walking and potentially work. I’ve only just got them but I have to say they are, so far, really comfortable and well made as you’d expect for the price. Personally I think they are overpriced.
I read about the sock liner on other reviews but it’s not as bad as some make out. I had no problem especially using the front and back loops as shown in my images. They help you pull your foot in. Best to measure your feet properly before splashing out because if you order too small you will probably struggle to get your foot in.
I will update at a later time to see if they are durable and waterproof.
So far, apart from the price, all is good. 4/5.
Quality boot quite expensive but goretex lining gives me the dry feet I need walking on the moors !
I have only one niggle I am 66 and find the elasticated inner sock very difficult to put on but the boot is worth the struggle
Did my Duke of Edinburgh gold in them. Weather couldn’t have been worse. Absolutely cannot fault the shoes at all. My feet were perfect after walking up mountains in pouring rainstorms for 4 days! Thanks, Berghaus!
Great quality as expected and comfy, however I think for someone with a size 9 should probably go for 8.5 as they are slightly bigger. I guess it depends if you have a narrow/wide foot. For narrow foot, probably best to go for a smaller size 8.5
Yes – really, pleased.
Snug fit and are comfortable and they look good. Excellent.
Yes, there is a slip-on technique but the quality of the product makes me think it will last.
Strong grip and good value in the black Friday deal.
Bought for a replacement of a more traditional style of hiking boot. These were comfortable out of the box and didn’t need breaking in.
The integrated gator is a great design point, keeps water and stones etc from creeping in the top of your boots. I have seen people complain this made the boots difficult to put on, I found that loosening the laces as far as you can solves this issue. Overall great boots, comfortable, waterproof and very grippy on the Lake District fells.
This is a lovely robust pair of lightweight boots. The mid ankle height offers great ankle support and the knitted collar sock look offers great security that nothings getting in.
The boots are all over waterproof and breathable.
They have thick rubber soles with perfect grip for any terrain.
Inside is a ortholite insert giving maximum comfort and cushioning.
These are designed to last and offer free repairs.
There is a front and back pull and the first few toys are extremely hard work.
Once on super comfy
These are a nicely put-together pair of hiking boots from Berghaus. With a textile upper, Gore-Tex lining and heat-sealed rubber trims these boots feel well set for foul weather but don’t have the heavy weight of traditional hikers.
The heel cushioning is superb comfortable and immediately noticeable on hard ground, but really comes into its own on full day or long walks. The reduction in fatigue is incredible, and they feel not unlike high-end running trainers.
The exterior sole is well-designed, with an array of cleats and treads well suited to trail walking. That said, they’ll also fare well tramping hills as they’re chunky enough.
The fitted inner sock is a tricky one. On the plus side it’s incredibly comfy and helps secure the boot, and while I haven’t done a great deal of wet or cold weather walking in these I can see it’ll be a benefit in those conditions. On the negative side it makes the boot difficult to get on and off, and over a month into wearing these several times a week the sock components haven’t loosened or worn-in whatsoever. They are fitted with super-sturdy loops on the front and back, akin to Chelsea boots, but these don’t do a lot when taking the boots off. For me, this isn’t the biggest burden and its more than acceptable considering how good these boots are all-round, but if you have accessibility issues then it might be worth considering.
I find these true to size, but as always with hikers it’s a good idea to size up around 0.5 to accommodate boot socks when the weather turns. Toe box is roomy and there’s no undue pressure anywhere on the foot.
Overall I’m very impressed with these boots, and I look forward to many seasons out with them.
Berghaus is a brand that can always be trusted and these walking boots are no exception. Comfortable and stylish, they should be durable enough to last a while.
My only minor criticism is that (like others here) I found them a little difficult to get on initially, so I’m hoping this will get easier the more I wear them.
These hiking boots are brilliant….. once i was able to get my foot into the elasticated ankle …. which was a struggle the first time, but ive got the hang of it now…… the boots fitted very well.
They are very comfortable and surprisingly light weight….. they look a lot heavier than they feel.
I’ve not been out in the bad weather yet but they do feel like they would keep my feet dry in wet weather hikes.
i normally pay between 50 – 75 for good walking shoes so these are a little more expensive than i would usually pay, but, as a vine member and being able to try these for the sake of an honest review , i have to say they are very good…… Would i pay 135 ….. nearly twice what i would normally pay….. probably not ….. but they are now my goto walking shoes.
So my opinion is …. if you can afford them, then they are worth it.
+++AAA
I’m glad I took a chance and went a size up. I’m normally a 10 but I went for 10.5. My feet are on the wide side and these are a bit of a squeeze for me. They are made on the narrow side. If you have typical width feet you’ll probably be okay but my wider feet struggle. I also really struggled getting these on and my feet properly into them. Saying that they are fantastic boots in their construction. Gore-tex waterproofing, really solid sole, lots of ankle support. If, like me though, and you have wider feet I’d be a bit wary about this particular boot.
The Berghaus Vc22 Multisport GTX boots are comfortable and light, after visual inspection of the boots I was very happy with the quality, they are made to a high standard.
The boots feel comfortable on and have a stitched in knit collar that hugs the ankle for extra comfort, they can get a little difficult getting your foot in with thick socks on but there are finger pulls to the front and back to assist with this.
The laces are thin and flat and hold tightly enough when tightened but I think they could have been a little thicker as they do feel flimsy and one of the laces has frayed on mine at the eyelet area.
When walking they feel sturdy and light, the soles offer fantastic grip with the OPTI-STUD pattern and VIBRAM rubber combination, the Orthlolite footbed provides additional cushioning whilst the durable ripstop upper provides protection.
PFC-free Durable Water Repellent treatment and waterproof-breathable GORE-TEX protects you from the elements.
I wear a size 9 in everything and these fit perfectly, the soles are solid and the upper fabric takes a little bedding in at the toe section when walking before they feel totally comfortable.
Overall, these are a quality mid hiking boot that will tackle almost any trail and feel confident in doing so, Thank you.
I always have dilema which size to pick, 9 or 9.5 as it varies from brand to brand. With this boots I didn’t need to go half size up so 9 would be perfect for me. Oh well, I ordered 9.5 but its still okay. In case I wear thicker socks I will feel more comfortable in them, not tight or anything.
Boots are nice looking. They are lightweight and top fabric is surprisingly thin but waterproof apart from the tong and upper sock parts.
Sole is very thick and supportive. It is anti-slip so perfect for climbing and walking on rocky surfaces. Sole has textured bottom, as shown on the photo. The toes are well protected by hard cap.
Slight downside is the side of the boots where we can see some creases, shown on first three images. When bending the foot, the creases are even more shaped. There is no way to fix it I think.
Other than that, these boots are high quality and hard wearing. Colours are nice too.
I’m happy with these boots but I think they are very dear.
I do a lot of hiking and will inevitably have to take off my shoe at some point during a long walk to remove stones or gravel that has managed to make its way into the bottom of my shoe. The Unique Selling Point of these hiking boots is that they contain an elasticated gaiter that is purpose-made to prevent this from happening. The gaiter has to fit tightly around the ankle to be effective, which in turn makes it quite difficult to insert your feet into the boots. I found that I had to hold the front tag when first inserting my forefoot and then held the rear tag whilst pushing my foot into the boot. With practice, it takes just over 90 seconds to put on put on and lace up both shoes, although removing them takes less than 45 seconds. Although this takes a little while longer than putting on that conventional hiking trainers such as my Meindl Caribe GTX, it would be time well spent if it prevents me from having to take off my shoes mid-hike to get rid of stones.
I usually take a size 10 in shoes and hiking boots and was pleased to see that these size 10 boots were a perfect fit. I was a little surprised to see how thin the laces were — they looked more appropriate to a shoe than a full-on hiking boot — I think Berghaus have missed a trick here and could have used more attractive, thicker hiking lace.
I first wore the boots when taking our dog for a 5 km walk through the woods yesterday and then followed this up today with a 20 km hike through the Hertfordshire countryside, with both tests conducted wearing 1000 mile Trail socks. I was really impressed how comfortable the “ride” was, despite walking over uneven terrain with stones, rocks and tree roots. This was down to an effective cushioning system, comprised of the Ortholite footbed insole in combination with other layers in the boot’s construction. The mid-ankle support also helped improved comfort when hiking compared to my standard trainers. The boots had excellent levels of grip thanks to the Opti-stud Vibram sole, which was on a par with my Meindl Bhutan hiking boots and better than the Meindl Caribe trainers.
Although today was dry so I didn’t get a chance to test the boot’s performance when walking through water, I can confirm that the boots do have excellent breathability as my feet did not feel sweaty despite hiking for 5 hours.
Most importantly, the gaiter system was completely effective and prevented any ingress from stones, grit or other debris, in contrast to my wife who had to remove her conventional hiking trainers twice during our 20 km hike
I am really impressed by these boots, which are now my first choice boots for hiking as they are so comfortable to wear. They take a little longer to put on than a standard trainer but the gaiter system actually saves time in the long run by allowing you to keep on hiking without having to stop to remove debris.
