We have a 100ft plus hedge which needs cutting both sides and these did a great job.
Would have preferred not to have. Saw blade on end better with slightly longer hedge blade but otherwise a good tool
Very good hedgecutter, easy to use and light enough to let the wife use it.
Just what I needed to clear a patch of very long grass.
I had to take out an ivy that was on a 30m long 5 m high wall, very overgrown, sides and top some thick branches, this dealt with them well. Contrary to what others have said the cutter on the end I found to be very useful with thick (up the 50mm) it cuts them with a little effort. All in all a good piece of kit for a reasonable price.
Great value for money, saw bit on the end very handy for thicker branches.
My son said a very good hedge cutter ,I’ve not used it ye
Very happy with my purchase, had absolutely no issues cutting back and overgrown hedge in my garden even cut straight through the thicker branches without issue. The saw tip end does work maybe wouldn’t rely on it as main option for cutting bigger branches but its a handy option for the odd bit.
Very light weight and easy to use. Very powerful indeed
Not to heavy to use. Did a good job on overgrown hedge.
I love this hedge trimmer. So much so that I bought two! Ok, that’s a lie – I accidentally “trimmed” through the power cable of my first one, twice – oops! That’s why I bought the second one! But I was happy enough with the first one to buy another.
Pros:
– There’s more than enough power for general garden tasks and fairly robust hedges. It makes mince meat of my holly.
– It’s reasonably light. It’s not going to win awards but given the size and the power it packs it’s a perfectly usable weight.
– It’s a fair price for the kit.
– The cable is nice and long, so I can work an entire hedge without having to go back to move the plug.
Cons:
– Obviously it’s cabled which has inherent risks (see above)
– It has this odd, small saw bit on one side of the end of the blades. I’m not sure what it’s there for and it occasionally gets in the way.
Would happily buy another should I slice through this one (again).
Only downside was I should have tried to find longer blade. Though I was going longer than previous but clearly not.
Anyway……easy to use, lighter than previous model, cut through privet hedge and Laylandii without issue. Good long cable. Happy with purchase.
I have started to use the cutter to cut our substantial mixed hedge.
Compared with my old cutter which I had for 17 years this one is much lighter but
on initial evidence equally as good that cutting a summers growth of woody stems.
Unfortunately somebody bright spark thought it was a good idea to add a cutter
on the tip that as far as i can see is pretty useless anyway(I prefer to use loppers for odd larger stem) and in effect gets in the way when cutting as with a gap between it and the first cutting blade it prevents the smooth movement of the blade from right to left as branches tend to get caught in the slot that
has no cutter, stopping the movement in its tracks and often causing the cutter to stop. Shame!
Cutting from left to right is a dream.
Take the cutter away and you would have an even better piece of kit.
Hopefully they will redesign it at the first opportunity
I nearly gave this 4 stars but then felt I should review it for what it is, not the ideal. I have used a petrol hedge trimmer and this obviously hasn’t got that power. The reason I didn’t buy petrol is weight and I could not safely use a petrol one off a step ladder at shoulder height. I wanted more power than a battery trimmer so I ended up with one with a cable which isn’t my ideal. But this works well. 4 stars for easy to use because it doesn’t always cut what you want with one sweep. Occasionally it took a few goes to cut what I wanted but that’s down to the power and I doubt other electric ones would be any better. I don’t know if the blade on the end is that useful as I prefer to use long handled croppers for the occasional thicker branch and I never expected to use the blade. The trimmer does cut what I expected it to cut though. It is lightweight and I was able to do a lot of trimming without needing a break. The double switch is a good feature as you can carry it using either handle knowing it cannot be accidentally switched on. If you’ve got lots of low hedges then I would recommend buying a petrol trimmer. Otherwise this is a good product and I’m happy with it and the finish I got on my hedges.
I’m not sure if the Black & Decker/Stanley brand is as significant as it used to be but these hedgetrimmers have been a pleasant discovery. I haven’t found a use for the ‘end bit’ – a sort of two-inch open saw blade beyond the trimming blades – but this is the right mix of the ingredients we needed – see the ‘headline’ I’ve used here. If they last more than a couple of years they will have been a complete success, but they are certainly off to a good start. We have very varied types and sizes of hedge and these have to cope with all of them. Impressive so far!
As per other reviews: the saw is a gimmick & the blade cover is a nightmare. However, the actual hedge trimming is great, beastly blades with good diameter cutting and reach. Demolished some overgrown and pretty hefty hedges, lopped small branches on overgrown trees. Would buy again, but probs look for one without the saw.
