Very powerful strimmer which I wholeheartedly recommend. Different strimmer cartridges for heavy or lighter duty strimming. Either way this thing obliterates weeds though it does eat through strimmer cable relatively quickly so I advise purchasing a couple of spares. I’m a lazy gardener and I hate gardening but this device had done it’s job in a quarter of the time my previous less powerful strimmer took. A win for me.
It takes no prisoners haha I thought it would be weak only having one line of strim line but no no I got this to replace my dads whipper snipper we got in Australia in 89 And it’s just as good
Bought the 900W. It’s super powerful, make sure to wear eye goggles as well as even though there is a protective shield this thing rips up everything out of nowhere.
I would highly recommend this strimmer. Does the job in less time.
Don’t hesitate.
I had a two cutter strimmer witch I could never get on with ,the times when it would jam up and take me 10 mins to sort out the wire ,so I bought a Black & Decker single cut strimmer what a difference much much better no hassel, great strimmer .
We got it put together fairly easily, but you have to pivot the strimmer 360 to put it into the strimming position, as opposed to the edging position. Took us a frustrating while to get the thing to pivot. Strims ok though. Just make sure you have a load of extra strimmer wire!
One of the more powerful electric strimmers at 900w
Comes with interchangeable wire spools, one normal one heavy duty wire, easily changed
900w plus the heavy duty wire should cut through all garden needs
Easily put together, length and handle angle can be altered for personal preference
Added wheel for precision edging
Only used it the once but very happy with the outcome
A good garden additio
I cannot understand the negativity with regard to this strimmer. I have received mine today and have taken it out and used it against mainly brick walls. I had no breakages of the nylon what so ever. I’m sorry for those who say they did but I have purchased many different strimmers from petrol ( massive mistake) to numerous electric strimmers.
This black and decker has by far out shone the rest I have purchased.
I say again. EXCELLENT!
Worked much better after loading own strimmer line onto cartridge. The line it comes with gets eaten through very quickly but we are strimming against sleepers for the most part. Other reviews complained about the weight, it’s not super light but I don’t struggle as a person of the fairer sex.
i have a damaged wrist so find it not as lightweight or as manoeuvrable as it could be but for an able boded person i am sure it is good on both of those items.
easy to use and trim lawn edges. a bit noisy but then so are others.
This strimmer cuts well and handles quite large weeds with the right cord. The main downside is the weight of the machine, a shoulder strap would alleviate this.
Definitely a powerful strimmer. Wear goggles.
Ideal for overgrown gardens.
It’s not overly heavy
Will cut the thickest brambles, struggles (understandably) with thicker stems.
The cord on the reel is actually pretty good and lasted most of a 22 x 20 ft overgrown patch of garden.
The so-called heavy duty line is pretty useless really and I won’t be buying again as the reel does the best job.
Early days but so far so good.
Now used it and it is not bad. My previous strimer was double string at this is single but coped well my needs. The rest I put down to Experience
I pondered for a long time whether or not to go for a cordless, but the state of my garden demanded a powerful strimmer. Finally settled on this one and i wasn’t disappointed. It’s not heavy but packs a punch and ate through my overgrown garden easily. The wide circumference of the strummer was a big plus as was the ability to swivel the head 180 degrees. A great buy that i would recommend to anyone.
This machine is more powerful than my old B&D, my old machine used heavy strip lines which come with this machine and that’s a big plus, because the auto feed line lasted less than 10 minutes on the long grass. The line got tangled and was being cut like there was no next hour never mind tomorrow.
Once I fitted the heaven duty strip lines it was like my old machine and cut the long grass like butter.
One downside to the machine is that it doesn’t have cable storage hooks like my old machine, I know the height is adjustable which is good because I am quite tall but you could have made clamp on ones for it.
All in all the machine is well worth the money and I will probably make some cable storage clamps
This strimmer took eight minutes – but along with quite a few gashes into the grass in the process!
It is very powerful, dispensing in large part with the need to resweep over areas. It does the job satisfyingly with one sweep.
And the wide cutting circle of 35 cms also helps to do the task far quicker.
The small wheel at the base to roll along the ground as you edge the grass after turning the stem 180, is another real plus. My previous strimmers both have heavily scarred areas from being dragged along the flagstones doing the same job.
I have however noticed a lot of small pieces of strimming cord around the garden and paths, so whilst the thicker cutting cord is far more effective, backed up by the powerful motor as it is, it may be that you get through more cord.
But aside from having to man-handle this weighty and cumbersome machine, it is in a class of its own as an extremely effective corded strimmer – especially for thicker grass and foliage areas.
The time saved on any job more than compensates for the extra effort needed to use it.
Just one word word of caution. This strimmer can quickly scythe straight through the grass into the soil in one sweep too if badly angled – so with far more power more care is needed.
But a great machine.
My old GL545 gave up after 20 years of very successful use and I replaced it with this up to date model. Feels and works the same as the old one and delighted with the automatic feed which is still the same.. In fact I’ve kept the old spool as a spare. I have tried other automatic feeder systems but like this one the best. A bit heavier with the larger motor (450w) but still manageable and the extendable handle is an improvement.
Wow. Easy to assemble. Used once. Easy to operate. Showed the grass and weeds who is boss. Bought it to replace another model that was as much use as a chocolate teapot. This is no chocolate teapot. It’s a full tea set made out of kryptonite. I think I’m in love
Bought this one as it was the most powerful one of the type.
I used the heavy duty strimmer wire from the get go, and not used the standard one yet as my garden really needed it!
Strimmer is really powerful and got through all the grass and various nettles and weeds really easily, did go through a couple of wires on the tougher sections, but it comes with a few spares anyway.
Really easy to put the strimmer together, and simple to swap the wires to new ones too.
Because its so powerful it does vibrate a bit, so I could only use it for about 30 minutes before I had to set it down and let my arms recover and stop vibrating! So be aware that if you are not used to heavy tools like this that you will probably need to take some breaks in between if you have a fair amount to trim.
The only complaint I would have, is not so much the strimmer itself, but amazon and their frequently bought together section. I bought some extra heavy duty wire to go with it, as suggested by amazon, which turn out not to be suitable for the model I bought, didn’t realise this until I had received it. Fortunately they can be sort of adapted to work with it, but not officially, and no idea if it will damage the wire holder, so just make sure you are getting the correct ones.
I got the cheapest one and honestly it’s amazing, I have a metal fence through my front garden to separate the plots (courtesy of the Council ) So, the wire inevitably kept hitting the metal fence and alas it didn’t break, sure it got shorter a bit but it didn’t just break off.
I used it to cut all 3 of my gardens, including brambles, nettles etc.
A wonderful determined little strimmer BUT… Now, I have carpal tunnel syndrome so having to hold the trigger continuously really is a struggle, not to mention I need to switch hands frequently and it isn’t the lightest piece of kit, but that’s my flaw more than this items.
This is quite heavy and I find it a bit unbalanced – it seems to tip forward and it makes my arms ache in use and, being a bit on the clumsy side, I actually managed to slash my ankle with it on one occasion (it looked worse than it was and healed up fairly quickly). Totally my own fault and that said it does do a pretty good job but I find it a bit of a pain to use (no pun intended) so I tend to not get it out as much as I otherwise would.
Having said that, however, if it was easier to use but didn’t do a very good job, I probably wouldn’t use it much then either. I should probably just put it on Ebay and not bother with a strimmer at all!!!
Joking apart, I would recommend this with reservations – as I said it does a really good job but it’s not my favourite tool. Would probably be ok for a big strapping bloke.
I got fed up with my petrol engine strimmer not working at the start of every year, and then not starting at random throughout the year.
So I decided to give up trying to be macho and get a powerful 240v mains strimmer instead.
(The garden is not massive and unsurprisingly I already have and extension cable anyway)
There aren’t too many electric brush cutters to choose from in the 900W region or above, or those that qualify as a brush cutter.
I don’t mind Black + Decker as you can often get spares. There used to be a shop in Leeds you could just walk into and buy whatever part you wanted, BRILLIANT. but I see most spares are still easily available online.
This was a Amazon second, so slightly reduced in price but you would never know it had been opened or used in this case.
Assembly was literally a minute or two with no tools or scratching my head.
At the first use I was a bit disappointed that the ‘strong’ 3mm line only lasted less than a minute.
But by using the longer 2mm reel line I did the whole job in a hour or so and used the whole reel up ! Job done.
But now I have the weeds under control a reel will last months.
It easily went through everything except the thickest bramble, which is understandable without a metal cutter.
Turning the unit around to do edging was easy to do with one lever and has a firm click (SCHNICK!) as you turn the shaft to ensure a 180 degree fit.
Swapping the line over is easy too, (turn it upside down with no fear of petrol spilling out) and if you have a moderate thumb grip to open the locking mechanism it all pulls out and you quickly replace it with another loaded reel..
I really like this strimmer and it does all I want it to.
If I remove all the additional time and expense needed for a petrol strimmer I got the job done in half the time !
It has done the hardest cut – the first for a long while – with ease and I hope it will continue cutting with an easier life for a while to come yet.
Basically houses on the edge of forests or agricultural land need full commercial grade. The rave reviews don’t always mention that aspect. This unit could do with a shoulder strap & a slightly longer neck, but the motor does seem good & strong. The HD wire is fine for heavy domestic but just isn’t up to tough rural jobs so I’ve ordered some Rotary Black Vortex Professional Trimmer Line .095″ from Amazon (after watching some good YouTube recos). If that doesn’t work i’ll try the thicker .105″ or Husqvarna Titanium Force Line, ie one of the super tough lines the pros reckon is even better that pro Stihl square. If no joy after that next stop will be a swivel tri head metal brush cutter! Hopes that helps put things in context. Have fun!
This is my third strimmer, and I had always been depressed about strimming because of the usual problems with line feed. I had not paid much for my strimmers but I didn’t want to spend a lot of money and still have the same problems, and reading reviews made me realise that you could pay a lot and still not get a good result.
This strimmer has two alternative spools, one with a spool and a single line feed, and one with a clip on double line. Both lines look tough, different colours but looked approximately equally tough.
I had a thirty square yard patch with grass about eighteen inches tall, and some fairly tough weeds as well. Some brambles but not many.
Using the spool feed, I cleared this down to two or three inches in 6 minutes. I don’t know if the automatic line feed worked or if the line just wasn’t bothered, but it was the same length as when I started.
I had another patch of thirty square yards which was mostly brambles, growing up to two feet high in places. Both patches of garden, I should explain, I had hacked at with a billhook two or three times a year for the past three years, but otherwise they had not been disturbed. The brambly patch had some big slabs of slate on it which the brambles had grown over and I wanted to clear it back to the slabs.
I decided to use the double line on the brambles. It did great, but about a third of the way through the line had worn down. I think it goes from stress, because once it started to go it went completely. So I put another one in and that one went faster. Some of the brambles were growing around a concrete post and others against a sturdy wooden fence so perhaps that was why. I then changed back to the spool and completed the task with no problem, the line staying at the same length.
I think that means the automatic line feed was working perfectly which was a first for me!
The whole job, sixty square yards, including three spool changes, took half an hour.
So, I thought, OK, I clearly need something with a bit more horsepower, and I bought this one.
Within a few seconds, I realised I was holding onto a very different device. This fellow not only strimmed grass and weeds, it hated them with a passion and wanted to annihilate them. I started swinging it like my old strimmer, which I now realise used to perform like an old lady with a pair of nail-scissors.
This strimmer is the Chuck Norris of strimmers. If you angle it a few degrees too much, you end up with a large patch of bare earth that no longer contains a single molecule of grass DNA. And Chuck is happy with that result. If you strim close to a mature tree (which my old strimmer did, leaving no visible marks), Chuck wants to cut the entire tree down. It even left deep welts in concrete paving!
So, beware! If you have a well-manicured, small garden and just want to trim a few straggly edges, Chuck is not for you. It is like sending in a fully-armed soldier to resolve a disagreement in the school playground.
However, if you have a large area to clear, with tall grass and weeds, and you don’t mind a few chunks of bare earth when your aim dips from 20-degrees to 22-degrees, or seeing some sturdy saplings that suddenly look the worse for wear, then Chuck is the very fellow for you.
You have been warned.
I prefer to take the guard off & I find it really whizzes through grass and with a heavy line will take out quitechunky brambles too. seems quite rugged survived 2 years so far with nothing stupid going wrong with it but, something causes the caps to break every now and then, being quite powerful and maybe bashing the ground or hitting the brambles too hard mght cause a lot of vibration and the plastic tabs on the cap can break although the caps are replaceable better just to be careful with it, and with the standard light line stay away from the edges until last because it goes through it quickly otherwise. You can get a dual line cap for it as well as the heavy duty cap
Generally great all round – blitzkreig on the jungle! Will tackle overgrown gardens well. Wear goggles it kicks up dirt and the odd stone.
If you ask me electric is much easier to store than petrol
It was easy to assemble. Another reviewer comments that it ould be difficult for a lady to assemble. That’s not the case! I managed it. You need a Philips screwdriver to fit one screw into the blade cover. That’s supplied separately, slots into place and is then secured with a screw. The handle locks into place by depressing two buttons; that took a little effort, mainly as I have arthritis and a bit of grip difficulty, but I did it without assistance. I increased the length a little as I’m fairly tall and found it very well balanced. The curve in the pole part is great and I find it easier to use than the last one as the weight is better distributed. There’s less strain on the lower back and shoulders it’s this one.
I like the little wheel to take the weight of the cutter to tidy up edges. Although I found it a bit tricky to cut a straight line, I think that’ll improve with practice. The real work is keeping under hedge areas around the garden beat and tidy. It’s a mix of grass, young bramble, nettles, dock, cow parsley and other assorted weeds. The wire supplied works very well with the grass, but isn’t as good with tough stalk. However, the blue single strimmer lines tackle the tougher stuff like a knife through butter. It comes supplied with 4 and I have a few left from the previous strimmer, which will fit this one.
The slightly larger motor makes strimming easy. I have quite a lot of garden edges and lawn to keep tidy and this does the job with minimum effort from me. I’m very happy with how it performs and pleased to note it has a 2 year manufacturer’s warranty.
