We had a smaller Blagdon for 7 years which we loved but we decided to upgraded and so glad we did Easy assembly and sturdy, as it is on our decking it wasn’t quite level so bought some black guttering, filled with soil and pea shingle then added some easy going plants which will establish over time and just finished the pond off.
After opening the box. Good job we dudnt build it 1st. We found the light that was boxed with the filter ect was smashed and also plastic parts were broken. There should be a warning on the filter box to explain to handle with care
I ordered this and it arrived (not in new condition and had missing items) some of the supporting beams wouldn’t even fit as they were longer.
However the seller arranged collection of the item and I purchased another one which came in as described and was easy to put together. It looks beautiful and even though it was frustrating to have to return the first one this one arrived in perfect condition and we love it.
Brilliant purchase, bigger area and magnified portholes are great for seeing all the fish. Construction was okay took about 2hrs, instructions were adequate also Blagdon’s video helped. Fits neatly into small garden, pump options, flower basket and waterfall add to a great buy.
I paid a 230 discount for a damaged box.
Okay I hear you say that’s a big discount for a damaged box
There was a bit more than that, there is a label on one of the port holes that can’t be removed.
The liner holding bolts don’t fit , thank goodness for cable ties but over all a lovely little pond.
Looks fabulous on my patio.
I bought one of these a year ago. It had 5 windows and 2 plant baskets. I need another pond and have been happy with the current one, so I searched for another the same spec to match. I checked World Of Water and Amazon and oddly enough they both said their Blagdon ponds had 3 windows and 1 plant basket. Reluctantly, I ordered it, only to find it has come from World Of Water and has 5 windows and 2 plant baskets. I now have 2 ponds side-by-side and I love them. WOW need to correct their adverts, and I recommend these ponds. It takes 2 people 2 hours to erect, but once erected they are great to look at and see your fish swimming.
A total pain in the arse to put together but did this solo so with two people it would probably be ok. It’s also pretty small. I’ve had Blagdon ponds before and didn’t measure but it’s fine for my two fish and less of a hassle to clean. Over all really pleased.
Instructions were not as clear as we were lead to belive but once up and filled with water its lovely.sadly we put 2 of the window port holes in upside down lol and hadnt realized till it was full of water so we left it alone.we had our first 3 kio carp taken by a heron so it has a net on the top of it now.its lovely to sit and listen to when done
Love my new pond. It took me about two hours to put up by myself. Looks great in my garden. Can’t wait for the summer to enjoy it more.
Please ensure that you unpack EVERY LITTLE ITEM before you start assembly. Not easy to assemble but the reward can be great. The package I had delivered was unfortunately tampered with. The light part of the pump had been used or at the very least returned. There was tell tale tape around the cable that was not part of the set, clearly someone had tried to thread the cable through a wall before returning it! The box was slightly damaged but at the time I paid no attention to it forget it at your peril!!!!
Now that it is assembled and on the decking I’m happy with it but it was a bit of a pain to assemble and I never managed to get the plant holder to stay clipped in.
Very happy with this free standing pond seemed a bit flimsy when putting together but once built and filled with water looks great and the 2 fish seem happy in it! Filter seems good water always clear only negative the light is on 24/7 so removed it apart from that great addition to garde
Great pond, great value and looks great. Only problem is that this model is not covered by the clear water guarantee and due to it not having a UV clarifier ends up with pea green water within weeks. Thankfully a UV upgrade can be purchased separately.
we love the viewing windows and the adaptability of where you can place it. it took more than a day to build but it was worth it and probably reflects our skills rather than the kit!
I bought this pond just over 2 years ago so thought I’d offer my considered opinion on it. Firstly, it looks really nice. It’s very relaxing sitting in the garden on a summer evening, listening to the waterfall and watching the fish swimming past the windows. Overall, I’m glad I bought it.
That isn’t an unreserved recommendation though – it needs a LOT of work to keep it looking nice and the pump working properly. The in pond filter unit takes up approx 50% of the area of the base of the pond which means that a large portion of fish poo and general muck either lands on or gets drawn into the filter. This seems to overwhelm it and, during the summer in particular, the pump pretty much much grinds to a halt every 1 – 2 weeks. This means the filter needs taking out, cleaning and the pump unit flushing through with a hose. Then it’s great again, but it’s a time consuming, dirty and unpleasant job. A friend bought the larger size version of this pond (which is what prompted me to get mine) and he doesn’t seem to have the problem to the same extent so I think it’s largely a result of how much of the base of the pond the filter takes up – in a larger area more muck would settle around it than in it!
The water also evaporates at an alarming rate in the summer too and it needs topping up every week (not a problem Blagdon can do anything about of course, but worth bearing in mind in terms of maintenance levels). Lastly, the porthole windows go green with algae very quickly when the sun is on them, and again scrubbing them clean is a weekly task. I’ve only ever cleaned them with the official cleaning cloths Blagdon produce and they were fine for 18 months, but in the last 6 months they have started to scuff slightly, leaving them looking a little cloudy even when clean, which is a bit annoying as it’s lovely to see the bright colours of the fish when the windows are properly clear.
In summary, these ponds are a nice addition to your garden but if I were to buy one again I’d go for the larger size, otherwise be prepared to spend a lot of time maintaining it!
We bought our Blagdon Affinity Octagon Mocha Weave pool at the end of June. We’d seen the pool up and running in a local garden centre a year ago and nearly bought one. But thought it maybe an impulse purchase. So we waited and 9 months later still wanted one. And we are glad we now have one in our garden.
The quality is very good and it was fairly easy to install / set up with good instructions and a bit of patience! Value for money wise it is well worth the investment. The sound of the water flow on our patio is relaxing and having live fish to look after and watch is just lovely.
The only negative I have is that the set up does not come with plugs. For a pond that cost in excess of 400 it is worth the criticism on here.
If you are thinking about buying one and cannot decide if you ant to spend the money all I can say is that you will not regret it. The initial outlay is long forgotten once you are up and running.
A quality product.
Really love this pond.. it was very easy to assemble, I did it with ease by myself.. I did read reviews that said things did not align properly but if you take your time and make sure you follow the steps this does not become a problem and everything lined up well.. looks so good when up and running.
I had to look at the video several times to construct but I made it.
I found the mounting clips for the fountain would come off and fall into the pond so I put two self tapping screws in to keep it in place
Nice sturdy above ground pond but instructions made it alot harder to put together than it should have been. I recommend when putting sections together, put the leg in too and clip them together. It stops the parts separating then as you work around the pond top section. Overall it looks great in the garden and I’d definitely recommend it as an all in one solution for any garde
Really pleased with our little fish pond .was easy to put together x love that it lights up to would recommend if you have a tiny garden as you could put it anywhere
This is my second (but larger) blagdon infinity pool, its great value for money, top tip make sure you know exactly what you need before you start building your pond and getting the pump working, you will need a transformer switch box, obviously being my second one I was Awre of this, you will need a net to prevent animals getting to your fish. Use the YouTube video and follow the instructions slowly and methodically. You can also buy extra plant baskets too.
When this arrived I thought somethings missing box is not big enough, so I couldn’t wait for help to assemble, I’m 76 with arthritis in hands and fingers., so I set about doing it myself. I’ve got to admit it wasn’t easy and it took me about 3hrs to assemble outer layer the screws we’re the hardest for me but I managed. Left liner until next day, now that was not easy to clip liner onto hooks but I eventually got there, set it where I wanted it, I already had a barrel pond with 4 fish in so I emptied that one, filled the new one up and I am really happy with it in fact I’m sure the fish are enjoying it as they are always at the windows as if their looking out. If you read about the pond it says only one planter and no plug fitted. One very happy customer now that it’s built.
Really loving this pond. I wanted to get it set up and give it a few weeks to settle before introducing the fish.. and even though they’re not in it yet, I love the gentle trickle and just being able to see the plants through the windows, especially when the sun shines down and makes them dance with the rays from the ripples!
It wasn’t the easiest to put together on my own, but got it done in a couple of hours (with waiting for the panels to warm in the sunshine).. but DO put the fleece down first.. you assemble it upside-down!
The liner doesn’t sit straight down the walls, so I can’t put the plants that sit on the bottom into the corner and have had to put in a couple of bricks just to keep them in place and stop them sliding further into the middle. I’ve used S-hooks to hold the marginals pots, hooked into the pre-drilled holes, rather than buying extra clip-in blagdon holders.
It’s taken a couple of weeks for the water to become properly sparkling clear, without addition of anything. My water came from water butts, and was pretty murky to start.
Can’t wait to get the fish in and see them swimming about.
All great apart from the support strut screws and plugs which I have had to superglue into place apart from that it was easy to assemble..
The liner I have had to fix in with cable ties but altogether worth the money ..
Top tip before installing the pump remove the stuff from the bags also run them I’m clean water for a few days as they do cloud the pond
The instructions was not clear, no plug on filter or light which I thought would be included with the price of 400 now have to go and buy to get it up and running, outside rattan easily threaded when putting together, don’t put it up when you have children around you they think it’s a paddling pool
I was very pleased with this pond. During the 2020 lockdown I made a pond out of a half barrel, but the fish soon outgrew it. I saw this on Amazon and the price was right, so purchased it. I’m not technically minded, but my neighbour is, he soon had it together. The hardest part of the job was levelling the pond. Once all was completed, pump put together and wired in, filled with rainwater, I put the fish back. They seem happy, but who knows with goldfish. Added some stones from a local garden centre which look good. Can’t add more fish or plants until the spring. So will update later. The only niggle which is not really important, is I can’t find how to attach the provided plant holders. Will keep thinking.
Just thought I’d share this, the pond has been in place for six weeks now and has attracted many admirers. I cleaned out the filter yesterday – easy to do – and at the same time I wiped away the algae that had covered the unit. I paid special attention to the sensor and the LED bulb, since then, the light has not been on almost 24/7 and the bulb is brighter. Just a tiny thing but worth knowing.
It’s fairly simple to put together and I imagine it’s easy to dissemble too. It’s a nice little addition to the decking area! It came with different pieces for the mini fountain so you can change how the water comes up too. Definitely not a bad purchase 🙂
I’m happy with the pond now its up and running.. The foundation is perfect. The pump and filter unit so easy to put together and working great. I was surprised how powerful it was for such a small pond .
Excellent points.
Idea for a water feature or pond for small spaces . Excellent instructions.
Everything is marked with labels so it’s easy to know what goes where .
The only down side is the special tool to put the locking clips in.. its sharp and cut my hands using it. It can be so hard to lock them in place. You need to think about smoothing the sides on the tool to make it better .
Would I buy the pond again ..yes I would and recommend it to family and friends
Absolutely brilliant, especially considering the price on Prime Day. Ive added 6 underwater remote control lights for under 20, 3 articial plants from Amazon for under 18, plus 4 pond plants from a local aquatics centre.
My fish will go in, in a cpl of days after the live bacteria and declorinator have a chance to create the proper environment etc. (Again these can be bought from a local aquatics centre or Amazon.. Both cost around 19 together and last ages)
As for assembly, I did it on my own as a middle aged female in a cpl of hours. The ‘view’ products seem to be the ones causing installation issues but not this one. The instructions are unclear in parts so I would recommend watching the You-Tube videos if you struggle.
So far I genuinely can’t recommend this product highly enough
Not easy to set up. At each stage, those last pins are difficult to get into place when everything is under tension. There was also the worry that if the liner leaked in the end, I would have not considered dismantling and returning it, after all this work. I would probably have gone out and bought a standard liner to drape inside the frame.
That said, everything was fine and working. It’s filled, planted and has fish in. It’s also ideal for my situation where I can’t dig down.
This is an amazing and modern way of installing a pond. You definitely need two people to build. The pond is sturdy and the plastic window panels are a key feature which you end up staring at for hours… The provided filter pump is also brilliant just remember to remove the white carbon filter from the plastic bags as i totally forgot and wasn’t filtering probably. Also very easy to clean pump filter. I didn’t incase the pump wiring like they did within the pond lining as this restricts you from removing the pump out for cleaning, i just hid the wires behind the plants. So whenever i cleaned it i had enough slack to take pump out and clean filters.
Received the pond in good time from Amazon. Assembly was easy and took around an hour and a half . Two things that I done that may help is I used a large flat blade screwdriver for the securing clips , this way you can keep pressure on the clip while turning it . Also I used some washing up liquid on the runners to help slide the panels in . It jus made the whole process a lot easier . Its build upside down . Make sure the liner is warm before you lay it in , leave it in the house or sun for a couple of hours it helps, You need two plugs for the filter and pump , but there is plenty of cable. The pond looks and works great . It is expensive but worth i
The LED light in the 5 in 1 Pond which comes with the Pond kit, is being mis-sold. It’s advertised as an ‘Automatic Night Time Spotlight. This is not correct, there is no sensor so the light stays on 24/7 if the pump is plugged in. I’ve contacted Blagdon to ask for the correct light unit to be sent as a replacement.
Update: Blagdon have satisfactorily addressed my problem so have to say they have been prompt and professional.
I have had a smaller Affinity Pond before and learnt from this experience that the Pump supplied is very bulky and underpowered to be effective.
So I have now bought myself the Grand Octagon 700 Litres which is big and perfect in every way, ( but please don’t keep Koi Carp in these ). Apart from the poor performing included Pump which immediately got sold on.
Something to note about the lighting system on the included Pump. The Lights have no On / Off switch, it should be noted that fish need to rest as well during night time or they will suffer Stress.
I have now purchased an All in one 9000 Pump compared to 3000 supplied with more powerful 13w UVC compared to the 5w supplied and loaded this with filter bags full of AlfaGrog media for effective removal of harmful Ammonia and Nitrite to less harmful Nitrate. Since the Bacteria that converts the first two can grow on any surface. But the Bacteria to deal with Nitrate, requires conditions to grow within the media and takes considerably longer to establish. Most suppliers do not take the Nitrate problem serious enough, relying on the owner to undertake regular weekly water changes to lower Nitrate levels in the Pond or Aquaria instead.
Pond is so easy to assemble and I have included instructions from the supplied manual in this review.
In addition I have also purchased 2 x Affinity Waterfalls connected to a ‘Y’ 10mm pipe connector.
In the centre of the Pond I have installed a 90L upside down cube aquarium also referred to as an upside down pond that provides extra swimming space to the fish and looks brilliant.
From past experience of these I would certainly recommend the Pond Heater for those freezing temperatures as the Pond is not deep enough with the sides exposed to the freezing conditions outside which may cause fish deaths.
Otherwise Great Pond but poor performing included Pump.
The pump included in this Kit is the 5 in 1 2000. it will not be able to have the waterfall feature, just standard water fountain. the LED light does not switch off either. I rang Blagdon and they said that all new Kits now have the 3000. pump, which does allow for the waterfall and the light can be switched of or can be put on a sensor. The Pond itself looks lovely when complete but is a bit fiddly to put together, this can be done by 1 person, but if you have help that would make it easier. as i have the 2000 pump i wasn’t able to have the Waterfall which is particularly what i wanted. but i had already added the fish so couldn’t send back… which is a shame as that was the main reason i brought the pond for the waterfall. although in my picture the waterfall is attached, the pipe wasnt secure and kept popping out of the inlet valve, thats when i knew it was the wrong pump for the waterfall.
I read the reveiws, watched the videos on assembly and decided this easy option was for me.
Arrived early on the prescribed day, set out all the components and laid out the underlay, decided this was not large enough for construction so laid out our camping mats. Bgan by trying to push together the top rails and had to resort to the workshop to reform several of them so that they sat home. However on putting the uprights in place the whole thing fell appart. NOT what the video showed!!!!!
Resorted to a peice by peice build.
One brace peice was only partialy drilled but soon remedied. The rest of the construction was easier until I came to the FEET. These were very badly formed and melted so had to put them through the workshop again.
The whole BUILD took 4hrs 2hrs of which were spent on the top rails.
A nice addition to the garden living area and I will get lots of enjoyment out of it.
The video on youtube should be re worked with more detail of construction.
I was close to not purchasing this due to the number of reviews regarding difficulty of assembly, however I was gladly surprised how simple it was. I’m not sure if the instructions or quality have improved recently but it took about an hour and a quarter to assemble, working steadily. The only discrepancy in the instructions is to feed the cables between the liner and frame before starting to clip the liner to the frame at the back inclusing the back corners (instructions state to leave two out but it’s not enough).
The overall look of the pond is excellent. As it has only been up and running for less than a week I can’t comment on the quality of the pump/filter but for the size of the pond I think it will be OK (filter includes ceramic media, 2 different mesh filters and a top layer of filter wool, as well as the UV). I will provide an update in a couple of months on the quality of the water and the pond itself.
Overall really pleased with it and would give it 5 stars, but until I’m confident the water quality is maintained can only give it 4.
Update, not quite the couple of months as I stated above! However, after owning this for nearly 2 years I am still happy with it. Sticking to 4 stars as I’ve had an issue with the pump. One side of the handle broke, it does still lock down though. With the handle not being fully secure I started to lift with the tube, and this managed to become undone (refitted it but meant taking the UV housing out to retread the nut and tighten back up). So lesson there, don’t lift it with the tube 🙂
