Easy to use couldn’t believe the amount of thatch it pulled out my grass. It’s a lot easier than trying to manually rake it out. The only issue if I’m being picky is the bolt set up for the handle can be a bit fiddly and feel like they won’t last, time will tell otherwise great piece of kit.

I had help putting it together though it wasn’t difficult. Being light it is easy to transport to the front and back gardens. It did a good job of cutting the grass and scarifying the lawn on my first attempt. My lawn will need a few more attempts to clear the moss. Getting there

    Light to manoeuvre and efficie

I have used a number of scarifiers/lawn rakes over the years and I have to say this is the best one yet.
Slightly fiddly to put the handles together (mainly because of the poor handle clip design) but does a really good job and collects a lot in the basket before you have to empty it. Cheaper versions only collect small amount and you have to empty them constantly.
However, the handle clips really let this down. You expect quality from Bosch and for this price but the clips are really cheap and basic and are a pain to use, needed two hands and quite a bit of pressure on each clip to engage them, so takes quite a bit of effort to reassemble after it has been stored.
The clips on my Bosch lawnmower are so much better and easy to use. They should have used the same ones on their lawn rake.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis is an automated rake that’s less harsh on a lawn than scarifying. It has 3 settings of height, a 900W motor, and will remove most thatch and moss with it’s tines (2 spares are included).

This will prepare a lawn ready for seeding with a scattering of compost to cover.

If there’s a deeper rooted problem you’ll need the Bosch AVR 1100 VertiCutter Lawn Raker, which is fitted with blades; it’s a true scarifier with a larger motor. Scarifying will require additional compost to blend the lawn back.

It’s not mandatory to add soil after, but I would say it’s essential. These machines open up trenches in the lawn which weeds, especially dandelion seeds, find a way into and stay put.

Tines do sometimes break if they hit a stone slab or tree root, but can be replaced easily.
The blades on a scarifier lose sharpness over time and will either need to be sharpened or replaced. If they hit a stone slab or tree root the machine also takes an impact, so you need to be extra careful!

The collection box is flimsy. However, I believe this is deliberate as strong sunlight has a negative effect on certain plastics which make them turn brittle. I can’t imagine this will happen on the Bosch so I’m overall very happy.

Don’t forget to register your extended warranty on the Bosch-diy website!

I had quite a struggle trying to assemble the handles. Once set-up, it was very easy to use although heavier than my previous lawnrake. It is very efficient at removing the mat of dead grass and has a larger capacity, needing emptying less often.

We had one ages ago and I lent it out to a friend. It came back with no tines left on it. This modern version seems much sturdier and saves you the back breaking job of raking the moss out of your grass. I have had major problems trying to get the extra year’s warranty (total 3 years) as the Bosch website is distinctly user unfriendly. However the actual rakes is brilliant and the tones are very strong. Does a great job!

Five seconds after switching this on, it was evident this was worth its money. Quite a bit more expensive than other options, yes, but the old adage “you get what you pay for” seems to ring true here – strong moss-lifting power and a proper collection box. The box being mounted at the back makes this easier to use than many other options. Assembly wasn’t as easy as it could have been – the box is delivered as two parts and was a bit faffy to put together, and the handles really didn’t seem to fit, but with some brute force eventually worked – fine if you’re going to leave this assembled, but would be a hassle if you expected to fold it up in to the small space advertised. For my needs, this seems to be a good product.

The grass collection box is a bit flimsy but the machine works well and is so easy to use.

I have a problem with moss in the garden and bought this to reduce the moss as it was taking over the lawn.
On its first use I removed about 8 basket fulls of moss which was 400 litres of moss from the garden which was about 15 by 10 metres.
This was about a week or so of using a granular weed/moss killer on the lawn which had blackened the main moss patches. I had tried to manually rake the moss but found that the Bosch scarifier made the job so much easier and vastly more effective. Like all Bosch products I have it is superb quality and so easy to use. Build quality is excellent. I would highly recommend this product.

The machine was easy to assemble, but I did have some springs left over, I assume they are spares. The machine was easy to operate, as a first run, I had it on the highest setting. The amount of dead grass and moss it pulled out was impressive, I filled three bags of grass, thatch and moss. Overall it appears to be a very good machine.

Much bigger than we thought, which wouldn’t matter except we have quite a small garden and not that much grass. Also not sure if it’s our new turf or the lawnmower, but after mowing the grass seems shredded more than usual

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersOn unpacking I thought I had only got half of the collection box, then realised the half I had got was actually both parts clicked together so ingeniously it was not obvious it was two components. Works fine. The height setting is easy to use. The large collection box and fan action means you do not have frequently empty it (which is good because removing and refitting the box is a bit of a fiddle).
The air inlet for the fan tends to get blocked (see photo) and there is no easy way to clean it. You have to use a stiff bristle brush. The “compact storage” claim is misleading…
When unpacking it you need to memorise how all the parts were fitted together to get it to fit into its box. To make it compact again you have to completely disassemble it and fit the 3D jigsaw of parts back together into its “compact storage” form. It takes some time. So now I just remove the collection box and fold the handle down. I don’t want to spend half an hour reassembling it every time I want to use it.

Its tines are not as close together as my old scarifier, so the Bosch does not pick up as much moss in a single pass. But the old one did not have the fan action and its collection box had to be emptied every 5m (15ft). Doing 2-passes with the Bosch is less effort than doing 1-pass with the old machine.

Conclusion: It is a very good device apart the “compact storage” claim. Compact storage adds an hour of assembly and disassembly to each session. The fan action, which compresses the liftings into the collection box, is an excellent feature.

Not easy to fold compact for storage

I did lots of research and Bosch were head and shoulders above the competition. When it arrived, assembly was simple, partly because it’s so light. Using the lawn rake was stress free, and the huge collection box, meant I didn’t have to stop and empty it too often. Delighted with the purchase Snd the results.

Used on the highest setting removed a lot of moss and thatch from my lawn, looked at it and thought what have I done. 3 weeks later and a box of grass seed, sun and water and my lawn is looking great. It’s nearly as good as when I first laid the turf ;15 years ago. Will use later in the year on a lower setting after the last cut of the year and reseed. Could do with a bigger grass box otherwise great if a little scary at first.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersSo easy to use took all the hard work out of removing the moss o did one pass at number 3 setting and couldn’t believe how much miss it dug it the next time I cut the grass I used setting 2 after it was cut and again it dug out a mass of moss the next time I cut the grass I will do on setting 1 and all the moss should be eradicated
I did it this way as I didn’t want to put the machine under too much pressure trying it on setting 1 straight away as my garden was full of moss and had never been scarified before
Great purchase very pleased with results and ease of use

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersBought this as I wanted to get rid of the moss from the lawn. Tried to get as much information but it all seams a bit hit and miss so my findings:-

    1) Expensive machine to use two times a year
    2) But it does work and is worth it for the price
    3) Out of the 4 levels only the lowest setting made a mark on my lawn
    4) Yes it does leave lines but that helps promote growth with the grass
    5) Make sure you go over the lawn twice, Once vertically then again horizontally
    6) The amount of waste and moss it did pick up was huge.
    7) Doing it by hand would have been better but would have also taken a lot more back breaking hours, this was a good trade off.
    8) The power cable could really have done with being a bit longer, wouldn’t have cost pittance extra to do.
    9) Dont do it on a dry day as it will kick up dust everywhere and wear down the tips

The conclusion I’ve come to is this for next year is:-
Autumn (mid-late September), Cut the lawn on its shortest setting, get out the lawn treatment weed killer and treat the lawn. Two to three weeks later use this on the lowest setting. Go over it again with teh lawnmover to make sure you get up as much waste as possible. Follow up with grass seed and leave for winter.

Spring (early April), wait until the lawn is longer, do not cut with a lawnmower. Just use this as it will shread the grass as it goes. Lawnmower after use to collect any extra waste. Not using moss killer will mean that too much damage isn’t felt by the grass which I felt this year. Once done go over with the lawnmower on its lowest setting and we can crack on with spring in the garden without the worry of treading on the grass. Cut as normal when it gets longer.

Would I buy one again? Most probably as it is much easier.

If you need more info look under the old model number 060088A070, this is the updated model but most things work exactly the same.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersA really easy to use and very accurate in the hight settings, does not tear the lawn to bits. Very efficient in removing moss, I’m well impressed with the results. A bit different in price to my previous at 40, 8 years ago, hope this lasts as long.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI knew there was moss in the lawn, but until I used this scarifier I had no idea how much! Thank goodness for the large collecting box, which allows a good run at raking before it needs to be emptied. I can’t say the lawn looks better yet, as I was only scarified yesterday, and there are now several patches with very little green lefft on them, but when re-seeded after a second scarifying next week I think it will be a much better and healthier lawn that it was before.
The only thing that was not intuitive is that the height adjustment is slightly odd, so read the markings on the machine… higher is forward adjustment on one front wheel and backwards on the other!

Bought this to scarify by lawn after I realised how long it was going to take to do it by hand. Easy enough to assemble (which was fortunate because mine didn’t have instructions in it!).

So was up and running in around 15 minutes. Collected a lot of moss and thatch. Didnt get it all out so needed a bit of raking afterwards but that’s maybe because I didnt use the lowest setting to prevent scalping the lawn.

Made it all very easy though so pleased with my purchase. Saved me a lot of time.

Can see me using it to collect up leaves as well as for scarifying so looking forward to getting more use out of it.
