I’ve not really been one to use sound bars as I’ve always found the sound directly from the TV to be sufficient enough, but I’m always up for using items that further improve the sound to improve the user listening experience.
It doesn’t have any standout looks to it, just looks like a generic speaker with the Bose branding on.
However, it does feel high quality and has a good weight to it.
With the Bose Music App, you can control your sound bar from your phone and play from a wide range of
music services seamlessly.
It’s a great speaker – great sound quality and bass from this. Only point I’d probably say that brings this down is the price. At 499.99, I’m in two minds about whether this speaker is worth the price.
On one hand, it’s a Bose product and sounds amazing, but on the other hand, it’s quite costly and there are cheaper soundbars that come with subwoofers which can enhance the audio quality and give more of a cinematic feel.
Overall, I’m very pleased with the quality of the sound – I no longer need to rely on the TV speakers and there are no cables needed with the Bluetooth mode being an option.
We’ve had Bose before but this technology is a whole lot better!
I firstly got swayed by reviews of the Sonos Gen 2 Beam but took it back to the shop the day after. Pretty underwhelmed with the sound. Bought this cheaper Bose 500 after hearing it through someone else’s TV. It’s richer and clearer sounding and the app gives better adjustment. The speech enhancement also sounds better on the Bose than the Sonos.not that I think I will need it.
Sound is great. Remote and app are a bit fiddly until you get used to them.
This brand may not be the cheapest but I have always preferred experience-driven reliability and longevity.
I have it connected to my new Sony TV via the HDMI ARC cable. It works well most of the time, but ocassionally drops connection, so you get no sound from either the TV or the bar. The only fix is to power-cycle the bar at the socket and reconnect the HDMI cable.
I’ve also tried optical – sound works, but volume control via the TV doesn’t, rendering this option useless.
Sound is great – a huge improvement over the inbuilt speakers.
2 minutes to plug into my Sony Bravia
2 minutes to download the app and connect
2 minutes for soundbar to update firmware
2 minutes to play around with the settings
Awesome. Every aspect awesome. There is even base. Watched TopGun awesome. Then Transformers revenge of the fallen in Dolby – wow!
Very good in all respects although setup wasn’t seamless. Not really an issue but now everyone expects an Apple experience from their electronic goods.
This was bought to improve the sound of an additional TV. The sound has been transformed. There is quite a bit more bass, but it is not bloated or ‘over-blown’ like some systems. The quality of speech and music is excellent as are all of the effects. The set up was incredibly easy via the app and the tone controls are subtle but effective. It won’t be as expansive as a full AV set up, but that would be an unfair comparison. Highly recommended
The sandbar arrived earlier than planned from Amazon and was inside a protective cardboard box. This was in addition to the Bose box.
Its dead easy to set up. Yes the instruction book is limited. However, it is still easy. Top tip is to make sure the TV speakers are off in the main TV menu and ensure HDMI ARC is on if necessary. The Bose App is dead easy to use and I was set up and ready to go in about 20 mins.
Sound quality is good and better than TV. It will never be as good as the Ambeo. But nothing in soundbar world ever will be.
I like it for what it is.
One downside… you can only connect Bose subwoofers to the bar. Despite the 3.5mm sub jack on the back it will not allow a non-Bose subwoofer to connect. I only found this out after trying. Indeed a big push to get this bar was the subwoofer jack. This is not advertised as such by Bose or anywhere else. Be warned in case you wish to add your own standalone.
I think a subwoofer would help the overall sound. For me its not required and I will manage the time without the Ambeo and no subwoofer.
The 600 will work well for the small TV room for the kids.
Sound quality is better than the TV. Works better with films than your typical TV show, with a more simpler sound output.
The latest James Bond on Prime sounded great
The set up was a big of a faff, took a few turning it on and off. Changing settings on the TV etc. but done now.
I can understand why some reviews are not so good as out of the box the set up sound is way out of wack, however a little patience is all that is needed using the Bose app to get very emersive crisp and true to life sound. My number one tip is to use a 3.5 mm cable to wire the bass module direct as wireless seems to suffer from interference causing a strange booming noise whereas the hard wire cuts this out completely, also use hdmi and not optical if possible as the difference is amazing.
I have actually changed to this system from an Acoustimass 5.1 to save space and wires and to be honest I don’t miss it.
Box was badly damaged when delivered. See photos. Optical input doesn’t work but we use the HDMI connection anyway. Very disappointed for what we paid. However sound works via HDMI which is what we want and very pleased with the sound.
I’ve read a lot of comments about this, and I’d say most of them are absolute nonsense commenting about the price well you paid for it so you must want it. Brilliant speaker great sound quality and I will be purchasing the sub woofer too.
It doesn’t have Atmos which is a shame
I have it hooked up to the bass module 500 and surround speakers 500 that configuration gives me a 5.1.
The connection between the bass module is wirless as are the rear surround speakers so the only cables to worry about is power
Set up is easy with the Bose music app
In the box you get a special headset microphone you connect to the soundbar when setting up so the soundbar optimises the sound for your room
The 500 has the smaller remote it’s not back-lit but you can buy the bigger one on Amazon for 50
Hooked up to an LG OLED55B9 TV
Initially had problems getting Alexa to work, but, after a bit of continued fiddling with Alexa’s buttons I have now managed to push them in correct sequence. In Alexa App I also switched off going into standby mode. Alexa is now working wonderfully well — she even switches the television on and off ! Well chuffed now with Soundbar and would recommend.
Of you’ve got Amazon music you’ll benefit from the excellent music sound. Love it. Hated the set up. Instructions supplied are
Utterly useless.
Soundbar is lovely sound is so much improved from the TV speakers
