Our old wireless printer didn’t cope with the walks in our house. This one does. The print quality is good.
The only downside is that this model isn’t covered by the ink replacement service I get frequent emails about.

I bought this after I changed to a Mac laptop and my Epson printer just would not scan with it. After months of trying to solve this, I bought this Brother. Like the Epson, it would not connect via AirPrint or Bluetooth – must be my wifi – but works beautifully with a printer cable. Bit of a faff to set up online, but there are both paper (hurrah!) and online instructions, and it is all fairly intuitive. A little thing I really like is you don’t have to switch it on before printing. As you go to print on your computer, so it switches on. It is not especially noisy for me, although others have commented on this. It drops a star because printing on two sides is a little awkward; and it has jammed a couple of times – if it is in a tight space it’s awkward to pull it out and fix things from the back. On the whole I am very pleased With it.

Got this to replace a Brother printer the wife had for over 10 years, as a crafter it works overtime she loves it would be nice if this lasts as long as the other, quite economical on ink too.

I really like this printer, and think it’s great value for money. It’s set up over the Wi-Fi, and works smoothly across all the devices at home. I also installed the Brother app on my phone and found it useful for transferring documents from the scanner. The ink cartridges (is that the right word for this type of printer? Ink tanks?) are easy to remove and replace when they run out, and the pricing is very competitive.

I read a lot of reviews complaining that the printer is not very reliable, that the Wi-Fi setup didn’t work, or that it keeps disconnecting. In my own experience setting up the printer, there were no problems, but the setup process was long, and slow, which wasn’t the most encouraging introduction to Brother.

Once that was completed though, it has been smooth sailing, so overall, I’m very happy with this printer!

    Pro’s
    Easy to set up.
I can print things direct from my phone.
Connecting to my phone was easy.

Telling my family I bought it as I have now become our tribes printshop.

It has a nice small footprint, looks good and prints well, but oh boy installing the software was a royal pain. You have to go to the Brother website to do it and the download and setup were by no means straightforward. However I got there in the end and the print cartridges are lasting longer than I had expected, so I am satisfied.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersOverall I’ve found this to be a very good printer for the money. I previously had a Brother A3 MFC printer too for working from home which is very decent and economical on inks. I’ll list what I believe are the good and bad points as follows:

    Good Points
Easy to set up – can use a USB cable or wireless and both are straightforward without issue
Instructions that come with it are clear and concise (which can be an issue with some printers)
Control panel is clear and easy to use, simple to do maintenance for example
Easy to find how much ink you have left or pages left in the control panel which is a nice feature
Reasonably fast printing in both colour and black and white and quality is decent
Scanner is easy to use and gives decent quality
Inks easy to change and not as expensive as some, they also seem to last much longer than a HP printer
I like the look of the black printer, nice and neat but that is subjective of course

    Bad Points
The printer is very noisy when in use and rattles and sounds like its falling apart
Feels a bit cheap and some parts like paper tray are flimsy but nothing has broken just yet
Occasionally jams and a bit fiddly to get paper out the back

As other reviewers have said the set up was not intuitive and the instructions and app were just a bit over complicated but it was all done in 20 minutes and was more about perseverance than frustration.
The end is worth it. It is quiet enough to use in the background whilst on a video call (using low level noice suppression) fast, especially on black &white. Great print quality on Color photopaper and the paper feed is seamless (even when I was less careful loading the paper). This is worth the extra money compared to printers I’ve had previously at the 60-80 pound range.

    Prints well Double sided
BUT Air print is difficult to set up. Set up twice over network but dropped after power off. Has an unusual direct print network which seemed to fix the problem.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersWhat a great printer, this is the first wi-fi machine I have ever had and it was easy to set up with my iMac. Very nice result when I print out photo’s and text alike, fantastic highly recommended!

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersInstalled successfully on the second attempt.

Print quality is very good, however, at the moment I’m still unable to print directly from the Internet. If I want to print I I am asked to save the document first which is a real pain. I did have initial problems with set up but managed to resolve them myself.

Almost got scammed by a company that tried to get me to buy some Microsoft clean up software which was completely unnecessary. Breathe a sigh of relief when realised that I just needed to attempt to the installation again and it worked thankfully. Now it works nice little princess, but disappointed that I cannot print directly from the Internet which I suspect is a software problem and cannot resolve.

Used this printer for a month now, quiet, smaller foot print than my last printer and I don’t find that it uses any more ink than my old canon printer ( a hope on my part) Quick and prints double sided, easy to install and works from moble app, no need to turn PC on. At the moment it’s fine not sorry I bought it.

I bought this as I had a previous Brother model and hoped the ink cartridge would fit (they did not) .Fast printer and I am happy with the quality. My first photo print taken from a photo in a paper was not as good as I had hoped but a subsequent photo print was spot on.If it gives as good service as my previous Brother printer I will be well and truly satisfied.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is a very neat little printer, but beware when you try and set up, you will need a reasonably up to date operating system, before you can
download the drivers from the Brother printer App. The applies even if you choose to use the USB cable connection.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI had an MFC-J650DW for many years, due to relocating, I had to give that up and buy this new MFC-J1010DW that is almost exactly the same form, but in white instead of black; now comes with physical button instead of a touch panel; now without a from USB and Card reader; and slightly more expensive.
Otherwise, print, scan quality and usability are still superb and I expected the same durability as MFC-J650DW which I think I’ve used for over 8 years.

Did not like the amount of trouble that it was to set up. I have not been able to print double sided as yet because every time I try to set it up it jumps straight back to single sided printing so I am having to print one side and turn paper round to print the other side like I did with my other printer which is annoying. As the ink jet cartridges are so much dearer than my previous printer I am using the other printer provided it does not require blue ink, which is the reason for changing. the only good thing is that it is very good clear printing.

Golden Review Award: 20 From Our UsersThis is my first time owning a Brother printer and the DCP-J774DW is fantastic. Please watch the video for a closer look at the printer, hear how loud printer is, and other features of the product etc.

The printer was nicely packaged coming with a quick guide, security guide, power cable, a set of ink cartridges and the printer itself. The description says that it comes with a Software disc however I did not receive one. It’s not a big deal for me but it will be a big deal if you are using it in a place with no internet. Despite it having WIFI connection I’d still would have liked to have seen it come with the relevant USB cable to connect to the PC.

The printer was very easy to set up, installing the printer ink was a simple process as well. You’ll need to go to the Brother website to download the relevant driver for it to work with your PC.

The printer is an all in one product allowing you to print, scan and copy your documents. It produces fantastic results, producing clear, crisp and vibrant colour documents whether you are printing, copying or scanning. The 2-sided printing was easy to do, and it worked as expected. The printer has some great features in place such as the 100 sheet of paper capacity tray which is nicely tucked away to save space. There’s the capability of plugging in a USB or an SD card for quick printing. It has various compartments that you can open to get rid of any paper jams. The WIFI connectivity allows for mobile or PC wireless printing however you can set up a wired connection if you want.

The touch screen is nice and responsive, and you have physicals buttons as well if you need to use them. The menu has useful features such as displaying Ink cartridges model for replacements, and ink level to get a quick look at how the ink levels are running.

Its nice compacted design has a real elegant look to it without taking too much space.

Overall, this a great multifunctional printer. It’s easy to install and easy to navigate giving you all you need at your fingertips. It produces fantastic results whether you are printing, copy or scanning. It has everything you’d need and It a must have for your office or workspace. I would highly recommend.

Great printer from a reputable brand

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI prefer this to the Samsung Laser and Epson Photo printers I had before, it seems more robust and idiosyncrasy free. Not to say it doesn’t have odd bugs, like constantly asking to be ID’d on a network…forget it, Bro, you’re in our house and that’s your lot!
We still suffer under the yolk of overpriced proprietary inks and you can’t help but think the cartridges are judiciously under-filled but the printers are also probably under-priced and that’s the deal, isn’t it.
It would be interesting to know how much a printer should retail at with more sensible ongoing running costs factored in. A per pence measure per standard colour printed test sheet over a year of average home office usage, maybe? or am I overthinking it:-/

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI do like this Brother Printer. It does what it is supposed to do. The only issues I have with it are that it is a little bit noisy, it is a little bit slow, and it goes through toner like I go through green tea and honey. I don’t print very heavy volumes, but I’ve gone through 4 black cartridges in a year. Also, because it uses the tri-colour cartridges for colour printing, you will probably end up with extras of one of the colours which you use less, and unless you replace them ALL, it will not work. I only took off one star for this, because otherwise the printer works perfectly, but factor this in when you’re planning a purchase, and it will not sting as much in the long run.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersFirst impressions – the paper tray appears particularly flimsy but it should be remembered that this is a cheaper printer
setting up is ok but avoid the screen as much as possible it is counter intuitive and too small for old eyes to be useful
All these machines are designed by 18 year olds with perfect vision. Download the software onto your computer and follow the prompts
installation went well and internet printing worked first time – I was elated but as I feared having left the machine little used over Christmas it would not work via the internet after the break – I tried the usual fixes but no luck refused to re boot my router clearly like many other printers internet printing is FLAKY
I ended up hard wiring the printer to the computer via the hidden internal port and the printer has been perfect since
One day someone will make a printer that actually works reliably via the internet – this one doesn’t
Print quality is ok and overall not a bad printer for the money

Golden Review Award: 40 From Our UsersThe printer arrived within the time frame given and was securely packaged. The control panel can be viewed in the vertical plane or any one of three other positions which can be useful. The controls are easily visible and to operate with various operating modes visible on an illuminated digitised screen. As with most electronic items theses days there was no instruction manual or USB lead included which I find annoying but there an accompanying disc (which I have not used as yet). They were with my previous Brother Printer. There was no setting up required when plugged into my computer as had been the previous need, all that was required was to connect the printer to the computed with the USB lead and it was done. I am operating Windows 10 so how it might work out with another system I can’t say. I have not as yet tried all the printer functions and have not tried setting up the Wi-Fi as I have no need for the time being.
The printing is clear and crisp both text and images with good colour. It is a compact unit and sits easily on the top of a e.g. filing cabinet. It has a card slot to directly download images if required. It also has a very convenient feature of being able to print double sided which for the price I found none that could do this. The paper tray does not appear as robust as with my previous Brother Printer, this one being all plastic and feels a little flimsy, however, as with most things plastic and it not meant for industrial use does it really matter? For this reason and the lack of USB lead and a manual (which can be accessed from the Brother web site) I only gave 4 stars otherwise it would have been 5 stars. I am only a home user but before I made the purchase I did a reasonable amount of research and although there are cheaper models, for what this printer offers, with the customer service backup as first viewed on the Amazon website (which I have now tested and found most responsive) and from owning a previous Brother Printer for several years I would certainly recommend this M/C.

Gave 4 stars because I have not tried out all the functions yet. It has excellent print quality and scans quickly and easily and prints 2 sided quickly also. Have not yet tried Magnification or other functions.
I installed the initial setup myself but required help from a family member to link to the WiFi. Once this was done (about 2 hours because it kept going offline and we were working with Team Viewer) it has been a perfect replacement for my 9 year old CanonMP560 which was very well used as I worked as a volunteer for some local organisations.
I have had to get used to the noise it makes when it starts its print programme… a rather aggressive loud noise… but it really prints quicker than the Canon.
The cartridges will be more expensive to replace but may gradually reduce in cost once they become more popular All in all I am very pleased with the purchase and hope it wears as well as the Canon and I shall have no complaints. I was trying to be fair in giving 4 stars rather than 5 as I have not used all the functions.
