As other reviewers have said the set up was not intuitive and the instructions and app were just a bit over complicated but it was all done in 20 minutes and was more about perseverance than frustration.
The end is worth it. It is quiet enough to use in the background whilst on a video call (using low level noice suppression) fast, especially on black &white. Great print quality on Color photopaper and the paper feed is seamless (even when I was less careful loading the paper). This is worth the extra money compared to printers I’ve had previously at the 60-80 pound range.
Prints well Double sided
BUT Air print is difficult to set up. Set up twice over network but dropped after power off. Has an unusual direct print network which seemed to fix the problem.
What a great printer, this is the first wi-fi machine I have ever had and it was easy to set up with my iMac. Very nice result when I print out photo’s and text alike, fantastic highly recommended!
I use this at home and it does just what I need including double sided printing
Arrived on time, easy to set up & quiet, fast printing
Installed successfully on the second attempt.
Print quality is very good, however, at the moment I’m still unable to print directly from the Internet. If I want to print I I am asked to save the document first which is a real pain. I did have initial problems with set up but managed to resolve them myself.
Almost got scammed by a company that tried to get me to buy some Microsoft clean up software which was completely unnecessary. Breathe a sigh of relief when realised that I just needed to attempt to the installation again and it worked thankfully. Now it works nice little princess, but disappointed that I cannot print directly from the Internet which I suspect is a software problem and cannot resolve.
A month of use and no issues, bought to replace a Canon Pixma that was never great, noisy, paper jams, losing connection to WiFi. This one was easy to set up, is whisper quiet and excellent quality prints .
It doesn’t have a sheet feeder but it’s a great printer. Not one jam yet. Shortcuts are easy to program. Printing from my phone is easy. It’s a lot smaller than my previous Brother.
My DC195C gave up the ghost after 9 years of excellent service. After getting used to the wifi aspect and a few updates it seems a good replacement.
The print quality is great and you can print from multiple devices. I particularly like being able to print from anywhere and it’s sitting on your printer when you get home. Printing 2 sided is all good. Copying is great. The downside for me is the scanning connectivity. I have 2 laptops connected to this printer but the scanning has ended up being to Google drive. It saw a laptop drive initially via WiFi but then stopped working and I couldn’t fix it.
Used this printer for a month now, quiet, smaller foot print than my last printer and I don’t find that it uses any more ink than my old canon printer ( a hope on my part) Quick and prints double sided, easy to install and works from moble app, no need to turn PC on. At the moment it’s fine not sorry I bought it.
After many years of buying “cheap” printers that cost me a fortune in ink cartridges I decided to upgrade to a more professional machine. A friend recommended this as they had one and they were delighted with it. Took the plunge and I have to agree with them. Easy to set up (once I read the instructions in full lol), easy to use and the print quality is first class. Ink isn’t the cheapest BUT they do say how many copies you get out of them. I don’t print loads but this one is a winner for me.
I bought this as I had a previous Brother model and hoped the ink cartridge would fit (they did not) .Fast printer and I am happy with the quality. My first photo print taken from a photo in a paper was not as good as I had hoped but a subsequent photo print was spot on.If it gives as good service as my previous Brother printer I will be well and truly satisfied.
This is a very neat little printer, but beware when you try and set up, you will need a reasonably up to date operating system, before you can
download the drivers from the Brother printer App. The applies even if you choose to use the USB cable connection.
I had an MFC-J650DW for many years, due to relocating, I had to give that up and buy this new MFC-J1010DW that is almost exactly the same form, but in white instead of black; now comes with physical button instead of a touch panel; now without a from USB and Card reader; and slightly more expensive.
Otherwise, print, scan quality and usability are still superb and I expected the same durability as MFC-J650DW which I think I’ve used for over 8 years.
This was to replace an older version of the same printer. When my original one ceased working after over 10 years use I decided to purchase a cheaper printer as I don’t use it as much now. Big mistake I purchased an HP printer which was difficult to install and when I contacted the help line they were more interested in me signing up for replacement cartridges than resolving the problem.
After wasting a whole Saturday trying to install it I decided to purchase another Brother printer scanner.
I had it installed, working and registered in half an hour. The HP printer I’ve sold!
Print quality is excellent. But it’s quite a noisy printer, mostly sounding like it’ll fall apart especially when taking the paper. To install the ink cartridges was super easy once I located the ink house which is located in front of the printer. (I’m used to it being at the back). In other brands
Bought this printer just for home use to replace another printer that I have been using that was very poor quality so paid that little extra for this one and to be honest its brilliant no complaints so far
it was easy to set up easy to use print quality is excellent no WI FI issues paper feed no problem and quiet very happy.
This is my first time owning a Brother printer and the DCP-J774DW is fantastic. Please watch the video for a closer look at the printer, hear how loud printer is, and other features of the product etc.
The printer was nicely packaged coming with a quick guide, security guide, power cable, a set of ink cartridges and the printer itself. The description says that it comes with a Software disc however I did not receive one. It’s not a big deal for me but it will be a big deal if you are using it in a place with no internet. Despite it having WIFI connection I’d still would have liked to have seen it come with the relevant USB cable to connect to the PC.
The printer was very easy to set up, installing the printer ink was a simple process as well. You’ll need to go to the Brother website to download the relevant driver for it to work with your PC.
The printer is an all in one product allowing you to print, scan and copy your documents. It produces fantastic results, producing clear, crisp and vibrant colour documents whether you are printing, copying or scanning. The 2-sided printing was easy to do, and it worked as expected. The printer has some great features in place such as the 100 sheet of paper capacity tray which is nicely tucked away to save space. There’s the capability of plugging in a USB or an SD card for quick printing. It has various compartments that you can open to get rid of any paper jams. The WIFI connectivity allows for mobile or PC wireless printing however you can set up a wired connection if you want.
The touch screen is nice and responsive, and you have physicals buttons as well if you need to use them. The menu has useful features such as displaying Ink cartridges model for replacements, and ink level to get a quick look at how the ink levels are running.
Its nice compacted design has a real elegant look to it without taking too much space.
Overall, this a great multifunctional printer. It’s easy to install and easy to navigate giving you all you need at your fingertips. It produces fantastic results whether you are printing, copy or scanning. It has everything you’d need and It a must have for your office or workspace. I would highly recommend.
Good machine. But my yellow print cartridge was empty so I could not commission it. I chatted with Christian who told me to switch the power on and off. NO that was not going to work so had to spend another 50 to get a proper yellow cartridge which solved the problem.
Amazon only do a minimim quantity of two sets. One cartridge only did 36 double sided sheets.
Good customers should get a better reactio
First impressions – the paper tray appears particularly flimsy but it should be remembered that this is a cheaper printer
setting up is ok but avoid the screen as much as possible it is counter intuitive and too small for old eyes to be useful
All these machines are designed by 18 year olds with perfect vision. Download the software onto your computer and follow the prompts
installation went well and internet printing worked first time – I was elated but as I feared having left the machine little used over Christmas it would not work via the internet after the break – I tried the usual fixes but no luck refused to re boot my router clearly like many other printers internet printing is FLAKY
I ended up hard wiring the printer to the computer via the hidden internal port and the printer has been perfect since
One day someone will make a printer that actually works reliably via the internet – this one doesn’t
Print quality is ok and overall not a bad printer for the money
It is fiendishly difficult to set up. Trying to put the date and time in was an absolute nightmare and without it, I discovered, one cannot proceed. I have osteoarthritis in my hands and this was dreamt up by a 16 year old for other surfers of the same age. Now it is finally set up, I did it, it prints well. I preferred the old Brothers though the lit up screen is much more visible than the old line. Trouble is that it presumes it is exactly on one’s eyeline.
I had a HP Deskjet 3077A I think it was called, worst most useless thing I’ve bought. From ink cartridges constantly going dry and not printing correctly to awful connectivity and just getting it to print 1 page.
This Brother printer on the other hand works flawlessly. It wasn’t too bad you set up as comes with a big fold out quick start page, and once you work out how to put the paper inside into the loading tray and the cartridges in, it works brilliant. The cartridges seem sealed as they feed into tubes rather than ink coming directly out of them so don’t seem like they’ll dry up with infrequent use. The print quality is nice and it’s done quickly. Also the connectivity to print from my phone works nice and easily, there’s also a host of other features. Worth every penny.
Adore brother printers had a dcp model for over 8 years she finally gave up was expected with a over welming dutie of over 70k prints most at high res settings this replacement is outstanding first wifi printer iv had connected to all my devices with no problems the scan and print apps are amazing print straight from my phone brilliant from anywhere the big thing I love is the individual ink tanks why I buy brother the ink is a good price range not the cheapest but not expensive I’m on my second set of inks at a cost of 20 for a set of 4 high yeld ones quality is outstanding even on ink save settings great for day to day prints and the photo quality is amazing on fine print yes it will eat away at ink on this setting but that is expected you can buy non brand inks on Amazon for about 15 I’ll try them down the road in all it’s on fab printer hope it lasts me the 8 year run of my last one
The printer arrived within the time frame given and was securely packaged. The control panel can be viewed in the vertical plane or any one of three other positions which can be useful. The controls are easily visible and to operate with various operating modes visible on an illuminated digitised screen. As with most electronic items theses days there was no instruction manual or USB lead included which I find annoying but there an accompanying disc (which I have not used as yet). They were with my previous Brother Printer. There was no setting up required when plugged into my computer as had been the previous need, all that was required was to connect the printer to the computed with the USB lead and it was done. I am operating Windows 10 so how it might work out with another system I can’t say. I have not as yet tried all the printer functions and have not tried setting up the Wi-Fi as I have no need for the time being.
The printing is clear and crisp both text and images with good colour. It is a compact unit and sits easily on the top of a e.g. filing cabinet. It has a card slot to directly download images if required. It also has a very convenient feature of being able to print double sided which for the price I found none that could do this. The paper tray does not appear as robust as with my previous Brother Printer, this one being all plastic and feels a little flimsy, however, as with most things plastic and it not meant for industrial use does it really matter? For this reason and the lack of USB lead and a manual (which can be accessed from the Brother web site) I only gave 4 stars otherwise it would have been 5 stars. I am only a home user but before I made the purchase I did a reasonable amount of research and although there are cheaper models, for what this printer offers, with the customer service backup as first viewed on the Amazon website (which I have now tested and found most responsive) and from owning a previous Brother Printer for several years I would certainly recommend this M/C.
I like the look of it The scanned documents i have printed seem fine. The instructions panel is clear.
However, I wanted to use this with a usb connection and no cable was supplied. I have just had a serious house fire and have no spare cables to hand. Therefore I cannot immediately print out the documentation I need…. Not very helpful!
No wifi where I am staying…..
Please show on the sales page that there is no usb cable of the correct type supplied! I have, of course ordered an appropriate cable but it should not be necessary.
Gave 4 stars because I have not tried out all the functions yet. It has excellent print quality and scans quickly and easily and prints 2 sided quickly also. Have not yet tried Magnification or other functions.
I installed the initial setup myself but required help from a family member to link to the WiFi. Once this was done (about 2 hours because it kept going offline and we were working with Team Viewer) it has been a perfect replacement for my 9 year old CanonMP560 which was very well used as I worked as a volunteer for some local organisations.
I have had to get used to the noise it makes when it starts its print programme… a rather aggressive loud noise… but it really prints quicker than the Canon.
The cartridges will be more expensive to replace but may gradually reduce in cost once they become more popular All in all I am very pleased with the purchase and hope it wears as well as the Canon and I shall have no complaints. I was trying to be fair in giving 4 stars rather than 5 as I have not used all the functions.
The printer itself works very nicely easy to set up and connect to wireless – no need to use a cable to connect any more! 2 sided printing works beautifully. For home use this is a nice printer/ scanner. My only niggle is the software which I had to download from the brother site to get the latest version – don’t misunderstand, it’s easy to find the page but it would be nice to have a package that was complete in itself, i.e. ‘Software for Mac version ……’ and one click would download and install the relevant software to cover printing, copying and scanning all in one easy install, run and understand package. Other than this faff – the printer and scanner work well.
Having bought a couple of ‘cheap’ printers (under 50) which very quickly went wrong I knew I needed to invest a bit more. I use a small brother all in one at work, which was easy to set up and use and having compared a few makes and models, that’s what swung it for me. This one was a piece of cake to set of on my wireless network, install on both my laptops (work and personal) and it comes ready to go with iOs ‘air’ printing so hubby’s iPad now also works with it – he chuffed! No more having to ask me to print something for him 🙂 It’s too early to tell if I suffer the same fate with this one as my others, but I have been reassured by the simplicity of operation and online support function. Front loading paper tray makes it so much easier too, no fiddly stacks to put in and take out each time. Automatic double-sided printing is a boon. So far, I’m loving i
