I upgraded from an older Brother label printer. I do like that it is dual colour (Black & Red). Easy to use.
I just wish the instructions were simplier and goes through it step by step.

It’s basic but it works on my old 2011 Mac mini.

    Prints fast.

Software pretty clunky but does the trick.

There should be at least a couple of different add-ons that allow you to use this with WordPress/Woocommerce for printing shipping labels.

Search Google because the one I use is not in the WordPress search.

Obviously this is smaller than the sandard 6″ X 4″ that a shipping label generally is. But with some creativity, in Linux(or powershell in Windows) you can automate the cutting and rotating of the original, so that you can glue 3 of these labels one under the other, thus forming a perfectly normal shipping label. Or you could do it manually, but that’s too tedious.
Works in Linux by just installing the brother drivers.
COMES WITH SAMPLE SELF ADHESIVE ROLLS, both full width(62mm) and 29mm wide. So you don’t have to buy those separately.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersBought this as an as new Amazon Warehouse Events deal item and was very pleased with the overall quality. It is important to choose the appropriate model you require, some have restricted label widths, only connect via usb etc but the basic QL-600R version suited my needs perfectly. Labels both Brother and generic are readily available and given it is a thermal printer there are no ink cartridges to purchase. I was somewhat surprised that on opening the (damaged Amazon Warehouse) box the instructions had a prominent coffee mug stain evident. This was soon explained when I tried to download the software and drivers from the Brother website, it was a case of if at first you don’t succeed try try and try again! Even the successful download took ages. The P touch Editor software is pretty expansive with loads of options, formats, texts, fonts, clipart etc but is a bit clunky and is not always intuitive, keep in mind it is for all model versions and may not let you perform some model specific functions. Now it is up and running the label quality including adhesion is excellent, I have my relevant label templates saved and the somewhat tedious set up now forgotten, hence 5 stars… nice bit of kit!

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI bought this label printer because my Dymo 450 broke and this one was on offer at a really good price. I did not know the capabilities of it prior to purchase, but soon discovered it could do so much more than my old Dymo. It does all the standard sizes of labels you would expect, but also does circular labels and custom length labels. The software is also much easier to use than the Dymo software.
I highly recommend this label printer.

software took an hour or two to install, once done perfect, easy to use, easy to edit labels, saving them, altering them etc. very fast at printing multiple labels, and no inkjet refills to buy.

Works perfectly for what I need it to do, prints clearly and is excellent value for money vs other similar products. Took me a while to get going, and wasted a lot of the ‘paper’, but once set up it is very simple. I just wish it was wireless.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersPrinting the occasional label on my laser printer requires a fresh sheet of labels for each print as using partially used sheets of labels messes up the transfer roller. So a label printer is the obvious answer. The QL-800 I purchased has been fairly good. I say fairly good as although the printer itself seems well made and easy to set up, the software provided leaves a lot to be desired. The P-Touch editor software can produce satisfactory address labels, but add a graphic (e.g. even a simple border rectangle) and the result is very clunky, e.g. different line widths on vertical and horizontal lines. Printing from third party applications gives better results, although it is a fiddle setting up an appropriate paper size. However I have failed to print two-colour labels on the red/black continuous reels from any third party application such as Word as the “Paper Type” setting in the Printer Properties is greyed out and cannot be changed from “Monochrome”. Brother support does not give any help or advice. I was sure that I had seen a claim on the Brother websites that printing from 3rd Party applications was possible – but I can’t see that now.

This was too difficult for a non techy person such as me to set up so I asked a friend to help. He soon got to grips with it and has created the perfect labels for us with it. The print is lovely and clear. I’m very pleased with this printer.

Updated as my old Brother QL500 is no longer supported by Brother for Mac OS11. Straightforward to set up benefits from the ability to print in Red & Black. The print is fast & this model works wirelessly which is useful as new Macs have fewer USB sockets.

I brought this as I was getting fed up with only being able to print one address at a time from my computer, also have to take the paper out and putting in envelopes. I am not sure if it is me, but you have the right size roll of labels to the label size you have selected

It is amazing. We started a small business recently and we bought this fabulous printer for our post labels. It is easy to work with and different layout which it uses post are really useful. It is small and it doesn’t need too much space. Thanks from brother for their good quality which never changes.

I don’t hate this one. Inkjet consumer printers spend ten minutes turning on whirring and chunking and then spitting out half the ink by cleaning the heads. I realised that I rarely actually need to print any documents, it’s usually a return or postage label, occasionally you need a paper ticket. This can do that, quickly, quietly, cheaply and without fuss. It won’t throw a hissy fit about non genuine ink and it doesn’t need ink or toner at all!

Stop buying inkjets and just get this. You can do decent scans with a mobile app and sign stuff using Adobe acrobat.

Reviews had said that getting the wireless connection was problematic so I set it up on the kitchen table and it worked first time. It was idiot proof. I then moved it to its proper location and it never printed wirelessly again – despite hours of fiddling . It’s a good enough printer but to describe it as wireless is playing a little fast and loose with the term.

Bought this so i could Use it to print of stickers for my product. I love It! It’s really easy & simple to use and it prints off stickers so quickly!
It prints off in black & red, but for that you need buy different paper. It comes with the address labels (black ink) and another bigger roll for printing in black & red.

I would be careful when printing off small/ bold font though, as it tends to come out a bit blurry.
But other wise it’s amazing, love it!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersWorth every penny, as I never again have to faff about with A4 Avery labels in the inkjet printer. The printer comes with two starter rolls to get you going. The software it comes with is great, as it is divided into ‘basic’ and ‘advanced’ tabs. So you can rattle off a basic address label super quick, or drop into ‘advanced’ mode, and create everything from a drawer label with graphics, to a 1 metre long banner with huge text. Print quality is good. Print speed is fast, and the V shaped cutter is ultra reliable. Highly recommended.

Then I looked at the video’s on YouTube and now I have one.

Excellent piece of kit. I needed a printer which made it simple to print individual labels which were clear and easily readable. I previously used sheets of labels with a standard inkjet printer. This was fine when I needed numerous labels printed but was wasteful if I didn’t use the entire sheet. It is not a good idea to put a label sheet through a printer more than once as the adhesive can catch on the printer internals and jam the printer. This printer does what I need and more – I am still discovering what it can do! Good value, easy to use and very versatile.

Extremely great piece of kit that does exactly what we wanted and is easily adjustable to switch up labels as needed. Very speedy print and perfect cut each time.

Only thing that holds it back from 5* is the software is quite buggy in that in a perfectly capable laptop that runs a variety of rather demanding pieces of software very fluidly, for some reason, the Brother software is incredibly slow – changing a single character in a pre-existing label can take 5 seconds, easily, to do. Very frustrating!

This is a great label printer that does everything I need (I did NOT need the wireless connectivity offered by other models in the range). Being able to print in red as well as black is a nice touch and I use it often but, and this is where it drops a star, the black can have a red fringe to it when using the bi-colour paper. In the main: very pleased with it

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersGot mine and it comes (as described) with sample cassettes 1 address label & 1 Continuous black/ Red roll, although samples they still provide a good amount of labels. the straight from the box set up is easy as can be, simple plug n play, opens up the editor lite which gives you the basic application to print labels, or you can download the Full program which gives you full features and templates. (this is free). the bonus with this model is that it can print both Black & Red on white, so can create duel color labels. this is brilliant, and for the price its a no brainer. The print speed is super fast, the auto cut is so handy and great whether you are using the pre cut labels or the continuous roll. The range of labels available are quite good.

At first it requires a bit of playing around, but generally it’s easy to use and the Wi-Fi printing was straight forward. I like the option of cutting after each label or at the end of the printing job or not at all, plus manual cutting with a press of the button. Each option can be useful in a different situation.
I like that it supports continuous printing, so long labels can be created with the right tape, or one can use manufacturer set label sizes.
Perfect for Amazon and a bit better than Dymo in many ways.

Initially bought this to print bar coide labels but found out this printer will do much, much more. ad hoc addresses, badges, gudance labels for goods we sell. The process is quick and easy although I needed to take some time to figure out the software. Printed items arrive very quickly and are pre cut . All in all this printer does more than I expected and at a very high quality.
Down side: the only issue I have is that the printer switches off after a period and has to be manually restarted if you want to print anything. This minor issue is however easily negated by the positive bits.
Would I buy again? Most certainly.

Superb little bit of kit, I hate handwriting 30 or 40 labels a day and this little beauty now does it all for me.
I cut & paste the address details and hit ‘print’ and out it comes.
It was a nightmare getting my laptop (windows 10) to accept it so had to download and extract the files from online, then download ‘winzip’ to be able to use the files but once I cracked that part; it was a doddle.
I did chat with an online advisor but advised him I had to go and answer the door, when I came back he had disconnected the chat so was a bit miffed at that but all’s well that ends well.
    ***** stars from me.

Well I was well impressed with the look of the product and the price at the time of purchase was reasonable. Alas when it came to downloading the driver for the printer I was shocked to find that because I had an extra security system on my PC it would cost an additional 69.99 to install the driver. I was told that if I did not have one of the security systems removed then the printer could not be installed. Any further interested party’s should think hard before buying this product.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThe printer is non short of brilliant for my purposes.
The print is at maximal 62mms in width and from as people as 10I’m in length. But there is no limitation to the Mac length. This means you can print the standard package labels one needs for shipping, like the ones GLS is using. And if the qr codes are too muddy one can use the utilitarian software that comes with this printer to do a screen grab and print an enlarged we code. This is really good . I bought the suggested package of skates primrose and the thing just keeps going. Love it !
The print is sharp and functional, the sticky tape a breeze to use. I would have liked this to be a full 100mm as supposed to 62mm.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI purchased this printer very weary about its compatibility with Win10 based on others reviews. I am running Win 10 1809 release, I downloaded the latest drivers from the Brother website, followed the instructions (to the letter, i.e. do not connect to USB before it tells you to and disable Editor Lite on the printer by holding down the button before connecting it to the USB) provided by the software, installed and working in 5 mins.

When printing small QR codes like the one in my video I noticed that sometimes they took a while to scan, this was because the print was slightly blurry, by ticking the option “Priority to print quality” fixed this and now they print clean and scan as normal.

Genuinely impressed with the size, speed and quality of the printer, would recommend!

Golden Review Award: 15 From Our UsersIf you’re wondering whether to buy a thermal printer or not, then I can highly recommend one of these for your label needs. They are fantastic and I’ve been really pleased with my Brother purchases. Drop in a roll of labels (various sizes available) and it prints quickly and, most importantly, without any ink/toner needed. That’s the thermal magic. All you need to do is buy replacement rolls when one runs out and you can get compatible versions that are a fraction of the cost of the Brother originals if you’d prefer them. I do also have a laser printer, but the speed and ease of use is no match for a thermal printer.

I first had a QL500 and was amazed at what these little machines could do. I create labels as part of my small business use and this is what I started with. When the blade snapped on my first machine (that was me, pulling at what I shouldn’t have), I knew I wanted a replacement as thermal printing had been amazing!

My QL500 still prints fine and I was all set to just replace the blade, but I found this new QL800 available as a warehouse deal and decided to go for the upgrade. It’s essentially very similar and does the same job, but I love that it cuts the labels automatically when a print run finishes as I print quite a lot of labels and was having to do this manually with the earlier version. There is a QL700 that came in between the two which also does the same, but the QL800 also offers black and red printing, which I thought would be something that would come in useful for my designs.

It would be 5 stars from me, but for two things. Firstly, this option now has ‘standard’ and ‘high resolution’ printing, whereas my original machine just printed as is on one setting. I like the idea of this, but on standard mode, it’s like draft quality on a regular printer or maybe not even that. You wouldn’t use it for much so I’m not sure really sure why its needed. However, in making this great high resolution option print clearly, it slows the print speed down enormously and makes it slower than my first simple machine. It’s a little frustrating to have been printing clearly previously on a basic version of this machine, at a much faster rate, and now to be printing more slowly after upgrading.

Secondly, having been tempted by the black and red label possibilities, I was disappointed to find that Brother currently only offers one label roll that will do this and its expensive! More than I’d pay for a single roll when a laser printer could use a whole range of colours for a fraction of the price. I should have looked this up more carefully I suppose before purchasing as it’s not what I expected. I’m counting on future proofing by having this one though and expect that more black and red label styles will follow … hopefully with the compatible labels on offer also … fingers crossed!

They are minor gripes but perhaps something Brother should look at with the next version to try to iron out the small issues. I’m still tremendously happy with the machine as a whole and would recommend them to anyone needing labels printing!

I read some reviews that suggested some teething problems on set up. Fortunately, I didn’t have this and set up took about 30 seconds. Great little machine and so glad I chose this model. Simple to slot the rolls in (compatible ones are much cheaper, though the machine comes with a couple of rolls). Like the automatic cutting. Just wish there was a tray to catch the labels as they come out, so I could do a few different ones and they would stay in order, rather than fly onto the floor. Also, if the battery to go with this was cheaper, I would definitely get it for ‘on the go’ but it’s higher than the machine price, so not going to get that!

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersRun a small business from home and needed a printer for address & product ID labels. Ideally it needed to be shared among a number of PC’s without too much fuss but even though I couldn’t find any mention of this in any of my pre purchase research I decided on the price it would be worth it even if tied to 1 PC by USB (note that this printer is USB only there is no network port so my solution will only work if you have the infrastructure which I will explain below).

Connected directly to my server running Win Server 2012 R2, turned off the creator option on the printer (see manual) and installed the driver on the server. Used print management to add it to the list of shared printers using the local port on the server (print server role was already set up for other printers on my network), and deployed to the PC’s on the network. Installed the P-Touch editor software (download from Brother site note you’ll need the printer serial number to download) on each PC and they all connect perfectly to the printer via the print server. All options are available as if it was directly connected.

Great bit of kit, print quality is great but if you are printing a logo convert it to monochrome first to get best print quality. I also purchased generic 62mm label rolls from Amazon (5 rolls for the price of 1 original!) and there is no difference

I was very wary of buying a printer that boasted 50,000 labels printed so I did research on 10 other printers before buying this one. I then spoke to a few clients who are in the print industry and asked what they used and many of them said Brother. Overall, I have been hugely impressed with the printer and it would have been given a 5-star rating if not for two serious flaws with the product. If they do the two updates then I will edit and change to a 5-star rating.

Flaw 1: The software is ancient – If you liked Lotus Smartsuite then you’ll love this software, it needs to be upgraded and made easier to use for us younger people. It’s clunky, out of date and does not work for this era as well as it could.

Flaw 2: The power cable is approx. 0.5m, 22″ in length. Every other cable manufactured is approx. 1.2metre so that it can reach a wall socket or extension cable. This means that the printer has to be literally right next to the socket.

It’s ridiculous….. I cannot believe in this day and age that they didn’t think of this. Other than that this stock is not, in fact, new and has been sitting in a warehouse for 10 years waiting to be used.

If a VERY short cable and out of date software is not an issue for you, this is a brilliant printer.

Package arrived to an amazon drop off locker with ease. The printer is an easy set up though if you’re not totally tech savvy I could envisage some issues. There is also a phone app that works really well allowing you to print labels straight from your phone. I would recommend the white and black labels rather than white on black/red if you’re wanting to just print black labels as the latter seems to have a brown tinge unless it’s just a red label (and in that case the red is amazing for thermal). Upkeep on the hardware is minimal. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone that has labels to print. Labels can be pricey but found great bargains here on amazon for original labels.
Update: early 2019, we did have an issue with one of the round labels that brother sells. I cannot fault brother after sales service at all, they have been in constant contact and have also ordered stock of the same label to try and replicate the issue themselves. They have resolved the issue for us and I can honestly say that if your looking for a great little printer offering professional results with amazing product support I cannot recommend this product and brother enough.

Golden Review Award: 106 From Our UsersI first purchased this printer 2 years ago to print self adhesive address labels. As some other reviews have indicated, the set up can be tricky as I found initially. A quick internet search soon pointed me to a video clip on youtube which showed me how to update the firmware on the supplied printer to enable it to communicate with my Windows 10 LapTop. From then on the printer worked with zero issues, being incredibly easy to use and reliable 100%. I use it in the simple mode, utilising its excellent built in “PtLite10.exe” program, so as not to need any software on the lap top to operate it.

Since then, two years ago, this little printer has printed out over 50,000 self adhesive address labels, and it amazes me how its self cutter blades have still not yet gone blunt!

Because I can not believe that this little printer can go on much longer, I just took delivery of a second one as a spare. It too required a firmware update to work with Windows 10, as previously. It will now be kept as a spare should the first one decide that it needs to retire!

Just on running costs for information: Labels and consumables:

With this being a thermal printer, it saves a fortune not needing any ink, so ignoring its tiny power consumption, the only running costs are the labels that are used. I have only every used the “compatible type” labels for my needs, and they have proved superb and at a fraction of the cost you might pay for original Brother ones.

Final important consideration on choice of address labels:
If you aim to put this printer through its paces printing lots of labels, it is tempting to use the “continuous” labels (one continuous length of label cut off as required) , as the cutter chops off the label at the end of the longest line of text (seemingly more economical as less paper used), unlike using fixed length individual labels which are always cut at the end of (in between) each label.

I moved over to fixed length individual labels for this key reason:
The cutter blade on fixed length labels only has to go through the thin backing sheet.
On continuous length labels, when the text ends, the cutter has to chop through all of the backing paper, a film of adhesive, and the label paper itself. That combination with the continuous labels would I expect, soon cause the cutting blades of this printer to get clogged up or blades made dull if using in volume.

In Conclusion, aside from the Firmware updates I needed with both purchases, this printer gets maximum points from me for pure durability and ease of operation.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI absolutely adore this printer, but took off one star because it took ages for me to figure out how to use it – not as intuitive or user-friendly as I thought it’d be (or it could be because we’re not that tech-savvy?).

After hours of trying and the printer not printing, we finally figured it’s because of the printer setting. It’s important to set the printer to ‘2-color mode’, which u can access by clicking ‘Paper’. After we sorted that out, the printing went marvellously and it did everything fast, and smoothly.

I’m not using the Editor Lite. I downloaded the full software and can customise my labels using my own fonts. It adds a professional touch to all my labels, and I love it.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI bought this to print off barcode labels. The unit is great and easy to operate-once you get the hang of the software. The UI reminded me of Lotus Notes from the early 2000s. It took me the best part of the afternoon to figure it out, then it was easy. So it’s 5 stats for the unit, but 3 for the software. Brother should really update the software to make it more user friendly.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersThis arrived securely packaged and in perfect condition. It connects via a USB cable and looks to be well made and a solid construction. It does not occupy much of my desk space!. There is software to install that adds facilities to Microsoft Word and Excel so that a table in either application can be printred as labels. I have not yet tried that yet (hence four stars), but the procedure looks reasonably straightforward. One has to select the fields from the table that are to be printed and then print. I have used the single label quick print and that works well. One just types the data to be printed, selects print and a label is produced immediately. The printing speed is very fast. I think the quoted speed is faster than one label per second and I can quite believe that. It is supplied with two rolls of paper, one is continuous and the other individual labels. There are a wide range of other label sizes available and it is easy to change rolls. I think this is a much better alternative to producing single labels than trying to print one label from a sheet using a standard laser printer (after a single sheet has been passed through a laser printer several times the unused labels look very grey and hence are likley to be discarded). However, when doing a large number of different labels (e.g. addresses for Christmas cards) then printing them on sheets using something like mail merge in Word is very effective and probably faster. For example, most laser printers can print a single sheet of 21 labels in less than 20 seconds particularly if several sheets are to be printed. However, for single labels for the occasional address or whatever, the QL700 is ideal and the ability to change label size easily without wasting labels is great.
