I’ve had Panasonic for quite some years which needed to changed, so went for BT units. Not certain the signal is as good, however the blocking feature is very useful.
The product is as only as good as the person using it so cant comment on some of the features as the phones were bought for elderly relatives who are adverse to new “technology” they hadn’t changed the phone in years. It provides the basic functions of a phone which is what they need and an answering phone
These are without doubt, the best home telephones we have ever had. Big phonebook with multiple entry options per name. Instant telephone number block button. Sleek, piano gloss black finish. On digital voice exchanges two calls can be made at the same time . Not something in particular demand in out house , but in a family household , it could be a useful feature.
A set of three to replace our old set of two Panasonic.
Also has an answering machine at the main base, which is very easy to use and messages can be saved, as well as deleted.
It has built-in call blocking, which can be a bit annoying at times. This can be disabled but it is not an easy straightforward process to do so.
I could do it if I had the time and patience.
It is quite easy and quick to store numbers in the phone book which is very useful.
Overall, a good set of phones but need time to get fdamiliarised with all the features, which are extensive.
I work in a chip shop, so I needed a phone that’s loud when ringing and the speakers are clear when speaking. However, I dislike that if you block a number that person can still call you, it does say “blocked” when they try and call again. Which is extremely annoying especially when they call 5/6 times a day. If anyone could answer this question it would be amazing! Those who i block i dont want them to be able to connect and reach me. Is there a way round it? I didn’t know that in order to get customers number to show you’ll need to call your phone provider- which is great to see it’s stated in the manual book.
Good phone but the call blocking takes a little getting used to and doesn’t appear to have an intercom facility. With call blocking on you can’t have other phones on the system as well.
Wow super useful, I am a restaurant owner and I was super frustrated with scam calls. I feel so lucky to find this beutiful phone.
Now I have blocked all internazionali calls and landline numbers.
So No more Scam calls or time wasters !!
We bought this phone system due to my elderly parents being hampered with nuisance cold calls every day , week in and week out, every month etc. It’s very easy to install and set up and the three phones ‘talk’ to each other and are interlinked. Because it’s BT it automatically uses their Whitepages Caller ID so many cold callers simply get blocked before they’ve even got through to you. It also uses caller screening so if someone’s not on your phone list it makes them say who it is before it rings you leaving you to choose whether to answer it or not. It’s great, we haven’t had any cold calls for well over a couple of years now. Would highly recoommend.
I got this mainly because I couldn’t hear people on the phone too well with my previous phone. Setting this phone up takes abit of time S there are so many options. But the call blocking features are vast and impressive. You can customise the screensaver, background screen and name display. You can even block numbers based on area code which is handy, for example if you want to block number from 0845 you can set that up. It’s good with all these nuisance calls I get these days
Before buying this BT phone we used to get at least one scam call a day and sometimes two or three. Since we got this phone (around six months ago) we have had not a single scam call! It works very well indeed. Looking through the other reviews there is one where the user complains of not being able to edit contacts that have been synched from a mobile. This is true you can’t edit those contacts, however, you CAN edit your synched contacts by doing the following. After pairing the mobile with the BT phone and then downloading the contacts onto the BT phone you then copy the downloaded address book into a new address book. Then delete the original downloaded address book from the BT phone. You will now have an address book that has contacts that can be edited. See page 30/31 in the BT phone’s user guide.
The unit is very compact but easy to operate. There is a host of features on the phones and very easy to set up. The only negative I have is that the ringer has a limited volume control, it could have had more scope. All in all a very good product.
I purchased this phone because my old one was years old and I could not block numbers and I was fed up with people trying to scam me on a daily basis. I am with Virgin Media and it does work as it should do so that is great. The set up was simple as long as you charge the phones and do not connect them to your phone line till the required charging time has past. When you plug the phones in the set up wizard walks you through the process and it is relatively simple to get your numbers into your new phone.
I asked three people who I had put in my allowed list to phone me and everything was fine so I asked my son to call me from his work number which was intercepted ( not on any of my lists ) and I had to accept his call so I am presuming it is working ok
I have not had any scam calls at all only the friends and family that I want to speak to.
Glad I purchased this phone for the peace and quie
Decent quality triple phones and just like my last set from BT, they block nuisance and unknown caller’s well, especially once you’ve added your main contacts to the VIP list.
The colour screen is like something from an old 2/3G mobile, loud enough volume on the earpiece and on speaker (which is activated by pressing the green call button again during the call). Good size numbers which are backlit, the phones stand upright separate from the base and are comfortable to hold and use.
The screen goes blank during calls, but if you press the green call button during the call, it displays the ongoing length of the call so far, which is useful (especially if you have an inclusive calls package which are usually set to a 60 minute fair usage maximum before additional charges are incurred).
My only gripes are minor. The dashboard is a tad fiddly as ever and not the quickest navigating between menus. And finding contacts is cumbersome in comparison to a mobile. Clicking on your contacts button, it’s take a second or two to generate and you can’t just scroll through the list like on a mobile. Instead, you have to manually click through one at a time, but you can speed this up by pressing the numbers that correlate to the spelling of your contacts name – i.e., for John, you’d press 5 once (for the J under J, K and L) and the screen goes briefly blank before displaying the list of contacts starting with J, and you can press the 6 three times for the O (M, N, O) etc.
Virgin Media have moved us away from the old copper lines, to making calls via the internet fibre hub, so the answerphone base will have to be near wherever your hub is. Frustratingly for me, the hub is upstairs, so the green light on the answerphone signifying a message is not where I want it. Even so, the other handsets display missed calls and the number of messages left, and you can pick them up from any handset – not perfect, but functional.
Oh and a bonus, ideally I’d have had a 4th handset and I’m pleased to say that I was able to connect the best of my old BT handsets to the new base, which answers fine, albeit it doesn’t seem to be able to display my contact list.
This was a replacement from our old BT8500 system that got zapped in an electrical storm.
The Call Guardian system is excellent and something I was used to from the previous model. The hand set buttons are a good size so you don’t need to squint when setting up new numbers or dialling out.
Strangely though, the buttons on the base/answer phone unit are very small.
The one irritation for me was the unnecessary blue light on the charging cradles for the extra phones. We have one in the bedroom in case of late night incoming calls so it is intrusive when you are trying to sleep. Some it may not bother and others will probably get used to it but we live out in the country where there is little or no light pollution. I resolved it by placing a piece of black electrical tape over it.
I can’t comment on the blue tooth options as we don’t use them, but all in all a decent cordless set though perhaps a little pricey.
The phones are great, we wanted phones to stop continuous nuisance calls, these phones are perfect. Firstly you can Bluetooth all your contacts from your mobile phone, not as easy as I hoped but worked it out, you can then flag all these numbers a vip so they are always let through, you can also add to this list, you can then set to block calls from withheld or unknown numbers, most phones or providers have this feature but this is where these phones are better and it all happens in the background without you knowing, the phones intercept the unknown call with a message saying the number is being monitored and to state there name and press # if the caller does this the phone rings and you are able to hear who is calling I.e doctor and accept the call, most cold callers or scammers just hang up but if they decide to continue you can hear who they are and reject there call, so far no more nuisance calls.
This BT cordless phone is highly-rated in a well-known consumer magazine, which was what prompted me to buy it.
It was fairly easy to set up. However, the process of transferring/copying your mobile phone contacts onto it is not very clearly explained in the instruction manual, so I had quite a few false starts before it finally worked. The terminology used in the manual is a bit misleading.
It IS very good at blocking incoming calls. If you want to allow your friends to contact you, then you need to make them “VIPs” at the outset, otherwise they’ll complain that they can’t get through to you!
One big disappointment is the choice of ringtones, where your options are VERY limited and you can’t download ringtones from the internet, of course.
Another slight niggle is that battery life – when out of the cradle – is not very generous. It seems to run out of charge pretty quickly . . . . and I am not one to talk for long on the phone.
I read all the negative reviews and was a little hesitant, but the price was good so I thought I’d at least try.
Our phone line is provided by Sky and this wasn’t an issue.
The phones look nice, and yes they are plastic, but I don’t think they feel particularly cheap, they feel fine to me.
They look fine, the numeric buttons are back-lit and the screen is clear and easy to read. The buttons on the base are small but easy and intuitive to use. I don’t see how you can miss the answering machine light as some posters have said.
Set up was easy, just keep in mind that if you are taking numbers from a mobile, these need to be stored on the device itself not on the sim card.
The ring tones are simple ring tones (x2), but I don’t need a symphony every time it rings, as long as I know it’s ringing that’s job done.
The features seem great; find phone from base, ring other handset (intercom type thing), and different setups for call blocking.
We’ve had them installed for a day, a peaceful day, with no ‘PPI’, ‘finance advice, ‘you’ve been in an accident’, ‘your amazon prime is going to renew’ or ‘you’re about to have police knocking on your door because you owe the tax man thousands’ phone calls. The day before I put them in I had 4 of the above.
All in all, so far I would definitely recommend these phones. They’re not overly snazzy, but I’m guessing most people buy them for the nuisance call block function, and this seems to be flawless. I’m pleased with them. 50 for two handsets is affordable and it does what it says on the tin. I’m glad I tried despite the negative reviews.
**A note to sky customers: Caller ID had never worked since we’ve been with sky and it hasn’t bothered us, but obviously we needed it for these to work. It’s supposed to be activated when you take out a call package but it often isn’t. I rung sky (on customer services, not 150 as this led to a never ending circle of useless text messages), and they activated it their end. It takes 48 hours to become active, and during that time all of your calls will be screened. **
I was a bit nervous paying this for a phone with such mixed reviews, but having been registered with the Telephone Preference Service for years and getting fed up with all the international nuisance calls that they have no power to deal with. I decided I needed to do something.
The phone is nice and solid, feels comfortable to hold and is easy to use.
The first job you are going to want to do, is to connect your mobile (can connect more than one) via bluetooth and import your contacts. Also when your mobile is connected via bluetooth, you can use your mobile instead of the handset when making landline calls and your Landline phone can be used when calling on your mobile. Quite useful if your battery is low or you prefer to use the other device.
You do need caller ID from your phone service provider for the call blocking to work, so if you don’t have that then you should get it. If your provider charges for such an in-expensive feature, maybe it’s time to review your service agreement.
Call blocking is simple. If an unknown number phones, they get displayed and you can choose to accept or add to the blocked list. If you block them, they get a message telling them they are blocked in future. If they are a friend or family or genuine caller, and they haven’t been added to your phone book, they will unfortunately have to pass the call screening. This is down to you to ensure family and friends are in your contacts. If they aren’t, why on earth not ? They can pass call screening by announcing who they are. Your phone then rings and announces the caller from the name they left (recorded from what they said) and you can choose to accept or reject and whether to block the caller.
It does take time. But the end result of bothering to set it up correctly will benefit you. No product is just going to be able to decide for you, who to accept and who to block.
One very useful feature of the call blocking is the ability to block area codes. So you could block calls from a particular country. If you don’t have friends or relatives there and a nuisance caller starts to phone you using multiple calling lines ( a common trick ). you can just block calls from an entire region of the world if you wish. You can also block calls beginning with a set of numbers, which should reduce cold callers from solar scams/insurance scams/pension scams etc. No system will ever be perfect, scammers will find ways around many systems, but this one seems to cover most bases and as a result, I haven’t received a nuisance call since installing it, although as you can see from the photos, they have tried, those numbers are known scammers, easily googled, and the red symbol shows they are blocked. Phone never rang, and they will move onto softer targets, i.e those without call blocking. Good luck to you if you are reading this review and don’t buy 🙂
The only feature I miss is my previous phone announced the caller name if they were in my contacts, saving bothering to go look at the screen. A minor negative.
Overall I would score this 9.5/10 with the announce caller name my previous non call blocking phone had being the .5 of a point lost, but I consider this a small loss, compared to never being bothered listening to John with his heavy foreign accent explain to me that he is calling from Windows, or Janet, also with an incredibly heavy foreign accent, who wants to let me know that the tax office are going to send me to jail and Paul the Nigerian Pastor/Prince/Investment banker would like my bank details to send me lots of money to hide for him
