FOOTNOTE:

* Page yield of ink bottle used for initial setup is lower than a replacement as a certain amount of ink is used to fill the print head during setup. Page yield is the estimated value based on Canon’s individual test method using the ISO/IEC 24712 colour chart and continuous printing simulation with the replacement ink bottles after initial setup.

Black and colour page yields are not to be combined.

Page yield varies significantly depending on contents printed and other factors.

After having Epson printers for years and after having any latest Epson for only two months and going through 3 sets of inks in that time and being fed up with constantly running out of ink and the costs and time associated with purging new ink cartridges along with the hassle of blocked printer heads and poor prints I decided to return the Epson and got a full refund

I then thought I’d go for this item and so pleased I did the quality is great and I printed off loads of work and hardly used any ink

If your looking for a printed all I can say is these are grea

If you’re even contemplating this printer, stop searching and get this one. I’ve had so many printers over my career as a Graphic Designer, all my previous inkjets were flawed due to expensive cartridges, and useless page counts per cartridge. This printer covers off all the regular requirements (and even has a fax option which is likely to never be used) But the ink is WAY cheaper, and genuinely produces hundreds of prints. Perfect for busy families with multiple printing needs. The kids can print direct from their phones, so theres no need for features like built in NFC or card readers that dont get used. But then it gets better, the photo prints are indistinguishable from my 6 ink ‘photo’ printer, so this is getting plenty of use. Only misses out on 5 stars due to lack of ‘light up’ touchscreen display.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best printer I've had in 30 years.

Early days but this printer was easy to set up and use. I am getting used to the differences from my old (HP) machine and hopeful that the ink costs are well reduced. Air printing from phone and tablet is good although it is necessary to physically turn the printer on as it goes to sleep very readily. I’ll get used to it!

My original canon printer had a print head problem, after 7 years of printing high quality prints for photo club competitions I decided on this model dreading all the set up again, 10 minutes after unwrapping it was all set up and after examining my first image it is as good as my previous printer plus it’s handy for multi page documents, highly recommended

Only had this printer for a few weeks, but all good so far. Very easy to set up and to connect all my devices.

When this printer arrived, despite have a quality printer before, I could not get the item to log onto WiFi. Feeling that there was a fault, I sent it back. A check by the supplier suggest all ok. I accepted it back with the offer of set up help.
It is now up and working though my connection to the computer is by usb.
A good printer but I have to suggest not the easiest to set up. With usb no problem. WiFi not so. I was eventually able to connect iPhone on the WiFi. This worked well.
From my experience, I found the customer service very helpful.

Golden Review Award: 29 From Our UsersThese are very first impressions after I just installed that thing as a replacement for an old HP8620 which requires a new print head which is supposed to cost as much as this new Canon:

    Positives:
Packaging is awesome – well done Canon.
The print heads needed to be put in place by me. This tells me, they are a ready exchangeable. I might actually buy some as spares to avoid having to throw out a perfectly good printer because the print heads are clogged after 10 years ….
The online installation assistant did a good job.
3 black ink bottles is generous.
The printer is very small and light compared to HP
I like the way that rarely used accessories (ADF, rear feed) are covered from dust when stowed.
It is good to have a separate feed for unusual paper (envelopes, photo)
The printer has a vast feature set nicely documented over 600 pages of manual.
By some awesome miracle, all Windows laptops in our house realized it was there and were immediately ready to print on it, without further a-do.
Double-sided printing works by some weird mechanical wizardry, cleverer than the reverser of the HP. But the wizardry isn’t quick.
    Printing text is reasonably quick.
Despite being obviously not in the scanner database of my hopelessly out-of-date Paperport 11 (which I still enjoy using for scanning and archiving), Paperport learned all the features it requires to function via the TWAIN interface. In fact, Paperport works better with the Canon than with the HP.
You get some pretty useful scan software thrown into the bundle.

    Negatives:
No backlit display – this is simply unacceptable. The theme will recur later but it seems that Canon thinks that their printer should be a central feature in an accessible bright-lit space of your room. Not tucked away in some dingy corner, like every other printer I have ever known. Keep a torch by the printer.
First picture print – on regular paper – was a shocker. May be don’t go there – I will reserve judgement until I have photo paper.
Scanner ADF is slow compared to the 8620 – if that is your mainstay, you may have to look elsewhere.
It is noisier than the HP and comes up with an amazing variety of noises
The rear paper tray is super awkward unless your printer is some a central feature to the room it is in. When the printer is placed against a wall, it is hopeless. This is where the light weight of the machine comes in handy – you need to rotate or try whatever.
The sockets for all connections are a right joke – if you have a 5-year old to help you, your are in luck. Anyone older and good luck trying to fit the telephone connections (for the fax, if you can be asked).
The thing has a administrator password set that you may need from time to time. There is NO INDICATION (I came across) that would tell you what it is. A quick Google reveals, it is the serial number (code, really) of the machine. You get that when you print out the network settings.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI needed to switch to colour printing away from my black & white laser. This multi function unit is working great so far. Good print quality, very economical to run, a little slow (especially on duplex), but easy to set up and use. Works well with my iphone as well as my windows laptop. Cheep, large capacity ink is a fraction of the cost of a colour laser toner replacement and after printing 100 7 x 5 photos I still have 85% ink left. Highly recommended.

Golden Review Award: 20 From Our UsersI got the G7050 (from the High Street) because I just retired and needed the ink bottles to bring down the total cost of ownership. I also needed duplex printing and an auto document feeder, with support for Windows, Android and Ubuntu, which reduced the field down to just this model.

    The good bits:
    ============
    Clear and detailed scans (multi-page).
    The cost of ownership.
    Ease of setup.
100 page paper tray, with a window in the tray to monitor how much paper is left.
Also has a rear tray, which auto-detects that you are using it.
It is obvious what the ink levels are.
The scanning software is simple and easy to work.
The Windows 10 software is easy to use and simple and easy to install.
The Android app is great, you can scan & print from the app – you can print from G-Drive, OneDrive and other services.
Ubuntu 20.04 driver prints well, scanning is basic, but is more than functional.
Build quality is reasonable to good.
Print quality for documents is reasonable to good.

    Ok (ish) bits:
    ===========
Print speed is reasonable, slower than you would expect these days (13ppm).
Appears to be 2.4Ghz WiFi only.

    The not so good:
    ==============
The textual two-line monochrome LCD screen is basic to say the least and cumbersome in use – call it 1990’s retro style!
This is a colour printer, but it only has three colours and black, so again – call it 1990’s retro style!
The online capability is basic compared to competitors – you will not scan direct to e-mails or online storage, but you can scan to a PC (Win 10 & Ubuntu) or an Android app.
Photo quality is my biggest niggle (there is a new range of Canon ink tank printers with more colours and far better photo quality, but that range, so far, lacks an auto-duplex and an auto-document feeder model).

This model replaced a different brand of printer, which had great online ability, with a good LCD screen, however, that particular printer failed in every respect that the Canon G7050 excels. Given the choice of being good at the basics with less features, or having more features but failing at the basics, bitter experience has taught me to go for a printer that does less, but does the basics well.
