With this tent, I just went on vacation for a week; I liked the blackout feature because it prevented me from getting up too early. For two adults and our camping gear, it was fairly cozy. The four-man version is here. It handled the Irish weather extremely well. The only issue is that the porch area might have used a few additional attachment points to the ground sheet because the rain did get in here (only into the porch area), but this was an easy fix.
All in all, I would strongly suggest this tent.
I recently went off for a week with this tent, I love the black out feature as it meant no waking too early. It was very comfortable for two adults and our camping gear. We have the 4 man version. It stood up very well to the Irish weather. Only complaint is there could be a few more attachment points for the porch area to the ground sheet as the rain did get in here (just into the porch area) But it was easily rectified.
Over all this is a great tent and I highly recommend.
Loved my first tent experience – it’s really easy and quick to pitch even for a total novice. The “bedroom” stays nice and dark in the morning and the front space is really useful to store stuff. Only negative point is that in the front bit the groundsheet comes up on the sides but is not attached to the fly so the gap can open with the wind, and I suppose animals could get in especially if you are storing food! Some velcro or ties would help.
Bought this for a last minute festival for myself. Really impressed with the quality of the tent and easy enough to put up solo. Enough space for one person but can’t see you fitting 4 people in it lol. Really well made. Porch area handing and the blackout does help you sleep well. Definitely recommend. Arrived the next day on time.
Good size for 2 defo not for 3 even better for 1 haha more space for your tackle love the blackout sleep miles better and don’t wake at 5 am with the light great tent.
Daft old Grandpa managed to get it up and pegged out in 14 minutes flat so must be simple! Seriously, it’s a good basic tent as you would expect from Coleman. No initial problems with the quality but it’s first outing is in the warm sunshine so cannot speak to wet weather or strong wind. Blackout worked well. Porch set up too. Mine is a 3 person but you’d have to be pretty friendly, I think it’s two and for me it works really well for one to give lots of space and I like to take lots of kit! As always it’s easier to get the tent out of its useful carrying sleeve than to compress it sufficiently to get it back in but I did manage it at the third attempt. Deffo a recommend.
It is small.not enough space for 3 adults.i would say may be 2 adults plus 1 young child or 2 children plus 1 adult. Storage area is small as well.it is lightweight.
I originally bought this tent because my wife of 14 years finally kicked me out of our house. At first I must admit I was really upset about not being able to sleep in my own bed or under my own roof. As I began setting up the tent underneath the overpass near our house by tesco, I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to put together, despite the fact I was physically and emotionally devastated. It advertised as a 3 man tent, but it was only really big enough to house myself, my suitcase and our family pet dog pops. I love this tent so much I’ve decided to stop looking for a place to rent or buy altogether and to make this tent a permanent residence. I would recommend this tent as highly as I would recommend getting a pre-nup before signing your life away. Many thanks Mike
Good blackout tent. Very easy to put up. The vestibule and air vents make the space very comfortable. Can’t fault it so far but let’s see how long it lasts in rain and after several uses. Owing to its thickness (needed for blackout) and its size it is a bit heavy at 5kg but you’d expect that.
Very good quality tent got back from a camping trip recently and their was snow and rain on and off all week and the inside off the tent stayed completly dry (3 man) . The amount off space is fine inside alothough the size i am i wish i got the 4 man but very easy to set up and put away i managed to in complete darkness and heavy wind
Very easy to put up and down! Blackout feature pretty good and porch area fairly adequate for small rucksack and boots and cooking gear to store! Biggest disappointment is that inside is quite small with one person on a single air bed, can’t imagine 3 people inside as the standard air bed takes up more than a third of the space and touch’s both ends of the tent! If you use an air bed with a pillow your head is actually touching the inner tent so wouldn’t like to be in really inclement weather! I would imagine even with 2 people it could feel quite claustrophobic, especially if using a double air bed! For reference I’m a 5ft 6in female of average build! Would be better sold as a 1/2 person tent!
Really lovely tent, was really happy using this on my camping trip 🙂
High gusty winds and the tent didn’t move. Very pleased. No leaks either.
Ok, wasn’t too difficult putting it up, pegs were a bit flimsy tho. First morning the porch area was soaked, this is due to the cables needing to be tied to the inside of porch which we hadn’t realised, you basically are making it like a pocket to stop water coming in
Was freezing cold on first night, haven’t camped and been that cold before, unsure what the actual temperature was though so can’t compare
The bedroom was really dark, so ideal as thats what I’d bought it for.
I bought the 4 man tent for 2 of us and a dog, it was very cramped so bear that in mind
Overall I am happy with the tent, unable to find a budget tent with same darkness
Lightweight, easy to put up, great blackout bedroom, would thoroughly recommend.
Lightweight. Ready to put up and pack away. The blackout is effective. The vents work nicely and the groundsheet/porch lip, to keep shoes and bags dry, is a useful feature. All in all this feels like a well designed tent. Very happy with it!
First time using a Coleman tent , so easy to put up. Only took 10 minutes from start to finish . Nice little porch , good black out quality. Recommend it highly. Plenty of room for myself and 2 grandchildren with a lot of room left over to spread our gear out. Excellent tent. After using it in a thunderstorm, I will be attaching velcro strips around the porch area. The water has run down the outer sheet, a few simple strips of velcro would have joined the ground sheet and porch area together, preventing the pools of wate
Very pleased with this tent. Black out bedroom is perfect with a good size porch for boots and extra bits. Very good quality and excellent value for money.
I bought this for camping in the summer. We only had a 2 man tent so invested money in this. Can’t wait now to go camping. Was very easy to set up.
Got this gent at a really good price as the price varys quite a bit.
Love this tent, no issues with it at all except its not as dark inside as id hoped.
I brought this tent as a easy tent to put up on quwick little camping trips with my partner and I was really sprised how good this tent is, it keeps water out really well and it is really sturdy in strong wind , the first time i used this was in Wales and there was a storm over night and throughout the night I kept supper dry and warm , also the black out works super well, in the morning it looks like it is 9 at night , it keeps the tent supper darck in the morning so u will definitely not be distrirbed by the morning sun , this tent is also good size to fit 3 single air beds in with a small gap between them and the way I sleep in it is with a king size air bed for me and my partner and with a king in it u sill have plenty of room for Ur bags, but if u are in role mats u can get 4 people in it if you put Ur stuff in the porch , taking about the porch it is a perfect size to keep shoes in and to sit in to put shoes on , u can have 2 pople sit in the front porch and put there shoes on easily. This tent also packs dowm really will and is easy to fold up and the bag is not one of them silly small bags , also when putting the tent up it is supper easy for one person to do by there self as u don’t have to thred the poles thrown as it had clip on pols with the 2 layer design. Over all I am really pleased with this tent definitely the best tent I have purchased and amazing for the price I would highly recommend.
I was pleasantly surprised how well this tent works.
Blackout: the inside (except for the top ventilation panels) is made of blackout fabric, and most of the outer rain fly (except for two side panels) is blackout fabric. Unfortunately it’s quite difficult to get the absolutely perfect lineup of these two parts for full blackout. There are also some pinprick holes in the fly that let light in. It’s not like being in a cave, but it is significantly better than a non-blackout tent, and I can manage the subtle light with an eye mask. It also keeps it a lot cooler than a regular tent – I don’t think I woke up sweating at all this summer.
Size – I have the 3-person, and it sleeps 3 on thermarests with small bags, two on thermarests with large bags, or one double air mattress. I’m 5’2″ and I could stand bent over, or sit in my camping chair with no trouble.
Set-up: Easy to set up with two people, fine to set up with one if you’re experienced. One thing I dislike is that after you have the inner layer and poles up, you have to tie the layer onto the poles – this would be better with a hook. Frustrating to set up in the rain as it’s internal-first, then rain fly so by the time you get to the rain fly the inside is wet.
Layout – The little porch is just big enough to have some room to put shoes on, or to do some sheltered cooking in light wind.
Weight – It’s too heavy for backpacking, but great for festivals or car camping.
Zipper – I’m not sure of the zipper’s durability. It got stuck once this summer, and I finally managed to escape by lubing it up with chapstick. I feel like with the amount I use it, I’ll have to replace the zippers fairly soon.
Bag – It comes in a zippered bag with web handles. If you’re not good at packing up tents, it’ll just about fit. If you’re great at packing up tents, it’ll fit with loads of extra room – enough to fit some other gear!
Best part: the improvement in sleep I get with the blackout material, good layout, fits in bag no problem
Worst part: zipper, set-up.
Ideal for a motorcycle holiday easy to pack on a motorcycle it is light weight has excellent black out and plenty of room for rucksacks boots gear, also easy to erect and pack away.no condensation issues either, but space for 4 and well pushing that a bit , so perfect for two adults or four children , all in all a good tent for most weathers
My son loves it and uses when travelling with a car . He says it’s too heavy to back pack easily
Good quality tent. Withstood torrential rain and high wind. Good sized sleeping area, and blackout a bonus! Only negative is that entrance ‘porch’ gets very wet if it rains, as sides of tent are not attached to this part, hence 4stars.
used this at festivals this summer for 2 people with a fair amount of stuff with us. Blackout feature is great and the tent was easy to put up. It looked like a few holes had appeared in the tent but after further inspection it was only holes in the blackout material so no leaks! Would recommend.
This is our first tent. Never camped before. Husband was able to peg it in 25 minutes which we think is good enough time for first timers.
The tent is as described on the advert. Nice light weight, spacious and with blacked out ‘bedroom’ and a small porch.
I would be interested to know as to where could one procure the fiber glass pole of one broke. The tent doesn’t come with any warranty or spare pegs or fiber glass poles.
Update : used the tent on our very first camping trip this summer. Felt it was very easy to put up and is a fantastic basic first tent for new campers who want to see if camping is for them or not before investing in bigger more expensive stuff. The black out bit works, there are enough pegs to put the things up and is water tight. BUT there are a few things to note. Some of the pegs bend when putting up the tent so would be worth build extra ones. The tent gets really hot during the hottest of the summer days. So best to plan something outside on hot days. No way four people can fit in this tent. All in all, good tent. But will buy another one when we are comfortable with camping.
Wow! We treated ourselves to this for a music festival, being drawn to the blackout interior and I have to say that it was very very impressive and the envy of all our friends who we went with. The quality and build of the tent is fantastic and the blackout feature really works well, I’ve never slept so well when camping, I really can’t recommend this tent more!
Amazing tent love the black out part working nights then coming back to my tent and been able to sleep was amazing. Would recommend this tent to anyone of my work colleagues as it is amazing for festivals witch you need a good tent for bad weathe
Setting Up –
Took about 20 mins solo. Pretty easy to set up, if you’ve ever set up a Coleman tent before it’s really not much different. The only exception is with the bathtub floor of the porch, it took a bit of trial and error to get the front pegs positioned to get enough tension to keep it upright. It could also do with an extra set of toggles on the middle of the side sections to keep it together.
Actual Use –
Very good, the inside is very roomy with two people plus kit and there are pockets at either side for gear and a handy hook at the top for a light! The “Blackout Bedroom” technology is pretty good. It’s not completely dark because there’s a fair amount of light leaking from the door end of the tent, but it was plenty dark enough to have a decent lie in past dawn which was excellent! I don’t think it worked to keep the bedroom section cool at all, it was incredibly hot in the day still, and felt much cooler when I went outside. Although seeing as it’s currently a heatwave here (and pretty unusual weather) I will update this later in the year if it helps keep it cooler during the day.
Used for a solid 5 days and it felt very comfortable the whole time, there’s enough height to crouch and move around inside without hitting the ceiling which was good. I didn’t notice any condensation in the tent which was a nice change, the top of the inner on the tent is mostly mesh which I imagine helps keep that the case!
There was only a slight bit of rain and very little wind, so I can’t comment on how it will work when the weather turns bad, but so far for summer – It’s pretty good.
Packing Away –
Took about 25 mins with two. You basically follow the instructions backwards. The inner neatly folds into 3 and then the porch on top. The outer was a bit more difficult, it was hard to find folding lines on it to pack it back in the bag. Luckily there was extra room in the bag so it went back in easily enough.
I’m definitely looking forward to using it again, and it’s a huge upgrade from my much older 2 man tent. It could be easier to pack away and it’s a touch on the heavy side, but great to actually use!
Bought to take my two small dogs on a trip while my husband is away and has only been put up in the garden to check that it’s all good.
The bedroom compartment is very dark (considering the bright sunshine I put it up in), didn’t take long at all and it’s very straight forward.
Bedroom is big enough to put a double campbed and still have sufficient room for 2 small lap-dogs. Not sure it would be ideal for more than two adults and a small child. Yes you could sleep 4 people in there, possibly even 5… but, I can fit 5 people in my tiny car, but I certainly wouldn’t want to!
All in all, I’m happy with the quality, the price and for what I want to use it for.
We’ve all been there – nursing a brutal hangover that would be strong enough to kill a small animal, and the heat of the morning sun starts to slowly roast you. But not with this tent!
I used this in the summer at an extremely hot festival in the UK (it was 30+ degrees every day) and it kept my tent cooler for an hour or two longer than my friends who had non-blackout tents.
In terms of features, it has everything you’d want as either 1 or 2 people camping at a festival. I wouldn’t want to try to fit 3 people in though.
Took this out on its first outing, and it rained and rained(very heavily!), but the inside of the sleeping area of the tent stayed bone dry, although the zip up door at the foot of the sleeping end did feel wet, but I assume this was condensation rather than rain coming in from somewhere. The porch area was quite badly affected by condensation, and when I took the tent down the inside of the flysheet was wet, but like I say, it hadn’t penetrated the inner tent.Pitching is relatively easy, although I did have to go back and unpeg because I’d forgotten to attach the outer to the inner with the velcro tabs! I bought this for the blackout bedroom, and did it make a difference? Yes, absolutely. It doesn’t block out all light obviously, but it certainly helps with sleeping. I bought this to use when I’m going to a campsite that isn’t far away from public transport, as it is a bit heavier than the usual backpacking tent, I nearly went for the Kobuk Valley 2,but I’m glad I didn’t, as for me the 3 man version was a comfortable fit for me and my rucksack! I’m only 5′ 9″ tall, but I don’t think anyone much taller would feel unrestricted in movement, and their head would be touching the back wall in order to fit in. Due to suffering a theft from a porch area previously, I don’t like to use it as a storage area, but it is a decent size, although due to the groundsheet it means you can’t cook in the porch, unless you want to unclip it and roll it back. I had to pack it away wet, and ended up putting the nearly dry inner in the tent bag, and the fly into a bin bag until I got home, I saw no way of getting the whole wet tent into the provided bag, and this is the one thing I really don’t like. The bag provided is a really tight fit, it’d be much better with a drawstring stuff sack, as I can see me getting frustrated trying to force the tent in the bag, and catching the fabric on the zip. Despite this, it’s a good tent, but I’d buy an all in one pitch tent with a blackout bedroom like a shot.
Easy to put up on your own. I love this tent but only for a couple, big double bed then room for bags and loo etc. The black out was fantastic. I don’t sleep but slept 10 hours. Would recommend a colemans and have to everyone. Very well made. Better than any tent i ve bought.
I took a gamble on buying this tent as there were no reviews for it when I made the purchase but it really is a great tent. I bought this just before Glastonbury and having camped in an area that’s used as a main thoroughfare of foot traffic this tent got trodden on and battered repeatedly over a 5 day period. It’s still in one piece though and there is no damage.
I loved the blacked out lining especially as I tend to wake up as the sun rises and when you’re going to bed plastered at 7am after a night of raving, sunshine blasting through the sheet isn’t what you want.
The lining also helped to keep the tent cooler on the inside which was great in the baking hot weather we had.
Size wise I’d say 2 people and a bit of luggage or 3 people and no luggage rather than 3 persons plus.
The windows had curtains which is great to hide any contents kept inside and when it did rain, the water stayed outside!!
All in all I was pleased with this tent and I am a fan of Coleman tents in general.
The only reason I’m giving 4 stars though is that with an air mattress on the inside I felt I could’ve done with an extra inch or two lengthways. I’m 5’6 and my feet were touching the cover and my head the other and the pockets on the inside aren’t that deep. I couldn’t put my torch in there as it was too big. I managed a toothbrush and toothpaste tube in the one and that was all it could hold.
