Gewohnte Corsair Qualitt!
Obviously if you’ve dealt with corsair fans you know how complicated the setup can be when you’ve got 20 wires running through your case.
The fans are beautiful and they can run pretty quiet if you set them up properly. At max speed, they are pretty audible, but that is probably the case with most fans at max speed. Other than a few hiccups with 1 of the fans, I was able to them all setup in a few hours. My commander core gave me issues but amazon was able to ship me a replacement and I got my entire pc up in running after a 5 day building period. First ever custom build and I couldn’t be happier.
I wouldn’t recommend these fans if you’re looking for the easiest and neatest cable management, but they fan are a sight to behold. Little on the pricey side but I am expecting these to last for a while. I went with white so that I don’t have to worry color problems with the individual led’s. Time will tell.
Want beautiful RGB for your setup? Then the Corsair QL120 fans are a must. The whole fan glows back and front so no matter what angle you look at them from you will see amazing illumination. I have bought 12 of these fans for my 10 fan PC case for their eye-catching lights.
This is where I am saddened by the common issue with these fans. The burnout of the lights is frequent and their high price makes it off putting to having to constantly replace them. The hideous colour that is left behind means you are limited to pink, orange and reds to hide the broken lights. This is the cost of outstanding allround RGB.
So buy at your own risk.
You may get lucky and have beautiful lights for your PC, or have to deal with warranty and having to constantly get a replacement.
As everyone who builds their own PC knows, selecting the parts is a long process to get everything right for your dream machine and getting the right fans is a big part of this as they often provide most of the lighting effects. I spent ages deciding which fans to get and ended up selecting Corsair’s QL fans mainly because of the way they look and especially as they have the LED’s on both sides as the 6 that I was installing would all be intake fans and therefore I’d be seeing the back of them. I also like how everything gels so nicely with Corsair’s iCUE software which now even lets you control nanoleaf panels. (I currently use iCUE to control the lighting on the 6 QL fans, memory modules, motherboard, GPU, keyboard, mouse, mouse mat and 2 sets of nanoleaf panels and all work seamlessly together)
Installation is a real chore however due to the fact each fan has 2 cables for power and lighting so you end up with quite a mess of cables that provides a challenge for tidy cable management although I was building in Lian-Li’s 011 Dynamic case which is a dual chamber and helps to hide most of the cable management. I used one of the lighting node core’s that come with the triple pack of fans to connect the LED cables and this was then connected to a Commander Pro along with the power cables. A load of zip ties are necessary to help with tidying all the cables!
Once I had the fan curves set up correctly (Corsair’s standard curves are too generic and produce too much noise) the fans run with little noise and can hardly be noticed in the background, in fact under heavy gaming it’s the NZXT fans I have installed on their AIO that make most of the noise, and the QL’s are still relatively quiet, so much so that I’m tempted to replace the NZXT fans with more QL fans.
Once everything is configured sitting back and admiring the huge number of lighting effects is very satisfying, however this is where the flaw appeared. As with many other reviews I’ve seen, I noticed with certain colour combinations that some of the leds were coloured incorrectly, the first fan did this only a couple of months in to using them. Once I realized it was a fault on one of the leds I would either turn that led off or use a colour that didn’t show it but when the problem started on all six fans with multiple leds on each fan I decided to follow up with Corsair as I felt for the cost they should be perfect.
Corsair were relatively quick to respond and I communicated back and fore via email with the same tech who provided 2 options. 1. standard RMA which means sending them to Corsair for inspection and once they were satisfied they were faulty they would send replacements. Or 2. Expedited RMA where Corsair charges your credit card and sends out replacements straight away, once received you send the faulty ones back in the prepaid envelope that comes with your replacements and once they examine them and agree they’re faulty they refund your credit card. It was only after they had all the info including proof of purchase that they suddenly requested another photo of the fans showing the faults with all lights set to white and when I sent this to them they decided that they wouldn’t bother with the RMA and just sent out 6 replacement fans without me having to return the faulty ones which was appreciated.
So in summary,
PROs
1. Fantastic look and large number of leds making them extremely configurable
2. Work seamlessly with iCUE software
3. Very Quiet running once fan curves are configured
CONs
1. Expensive
2. Cabling nightmare, especially if used in cases that are not dual chamber
3. Possible LED faults (although hard to determine just how widespread this is as more often or not people only leave reviews when they have a problem) and a real pain to have to remove and reinstall.
Personally, I love the look of these fans so much I’d take the risk with the fault, especially as the warranty is 2 years and my experience with Corsair’s after sales was quite good. I think the only other fans I’d consider at the moment are Lian-Li’s new Infinity uni-fans which not only look stunning but they seem to have nailed the cabling issues with their interlocking fan set up. The only thing against those for me is that I’m heavily invested in Corsairs iCUE software but we’ll see when I next upgrade or rebuild 🙂
Hope this review helps anyone who’s considering these fans.
Way better than expected , straight forward to set up , slight hiccup, my fault , don’t blame the product if things don’t go to plan as can be the usual case , First time fitted fans of this type and so glad bit the bullet and got these , 2 on the front , the other on the back as extractor, looks great , recommended
hese are one of the best rgb fans you can get they are a bit pricey but they look good in any system and the cooling is good and it doesn’t get too loud
Replaced all my fans in my pc with these corsair ones very impressed with them, they are very quiet and with the node controller once you install the ICUE software makes it easy to change the colour on the fans, plus if you have anything else like Corsair AIO with RGB can customise from the ICUE software, the only thing with the fans they are very expensive and will put a lot of people off, i have brought 3 140mm and a 120mm worth it don’t regret buying them.
I bought 6 fans to replace my standard fans. Very expensive but buying them in 3’s had a lighting core included. Setting them up was very easy but one word of warning make sure you have 1 x USB internal socket free on your motherboard. most new boards only have 2, realised I needed to buy an extension, They make a NZXT one but another 22 cost. Love the lights though
I honestly thought these would look better than they do. There are lots of options, but I find the colours don’t match my other Corsair fans.
They are good, but I am not sure they are worth the price.
Glad I got these instead of the LL120s.
Quiet, awesome rgb on both intake and exhaust. Easy enough to install with CoPro and lighting NoPro.
Would thoroughly recommend over any other rgb fans if the full on RGB puke is your thing (like me haha)
Really glad I bought a set of these. They are easy to install and configure and a joy to look at. Will buy another set when it’s back in stock.
eally do like this fan I only have the one for now but I may invest in more down the line, as for the RGB its rather cool, and all the effects a great I have the rpm set to around 500 so I cant hear it and it still helps my tower cooler pull out the warm are
Great fans love the control you have over them on ICUE the one think I can think to mention is they aren’t the best for noise levels but there not bad
I bought these fans as a replacement for Fractal Design Addressable RGB LED Prisma AL 4-pin PWM. They had beautiful leds but Corasir has reached the next level !!!.Light is vivid and the effects are fluid even in the slowest mode.In combination with nzxt kraken z73 and its beautiful lcd, I think the PC looks great.I highly recommend.
bit pricy but they are good, I will give them 5star when they start allowing their stuff to work with other companies RGB kits
Love the fan. The LL series works o the one side this chappie does both and you can set them independently using iCue software.
Don’t try and mix and match LL and QL as the iCue software can’t coltrol. Both at once (u less u splash out on another RGB hub. Take the 10r that costs and get yourself the QL
What can I say other than these made a great addition to my gaming pc.
Very quiet and easy to control the colour profile using the Corsair software.
I would recommend it! Never disappointed by Corsair products.
The fans are beautiful and are the best rgb fans in my opinion. The fact that it has LEDs on the back of the fans makes it so the fans still look nice on the interior of the case when used as intake fans. These boys are silent while still giving good performance. I used them on my 360 radiator to cool my 3700x and the temperatures are amazing. Never goes above 60C even when gaming. iCue software is also very easy to use for setting up custom fan curves and custom rgb lighting effects. No complaints at all
When I recently updated my PC with a new CPU, motherboard, RAM, etc., I decided to give it a bit of facelift by adding RGB components. It’s totally a cosmetic decision but if I’m going to have a big metal box in my room, then it might as well look the part.
To complete the transformation, I needed some cooling fans that would light up as well. The watercooler already had two large RGB fans but I needed some for the case itself. Unfortunately, the motherboard (Asus Prime Z390-A) only has 12V RGB outputs and not the more common 5V ARGB outputs. So, I needed a set of fans that come with their own controller.
I decided to go with this Corsair set (iCUE QL 120mm) as I was already using their iCUE software. The biggest stumbling block was the price! While I’ve always liked Corsair products, the asking price was very steep. In the end I decided it was worth it but I still feel they are too expensive.
Fitting was easy. The RGB controller comes with a sticky back and can be placed in any convenient spot in your case. The fans are direct replacements for any 120mm fans. Each fan has two leads, one to go to your motherboard’s fan headers and the other goes into the RGB controller. There are an additional two leads to the controller. One is from any SATA power plug and the other goes to one of the motherboards USB2 header.
Download the iCUE software from Corsair’s website and install it. You are then ready to light up your fans! I now have the iCUE software controlling my motherboard, RAM, water-cooler and case fans and it all works well together.
Overall, a really effective RGB fan set but I wish it was a bit cheaper.
