The keyboard is solid and has a good action. However, I think that it has a couple of issues, the main one being the programmble column of keys on the left hand side which I keep hitting instead of Escape – I think that the keys could have been better positioned. The other problem is the software which doesn’t seem to be that easy to use, and and seems to be the norm these days, there’s no user guide.
Keyboard is great so many custom effects, and battery life is fantastic
Initially I ordered a keyboard at the same time and wireless receivers interfeered one with the other driving me crazy. You can use only one receiver and all will work fine. The iCue software is clunky and difficult to use to begin with though. I am Corsair’s loyal customer and I was hoping for something a bit better.
Come on Corsair its 2023 and I know this keyboard didn’t come out this year but it’s the only wireless keyboard you sell that isn’t over 200.
Bad points
Not mechanical – I’ve come from a wired cherry MX red strafe mk 2 and I have to admit its taking me a while to get used to membrane
Not USB-C – everything these days is type C but this keyboard still uses micro usb to charge for some reason?
Not all areas of the keyboard light up – while the RGB is incredibly bright for a wireless keyboard, corsair have cheaped out by not including the multimedia keys and the corsair logo itself in the RGB.
Other than that my desk looks better now I’ve got rid of all the wires
So when I was looking for a new keyboard to replace my ancient (it was so old it kept going on about “Ze war!”) Logitech keyboard that decided to die, I wanted a few things.
First, something with an illuminated keyset – it gets stifling hot in the summer where I live and I like to work without lights on so I can open the window for whatever fresh air might be available without my room turning into a remake of Starship Troopers. Not being a touch typist, being able to see what the keys are is always helpful.
I also wanted some macro keys for… reasons. Don’t judge me! I can play games however I want! It’s totally not cheating…no, no, no!
Finally, it had to be wireless. I like to sprawl back in my chair. Wires are not conducive to that.
So after some searching I settled on this model. After some time using it, I can honestly say it is pretty decent as far as keyboards go.
Typing is fairly good, though the keycaps are a little “wobbly” when pressed, but you get used to that. Required effort to depress the keys is small and they have a positive feel about them despite the wobbliness.
Battery life is also pretty good. I can get several days general use out of the thing. I confess that I only use the RGB at night and then only as a static colour on the lowest intensity. I’m sure the battery life would not be anywhere as good if I was running it in full-on disco mode. But supposedly, that mode requires you to connect up the charging cable to run it, which defeats the whole wireless part, if you ask me.
As for the macros, they are simple enough to program and worked flawlessly for the times I needed them.
Other notes…
The aforementioned charging cable is of a decent length and is just long enough for me to maintain my “sprawl” when using the keyboard. But of course, it depends where your PC is in relation to you and where the USB ports are, of course.
There is an on/off switch on the back of the unit to help save battery life when not using your PC. The unit also powers off the RGB if left unused for a few minutes, which also helps. However, in the process of shutting off your PC at night, the lights might go out on your keyboard which may mean you forget to use the on/off switch on the back of the KB. I am always forgetting this but, fortunately, this did not appear to impact the battery life very much in practice, so clearly the main power hog is the RGB itself.
The “lights off” thing also seems to send the keyboard into a standby mode which can be irritating. Let’s say your just browsing, watching youtube, using your mouse etc. Then you need to google something. You click in the search bar and start typing, only to realise that the first 1 to 3 keypresses (depending on how fast you can type) have not registered because the keyboard was napping. That can be frustrating and it happens a lot unless you are constantly typing all day long. It would be easy to say “Just prod the keyboard and wait a moment before typing, but in practice you just don’t have that kind of awareness. So the frustration continues.
It IS possible to disable the standby mode if it aggravates you too much, but I’d rather have the battery life, so I am stuck with it.
More useful is the fact that you can also use the keyboard with up to three computers etc. via two additional bluetooth channels. A couple of key presses are all that is required to switch between different PC’s, making the keyboard a lot more useful than multiple keyboards or a KVM unit. The bluetooth takes a moment or two to connect, but then you are good to go typing on the second or third machine.
There are also multimedia buttons and volume/mute buttons top right which are nice, but hardly essential.
All in all I am pleased with the unit so far and it is doing fine after some six months of use. As I say, biggest gripe is the “typing whilst its asleep” thing. But its not a deal breaker.
Would I recommend it? Sure. Takes a bit of setting up but if you use it as I do, as a wireless, illuminated keyboard then it is fine. Serious gaming…maybe not via the bluetooth, though the main connection is RF and works reliably. Just remember if you stop for a few minutes you might need to poke it with a stick to wake it up before resuming.
All in all, quite a decent membrane keyboard.
EDIT after 2 years of use: Still going strong, though I have managed (due to mad gamer scrabbling at keys) to degrade the A and S keycaps somewhat, so a couple of new keycaps (or just a bit of enamel paint/varnish) may be required soon. The napping keyboard problem remains and has been joined by the “typing on one computer, whilst actually inputting on the other” irritation. I suppose I should be glad I don’t have three machines, or God knows what trouble I could get into typing the wrong thing to the wrong machine! Still, the KB itself still works flawlessly, so I am content.
Good keyboard for first time gaming, solid enough and better than a lot of other cheap guff sold on here. I’ve turned all the RGB off but that’s personal preference, looks tidy when turned on. Can be used as a wireless or wired keyboard and cable is a decent length. Macro keys super useful and easy to bind.
The first one I ordered the “e” key didn’t register at all, but the replacement one is working perfectly.
Great keyboard, love the lights and programmable buttons.
This keyboard is great, it does have a long life, a sleep mode to increase life and its handy to bring around the living room when watching someone on the tv, but I did deduct a star for 1 reason. Icue works with the keyboard on wireless mode but as is the same with other wireless corsair keyboaards, when in wireless mode, you can only select the preset profiles, no custom profiles im afraid.
Its beautifully made, easy to use and reliable. I like it very much, and the Icue system is amazing. However, be warned that this a gaming keyboard, and is not good for typing with! I still have to plug in my old keyboard to write!
The previous keyboard was a Corsair K55 RGB.
After many days of searching I bought the Corsair K57. It looks exactly like the previous one, it is wireless, very quiet and has RGB lighting on each key, it is fantastic !!
Great quality keyboard. Not mechanical but still feels very nice to type.
It’s slightly big for my sister but she doesn’t have much desk space so great for those who do have a lot of room.
She didn’t like the G1 keys on the left so she easily plucked them off.
Really nice keyboard to go with my RGB setup, especially as I run it with Icue.
Nice soft touch keyboard. I use it for typing rather than gaming as I have a separate half keyboard for that. I am not sure how much I’d like it for gaming.
I do think a little pricey for what it is AND the cord for charging at the back is terrible. It never looks like it is in properly and pops out regularly. They need to rethink how this cable attaches, a keyboard may get moved around a lot, especially if used for gaming.
Other than that. Fanstasic. 4.5 Stars really.
I had been looking for a decent durable gaming keyboard for years, and had never found perfection until, this one. Or so I thought. I had dabbled with expensive wired and wireless keyboards, and then gone the other way, opting for dirt cheap. None of these options really satisfied me until I got the K57 RGB.
The K57 is everything I wanted in a gaming keyboard. Bright lights, responsive keys, nice clickly clacky when typing and, it is wireless, so no rats nest of cables.
So if this keyboard is perfection, why only 4 starts. Well, it’s not quite perfection. The major weakness for me has been the battery life and the need to recharge virtually every other day. This leads to the major flaw in this keyboard. Other wirelss keyboards have always been battery powered with AAA batteries (rechargeable obvs). The K57 doesn’t. Instead it has a (micro/mini) USB port on the back which I plugged into my PC to charge. The only problem with this, which I found out today (7/2/2021) is that the usb port on the keyboard is not very durable. No cable will now fit in, so I am no longer able to charge the keyboard.
As an indicator of how much I like this keyboard, I have ordered the wired version to replace my current one.
Brought for my son’s gaming pc, chosen as I wanted a clean desk look. The keyboard feels very well put together and the lighting is a nice touch. The battery lasts a long time and very easy to charge, even with the lighting on max. Lighting can be adjusted with icue software to match your existing Corsair products.
Had a few drop outs which wasn’t ideal, we ended up placing an extension usb wire to the receiver to relocate, it’s been fine ever since. Only gripe is it the keyboard likes to go into “sleep” a little quicker then we’d like. Overall I’m impressed
Solid as a rock, dependable and the battery has great life to it. Not too bulky though, its just right.
The key presses are solid and responsive and the sound reflects the better quality of keys. It also has macro keys which I’m sure are great if you know how to use them as well as music and volume controls which are a godsend.
It also lights up, giving your set up that little bit of “oo-la-la”.
Really like this keyboard. The backlit colours are great and the iCue software has a lot of customisable features. One thing I would say is that the keyboard is a lot louder than I would personally like, but it has that good build quality feel to the whole design and the keys are quite tough/heavy – this is not a criticism, just a personal feel thing.
Ultimately this keyboard was returned unopened as I was having micro stuttering with the mouse and decided to return everything.
As a Corsair keyboard it is well built and featured and colourful, if that is your bag, but ultimately it is a good typing keyboard.
Really love this keyboard. I’m a bit of a sucker for anything with LED lights that make things look different. Theres a number of varied options to choose, with toggleable speeds and directions that the lights move. You can have the keyboard glow in a specific colour (limited to options, not HUE values) and this has been excellent for me. My girlfriend moved in with me during lockdown and as the PC is in the bedroom I can have a low level glow behind the keys to see what I’m typing if she’s trying to sleep. Keys are pretty quiet, but although I’m a touch typist I find myself regularly typing one letter to the left on my left hand, it’s a bit annoying but sure I’ll get used to is. I’m unsure if this is to do with the customisable macro buttons, which there are no instructions on what they’re actually capable of. Havent used these so far. All in all I’m very happy with my purchase.
Very nice keyboard, not silent but the clicks are quiet, nice solid feel when pressing the keys, not quite clicky but more clicky than squishy, perfect for me. Rgb brightness is adjustable and the rgb itself is very customisable, the 6 dedicated macro keys are a nice touch too. Only thing is there isn’t really any advantage to it being wireless, its too big to sit on your lap and you’ll have to plug it in to charge anyway
I love this product because:
1. Wireless & bluetooth – instant switching between THREE devices
2. Bright and vibrant RGB
3. The satisfying feel of typing (even though it’s not mechanical)
4. Great battery life
I can’t find immediate faults yet, and can’t speak to its durability at this point, but so far so good!
I purchased this mechanical keyboard as I was after a quiet touch keyboard, similar to a laptop experience. This is not that, it is a mechanical keyboard, but it is smooth and quieter than my previous one. So it fits the bill.
I was initially concerned around the height of the keys; they are slightly raised in order to allow the lovely lights to show under them. I was concerned enough that I’d considered returning this item. But I made the decision to remove the plastic and embrace it.
So far so good and haven’t looked back.
Positives:
Lights are awesome, just like the pics and are programmable
Keystrokes, whilst not silent, are ok (this is a mechanical keyboard, so I don’t know that silence is their forte
Programmable gaming keys, up to 50 keystrokes able to be recorded (I haven’t tried that many yet, I doubt I ever will, but it seems sufficient/excessive)
Cons
Maybe its my ergonomic orientation, but the left CTRL key is continually rubbing my left palm, not enough to be a problem but is noticeable. Right hand keys don’t have the same issue, so as a flat keyboard, its obviously my typing style, so that goes back to the above point around the keys are placed higher than I’m normally used to.
The G1-G6 gaming keys are on the LHS of the keyboard; this took some getting used to, as during gaming I would go to hit the ESC key but end up hitting the G1 key as it is at the top LHS; that will change in time I think as I get used to the layout.
The left shift key is not full key length, it is short. Personal habits have gotten me used to a full shift key, so I find I’m pushing a lot instead; I’m sure I’ll adjust in time.
Overall:
A beautiful keyboard, if you want to pay the money.
The lights look great, they’re bright enough but not distracting, and you can set up different styles of lighting
The keystrokes are solid, not flimsy (aka well made, thank you Corsair), so aside from the above, it is just like any other keyboard you may have purchased that has a similar flat ASDF layou
The keyboard itself is great. However, the iCUE software used to control the lighting is utter garbage and I do not recommend using it, which alas leaves your keyboard with rainbow lights. Worth buying if you can stand the fabulousness.
Very easy to setup and use, the buttons are a bit better than the k55 which I also have, I haven’t noticed and wireless latency and the quality is very good.
The shipping to Hungary was very smoothly, no issues with that at all.
About the Item it self:
you will defenelty get what is promissed (I read reviews, therefore caused no surprise). It is not a mechanical keyboard, but works totally fine for me, others can sleep next to me if so, and the feeling of the kaps and switches is still pretty nice. It requires some exersise on it, e.g. I’m still mixing up sometimes the G1 with ESC and G6 with CRTL, but I’m quite sure, if you had a keyboard with program buttons, it won’t be an issue for you, or if not, you’ll get use to it quite soon.
The battery life is nice, however I have to highlight, that the 35 hours is only with the lowest brightness, with the max it can run for 8 hours only. (during the day don’t really need the backlight, so no concers either). The backlighting effect are powerful, but wireless mode handles “only” 9 effect + 1 off setup. Using with cable allows you the personalise the effect as much as you want with the multiple layer of effects, e.g. constant backlighting with type lightning working together.
Corsair did a great job here!
