Crucial P3 4TB M.2 PCIe Gen3 NVMe Internal SSD – Up
Crucial P3 4TB M.2 PCIe Gen3 NVMe Internal SSD – Up to 3500MB/s – CT4000P3SSD8
- Typical I/O performance numbers as measured using CrystalDiskMark with command queue full and write cache enabled. Fresh out-of-box (FOB) state is assumed. For performance measurement purposes, the SSD may be restored to FOB state using the secure erase command. System variations will affect measured results.
- Some of the storage capacity is used for formatting and other purposes and is not available for data storage. 1GB equals 1 billion bytes. Not all capacities available at initial launch.

Easy to install.Silly me,removed riser from motherboard and had to reinstall m.2 again.Speed for loading games is obviously faster than my internal hardrive.these m.2 drives are accessible at the moment in terms of price so,no brainer.
This is a great ssd it is verry cheap for what you get. It also has performance that can compeat with some of the much higher end nvme ssd’s like samsungs. I would defiletly reccoment grabbing one of these. Still cant beleve how cheap they are.
The drive is excellent with a long warranty. The Acronis software is very easy to use but limited to clone Crucial drives only. Inside was an offer to buy the full version for 12 months with Antivirus etc for an almost giveaway price. I’m considering it as I’m impressed with the free version.
What kind of review can I write about a fast 1TB storage?
Its amazing how you can put 1024GB of data on such a small device! It can store the data of 754297 pieces of 3.5″ floppy! My Windows 3.1 is so quick thanks to this magical device!
I have been usind Crucial devices for a long time.
Great value and performance
Was a bit worried when ordering but this brand new Nvme SSD has been working fine in my 4 year old laptop. Actually my whole system is working faster now and in game travelling is much faster than before with my old hard drive.
saw the 2tb version on offer for just under 65 and could not resist
as i really need more storage for my game installs, music production, video capturing and editing needs
i have a msi b450 tomahawk max motherboard with a single m.2 slot and this was a breeze to install and setup, i already had my bios setup from a 512gb nvme so it was just a quick visit to disk manager in windows and a format and its ready for use, windows shows 1.81TB.
ran a quick crystal disk mark using the nvme option and 1GiB data size (see image) and speeds are what you would expect and seem a bit better apart from the first read of 3398.09 vs 3600 from a previous review here.
copying some data from a ssd gave around 500MB/s and a 7200rpm hdd 133mb/s which was maximum for those drives, now comes the slow laborious task of downloading a large game and installing !
very happy !
Very nice storage device; if you’re a programmer like me, you know you need the extra space for your side projects and main projects. It has made my life easier because of how much more information I can save on my computer.
Perfect expansion for my pc to allow me to dual boot different operating systems. Drive was detected without any issues on installation, and it was very fast to install additional drivers for things like graphics and external hardware.
It didn’t come with any kind of motherboard standoff so if you don’t already have one, you’ll need to buy this seperately
The package around the memory stick/chip was put to some form of preasure and has been clearly bended.
The not sure it the item is damaged or not, i did not have time to test it yet.
I am using this 1TB NVME in an external case via a10Gbps USB C connection, Speed stays relatively good until it has been filled a few times. At that point, I re-format, and the performance is back again. Nice cheap storage
using this as my secondary drive and i must say im very impressed. i heard some not so great things about crucial from friends but decided i wanted to have my own unbiased opinion and so far im impressed.
Best price on the market for the specs. High speed transfers and short booting time. Now I feel bad for not taking the 2tb or 4tb. Would definitelly recommend and surely will use in future builds.
My Dell laptop only had 256gb internal ssd M2 2230 nvme – not a lot of storage these days.
Decided after a long take to swap this out and replace with higher capacity M2 2280 NVME SSD (longer than original SSD) this was cheaper than a 1tb 2230. had to mess around with the settings to be able to install new windows 10 installation – but managed in the end now have loads of storage left over and pretty fast loading times. Got another 1tb 2280 ssd as my second drive now my laptop has 2tb capacity! These don’t have heatsinks but fixing screws, but seem to be working okay with heatsinks.
I use this to store a number of virtual instrument libraries, which gobble up space and also perform at their best when there’s a good read speed, which this delivers. I also use part of the drive as backup space for other programmes, documents etc.
It’s Crucial, which I trust, and has performed flawlessly so far. Be aware that you are unlikely to get a full 4 TB of storage. At the moment, split over 2 drives, I’m Getting a total of 3.64TB of useable space.
Bought to upgrade the internal SSD on a Dell All-in-one desktop.
Easy to install provided that you are confident in dismantling a computer, it’s important to follow anti-static procedures.
The provided software quickly cloned the existing SSD and and following installation all was well. Boot speed is a tad faster and additional storage space is useful.
Would recommend using the Crucial website to check compatibility prior to purchase.
Crucial has carved out a nice segment of the SSD market for those looking for high capacity storage who don’t necessarily need the fastest performance. This drive is very much in that market segment, delivering reads and writes at “only” about 2.6 gigabytes per second. Newer drives running on the Gen 4 and 5 standards are almost exponentially faster, but 4 terabytes of capacity in drives that fast are prohibitively expensive for this YouTuber who works out of his basement.
For many if not most consumers Crucial’s performance is more than adequate for the task. Even at these sub 3GB/sec speeds this drive performs significantly faster than any mechanical drive out there and is not much more expensive.
It’s also a good pairing option for some of those USB-C DIY enclosures where the more expensive NVME drives would be overkill.
Yes, I’ve now bought three of these Crucial P3 drives (for less than 40 each, it’s rude not to!). I’ve used 2 in two, 2015 Macbook Pro’s (via a cheap 6 M2 adapter). Worked first time & really pleased how fast they are compared to Apple’s original, especially for 1TB of storage! I’ll definitely buy again if needed (unless Crucial have any spare ones they don’t need!). Thank you, I really am delighted with them.
I installed this in my Lenovo Legion 5 15ACH6H and honestly, I’m really happy with the storage. This review will be short because it all depends on the laptop/PC/hardware your installing it in, but for me it was really easily installable (as my laptop was built for upgradable storage). Opening my laptop up (was difficult but that’s nothing to do with this storage), and installing the storage was quite simple thanks to the guides provided by iFixit. 4 months of use of the NVMe SSD and I’ve had zero problems. I’ve never had a problem with Crucial personally and hope they continue to be a reliable and affordable place to get storage 🙂
Crucial are a reputable brand, and the price is good. Data size might disappoint some, but 930Gb usable is par for the course for a 1Tb disk. It was to upgrade a 250Gb SATA SSD.
I was ready to use a low level cloning utility, but a downloadable one provided by Crucial worked fine.
Main issue was getting my computer to recognise the disk – a bit of BIOS tweaking and driver updating was required, but now it’s working well.
As I upgraded from a 250GB SATA SSD to 1Tb M.2 NVMe, I think it’s a bit faster as well as having more spare space, but it’s not the amazing difference I got when moving from hard disk to SSD.
I’d been wanting an SSD for years but couldn’t justify the cost of a 1gb drive. But when the prime sales came up it looked more agreeable.
This is relatively easy to install and will fit into the M2 slot on your motherboard. Ignore the pci-e ports or it will be flapping in the wind ready to cause trouble. I did have to remove and refit my graphics card to fit this but that’s no huge burden and is easier than faffing with sata cables and routing.
You will have to carry out an initial format before use to prep the drive. Depending on your plans and what Operating system you are using / installing will depend on how it’s done. I was using windows 10 so went to computer management> disc management and prepared new simple drive. After formatting I then did a clean install of Windows 11 from usb stick. If you are switching from a conventional HDD to SSD you will have to go into the bios and change your boot order and a few other settings (just search YouTube for the name of your motherboard and enable SSD). There are lots of guides available. There is quite a bit of support documentation on the crucial site but it is basic and going under the idea of everything in ideal condition.. and of course your OS behaving.
I setup a partition for a few 100gb for the OS and the rest as a secondary drive for games. What a difference! My pc now boots up in seconds instead of minutes.i often click the power button on the base unit and look up to say “what? Already? That can’t be it.I was gonna go grab a cuppa.”
Stability is excellent and instead of loading things are just available. There’s no waiting or buffering.it’s just there ready. This really has made a world of difference. The only negative is that it will show you how slow your internet speeds are.
Good quality and value. highly recommend. Thank you for reading my review. I hope you found it useful
Bought this as I had a 4TB Sata drive installed as drive D and it used to drive me nuts waiting for it to spin up to access, so I bought this as a straight replacement. Fitted easily and once all the files were copied over I removed the 4TB Sata drive. I know we’re only talking seconds here but it’s so much better! As long as it’s compatible with your machine, can’t recommend highly enough! Got 2 spare slots so might even buy another!!!!
I tried to upgrade MacBook pro 2015 internal SSD but I was unsuccessful. After replacing the original SSD with this Crucial 4TB, MacOS cannot detect it (a question mark when booting). However, when it is used as an external with MacOS Monterey installed on it, the SSD worked just fine. I could perform all computer activities without any problems. It would be great if I can use this Crucial 4TB as an internal SSD for my MacBook. So, I will not relay on any USB cable or SSD enclosure
It is cost-effective and the brand is guaranteed. Although the reading and writing speed is not fast, it is enough for me.
For the price can go wrong. Not had long enough to see if it is reliable long term but no issues so fa
Works well so far at advertised speed for a month or so. Time will tell if it’s quality, but so far so good
Great SSD, installation of M.2 is simple, it comes with a screw as well. Capacity is as advertised. My motherboard doesn’t support Gen4 so this is the best speed I can get anyway.
Ideal item. Much faster than my standard ssd which i replacesd. Easy to install. Super fast. There are faster newer models of this but this is ideal. Used for OS and gaming.
“I am extremely satisfied with the Crucial P3 1TB M.2 PCIe Gen3 NVMe Internal SSD. The read and write speeds of up to 3500MB/s are impressive, significantly boosting my system’s performance. The sleek black colour adds a stylish touch. It’s a reliable and high-performing SSD that I highly recommend for anyone looking to upgrade their storage solution.”
Compatible with Sintech NGFF M.2 nVME SSD Adapter Card For Upgrade 2013-2015 MacBook no issues at all. It has given a second life to an old Macbook Air Late 2014 and now goes fresh as new & way more storage than originally (128GB)
I purchased this for my laptop, but it wouldn’t work. Not the SSD’s fault, purely my laptop motherboard not accepting this particular specification. It did have (two) NVME slots but not all NVME SSDs are compatible with all laptops as I found to my cost when researching it later.
However, my son needed to upgrade the SSD in his (more modern) gaming desktop and this high-capacity SSD worked perfectly for him. It has sufficient speed for his needs. Excellent value. A 1TB SSD, faster than SATA, for well under 100! We wouldn’t have believed it 5 years ago…
My first Crucial P3 1TB M.2 PCIe Gen3 NVMe Internal SSD, very easy to install, it was a great value for money, time will tell on it’s longevity.
I’ve been needing more storage for a while now and the value preposition here is great!
1tb for what… 50 – 60.
100% recommend.
Also for comparison I paired it up against another SSD which actually is about the same read and write speed but the there only real difference is the price.
It’s early days but the 1TB P3 appears to be an excellent purchase.
What does P3 stand for? So long as it is reliable I’d say Pretty Fast, Pretty Well Made and Pretty Great Value For Money at 46 (although Amazon appear to be selling them at around40 now).
Time will tell regarding reliability as with all drives but read and write speeds are impressive at this price point and the low power consumption doesn’t put a strain on the PSU which is a bonus.
I’m using it as a storage drive with a Crucial MP510 being my OS drive but I can’t see any reason this couldn’t be used as a ‘C’ drive if needed however maybe a drive with a longer guarantee might be preferable if you can afford one.
I had about 5GB of storage for about 6 months, finding anything to delete to get more storage. Eventually I took the plunge and got some more storage, it had changed my life, faster load times, never deleting a game to download a new one, you gotta get you one of these
Great little NVME drive, great capacity for a more than reasonable price. Can’t vouch for Gen 4 NVMEs but Gen 3 Ones are still very adequate for what I personally use them for (Mostly online gaming and some college work).
These units are really fast compared to conventional hard drives and ordinary SSD drives too.
At current prices, they are much more cost effective than they were a few years ago when I first got my computer and paid 150 for a 500MB one.
They are efficient, speedy and much less likely to break than mechanical drives so keeping your data safe whilst also giving great performance upgrades.
I have a Samsung one and another premium make and this performs no less efficiently, so its excellent for value and performance.
Easy to install for relatively inexperienced users.
First things to get out of the way, is the fact that I’m installing this on an ROG Strix B550-F Gaming motherboard, in the second NVMe slot–which runs at PCIe 3.0 x4. All necessary BIOS updates and drivers done.
I decided to grab this NVMe because I was running low on storage, and figured it was worth grabbing another 2TB SSD, and originally I was going to go for a Crucial MX500 2TB. That is, until I noticed, at the time of purchasing this gem–it going for about 20 cheaper. It was pretty much a no brainer at that point–and so I could use the WD Blue SN570 1TB which this replaced, I grabbed a PCIe 3.0 x1 card too–but that’s not going to be a part of the this review.
Installation:
As with NVMe drive, the beauty of it, is that it’s just super easy and it feels surreal to me still that you just have this tiny cute stick you can slot in like a stick of RAM, screw it down, and away you go. But I also have the heatsink that comes with the ROG Strix B550-F Gaming sitting atop of this.
Speeds:
I’ll be throwing in benchmarks from Crystal Disk Mark, and will be comparing it to one of its 4.0 counterparts, the P5 1TB. As you can see it falls a bit short of that 3500MB/s for reads, but still pretty damn close, and slightly better than the advertised writes. But if you have some kind of RAM Disk or RAM caching software such as ASUS’ RAMCache III–that’s going to give you a bit of a boost.
Not the fastest PCIe 3.0 NVMe out there, possibly the second or third. But it’s still a snappy drive, and worth the pennies.
I bought this to replace 2 SSDs on my Debian PC. It was easy to fit. I used Clonezilla Live to clone the SATA SSD holding my operating system to this new M.2 disk, then removed the old SATA SSD and rebooted. All good. Then I used rsync to copy all data from the second USB 3.0 SSD (used for Steam storage and VMs) to a new partition on the M.2. Again, all good. It was all amazingly speedy and there were no issues.
Write speeds are excellent. I don’t know the size of the cache on these but it must be enormous. I tested write speed with cache enabled and copied 100 GiB to the M.2:
“dd bs=1M count=102400 if=/dev/zero of=/home/julian/Games/test.img status=progress ;sync”
result:
“107374182400 bytes (107 GB, 100 GiB) copied, 31.4855 s, 3.4 GB/s”
31 seconds to copy 100GiB is fine! That’s on XFS filesystem btw.
With the cache totally disabled (running dd with oflag=dsync) the write speeds drop to about 290 MB/s but in real life the cache is so huge that unless you’re copying terabyte size files then this is unlikely to ever arise.
I didn’t measure read speeds but in practise I get massively quicker start up times for my Windows 10 virtual machine, and I find the really big Steam games load much more quickly.
There are newer generation M.2 disks which support PCIe Gen4 but my board is PCIe Gen3 and I think this disk actually performs as well as is possible for a Gen3. Overall this seems like a really good product which meets its specifications.
Bought 2 of these p3 crucial m.2 drives one for my O.S. and another for games, slotted both of them into the motherboard and formatted them both and so far they have worked perfectly, I did buy a heatsink for the 1tb version just to keep it cool as the motherboard only had one heat plate but so far so good 🙂
Crucial imo make some of the best SSD drives also Micron who make the chips for these drives make some of the best, I have 4 crucial drives so far and they have all worked flawlessly 1 of them being over 4 years old now and still over 95% health again, used primarily for gaming and the operating system (Windows 11)
Highly recommended and currently at a good price too.
The first time I bought an SSD, it was a 500GB Crucial MX SATA 3 drive, and it cost about 120. Granted, this was some years ago, but it’s incredible how much the prices have come down at what great value this 1TB drive at roughly 50 represents.
2tb HDDs go for about 50 now, so this is now only about twice the price of a mechanical disk, at over 10x the performance and a fraction of the physical size and weight. CrystalDiskMark shows sustained reads of just under 3.4GB/s, and writes of just over 3.1GB/s – pretty damn impressive and around what was advertised, and fairly respectable randoms.
Windows 11 boots within 20 seconds – basically by the time my monitor’s turned on and I’ve put my hand on my keyboard and mouse, I’m ready to type the password. No issues here, nor with opening programs etc – everything feels snappy.
I think the only thing that could be improved is if this drive had a dram cache, but that’s definitely a more premium feature. I would prefer it too if the great value 1tb carried through to the 2tb pricing, which is something like 20% more cost per GB at current pricing.
