I got the 720W model, and while it’s perfectly able to protect my PC during power outages, it can’t do it for long. As soon as it cuts over to battery power, the battery life drops from 100% to 60%, and the run time cuts down just as much. And this is with it running at around 100W, well below rated capacity. With even a bit of load, around 300-400W, the runtime is so short that it begins to shut my PC down as soon as it detects an outage.

Other than that I’ve had no issues. It has protected my PC and PS5 through multiple outages, and I’ve had no issues with it being simulated sine wave. It’s been good, but it would be better if the battery could realistically last more than 15 minutes under any real load.

We had a run of minor power interruptions that were enough to make our router reset – this keeps the power steady through these and longer – a good investment for home workers.

It beeps when the power is off which I think got it to stop doing.

Well made, the USB charger is great as your phone will generally be nearly dead when the power goes out (Murphy’s Law). Compact and you know how much run time you have. Cable managent keeps things tidier too. Really good.

I am using this to keep power to my network modem, WiFi access point and NAS. Connecting it to my NAS for auto-shutdown was a doddle.

It seems to do the job. When it switches to battery on a mains failure it starts a high-pitched whining, I guess because of the stress on the battery. It kept the equipment going nicely and the timer for NAS shutdown kicked in. Since power was restored before that timer expired I don’t know if the NAS would cleanly shut down, but I expect it would.

With this combination of devices the UPS expects to be able to provide power for about 48 minutes. I guess the modem and access point will keep going long, assuming the NAS shuts down after a shorter interval.

    All in all, not bad.

The battery could last longer but I am running a WiFi hub, PS4, PS4 VR module, and tv off it and it lasts longer than our power cuts as we have 30 second ones regularly especially in winter so

summery it does the job well as long as no power cuts longer than 30mins

Running 2 synology NAS drives now and I got nervous about talks of powercuts etc. So I installed this and 3 weeks later an overfilled kettle spat water at its socket and tripped all the fuses. The battery kicked in and shut down the NAS safely. Very happy indeed.

The UPS was easy to install and has run without any issues to date. I used the supplied USB cable to link it to a Synology NAS which recognised the UPS immediately. In addition to the NAS, I have my internet router and DECT handset plugged into the three UPS sockets. The display on the UPS indicates a run time of 120mins although I’d expect a little longer in practice as I have my NAS configured to perform a clean shutdown after a power failure leaving just the router and handset to run on battery. I’ve only had one power outage of 20mins since purchasing the UPS but everything went as planned with the NAS completing its orderly shutdown and the router and handset continuing to work without interruption.

Like many, I am now working from home permanently. I needed a UPS solution, but didn’t want/couldn’t afford the high-end options. Similarly, the value end of the market is largely unfit for purpose. This, however, is the perfect balance between the two. Has been working well for months now, saved me a couple of times during power cuts. It doesn’t get hot, which is good. On the noise front it isn’t silent, there’s a very faint hum on occasion but I’ve totally filtered that out now. Hugely flexible and versatile, great value for money for the home worker.

Has already been used in anger after storm Eunice sent a tree through the power cables. Worked perfectly. I haven’t configured it for auto shut down. This model will power the pc for 15 to 20 mins which is more than good enough for a controlled manual shut down.

After having a few power cuts during the latest round of storms, often for just a few seconds, I decided to buy a new UPS, as the old one kept wanting a new battery. I decided on this one, as the display is quite handy, showing how much charge it has, and various other bits of info.

So far it’s survived 3 brief power cuts, keeping the PC up and running the whole time.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI bought this UPS to keep a Mac Mini 2012 and it’s external hard drive protected in the event of a power loss. I went for a lower total watts CyberPower model for cost as the Mac Mini doesn’t draw that much power (max around 86W and that’s on full load). The battery is preinstalled so you don’t have to connect any of the battery terminals up before use.

This CyberPower model seems to have a low audible hissing sound when it’s charging the battery on AC power which is a minor annoyance, when it is switched to battery only, it goes away. It also seems to be less audible when the battery is fully charged.

Googling for the PowerPanel Personal software for Mac has a very old version appearing in the top results, you should go to cyberpower.com website and their download centre directly and get the latest version. The version that seems to come up on Google is v1.10, which is very old and seems to be from 2018, this is for older MacOS versions pre 10.14. The newer version has a lot more features and is much newer. The software does seem quite good, it allows you to configure a variety of options as well as email alerts or through their cloud app, but email alerts are fine for me. Their cloud app isn’t free by the looks of it. The estimated runtime reported by the software seems a bit wild, it is tied relative to the wattage being used, but mine jumps around between a very wide estimate between 40-113 minutes! Granted this is being based on the current power draw which will vary when the Mac Mini or external hard drive calls for more or less power when idling.

This UPS is also supported with Apple’s native UPS software implementation through System Preferences > Energy Saver > UPS. It is immediately detected by plugging in the USB cable to the UPS. It will lack some of CyberPower’s software features such as alerts/notifications and other advanced configurations, but you can configure an automatic shutdown option without CyberPower software being installed if you don’t want to install the software.

The display on the UPS is nice but ironically during a power loss you’d want to avoid using it as that’s just going to drain the battery quicker! (although the power draw of the LCD should be relatively low). It’s much easier to monitor via software.

I’ve done a couple of pretend power failures by turning off the power at the wall socket and everything works fine, switching between AC to battery, audible alarm when on battery etc. I also performed the self test and confirmed OK.

The battery capacity was near full at 90% when received, so needed a bit more of a charge before being fully charged.

Being used to provide temporary power for our FTTP broadband connection during short power cuts. Good so far and has also enough power sockets for our Sky Q box too.
Should be some time before needing a new battery hopefully but for reference the original battery is: Leoch DJW12 7.2 (12V, 7.2AH).

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent UPS

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersSo an important measure of backup devices is their Watt-hour capacity so you can calculate how long they will power devices of a given wattage. Altho this 700 model says 420w, that just its max power output for an unstated duration. In fact I’ve discovered it houses a “djw12-7.2”, 12v 7Ah battery, which theoretically gives a 127=84Wh ability, but in practice likely somewhat less – lets say 80Wh. So it should be able to power a 80W device for 1hr, or a 40W device for 2hrs etc. However the documentation suggests only around half this ie “a 90W device for 28mins” so its only actually capable of around 45Wh, bear this in mind when working out what it can power for how long.

What can I say. It’s not had to kick in. Which is interesting. Because we constantly had to do the breakers. Since I fitted this in just one bedroom the electric has not tripped. I did test the item by physically shutting the breaker down. And I checked the Tv, PlayStation & Sky box and router. All good no interference in power.

Great product only issue (which I knew going in) is that half the plugs are only surge protection so wasn’t enough power for router, WiFi, switch and server but there is more then enough capacity to split one of the plugs and the usb server shutdown works perfectly.

Takes normal UK 3 pin plugs which is great for me. Have 2 Synology nas plugged in with one hooked up to the usb so it can communicate.

As soon as the cyberpower ups detects a power failure it sends a message to the nas via usb.
You can set up the Nas to power down according and safely. I have also setup the lead nas to tell the second nas to auto shutdown via ip in the settings.

Great ups with 3 pin plugs.

Given how many of us work from home and rely on internet connection to conduct heir business, I had to get two of those to ensure uninterrupted operation of my router and network in general. those are serving 2 routers and a repeater, a security camera and the landline wireless phone. very happy with performance so far. have tested the time to support the devices and it appears it can do so for ~40mins before the alarm goes off. More than enough time to cover power surge and short power outages.
What I don’t like is the hiss that it emits when operating on battery and wish it had more robust charging options controls via the desktop app such as the option to NOT keep it charged to 100% all the time or the ability to discharge at regular times to maintain the battery better.
Overall I am happy with this purchase of two of those to protect my network equipment.

Not sure why I have to rate thickness or sheerness??

It’s a good compact powerful battery backup which has proved itself already. Not necessarily a cheap item but competitive for the power it offers and it has a replaceable battery (unlike the APC equivalents).

Works very well with the supplied software and with NUT on linux server. Only issue is that the configuration (eg level to alert that the battery is low) can only be changed with the supplied software.
Quite a loud buzzing sound when running on battery, particularly under load.
The first one I recieved the battery was only half capacity due to dead cells. Upon contacting customer services they got me to do a lamp test to confirm the fault and sent a replacement unit with no quibbles at all. Can’t fault them.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersLooking around for a cheap UPS’S device to shut down The Synology DS220j Nas I came across this Ups’s device , the 700VA/420W, the only thing that made me hesitant in purchasing this device was the fact I could not find any information regarding shutting down a NAS with it, other more expensive UPS’S from the same brand name made a point saying it would shut down/ be compatible with a Nas drive.

Took the gamble and its paid off, work a charm after testing after the battery was full charged, Shut down the Nas and the cctv system correctly.

I was not going to get a UPS’S due to the extra expense, but then thought if i get a power cut it would be just my luck it would take out a hard drive or at worst the whole Nas system.

I have set the Nas to go into safe mode after 4 minutes, then turn off the UPS’S, just with the Nas attached I could get approximately 3 hours of run time if needed, Then after putting the cctv and its 6 HD cameras on it I could get 40 minutes of run time on the UPS’S battery, which I thought was cool.

I could have gone for a bigger system, but personally I thought what’s the point it does what it was intended to do, which is protect the Nas from power surges, and power cuts and shut it down safely.

A recommended purchase if you have valuable information on your Nas drive you want to help keep safe.

If the information about being compatible with a Nas system is in the literature is on the Amazon site for this Make and model I couldn’t see it.

Work well with Synology Ds 220j

The unit is quiet, easy to use and has the option of protected and unprotected outlets.
I would like the outlets to be switched. The outstanding time when in supply mode is not accurate for very small loads.

The total Ah rating of the battery is not given, so its hard to judge how long a load will survive in advance.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersHaving just bought a new NAS and then suffered a power cut I suddenly became excited for the first time in my life about uninterruptible power supplies.

I was trying to decide between this and a similar looking option from APC. There are two reasons I chose this one. The first is I needed a data cable to connect to NAS so I could safely shut down and monitor the UPS. The APC model appears to not provide the cable and reviews say you currently can’t get one for months. This comes with a cable, and it’s a standard USB instead of rj45 to USB so you are more likely to have spares hanging around.

The second point is I wanted the option of changing just the battery. I think the APC can buts it not an official user replaceable item. This does seem to have that (though I can’t comment on availability).

So, you get a UPS with 6 standard 3 pin sockets. 3 provide surge protection and battery backup, the other 3 are just surge.

In terms of wattage I have a synology nas, an iMac and a router plugged in and it says load is around 12% so plenty of headroom. I’ve tested turning the power off multiple times and it works perfectly. After about 20 minutes running on battery I still had about 60% battery left, so I’ve set everything to shutdown after 10 on the basis I should survive a couple of back to back cuts.

Now the great news is a few days ago I had an actual power cut, and it all worked flawlessly.

I’d highly recommend this but on balance there are a few negatives
    – it’s pretty big. It uses old large and heavy battery technology. I’d like to see lithium batteries used in these kind of things which would give more power for less weight.
    – only one data port. I’d like to have seen a couple since you will probably have more than one item connected. However I’ve set my NAS as a UPS server which warns the Mac. If you need this set up I recommend UPS power guard (search the App Store) to easily configure and monitor
    – running on battery is really noisy. Small thing though as you wouldn’t be doing that except when power was cut

All in all I’d by this agai

Golden Review Award: 13 From Our UsersHaving renovation works going on whilst working from home, means the electrics sometimes get tripped, so I decided to go down the UPS route.

I’ve been so impressed with the first one (bought elsewhere), that this is the second one of these I’ve bought.
The first one is now used to power my server and backup servers. Although 600W output, not that most PCs if idling don’t actually use up anywhere near that power, so I was able to power 2 file servers off it.
This one is used to power my PC, 3 monitors, BT smarthub router and network switches (using a 4 way extension lead plugged in even though not recommended).
I simulated a power cut by turning it off at the switch and it simply switches over to battery mode, with a predicted around 30 minutes of run time and when PC idling, was running at around 11% output capacity.
When running on battery, the device does make a humming noise and emit a loud beep every minute. So worth being aware of. I think you can disable the beep noise.
When power is restored, the UPS detects it and switches back over to mains power.
The unit itself is really heavy due to the battery, so be aware of that.
What I do like is that there is a USB port on the side which can be connected to a PC’s USB socket with supplied cable. Once connected Windows 10 automatically see the computer like a laptop with a battery which is charging/running on battery power. This means once the power fails, you can use power settings to make your computer run slower to conserve battery, and like a laptop, shutdown the PC in a controlled fashion if the battery capacity runs low.

    Pros
    – 3 UK plug sockets (not kettle sockets), means no needing to buy extra kettle adaptors, and also things like router power plugs fit in no problem.
    – Has 3 additional surge protection sockets
    – Has RJ11 pass through to surge protect your phone line if you wish
    – Has a USB socket to charge devices
    – Has a USB port to let a computer know when backup power has kicked in

    Cons
    – Would be good if there were 2 USB ports to let 2 computers know when backup power has kicked in

Summary: Overall I’m super impressed with this UPS unit, and love the fact it takes standard UK plugs. For my usage, the 600W, at 97 at time of review is the sweet spot in price, and I have no hesitation in recommending this for anyone who wants to be able to still carry on working on their PC after a power cut even if it’s just so you can save your work!

Great for sudden powerloss. So good this is the second one I've bough
