Recently noticed a leak above a bedroom window so thought I’d get a cheap drone to be able to quickly inspect the roof. Was perfect for the job. It could comfortably fly to the roof of our three storey townhouse and take this photo to show the slipped tiles. Battery doesn’t last long but was more than enough for what I wanted to use it for.

Perfect for checking the roof and gutters

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI tried a few other mini drones and they were pretty useless, uncontrollable, unstable. Even though this does not come with a controller for precision flying, the Tello app is good. Quality item as expected from DJi.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis drone is simply amazing, from being very stable to having the best camera for the price. As shown in the pictures, this drone is amazing for those who wanna take photos in the air at a low price, it would be nice though if you got a couple extra battery’s considering it is 100 as each battery gets me just over 8-9 minutes of battery life other than that though it’s a great drone and great fun to fly!

update: make sure to stock up on propellers as they come off pretty easily and it gets very hard to find them

    Great for beginners!

Although the video camera is only 720P it takes better pictures than a cheap higher resolution camera.
One thing I’ve noticed is it really likes sunlight and not the energy efficient LED in my house. It doesn’t even need to be much light. You may perceive the room as well lit because the room lights are on, but adjust open a curtain a bit to make it happy. Haven’t found out which frequency it likes, but it’s not warm white LED, as that is what I have.
In the sunlight over a variable pattern it really will just hover indoors. It’s almost creepy. Don’t think the battery lasts as long as they say though. Haven’t measured it though. On sale on Chinese websites, as are battery chargers.

This was a return product and was highlighted as marks on top. This was barley noticeable and far less than description indicated.

Important note if using drone with an android device before pairing turn on flight mode then enable wifi and the drone pairs without issue. I experienced problems until I found this solution. No problem with iphone.
You will need to buy additional battery and separate charger as can only be charged in device with a flight time of 13min and charger time of 90min this is a must.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’d been pondering getting a drone for a while but was my interest enough to fork out a hundred quid or more to give one a try?
Well, the short answer was no but then I spotted one of these at 65 from Amazon Warehouse and that was worth a go.
    It’s tiny!
It’s also very light in weight.
So, my first go was indoors and I found it easy to connect to the app and fly. Stability and controllability was absolutely fine. Battery life, not so good. I reckon I got about 10 minutes so if I was going to make a lot of use of it, that would be another 40 for a couple of batteries. However, I’m not…
This afternoon I gave it a try outdoors.
Although I have a fairly sheltered garden there was a light breeze and the drone seemed to cope pretty well at low level. However, while my garden isn’t all that big, I found I was losing connection with the drone and despite the instruction manual stating that ‘Failsafe protection enables Tello to land safely even if you lose connection’, it doesn’t land, it hovers – unless the wind gets to it in which case, with a strong breeze, you can wave farewell to your drone as it disappears over the horizon.
So, not much range, though that could be down to my mobile; poor flight time and best only use indoors or outside on the one windless day a year that we get in the UK.
Ok, what did I expect for the price?
Well, not much so I’m not complaining and I have to say that when you first set it up and press that take off button, the sight of this little thing rising into the air and hovering was rather impressive!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersGreat out of the box. Easy to use, easy to learn, and the controls are almost 2nd nature to anyone with a games console. Only problem I found is it’s ability to cope with any wind at all. Even a sparrow farting whilst flying past causes the drone problems. Up here in the Northern Isles of Scotland if there is no wind there are midges. Although fun flying the drone through the midge clouds, it doesn’t do much good for the image quality!

Great teaching drone for indoors or spaces with zero wind and no midges!

Golden Review Award: 16 From Our UsersGreat little drone that lives upto DJI reputation although it is made by Ryze but powered by DJI ,This is my first ever drone and very pleased with it so far.You can programme this drone to carry out instructions as per code if you know how to do it.Picture quality is great for the price ,video quality not upto the mark but still good enough for a first timer beginner who like to learn flying and exploring different modes. You can install other apps forexample TELLO FPV and TELLOME which are paid apps which can unlock its full potential. If you want to test the limits and take great shots ,try using Wifi extender ,in my case i use xiaomi miwifi but be extra careful this little drone is not made to fly in high winds, not even light winds ,it can drift away very easily due to its small form factor and weight. For flying higher than 10 meters ,big ground, field or area is recommended .Video sometimes get choppy at heights this is basically due to signal interference forexample nearby electrical boards, surrounding wifi,You can get best out of it in an open field where there is no electrical intereference, wifi extender does help alot if used properly kept at a small distance from phone and a little higher than ground level.
Overall a very good little drone for the price offered ,Get extra batteries as you wouldnt want to run out of juice in the middle of fun flying ,a full charge offers roughly 10 mins of flight.I would fully recommend who is new to drone arena and get the taste how it feels like and decide whether it is your thing or not.

Drone that lives upto expectation of DJI

Was bought as a birthday present for a 12 year old but was so easy to use it could easily be handled by a younger child. Looks really good in the iron man colours. The children were impressed by the app which gives step by step instructions and has missions as a way to teach handling. Overall excellent purchase.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersHaving bought and not enjoyed a Snaptain S5C,I found the Ryze Tello to be such a revelation. It’s an extremely accomplished, tiny and well-designed drone.

Very easy to use, very stable for its size and easy to use for photos or short videos. Connectivity is simple, the app is excellent and the potential for further enhancement is there too; WiFi extenders, cases, batteries, third party apps, programmable routines….. I’ve only scratched the surface in 6 days of ownership but I’ve used in in windy, drizzly weather and it’s worked out great.

I only wish I’d heard of this drone sooner!

Amazing drone… I did some research online for a small drone suitable for my lad
Its spot on only downfall is the slightest wind knocks it about and also no controller.

With the DJI flight technology this is going to be the best entry into drone usage. It responds well and takes great pics and decent video. Just bear in mind its so light that even a breeze will blow it away so its not terrific unless incredibly calm.

Perfect for a beginner. Very compact and easy to fly with the phone app. It has the preset options of flying stents (hop/360 rotation and make a circle – all with video making). You can lock the maximum height.

Propeller protectors should be used all the time to keep it safe.
Doesn’t work in low light – so difficult to capture a pic or video at night time. Stability is an issue in strong winds. Battery life is 12-13 minutes.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is an amazing drone to start out with. It’s really easy to fly and to get to grips with drone controls. The only downside is the battery which is rather small in capacity at 1,100 mAh which only lasts around 7 to 12 minutes depending on whether you just fly which takes less power or do stunt flips which then lowers the battery far faster.

All in all I don’t regret my purchase as a beginner to drones and this will help improve my skills and progress onto higher quality drone flying in the future

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersNever flown a Drone before, the Iron Man app guides you through the basics with little step by step missions to complete. Battery flight time about 10 mins is a little low, but I would guess the more time I get used to it, the quicker I can control what I want it to do instead of looking at the screen controls scratching my head, plus extra batteries are not too expensive. Overall very happy

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersGreat little drone. It verges the gap between toy and high end consumer drones. Using the same flight controller as DJI drones means that you can use this to learn to fly without the worry of a high expense drone, which is what I used it for. The drone is fairly stable using its sensors to hold its position and stop it from hitting the ground but it has no sensors on the front or top so will still be able to hit the roof or a wall.
The camera isn’t the highest quality but for the price you cannot complain.
The battery I have found tends to last about 10 minutes of canstant flying and will recharge to full in about an hour.
I would recommend this to anyone who wants to learn to fly drones or has a kid asking for a drone. It can be used outdoors in light winds

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersHaving bought and been disappointed with quite a few unbranded drones due to their all round poor performance, I thought I’d step things up a bit. I wasn’t quite ready to commit to spending large sums on something I might lose in a field, over a fence or in the sea but I thought this particular drone was worth a try.

First impressions were good – the main body of the drone seems pretty solid while the rotors and guards were also well attached. Like many of the lower end ones, you connect it to an app – though in this case the app actually seems to have plenty of functionality and connecting it wasn’t too difficult. Controllers are available too that link bank to the app, though for starters the drone with the phone was enough for me.

As soon as you launch the drone into the air you can easily see the difference too versus the lower end editions. The on board technology actually keeps the drone stable without having to do major corrections, while the ability to return and land the item works well too. Given it’s size the picture is fine, but not great and the performance in high winds could be improved but these feel like what I’d expect to be committing a lot more for. Once you’ve brought it down, batteries can be switched over (they lasted around 10 mins in my experience) and the whole thing can be charged with micro USB.

So is it worth the extra over the other lower end drones that are out there? For me the answer is very much definitely a yes – I’ve been genuinely impressed with how much can be packed into this small package.

A friend of mine recommended this drone to me and I’m very impressed with it, its pretty stable and easy to fly in and out of buildings, the picture and video quality is great too.

I LOVE this little drone! Indoors it’s perfect and it’s even great outside. Took it our recently and was amazed at how well it keeps in place even when the wind is trying to blow it away. For a little drone it’s amazingly good. Great to learn with, and far easier to fly than any of my other drones.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersFirst impression is good.

Drone stays in the place (other cheap drones just go in random directions).
Flight time is acceptable for the price – I consider buying more batteries.

I had a problem with video (not right colours), but it was due to the app compatibility with my old phone.
I used also additional apps (atello) to control drone via PS4 controller. This can save money. Also on this app the vide is OK on my old phone.

The drone itself is nice. To compare with cheap drones (30-50) it looks impressive: quality

I did many flights at home – no good weather at the moment.
Many reviews show that wind can be a problem – so be aware of it.
Also don’t fly over the water, you can easily lost the drone.

I will update review after more usages.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersFairly easy to setup, iworks well with my current apple iOS devices. Camera quality is pretty good, the still camera is very good if used when th drone is stationary, likewise for the video camera. Quality drops when the taking picnics/ vids when the drone is moving. It uses digital technology to handle movement , and that isn’t as good as mechanical ways. Overall though for ththe price it’s really very good. It’s more than a toy, and does what I wanted which was getting used to flying a drone , mostly indoors and a little outside. For outside work it has to be wind free and in a small area because the risk of it getting blown away or dropping contact outside maybe 10 metres is very high.

Ok, so the first tello I ordered arrived in a clear plastic looking box, the battery and tools were missing, so had to send back. A replacement was quickly sent but this time in a different packaging I’ve not seen before, a nicer box, and incased in a cardboard folding packaging, much like when you get soft drinks from drive throughs. So the newer packaging along with the hard cardboard case thing is a massive plus for me.

The drone itself is lovely and small, light, but heavy enough to feel valuable. It charges in about an hour and 20 minutes, and has been giving me about 12 minutes of flight time in very light winds. Ive only crashed it once outside into some long grass, but still works perfect.

The app is great and easy to follow, though when recording video i’m noticing it recording, but holding on a single frame for a good portion of the exported video, not all the time, but just sometimes. Not very annoying as yet as i’m still practicing using it.

Ive since purchased a wifi repeater, controller and case to go with this drone, so see how much extra precision I can get out of it.

I have to mention the stability though, and just how impressive it really is. Ive had several cheaper drones in the past, that didn’t have the ability of auto hover, this, is mind blowing to see. The power, especially visible inside when it blows all the paperwork everywhere when you take off is seriously impressive, and just feels like you getting not a cheap product, but a great product!

Very very impressed with this. And I look forward to teaching my 7 year old to fly with it once I learn how to fl it myself! 😉

    Fantastic Product for the price!

So long as you are aware of its limitations, which tbf you should be considering its price, such as poor stability in anything other than dead calm conditions then its a really good drone and a fantastic introduction to the world of flying them.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis little drone is great fun, easy to fly and can capture pictures that would not otherwise be Possible. But, and this is a big but, although this is powered by DJI it isn’t a Mavic and it has some practical limitations If you are buying it for anything other than a bit of fun. First, a battery life of 10 mins isn’t long and as it comes it has to be charged in the drone, so a second battery is likely to be a must and that adds cost. Second, it is limited to a height of 10m, which is fine for a lot of uses, but a slight puff of wind can blow it out of range of the Phone WiFi used to control it and without GPS it can’t return to base on its own. Third, like most drones it’s not waterproof so if you are planning to fly is near/over water then great care is needed because if it goes for a swim it will die. Finally, the 720p video quality is ok from a granularity perspective, but limitations on (I think) the video data storage/transmission seem to make it frequently hang or judder and I haven’t yet found any settings that improves that. So, this really is a great piece of technology at a low cost, but if you are expecting to be able to use it to get aerial footage like, for example, some of the channels on YouTube, then you might be disappointed.

A cracking little drone. I’ve only used it indoors so far, but it’s a really good stable little thing. Auto take off gets it hovering and from there you can move it around as needed.

It’s a good starter drone due to low cost and easy to fly. My 8yo has also found it easy to fly.

I’m sure the more expensive drones offer features and functions beyond this, but as a starter or cheap one for the kid, it works well.

Golden Review Award: 42 From Our UsersCouple of things incase you don’t already know about this drone – it’s tiny and it has no controller. You use your phone to fly this, or you can invest in an accessory to control it. You probably don’t need a controller though j less you want to really though this thing around and change direction precisely and rapidly.
Flight time is ok I’ve found, I reckon 10 minutes is around the norm for just flying around. Taking videos and photos and messing with the flips etc reduces this but it’s so small I only fly around for a few minutes if fun anyway.
Photos first – I think in good light these are fantastic. Really clear. In our well lit conservatory the pics are superb. You obviously have to get the drone positioned right to get focus when close but there’s plenty of angle for scenery pictures. Not super high res but very crisp and colourful.
Video sadly is let down but constant glitches and pauses, where it skips several frames (see video posted) and generally ruins some otherwise great quality videos. The WiFi is no doubt to blame and I believe there’s some kit that can help boost this but as it is you will loose frames and get drops in quality as soon as you go more than a few minutes away. It’s a shame but I guess this is a toy in reality.
The way this things stays steady in the air is amazing. It’s super balanced and stable. Perfect for clumsy users like me. Indoors on low light it gets confused though but in good light you can get away with small enclosed areas without smashing it up.
Landing I find is a pain as you have to set it on the phone and accept a pop up which in a quick land situation is a nightmare. But it works excellently on your hand or a flat surface. No dramas.
I haven’t used this a huge amount but it’s appeal hasn’t died yet. It’s a really great gadget but just that really. No use at all in anything above a small breeze and so small your limited in open spaces. Great to play with though and pictures are clear enough to use for aerial shots that you can’t get from a phone.

Super stable when calm and great photos

The damage to the motor was not accidental and simply occurred in mid-flight. The drone suddenly started spinning uncontrollably and afterwards wouldn’t hover for start-up. Instead, 3 motors spun up and it simply flipped over and stopped.

Fortunately, Amazon Technical support placed a re-order for a replacement drone straight away and I returned the faulty drone immediately. The new drone arrived the next day. So far, so good with drone no 2.

I bought this drone as a random birthday gift to my self and it seriously blew me away with the features it can do and the 3rd part applications available really strestch what this drone can do. I never quite caught the appeal of having a drone but flying this had me hooked and ended up buying a DJI Mavic Air.
This drone in suitable conditions and not dark provides amazing footage. However I recommend you buy a wifi range booster to get more range out the drone. You can use an app to increase the max hright from 10m to 30m or 100ft. Recommend if you have a wifi extende

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersThis thing is tiny, and I was confused when it arrived because it’s about the size of my palm. But packed inside this little body is a lot of amazing features! I gave it as a gift and I’m a little bit sad that I couldn’t keep it. Particularly love how you can programme it, as well as palm take off and landing with the touch of a button! It only weighs about 80g, so be careful you don’t take it out in high winds as you may end up sans-drone!

    Pros:
    – 13 minute flight time is really good, especially for the size and price of this drone!
    – Very fun with the tricks that are pre-programmed, and making your own
    – Easy to set up
    – Good price, especially for the features
    – Clear photos

The Tello is a great little drone. It’s marketed as a toy drone but that’s doing it a disservice. Yes it does some novelty tricks but I have had toy drones in the past and the difference is night and day. It captures pretty decent images and videos, the battery lasts a good amount of time and it controls really well. It can fly outdoors but is easily carried by the wind so be careful. The range isn’t always that great so purchasing a Wi-fi repeater is worthwhile.

Golden Review Award: 17 From Our UsersHad a few small drones before this Tello and I have to say I would have saved a fortune on poor tackle if this had been available when I started. I was initially concerned that I might wish I had GPS on board to hold it still… OMGosh that couldn’t be further from the truth!
I have no wish to lose sight of my drone or to attain stupid altitudes so thought this looked ideal….. It is!.
It is almost rock steady even at 10M high, the power mode is really good in breezes too, the Tello App is a revelation as it just works and keeps you fully informed at all times. The pre-programmed stunts are great and the drone is a little beauty being superbly engineered and VERY RESILIENT. It is also MUCH quieter than any of my previous mini (even micro) drones. To top it all off the photos are excellent and although the video can stutter occasionally I have ordered a Xaomi repeater to improve this, which should also ensure I run out of eyesight before control drops off.
One tip… I have painted the battery end and around it on the drone so I can see which end is which when flying without using the screen.
I thought the price was rather steep for such a small drone… However on hindsight it is actually cheap when you consider just how amazing it is to fly and how beautifully ENGINEERED it is?

Golden Review Award: 45 From Our UsersAn excellent little drone that is fun to fly and easy to program.

I bought the drone to teach myself how to control it through programming and, thanks to the internet, found communities of developers who have done just that! Ryze provides an official, if limited, programming interface to control the Tello, but other developers have created application programming interfaces (APIs) that allow your application to receive the live first-person view (FPV) video feed and recognise objects and people, and send commands back to follow them!

These advanced APIs makes the Tello perfect for STEM learning, as deciphering the video and feeding commands back to the drone via software algorithms is an ideal way of learning ‘real world’ software development.

I’m currently programming my Tello to follow a red ball held in front of it, such that it always keeps it in the centre of vision and not too near or far. A perfect example of real-world robotic software development!

What a great little drone this is , it’s steadfastness is just superb and judging by the reviews I’m adding to them by saying for a DJI controlled drone it’s well worth the money . DJI is the best kind of drone and some are very very expensive , I had one of the more expensive ones but it was just overwhelming for me and I sold it on. I’m still in practice mode and this one does the job. The hover on it is precise and so easy to handle , it’s light weight and fun outside it inside it’s perfect for learning. The technique it has to hover over tour hand and then land with its own ability is a welcome trick , flipping and fast flying is also an asset. I brought a neat case to hold mine in and I’m very happy with it and I’ve ordered a second battery for it. I first read the reviews on a catalogue site regarding this drone and they were all five star and no negativity which made me search for it on amazon, so glad I did totally love this drone

Golden Review Award: 31 From Our UsersFor some time now, I’ve wanted to own a DJI but I couldn’t really justify spending around 400 if you go for their cheaper DJI Spark. Although Tello is supposedly not actually manufactured by DJI it is “powered” by DJI so I was sure that some of that DJI technology would be included in this drone and certainly for just under 100 it made the decision much easier.
    Here goes my initial impression:
It’s definitely much smaller than I expected. I dare to say, I even thought it looked….”cheap”. Somehow, I kept thinking about other cheap drones I’ve seen around that come in a cardboard box with a huge window to see the item without having to unbox it. Once it’s out of the box its different. It feels very light but sturdy. The drone is pre-built, so all you have to do is install the battery, download the Tello App on your device and you’re good to go…. unless ….well, unfortunately you have to charge the battery first.
This almost ruined my pre-excitement – I was already planning my flight route. Anyhow…charging the battery it was. To do this, you need to install the battery, get a microUSB cable you might have lying around somewhere (yes, no cable is provided) and wait for about 1 hour to an hour and a quarter. Not too bad actually. I was fearing the worst and thought it would take much longer.
OK then, 1 hour and a bit after the unboxing and with a full battery we are good to go.
The App is very easy to install and it barely takes a few minutes to install the drone. Controls are also very straight forward. There’s a short intro that I would recommend everyone to view with all the basic controls. Everything is within finger reach on your device screen (considering you’re using a phone). The default settings worked quite well. I’m not a drone specialist but I didn’t feel like I had to tamper any of the initial settings. I guess that as I get more experience using the drone I will probably discover settings I feel more comfortable with.
There is a bit of latency with the controls so just consider this when flying. The drone will not respond immediately so just be cautious at the beginning with how you fly. You’re more likely to crash until you get used to the slight response time between phone controls and drone.
The camera on the drone is forward-facing and fixed, so you’ll need to consider that when flying and taking pictures. The quality of photos is actually not bad. I think they go up to 5MP. Outdoor photos are fairly sharp and indoor photos are not as good but I guess it has something to do with the amount of ambient light. As for the video quality, it does look a bit grainy and I experienced quite a bit of frame skipping, but overall, I was quite happy with the result. It’s definitely not a drone that should be expected to take incredible pictures or videos — I guess that’s where the more expensive drones come in play. This is a fun toy drone with a decent camera and very easy to use and learn.
The battery last around 15 minutes which isn’t too bad considering that other more expensive drones will only be around the 25-minute mark. Considering it only takes around an hour to re-charge I guess it’s ok. Personally though, for 18 I will probably end up buying a second battery to enjoy a longer flight time — you’ll also need to consider the battery life on your device, so one way or the other you won’t be able to go on for ever.
    Final impressions:
    PROS
    * Small size, very lightweight
    * Very easy setup – Download app, connect to drone via wifi and of you go.
    * Drone comes with all 4 propellers installed and propeller guards. The propeller guards can be removed if desired, but keeping them on at the beginning allows you to play around and protect your drone against any accidents until you feel you have a good control of the drone.

    CONS
    * The battery it comes with was not charged — around 1h to 1.15h to fully charge
    * microUSB required to charge the battery not included
    * Max recommended flight height 10m
    * Video is grainy and has some frame skipping

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised. It’s a decent quality drone for under 100. Controls are easy to learn and it’s a very enjoyable experience. Photos aren’t the best but it does the job. It’s a great, fun, small and quick drone with some decent DJI magic.
