This chair causes no end of problems with the Non Emergency Patient Transport Service.
It has labels on it that indicate it should not be tied, strapped or clamped to the floor of a vehicle.
Some crews clamp it down anyway, some transfer the patient to a seat and tie the chair up somewhere, whilst others refuse to take the chair at all.
So, don’t buy it as a transfer chair if you use NEPTS.
Other than that it is an excellent chair and quite capable of being pushed about the house and in the street.
It many features are well covered in other reviews.
This wheelchair is so light and easily fits into the boot of my small car. I can manage it so well that my husband and I have a lot more freedom. Excellent purchase.
Bigger than previous chair, but strongly built. Quite bulky to fit in your car, but can remove wheels and footplates; and the handles fold down. Light enough to lift. Strong enough for user. Easy enough to manoeuvre.
Originally purchased in 2015, it has stood the test of time well with very little in the way of any maintenance. Lightweight and compact, it could perhaps have just a slightly wider seat, as the fabric can rub against the inside of the wheels if wearing a large coat for example.
Overall really happy with this purchase.
item was very good but delivery was 3 days late which caused problems.
Everything to like,so handy for a disabled person to use and store.
So why was it returned? My Mum, said user, didn’t want to be seen in an institutional or medical looking wheelchair. This wheelchair definitely doesn’t fit those descriptions plus it could be stored in a small car as well as a larger one because if needed, the wheels, as well as the leg rests, can be easily removed. However, what we hadn’t appreciated and I think is a bit misleading in the product picture, is that the arm rests are very short. My Mum was comfortable except for her arms. She couldn’t rest them on the armrests and she just couldn’t find a comfortable place to position them. Okay, not so bad but of course when she came to get out of the wheelchair, she couldn’t. Where she needed to place her hands to push herself up, there is only the curve of the metal bar. In the end she was stuck. We couldn’t help her because it hurts her to touch her. She eventually got out but she was exhausted and in pain. So this is something to bear in mind if you or your relative needs to push down on full length armrests to lift themselves up and out of the chair.
The other element of the wheelchair I didn’t like and I was panicking about while my Mum was in the chair, were the leg rest release levers. While these make the removal of the leg rests very easy, it does mean there are two sharp pieces of metal near the legs of the occupant. I felt it was too close and was worried she would catch a leg on it. My Mum, like lots of elderly people, is on a blood thinner and the slightest nick or scratch can result in a lot of blood. I think this part of the design needs to be reviewed. Perhaps a less sharp, solid lever, perhaps one covered in material, could replace the current offering.
So, a stylish looking wheelchair but as we have learnt, style over functionality is not always appropriate. I hope this review helps people like my Mum. It was very expensive to return the wheelchair – we couriered it back in the end. Amazon, who we had it from directly, don’t offer a collection for this, like they do for other products. They were very helpful but I wouldn’t want anyone else to face that cost if the wheelchair wasn’t suitable for them.
Absolutely amazing great wheelchair fir someone who can’t walk so much thank you
Really great ultra lightweight wheelchair.
Bought for my 76 year old mum as she has had an op and needs to be non weight bearing on one leg for 12 weeks.
She lives on her own and is having no problems with getting around her flat in this wheelchair.
She’s even managed sweeping and hoovering from it LOL
It’s also very lightweight for me to push when we go out together (we’re in a bubble before anyone panics lol)
Really pleased with this purchase.
It’s very lightweight. In my area it is full of lumpy weird stuff so it feels like it’s rickety but it actualy isn’t. If it was rigid I think it would have problems. Instead it seems to mold to the environment 🙂
My first instinct was to buy a cheaper one as I need it mainly for moving around shopping etc. rather than long periods.
My wife suggested we spend a bit more and I think she was right.
Features I like:
* Light and seems well made.
* Comfortable.
* Adjustable foot plate length.
* The tyres seem to have a decent tread. They are solid.
* The brakes seem excellent. A strong textured cylinder compresses into the tyre by about 1.5cm – looks pretty firm to me.
* Foot rests easily snap into position. Lift off in a trice too.
* Wheels remove with just a press of a button
* Folding back rest
* Bevelled arms help you tuck under or close to a table.
* Looks quite classy and not too ‘medical’.
I am about 5’9, male, and its a good fit Maybe an inch or two to spare in the seat width. I would not want to be much wider though. They do a 20″ model but I wanted this as it will be a little easier to manoeuvre.
The only watch point I’d advise is re when you swing the footplates back ground the side. The snap locks then project forward – which could scratcth furniture. And they don’t lock into that position so might swing around. No big deal IMHO.
Excellent chair very light my wife can lift it into the car easily and fits into the boot even with wheels still attached even though they remove very quickly and easy if needed, a very good value chair i only give it a 4 star because for me the front castor wheels are rather large which i find makes maneuvering a little more difficult than my last chair but in all a very good chair and i am very happy with i
Light weight and easy to use. The only thing that would make it even better is if the handles could be adjusted – I found them rather low when pushing but my wife used it and found them perfect. Do not let my slight criticism put you off this really is an excellent chair. We used it on hard sand, rough car parks and along a coastal path which admittedly was designed for chairs and bikes but it managed all surfaces with ease. Purchased a cushion for it from another company for 9 which made it very comfy. It made a family break to the coast accessible to my 90 year old father in law who can not walk far – worth every penny!
YES! YES! YES! This really is the best Mobility Wheelchair I’ve ever had and I love it. So easy to use with or without someone pushing me.- I can turn 360 degrees in a small space. It’s so lightweight that even I can dismantle it and it fits in small spaces.. This wheelchair does everything it should do and I’m still learning. Common sense tells me to avoid the high kerbs/steps for the best longevity results.
I’m thrilled and feel sure any newby to wheelchair use will be pleased too.
It’s the perfect size for me (5’5″ medium build) and feels really supportive and comfortable. It has a really smooth roll and easy turning with the big wheels. The brake levers are in easy reach as they extend up more than other chairs I’ve seen. It folds up really easily and with the back folded down, removable footrests and being so light weight it’s easy getting it in/out of the boot of the car (my partner does).
I’m an Occupational Therapist and regularly get asked where people can buy a decent chair for occasional outdoor use (as NHS only provide to regular users indoors and outdoors) and advise them where to look, so I will definitely recommend this to anyone that asks me in future. 150 seems to be the price range most people I met are willing to stretch to so this is a whole lot of wheelchair for your money! I have also tried it indoors and it’s great around the house too. It looks sturdy enough to make a good daily use chair too if needed. It does say it takes up to 115kg – that’s a lot of strength in a neat package.
Otherwise it seems fine, remarkably light and easy to maneuver.
Identical wheelchairs are used in Athens Airport for transporting disabled passengers.
This means a commercial level of sturdiness.
Here is an undocumented feature: Fold and remove foot rests. Fold chair width by two thirds. There is now enough space under the X-frame to fit each footrest, plastic to back and upwards, clip to front.The bar of each foot rest now lies on the two semi-circular rests that the seat bars lie on when the chair is in its non folded position. Now fold chair fully and the foot rests are trapped securely but gently in that position. They don’t protrude. Now fold down the back. Use a cycle lock of the cable type under the side panels around the frame at the front (The two frame parts are now 6″ apart). That keeps it securely folded, the foot rests will not drop out and your chair is secure for airline travel. Nice!
This is an excellent quality chair. It’s lightweight, but sturdy – I’m 5ft2in and 63 yrs old and can very easily lift it into the boot of my car. It came ready-assembled (except for the footrests) and only needed to be unwrapped. No problems whatever folding and unfolding it.
It is easily manoeuvrable, turns on a sixpence, either when being pushed or self-propelled. It was simple to adjust the height of the footrests using the toolkit that comes with the chair. Husband says it is comfortable to sit in – I had a go too, and I agree! Can’t fault it.
