On TV aerial and works great for a weather station. Also purchased the moisture sensors which add nicely. Easy set up and cloud connected so no local display sitting around.
Love this weather station, has all the reading I want, love that it interfaces with an iPhone and via Wunderground. It is so easy to assemble and get working. No problems as yet.
So I have used ethernet not wifi to setup this, that could not be simpler, simply plug it in and it’s good to go almost instantly. Did not come with a power supply for the hub which is a shame, just a usb cable. Easy to install but uses a 1 inch connection but a 22mm pipe and a bit of duct tape sorts that. I have some concerns that the unit could get lifted from the pipe in very high winds so I taped down the heater cable as well which should stop that. Seems to be reasonably accurate so far in readings but only low winds at the moment and no rain to test it with. I also got the lightning sensor which was also simple to add. simply add batteries and the hub detected and added it instantly.
Unclear instructions for setup and app glitches are annoying but perseverance is worth it.
Bellissimo articolo facile da installare, i parametri sono molto attendibili, tramite l’app del telefono puoi vedere in tempo reale il meteo della localizzazione, e anche di tutto il mondo, ve lo consiglio.
Installation was easy and straight forward. Setup was ok for me but I’m techy. Followed the instructions and no issue. Accuracy is great. I think the app could be a little prettier, it’s a bit plain looking. Straight forward just data.
East to install and so easy to read. It is the best weather station I have purchased during the past 10 years. I would recommend this product to any person interested in monitoring the weather from their desk.
This was bought as a gift and has been truly appreciated and loved! Easy to install, very accurate and display monitor is easy to read. Would absolutely recommend this product for any weather aficionado’s!
I live in outback Australia with high UV and low humidity- I used this station for 2 years until I bought a Kickstarter replacement, but still miss this one. It was accurate, responsive and super easy to set up. Good range and a good price
Easy to install and works well. However the orientation of the Weather station is for Northern Hemisphere. It says in the manual, for Southern Hemisphere, point WEST arrow towards East. I am in Australia and when I follow the instructions from the manual, the wind direction is wrong. I tried calibrating as per the instructions from the manual but the wind direction is still wrong. Contacted Support and they advised it’s not necessary to orient the weather station to East in the Southern Hemisphere which is opposite of what the manual says.. So a bit disappointed with the contradictory messaging.
Works well but wing direction needs a bit of calibration for rough wind direction with different results sometimes shown between the App and the display (included with the kit).
A little difficulty pairing with Internet and App
Really happy with Eco Witt weather station. Easy to install and works great. Had a couple of dropouts with the connection in the last month but easy to reconnect to panel. Great that you can hook it up to the internet and monitor from anywhere in the world. Recommended
Really happy with my Ecowitt weather station. It took me a while to build up and install, reading the installation and programming manual first several times. I mounted mine on a timber pole to elevate from the roof as instructed so it was a bit of fiddling around to get it exactly as was required. Since installed, this has been fantastic. The in-home weather station has all the stuff on display and the app on my phone is great! I’ve compared this to a more expensive station that my brother has and the Ecowitt winds hands down for accuracy, number of measurements and displays and has been a great addition to our Peninsula home.
Had the Ecowitt WS2910 in service for 10 days now. Set up including internet connection was very easy. Build quality seems reasonable considering the price, we’ll see. As is usual with these cheap units it overstates rainfall but has a function to calibrate in the software. I have a 100mm diameter Nylex rainfall gauge and ended up applying a multiplier of 0.86 to the WS2910 rainfall, now seems reasonably close across different rainfall rates. Not sure about wind speed accuracy yet. I’ve given it 5 stars based on the low price, highly recommend if you want a cheaper weather station.
Instructions weren’t very clear so setup wasn’t too easy but never the less I worked it out. It’s been on my roof for a couple of months now and hasn’t missed a beat. Data seems reliable and accurate. Easy to view the data on the different apps
In the last 10 years I have gone through three weather stations. They all broke down after two years or so. This was my fourth station. The main unit’s LED fired a signal every 16 seconds, as described in the manual. However, the console didn’t pick it up, nor was there any indication it was looking for a signal. It read the internal sensor correctly. I tried the unit on my work bench, the sending unit one foot from the console. Is there any one out there who can produce a reliable weather station?
I have now found out that I returned this unit prematurely. I didn’t realize that one could “re-register” each sensor, which I missed. I reordered the unit, and guess what: it worked flawlessly out of the box. I am very pleased with this unit. My fervent hope is that it will last more than two years.
Okay, it’s hard to set up the WIFI you need to switch off 5GHz and make sure you are on 2.4 GHz. You can switch the 5GHz back on when you are done.
Station ID is the device name.
Instructions are a little confusing as regards set up but the installation and connection from the weather station to the sensor works fine.
Easy to set up and as a bonus the wifi display I had for my previous weather station this one replaced automatically picked up its info when I turned it on. The app is detailed and easy to use.
I bought this predominantly to measure rainfall at a holiday house that is on tank water. It has been faultless. It connects to the home wifi and has been uploading to the free Ecowitt weather site as per the instructions for over 12 months now. The solar power obviously works as it still reports the sensor battery as “normal”. I don’t use the mobile app other than the for initial setup – I just view the graphs etc on the Ecowitt weather website.
The most difficult thing was aligning the sensor direction with a compass so the wind direction is accurate. The process is straight forward but difficult because I was on a ladder and our roof is metal interfering with the compass. Make sure you have a compass or accurately know which was is north before you start!
The setup of this thing is not at all straight forward.
Firstly you need to understand the basic concept of this all the communications work.
The station itself is not WiFi enabled. It communicates like a cordless phone to the gateway and the gateway connects to the internet.
The gateway has no screen and no web interface, so you use an iPhone app to configure it.
The app is really clunky and it takes a lot of playing around to work out how it works.
When you add a device it works like this:
1. The app records your current WiFi SSID (which is often a 5g radio that doesn’t work with the gateway).
2. It tells you to put the gateway into connect mode, but won’t allow you to move on until the app determines you have switched from the app to something else (presumably your phone settings).
3. Once connected to the gateway if pre-enters the recorded SSID, which hopefully was a 2.4G WiFi radio.
4. You enter the WiFi password (you can also enter settings like WeatherUnderground on the same screen, which is cumbersome because these are often long complex strings).
5. The App reports that the connection worked, but then does nothing else.
6. As the Ecowitt cloud service uses the MACID of the device you need to logon to that portal and register the MACID (rather than using an ID/password pair like all the other services).
7. The app shows no weather data unless you have also setup WeatherUnderground (the app doesn’t use the Ecowitt data for some crazy reason).
8. When you try and find your own device in the App it shows nothing at first because evidently it is doing a scan of your network which takes some time, but because there is no indication a search is happening you give up before the gateway is discovered. If for some insane reason you waited for 30 seconds it will appear.
If you email support they get back to you, but you don’t get an email to confirm your request so that is also confusing. There is also no web portal for support.
Basically, this whole setup is what you’d expect from a product designed by a bunch of technical people who know what they are doing but have nothing but contempt for the average user.
It could all be fixed with a rewrite of the app, a Wiki and support using Zendesk.
Once you know how this all works you will be very happy with it. Perhaps most people who buy these things are technical people who have the patience to work it all out, but if that isn’t you, don’t expect this thing to be plug and play like your average Apple accessory.
Easy set up. Followed instructions without issues. Highly recommend. Been using it for over a month now with no problems. Have used another indoor unit to compare accuracy and they were the same.
Have been using this weather station for over a month and find it accurate and easy to access information specific to my property, you can also check other weather stations all over the world. Very pleased with purchase.
When another brand’s server went belly up and our gear was offline and null and void were didn’t want to be caught out, again. We researched a replacement for almost 2yrs before finally taking the plunge. This has been faultless so far and is a wonder set up. The alternate weather station site uploads is a plus and their own provides the ability to capture all the connected sensors. The APP is only works for local definitions/setup from within your own network. But, external their our website viewer is excellent. It would be nice if the APP could also switch between ‘local’ and ‘internet’ feeds.
The product works very well. Takes a little while to set up with your network but once on there it has not dropped off. The only issue is sometimes it seems to lose connectivity to the App on your phone or tablet, however restarting the app seems to fix this issue immediately so no big deal.
Mostly seems to happen if you leave the network with your phone and then come back
This was an easy setup and everything works really well – range is very good for the sensors and everything keeps in sync with your favourite weather service! Good value for money and I like how you can continue to add other features… I now have 3 soil sensors and we are saving on water too! Great Product – Recommended.
Works well as a weather station. Set up was a bit confusing at first, but once solved it works well. Important to note that the only way to read the weather station is via the web browser, using the gateway, or an app on phone.
The browser interface via ecowitt is good, and allows you to view historical data.
Recommended.
Purchased this to replace an old Oregon Scientific weather station that has stopped working. Relatively easy to install & set up with clear concise user manual. The only tricky bit is trying to level the outdoor sensor so that the bubble level is within the red-circle. I has to shim the unit with some plastic underneath. I do wish the unit has some sort of adjustment screws to level the unit – it would be easier and more elegant solution.
I’ve also registered the unit on ecowitt.net which is a bonus as I can access the data from my computer and mobile devices anywhere.
Overall I am vey happy with the purchase and would recommend to anyone considering a weather station. Also received the unit much earlier than advised – I ordered on Monday and the unit arrived next day – this is super quick, considering we are in Melbourne Stage4 lockdown.
Great price for an internet connected weather station. The setup on the USB device can be a little tricky, but overall it does what it needs to do at the right price. It’s fantastic that you can add more temperature sensors, but be sure to get the WH31 (not WH32) sensors as this device already has outdoor temp.
Very happy with product. Quite sturdy unit and app is useful. Easy to access once installed. While overseas for 2 months, the gateway proved itself to be very reliable. Much easier to edit the tabs. Useful improvement over the earlier versions
So far accuracy is excellent. Sensors paired very easily with excellent range. All sensors, PM2.5, soil moisture, indoor temp humidity etc reported to ecowitt.net, which is better than weather underground. Set up was easy enough, and now I am glad I didnt order the unit with a power hungry dust gathering display.
I dont think you can get the functions of this unit any where near this price from anywhere else.
Very accurate and quite easy to set up. I am pleasantly surprised with the unit. However, I am in a windy coastal location and as such having a rain gauge built in was not the best idea for me. For example I had 1.8mm recorded rainfall last 24hrs but my neighbor with a separate rain gauge recorded 24.5mm. It’s a catch 22 of having it located high and clear for accurate wind speed and direction but the cost of this is under reported rain rain figures. Otherwise I am happy with it.
It took about an hour to configure the weather station and get it working. Once I set my router to give out an IP Address (DHCP turned on) it worked perfectly. It took me a further couple of hours to find the right place in our yard to mount the weather station so it was in a good position to record the wind speed and still be able to communicate with the Ecowitt Control module in my office. I was able to setup my account on Ecowitt.net in a few minutes and data was received on the web site in minutes.
The whole exercise was quite simple and straight forward, but you must read the instructions carefully.
The product is highly recommended.
The last weather station I set up was over 20 years ago, running a very long RS232 cable and having to keep my PC turned on.
But how the times have changed. This one took 30 minutes to set up … (honestly I could have done it in 15 minutes if the instructions had been in a larger font format)
Plugging the receiver into the USB port on my Internet box was easy. I got a bit stuck on the WS View app set up screens until I figured out it often had more further down the screen out of sight.
I would have liked some sections of interlocking pipe tube in the box, there was room. I used an old garden solar light 2m stand for the pipe, stuck in an old garden umbrella stand.
It’s working great and I’m now thinking of buying a couple more for presents.
As far as I can tell the wind speed accuracy is bow the true value, but that isn’t very important to me.
I absolutely love being able to access the temperatures from my phone, both of the main station and the auxiliary sensor which I keep in my garage.
This does everything I wanted for a fair price. If it lasts at least five years I will be completely satisfied. These things take a bit of a beating being completely exposed outdoors. Keep in mind a professional quality station that does the same thing is close to ten times the price
I wish the screen was a bit larger so I could easily read it across the room. I was not surprised it was small – they clearly advertise the screen size. But there is so much data packed in the display, making the screen double the size would be a great improvement.
I love the permanent temperature graph on the screen. Couldn’t live without it now.
I am a weather-obsessed person who has owned many remote thermometers and have a large collection of outdoor exotic plants which are temperature sensitive. I monitor the weather obsessively.
This device is outstanding.
The weather station was supplied with the wind vane set screw missing. The remedy by Ecowitt support in the U.S. was prompt and polite.
The instrument appears to be accurate and of good quality. Since it is configured for the northern hemisphere its orientation and wind direction setting need to be reversed for the southern hemisphere where I live. When installed with the requisite precision for scientific instruments, the data from the station appear to be accurate and consistent, and the historic graphs stored on the web server are detailed, useful and easy to interpret. I consider the weather station to be good value for its price.
So easy to connect. Great app and now it is accessible to me anywhere. Everything was in the box just had to put in settings for north and southern hemisphere which was easy. Awesome and cheapest one on the market.
Upgraded from the FineOffst WH3081 which has always had a USB disconnecting bug. Easy to install via the Android app. The orientation needs to be reversed for southern hemisphere operation and the setting altered to get North correct. Only gripe was the set-screw for the wind direction vane was missing. Found one that fitted in my collection. Has been working flawlessly for 5 days now, including two firmware upgrades.
