We use this as a hen house for two brown hens inside a much bigger run
It was quite easy to assemble after watching youtube how to do it. It is sturdy and dry but we have it undercover.
It is neat and looks good but no way should keep hens or bantams be kept in this alone. The house comfortably houses the two hens overnight – they use a nest box each not the perches. The run is tiny and they cannot fully extend their necks or wings in it. It would be cruel to keep poultry in this size chicken run alone.
Great item.
Bit of a wait for add on extention but worth it.
Gave chickens more space
Good value, easy to put together and sturdy. I think the quality is also good….for the price. At this price point you have to be realistic about what you’re getting. I’ve painted mine otherwise i didn’t think, given the quality of timber, it would last more than a couple of seasons. For this money i think that’s fine though. In terms of space, the coup itself is fine for 5 or so large foul if you’re letting them roam. The run element is not big enough for any number of chickens (large or bantam) if you’re thinking of keeping them in there permanently. The run suffices to keep them contained for a few hours or the odd day. Not sure that’s how it’s being sold so can’t say that positive or negative but just concerned that those new to chickens without much space might assume this is adequate space on it’s own – it’s not! If i had a minor niggle its that the laying box and roof are both screwed in place rather than detachable which means cleaning is difficult unless you turn the whole thing on it’s side. Yes it has a slide out tray and the laying box lid lifts but this isn’t really enough to get to the whole of the interior easily.
Really pleased with this, lovely colour and chooks were syra in no problem!
Arrived quickly, instructions were very poor and not clear and labelled. My husband is very qualified at diy and even he was scratching his head at instructions. Only because he is used to putting things together was he able to get this put together. Once put together looks good awaiting our chickens.
Painted mine inside and out with cuprinol water based paint before assembly as instructions recommend some preventative paint over and above the initial treatment. The unit is well made and has more strength when assembled than initial impressions of the wood it is made of. Only quibble is that I don’t think that it is big enough for any more than 3 hens, probably 2 more comfortably due to the size of the shed and more particularly the run. A longer run would be my suggestion to the makers for it to be more versatile.
Arrived early, all the parts were there. So far so good. It’s looks good hens are happy.
Nice coop, it was easy to assemble very sturdy I like that it has no felt on and an added bit of plastic stuff to keep the best box dry. Only thing is there is no way I would put “5 larger birds” in it, I think 4 bantams or 3 slightly bigger (I have Brahma bantams) would be comfortable in this but would also need to be let out in the garden for a bit of exercise.
The chickens are very happy with the coop as are we. The only minor criticism is that it looks larger in the picture than in reality it would have been useful to see a chicken in or near the coop.
Some clearer instructions wouldn’t go amiss but when we got it assembled we were pleased with it. Don’t forget you’ll also need an enclosed run.
Housing 3 hens Important to check size as it really did look much larger in the pictures but, in fairness to the seller all measurements were clearly shown.
Looks really good. I have painted it and it’s very cute! Only slight grumble is that the ramp to get up from ground level to the house is really steep and my silly silky bantams struggle to get up and down… but they are very dim bless em
This is a good little coop, but you will need to make some kind of run. We have 2 bantam type chickens and I would not keep them inside the coop all day as there is not enough room for them to scratch around. We achieved this with some chicken wire and metal support posts.
There was some damage to the wood in places and one of the dowels was in the wrong place and when we put the roof on it split the top a little. However, this was not enough to return it and we sorted it out
The roosting area and nesting boxes work well, it is pretty easy to clean out.
Brought this coop to house 5 chickens, and this does the job. As you can see by the pictures i did felt the roof and hen box to keep them protected from the elements and preserve the roof.
The biggest change here is that i added a nest box onto the rear, its really easy to do but i advise you to get someone to do it for you if your not sure.
The only downsize and why i rated a 4 is the fact i added more wire mesh and proofed it more from predators of all kinds, i wired meshed it under the run so nothing can dig under and take a bird.
that pretty much my review, at the time the coop wasnt the price it’s showing.
There is no way this holds 5 large birds unless you you want to set up an extremely small scale battery farm. We have three bantams and I certainly wouldn’t put any more birds in it. Nice coop though.
Great coop, very easy to assemble. The only negative is that it is advertised to take up to 4/5 hens. No way! I have 3 and it’s about right. I also bought the extension run which is a perfect addition for my 3 hens.
Nicely constructed, nothing broken, nothing missing, pre drilled holes, it fitted together perfectly, nothing split or broke.
Flat pack how flat pack should be…instructions could have been a bit clearer, but take your time and it all makes sense.
Used this as a pen for my kitten. He loves it, plenty of room to run about, easily moved about to be outside inside etc. Only issue was the steps up to the house ended up breaking off but lucky enough he’s now big enough to jump in and out himself. Easily assembled but might take two people
Good, even astonishing, quality for the price. Well packed and easy to assemble. Certainly big enough for the three ex-bat hens who are due to arrive soon. We will attach a bigger custom made run later, though.
Not one for reviews but thought this deserved a write up. So firstly, easy to put together, as a ‘coop’ this is perfect for 4 hens but only as a coop, 3 to 4 hens will need a run bigger unless free to range. Being a perfect base coop we have modified and added a run to this. I am overall happy with the purchase, easy to put together, seems pretty sturdy and safe. We added shingles to the roof as a place to escape the weather for the hens and then built our own run around this for our 4 hens using stakes and chicken wire for the day to range. I definitely wouldn’t put more than 2 hens in this if using alone but for what we purchased it for its perfect.
Lovely hen house , only draw back was that it is not easy to clean ou
Great value for money, not sure it’s big enough for 5 larger birds like it says in the description, think an extension run is needed.
Easy to assemble. Room comfortably for 2 to 3 hens , our hens settled well. Would have preferred the door in different place can be difficult to get hens out.
Far better than I expected given the price, with some nice attention to detail – found all the different screw combinations a bit of a pain but got there in the end – very easy to put together – you only need 1 other person to hold a panel in place – soon as you have 2 panels together you can do the rest on your own. Great little hen house – our broody hen Dotty has moved in – she seems very happy with the new home.
Great little coop for 3 small chickens!
Lovely and sturdy, easy to assemble and a bonus that it’s the same colour as our fence!!
The only negative is that it may be a little hard to clean properly, I may need to unscrew the roof to give it a good clean every few months. Other than that it’s a good price for a coop and one that will fit my 3 silkies.
Bought this for my two bunnies. It is an ok size for my two mini lops, we have attached a separate run as well just to give them a bit more space. Not very easy to clean as the roof doesnt open. All in all we are pleased with the purchase. What would say though is if you are planning on using out doors the locks are not very sturdy, you will need to add extra locks just to keep Mr Fox out!
Really happy with the chicken coop. nice large size I will be having two to three big chickens in the coop. I am painting it at the moment and have put it together with no hassle at all. nicely built good to see a company using screws.
The instructions state it needs weather proofing. It looks a little tacky when you unbox it, but it paints up beautifully.
Goes together easily and the screws are packaged logically so easy to follow
Arrived quick and fairly easy to put together but smaller than it looks in pic. The wood is thin and you will need to varnish/protect it but you get what you pay for i guess
This ‘chicken coop’ is actually perfect for use as a rabbit hutch. It’s easy to put together, nice and solid once built and has much more internal space than the majority of rabbit hutches in this price range. I simply omitted the perches and the separator piece in the ‘egg laying box’ and voila, perfect outdoor bunny home. Win.
Really good chicken coop and very well built. Instructions for assembly could be better though
A compact but convenient chicken house. This is well designed although the droppings tray under the perches could be a bit deeper so that it can be emptied easier. Otherwise we are very pleased with it.
I purchased for 2 dwarf rabbits. I use the nesting area for their food bowls. The main bedding section gives them plenty of space so they can stretch out when they sleep. I like that I can close them in at night by the sliding door in case a fox or dog tries to break into the run section. The coop was dispatched quickly. I did a lot of research before I bought this for my rabbits and I think this is one of the best out there and not too expensive. I think it is sturdy for the price. I also use a second larger run for my rabbits when I’m at home. The roof doesn’t open which isn’t a big issue but I would like an extra opening to the back of the run. It can be difficult to get a rabbit to move out of the back area so they can be put in for the night.
It would be suitable for 4 large hens and you would need a separate run or extension. Use an electric screwdriver it will be a big timesaver.
A great coop and run for our ex-battery hens. Really well made and amazingly quick delivery. A great sturdy all round coop which will last any years to come and is the perfect home for our new soon-to-be free range hens!
