I bought this for my mum who said it was very easy to set up. That’s saying something from my mum! Very happy with it, far better than previous watches from other brands.
I love my Fitbit! It comes with free Fitbit premium for the first 6 months, which has really helped me to fully see my stats and work to improve them. I love the sleep tracking feature. I have very small wrists and was worried this wouldn’t fit properly, but it is perfect and there is still space to move down!
I was unsure whether to buy another fitbit as they rarely last much past the warranty period.
My partner has a Charge5 and it does have many functions and a bright colour display. My previous fitbit a Charge3 was very poor in sunlight, this Charge5 is far better.
It also has many health sensors, such as irregular heart rate and O2 monitoring.
Hopefully it will be reliable, if not I’ll update this review.
I bought this for my wife who thinks it important to know how many steps she takes, and how many calories she has burned off.
My contribution is to keep it running for her by telling her where she left the charger gizmo, how to “sync” it with her “app”, and how to change the dial so she can tell the time in the real world.
Luckily she sleeps like a log, so I don’t need to understand how to work the sleep tracking thing.
I wish I had bought her a pair of house slippers.
Really enjoying my new Fitbit Charge 5. The style and battery life are good. Although I feel like some of the features are not desperately accurate, e.g. the sleep measurements, the heart rate monitor, which is extremely important to me, is remarkably well aligned to medical equipment to which I’ve been attached recently. I did find the strap it came with uncomfortable and “sweaty”, but ordered a three pack of the fabric ones. I find these much better.
Bought this to replace a clunky fitbit Versa. It is light and confortable, the screen is bright and easy to see in bright sunlight.
The battery drained very quickly, but after a restart and factory reset the battery has been fine.
I love this Fitbit so much. It was a long overdue upgrade from my Alta HR and I didn’t want a smartwatch since I always have my phone with me. I just needed a good tracker and this is exactly that. It’s easy to setup, use and sync and I like the additional ECG feature. Battery life is excellent – I charge once a week at best. Also it’s waterproof and automatically tracks my swims as well as other exercises. Tracking can be set manually too or turned off altogether. The strap however isn’t great. I liked the white however after about 4 weeks daily use, I noticed my skin was irritated and peeling. I switched to a non-branded fabric strap and my skin returned to normal with no scars. Great Fitbit, but beware of the non-breathable strap (hence -1 star)
I have owned most of the Fitbit Charge models…they are reliable and not overly complicated.
I decided to buy the Charge 5 for the coloured screen and the aesthetics of the device.
I am not disappointed, this model is the best yet, loving the coloured screen which you can change using the app. Tracks well as all the charge models do.
If you are looking for a slim not in your face tracker which is easy and reliable you cannot go wrong with the Charge 5
I’m quite happy with this Fitbit apart from one gripe.
It does what it claims as far as I can tell, and the heart rate it records is not too far off that I get from a chest strap HRM. Sleep recording seems about right, although it’s not good at detecting that I’m awake in the morning sat reading in bed.
The app gives a good set of reports that provide a wealth of information for the user to spend hours looking at. Of course, it’s only useful if you choose to take steps to enhance your scores.
My gripe is that, as a cyclist, it insists on recording “steps” while I’m out on the bike. It does this even when I select “cycling” as an activity! That’s why I awarded 3 for accuracy. I get 1,250 – 1,500 steps for each 15 minutes on the bike! Bonkers. Checking chats on the web this “feature” has been highlighted by users since 2018 and Fitbit have obfuscated the whole issue. Now apparently they claim it’s a “feature to award steps for all types of activity”. So, the Charge 5 is hopeless if you want to record bike activity as distance and separately record Steps taken during the day. Apparently it does the same thing for swimming and other “non-step” activities. All it needs is an option to “not count steps when on this activity” – surely a simple software update that shouldn’t take 5 years to sort out.
Also using the GPS when on a bike ride eats the battery – don’t expect it to survive much more than an hour from fully charged. So, as a bike activity recording device – hopeless.
Battery life (without GPS use) is good – I’m getting a full week on a charge.
To conclude, neat, works well, good app but stupid recording of “steps” for non-walking activities.
My old Fitbit hr Alta gave up after several years. So this was the most obvious upgrade.
It is very easy to read apart from the battery percentage icon is too small.
I suffer from Afib, so liked the idea of the ECG monitor, but often get inconclusive readings.
It would get 5 stars if it wasn’t for these issues.
If you are going to look at a Fitbit and get the most out of it, then the Premier membership is a must! It is only with the membership do you get all the functionality that turns this from a simple tracker to a personal focused health device. The premier membership comes with a whole range of services. If it is a simple tracker then there are cheaper alternatives; pays your money, takes your choice! The Charge 5 is a great upgrade to my Inspire HR and a worthy replacement albeit with the known issue with the watch strap clip issue!!!!!!!!! If you are not aware the ‘pebble’ is attached to the strap by a very tiny spring loaded clip which seemingly, with not much more than a tug comes away! Very, very easy to loose as it so small and there are no Fitbit replacements for it! There are couple of online companies that sell a replacement but the reviews are very mixed! You can buy a pebble holding watch strap which is what people buy that have the issue, stopping you throwing it away. It seems a very small complaint but it is a significant design flaw, have a look at the Fitbit community page. Anyway mine came away as above but I have managed with a watch making toolset managed to fix (for the time being) the issue. Now the aesthetics & functionality. It sits great on my wrist and looks the business. I swapped the original silicon strap as it doesn’t breathe. I have ended up with a rash underneath as it captures, soap, body lotion, water and what ever ends up in a swimming pool! I bought an adjustable nylon strap on Amazon and it works a treat. Three weeks no rash! The increased functionality of the Inspire HR is great, allowing me to train smarter (with a Readiness score) which works! The more you train, the greater the physical stress the lower the scoring and a suitable training recommendations are made. I love the Fitbit app and is very comprehensive and detailed and is easy to follow. The screen on the Charge 5 is excellent and the glass
is scratch resistant. It is light, smooth and unobtrusive, and therefore there is no issue wearing 24×7; capturing all nocturnal activity!!!!!!! If you are going to invest in your health this is a great tracker. I am sure there are other equally as excellent trackers out there but you won’t have wasted your money, especially if you pick it up at one the Amazon sale days or buy a second hand one from the buy options.
I’ve been using the Fitbit Charge 5 for more than 6 months now, and I’ve been really impressed with it. It’s a great fitness tracker that offers a variety of features, including built-in GPS, stress management tools, sleep tracking, and 24/7 heart rate monitoring.
I really like the built-in GPS. It’s great for tracking my runs and bike rides, and it’s accurate enough that I can track my progress.
The stress management tools are ok – the EDA scan is an interesting feature. I do regret there’s no guided breathing app when it was available on the charge 3&4 as well as on the inspires.
The sleep tracking is pretty good, too. It can track my sleep stages and give me an overall score for my sleep quality. I’ve been able to use this information to make some changes to my sleep habits, and I’ve been sleeping better as a result.
Overall, I’m really happy with the Fitbit Charge 5. It’s a great fitness tracker that offers a lot of features for the price. If you’re looking for a comprehensive fitness tracker, I would definitely recommend it.
First off I just love my Fitbit and wear it all the time. My skin sometimes gets irritated from the band, but it doesn’t bother me.
Now, I never normally leave product reviews but after this warrior survived an accidental spin in the washing machine – I just knew I must recommend it. Surprised it survived as I really didn’t think it would work after, but at least now I know it really is waterproof
Bought it as a replacement for my charge 4 which died after I went swimming with it.
I love this version, the screen is better and it looks much nicer. I’ve seen people say that they charge it more often but I haven’t found that to be the case and I have had it a month now. The way to chrge it is much easier and better too.
I wasn’t sure on how the strap does up but actually it has been fine.
Great watch, nice to have colour after upgrading from the 4. Bit temperamental moving through the options. Not sure what the strap is made of but I have had the worst reaction. I’ve had a break from it, washed it etc but it’s literally eating me raw.
I had a Fitbit Charge 4 and because of the lack of instructions, when a strap broke, I broke the watch trying to get the broken strap off, but I was impressed with the watch so I bought the Charge 5. Again there is a complete lack of operation instructions and you have to endure the youtube instructions. It has taken me some time to set up the watch as I want it especially for the activities, now I am quite happy with the Tracker. As to its accuracy I cannot really comment.; I have nothing to test it against. As an aside, I had over the last few years tried 4 similar items and have not been happy with them, 2 I got my money and 2 I gave to charities. I do like the depth of information the app gives on my mobile phone or my iPad.
Yes you can get cheapo fitness watches 30% the price of the Charge 5 (UK), but I tried one of those last year and it was a total waste of time. Display was virtually invisible in daylight, accuracy was poor and functions very limited. The Charge 5 is head and shoulders above them. The display is awesome, the navigation easy to use and intuitive and the supporting phone app very informative and helpful. Of course, it doesn’t offer the accuracy and functionality of apple and android super smart watches, but frankly, I am not there yet. (I dont really need functions that I use my phone for on my watch as well). My wife was so impressed with the positive impact the watch had on my fitness regime she got one as well! She loves it just as much as I do.
I bought a different strap as I did not get on with the rubber one it came with (I have sensitive skin) but that was no big deal. My wife was super happy with hers. Battery life is amazing. We leave our watches on day and night and only charge once every five days or so… We’ve had the watches over a month now and have no regrets – though I am told not to expect much more than 18 months 2 years life expectancy. Time will tell and maybe I will update this review as and when it expires!
If you’re looking for a good entry level fitness watch to help kickstart your health plans then look no further.

Not going to go overboard on this as I only use it for steps, exercises and telling the time so this is not a review for all the lycra gym bunnies. It replaces a Charge 2 so obviously it’s all different and in glorious technicolour but to my mind some of it is a backward step, some graphics are so small they render them pointless if you’re at the gym sweating your nuts off and want to see at a quick glance how you’re doing – don’t expect to have to put my glasses on The battery life icon is especially ridiculously small to read. Don’t get me wrong, it does the fitness bit but all this added on stuff- pay for your coffee, receive texts etc not relevant. But there again I’ll no doubt get used it!!!
I have been a regular Fitbit user for years now, and my Fitbit of choice has always been the Fitbit Charge series. I got this one as an update from my Fitbit Charge 4.
I usually get an upgrade because the strap breaks. That has been one constant about all Fitbit Charges, the hardware is robust and keeps on working. But it is the strap or the strap hinges that break.
The Charge 4 had plastic hinges for the strap, and once they had gone it was time for a new Fitbit.
Thankfully the Charge 5 has metal hinges for the strap, so that issue should not affect this model. But the soft plastic straps usually last between one and two years, and then you need to buy a new strap.
Previous Fitbit Charges have always had monochrome displays, so moving to a colour display on the Charge 5 is a huge deal. It is so much better. It is also a touch screen now, and you swipe left, right, up or down to navigate. No more pressing the button on the side to navigate. So the navigation is really easy now.
The Charge 5 also has the EDA Scan and the ECG. The EDA Scan measures your stress levels, you need to pinch the metal contacts on either side on the Fitbit for three minutes with your fingers, and then report how calm you feel, and the score shows up in the app on your phone.
The ECG is similar, again you need to pinch the metal contacts on the Fitbit for 30 seconds, and then it reports your heart health. Normal sinus rhythm means good. You can then see the results on your phone.
I had to do a firmware update on the Fitbit Charge 5 before the ECG appeared as an option on the Fitbit.
Overall I am really happy with my upgrade to a Fitbit Charge 5, the colour screen makes it look great. The navigation is now easy via the touch screen. It has EDA and ECG scans built in.
It is the best Fitbit Charge I have had so far.
I’ve had the charge 3 for years and because it decided to pack up on me I went for the charge 5 because I find a lot of the other fitness watches quite bulky. It logs more than the charge 3 which is good and the screen is clearer as well. I have rated it 4 because the battery doesn’t seem to last as long as the charge 3 battery did. I am charging it up every 3-4 days whereas the charge 3 would last over a week
I like all the features of this product especially the sleep monitor. My only problem is that I do my longest walks while pushing my baby granddaughters’s pram and these are the days that show the least steps. I hope to solve this problem by getting an ankle strap.
Bought a Fitbit for my wife to measure her fitness levels and to aid her fitness. It worked that well I bought one for myself.
Fantastic product! Very happy with both the band and app. Going forward, can’t do without them! The data provided by them is invaluable. I have learnt so much about my activity levels, fitness and sleeping patterns. Although the data might not be as accurate as I would like, they’re accurate enough to help me make informed decisions.
Better than expected and definitely an upgrade from the previous FitBit I had. It’s lightweight, bright display, syncs well with phone app + alerts phone activity on wrist so I don’t miss calls etc, small/ discrete so it doesn’t get in the way on wrist. And of course tracks fitness and general activity perfectly. Love it!
My Wife likes this watch.
She has not used all the features yet but is happy as she learns how to use them.
Having had previous Fitbit Charge 2 and 4 I upgraded to the 5.
I like the new style of strap as I have worn/split the previous ones with excessive use. This one seems to put less strain on strap.
However I find the new clock display abit bright. There is no option for a classic clock face with hands as on previous models.
Otherwise really happy with new Fitbi
I’m so pleased I got a fit bit and that I got this particular one love all the features it comes with and that it tracks my heart and sleep and most of all steps. After wearing it for a week it brought my skin out in a horrible rash, so I’ve had to change the strap. Fit bit should be aware of the issues people are having with the strap and should be either changing it or giving a different optio
A helpful tool for tracking and recording ones activity and metrics. I don’t think the sleep phases recording is very accurate but it does keep track of waking moments. The heart rate monitor and daily activity record help to encourage a more active lifestyle.
My first ever Fitbit and I’m quite impressed. Using for my new gym membership. Very good to see how I’m progressing and the food logging is very handy for tracking diet. Although this isn’t always accurate. Some food items when scanned come up with totally different nutritional information to what is on the packet. I have knocked a star off as the screen is very easily scratched, despite it being Gorilla Glass. I have a couple of minor scratches without knowing I’d done it. Also the strap as others have mentioned really doesn’t agree with my skin and has caused some sore areas on my wrist – see pics. Will be buying a different strap. Something to bear in mind if you have sensitive or allergy prone skin.
Good tracker.
Watch faces are poor. Looks like a three year old was let loose with a handful of felt-tips.
I like the various functions and tracking available on this fitbit. The heart monitoring and ecg is a bonus too. I am disappointed with the sleep tracking as it only does an in depth profile once every few weeks and I have tried everything to get it to work properly. Battery lasts a long time.
Everytime you move your wrist to look at the time it’s blank. You have to tap it ten million times. Charge 3 was much better desig
We bought this as we had to return our Fitbit Aspire which had decided not to sync after a week of owning it, this one is much better worked straight out of the box , The display is better and the functions good, I have marked it down a star as compared to our previous older Charge , the battery doesn’t last long , needs charging basically everyday , maybe because it has GPS ? Will have to have a play around with it. Otherwise apart form battery life its great and a fair price. The fitbit app is good and can connect to many other platforms
I’m a long-term Fitbit user and loved my Versa which just got old and unreliable. I chose the Charge 5 as it does all the things I need it to do. It’s easy to use, accurate in recording info. For me, a real problem is the strap. It brought me out in a nasty rash – I took it off, put it on the other arm – it caused a rash – I made sure it was clean and dry etc but the irritation it caused didn’t stop. I’ve just bought an alternative strap which seems to be working just fine.
It seems that I’m not alone in finding it unwearable as it comes. Come on Fitbit – offer an alternative strap with each purchase.
It has many features, most I will not use so I cannot comment. The heart monitor is pretty accurate after
2 failed attempts re a smart watch and tracker which I purchased. Although comfortable to wear I don’t think the design of the strap is the best although you do get 2, large and small but it is slightly awkward to do up and if you have any strap left over it goes under not over the previous bit. It seems you cannot get a graph of ones heart rate unless you wear the tracker at night, which I do not want to do. Other trackers/smart watches show a graph over several hours, which I think Fitbit should think about. After my 6 months free trail would I pay 79.99 for a year to keep to the Premium, certainly not. Different watch faces would be an extra bonus and staying visible a bit longer would help. Overall a decent tracker, well made.
