We have an acre paddock with a handful of fruit trees, this is great for picking up the grass after mowing, I’ve not tried it on leaves yet but it looks like it’s do the job.
Product exceeded our expectations, collects pretty much everything lightweight and leaves the heavier studs behind which is fantastic. DPD yet again lied by stating they ‘attempted’ delivery which was totally false only then to make us collect the product. With an inability to speak to absolutely anyone at the couriers, this is the only way of venting. Amazon, you need to sort this appalling attitude of your chosen couriers.
I have been surprised how good this grass collector is. Scarifying the lawn this picked up all the moss ect left behind. Easy to use and does the job. Pleased with product.
Very well made tool, feels very solid and the leaf collection bag is actually very effective with a simple attachment for removal. The collector is perhaps a little heavy to lift for storage but it does roll on its wheel’s easily. It does work as well, and collects leaves (best when dry) as well as some nuts that fall into my garden. The tool is very easy to push but you do have to experiment with the height adjustment, which is very easy to alter to suit. This tool makes leaf collecting much easier than using a rake and will also collect the debris that arises when I scarify my lawn – the debris collector is useless and always needs raking afterwards. So this is win / win for me. The price might push some towards a cheaper make but this Gardena tool works very well.
I have a lawnmower which collects the grass, and that is quite capable of collecting leaves as well. However, the twigs and thick leaf stems blunt the lawnmower blade, and it is noisy. This achieves the job well, and it is quiet.
It needs to be assembled from its parts, which takes about 30 minutes, maybe more if you are not so familiar with doing such things.
The business end of the collector, are hundreds of thin blue tines, which spin as you push the collector along.
The height of the collecting tines is adjustable, and in fact is very important to the success of using it. You will need to experiment for a while to find the perfect height setting for your scenario. Larger leaves and taller grass need a slightly higher setting, and smaller leaves or shorter grass need a lower setting. The lower the setting, the more the tines scrape on the grass, and the harder you will need to push. If you are going to pick up leaves from your drive (tiles or concrete), then you should use an even lower setting. I made a note of all the various height settings I use for each scenario, since I am unlikely to remember the specifics after a gap of a year.
Larger leaves are more likely to be grasped and collected. Smaller leaves have lesser success, as they sink into the grass layer more, and don’t always get picked up. If your garden has humps and hollows in the level, then leaves in the hollows will likely escape being collected, as they will be missed by the tines. I’m not sure why they call this a grass collector, as it is pretty poor at that job… In my opinion, don’t try collecting grass.
It is actually quite good at collecting the leaves. I would say in my garden that more than 95% of the leaves are collected on the first pass. 99% of the leaves are collected on the 2nd or 3rd passes, and the ones which are left are the ones which were going to be very difficult for the machine to collect anyway… the ones which have sunk deep into the grass layer or which are in a hollow in your lawn.
If you look at the photo of my garden, mid-collection, you will see a good level of success. The left side of the garden was initially done with a single sweep, and then an additional couple of sweeps were needed to pick up the initially missed leaves.
Note that the collector cannot be used to collect leaves right up to the fence. There is about 8.5cm between the edge of the wheels and the start of the outer tines, so on each side there is a gap where leaves will not be collected. I usually use a leaf blower to move the leaves away from the fence before starting with the Gardena Leaf Collector. Sometimes if the Gardena misses a single leaf, I will pick that leaf up by hand rather than turning the machine round for a second sweep. The leaf collecting bag is quite generous in size, and usually empties my whole garden of leaves without needing to empty a second time.
Finally, it should be noted that the wheels and body of the machine get quite dirty with bits of mud and previously cut blades of grass. I usually give the whole machine a quick hose with water to get rid of all of that stuff before putting it away. It’s not electric, so you can get every part of it as wet as you like !! Storage in the shed is easy… You just sit it vertically against the wall.
I’m happy with the purchase. I’ve had it for just over a year now, and nothing has gone wrong. The price was pretty high a year ago, and I’m sorry to say is even more eyewatering now.

Our garden has a big oak tree in the centre and I spend hours raking leaves each year. Wish I’d bought this ages ago as it makes light work of a laborious job.
Easy to assemble, well designed and collects leaves (even wet ones) and pine needles effectively. Worth going over the same area twice when grass is long and wet. Much better for the back than a rake.
Finally put it together – so easy unlike the compost tumbler.
Now the whole family gets involved in pushing to collect liquid amber seeds, no more leave matter. Note remove sticks in yard first. otherwise great way to collect leaves and love the easy sturdy carry basket. Spent a bit more with this more but both husband, son and I love it. The dog not so much.
This leaf collector has made my life so much easier. It was really easy to put together, bigger than I thought but not heavy. It is so easy to use, just push it up and down the lawn, like a lawnmower and the two huge brushes pick up all the leaves and put them into the large bag and because there is no motor it’s super light to use, I’m really pleased and will be recommending it to all my friends.
a.) unheimlich lange gedauert hat,
This leaf sweeper works a lot like the old fashioned carpet sweeper. It works great for our flame trees and liquid amber. I wish it held more because it’s picks them up so quickly it fills up.
Very pleased with this purchase.
Praktischer alles aufsammler . Gut verstellbar .
Pretty good at picking up dry leafs how ever not so good when they are wet.
Overall it works very well.
Assembly is a little challenging. It’s a strange construction, and the tubes are hard to push in the right places- but all doable.
And its worth it. Very simple and effective hand machine. Collection bag a good size, sometimes a few passes are required to fully clear. But really good overall . Pity the leaves, especially when damp are so heavy!
Molto soddisfatta.
The best way of clearing up fallen leaves I have yet found. Bought as a present last Autumn. Enjoyed using it. Recommended.
Piece of cake to assemble. Works a treat on my garden. My lawn has never looked better. Saves on a lot of back breaking raking. Love this product.
Purchased this to clear a customers orchard having read the reviews.. I was surprised at how easy it colected the leaves … It did require allot of emptying but then … There was allot of leaves …. All in all very good bit of kit….
Great quality product first and foremost. It was easy to build and the instructions were straightforward.
The machine itself takes a little getting used to but once you master height adjustment it’s really straightforward. The key is that you can’t set the machine too low in long grass as the sweepers won’t turn easily, but the instructions do explain what optimal settings should look like.
The result is that what would normally be a 2 person job (one taking one picking up) and plenty of back ache into a one person job. I could fill and compact 2 large wheeled bins (garden bins) in my own.
Only preference would be that they designed the product to have a larger basket to reduce number of times it has to be emptied.
However, if you have lots of leaves, and find clearing you garden is a weekly chore then this helps a lot.
Note: I have not tried this product on a patio
The leaf collector works very well makes the the job much easier would recommend
This little leaf muncher is amazing! It was so easy to put together. Easily folds for storage. It’s easy to push along and the slatted rollers just sweep up the leaves and twigs. It’s a bit bulky to pick up but that helps to keep it on the ground. No petrol! No battery ECO Friendly. Great ! I was really surprised.
This leaf collector is just a different class, dead easy to put together and just feels like something that is robust enough to last for many years to come. You can adjust the height of the fingers to suit your grass length, I keep mine quite long but it doesn’t have any issues with getting leaves that have sunk down to the lower level. It does take a couple of passes to get the majority of the leaves and does tend to spit a few bits out the front. There is a hack for that on the internet but it really doesn’t bother me too much to make changes. It is easy to store as well, with the collection bag folding flat so although it is quite big, it doesn’t take up much space in the shed.
I didn’t purchase from Amazon, found a different company that was considerably cheaper so pays to shop around. If you, like me, hate autumn because of leaves then this is the solution for you. It will pick leaves off a variety of different surfaces as well. Hard to find fault with it really.
Love this tool, I’m a professional gardener and I use it everyday great for lifting leaves but also for clearing thatch for a pristine ornamental lawn.
What a great find. 2 hours of raking our artificial grass reduced to 15 minutes. Would highly recommend this item.
There is a small amount of assembly involved straight out of the box but it’s fairly straight forward and only took me around 10 minutes to figure out. The item is quite large once assembled, it’s basically the size of a regular lawn mower but it does fold down slightly for storing and hangs or stands as needed.
The actual collector isn’t too heavy to move which is good and you can adjust the brushes to your own personal needs so if it isn’t picking up properly you can experiment for optimum performance.
To operate you simply push along like a lawn mower and the brushes spin around and chuck the leaves behind into the collector at quite a speed, it really does pick up leaves quickly and consequently you end up emptying it quite a lot, depending on the size of the garden but it’s so simple and much easier for me than raking. It works better on dry leaves so I make sure I do this before it’s due to rain, otherwise it gets messy and doesn’t work as well.
A great solution to collecting leaves quickly and easily, it also picks up most light debris on the patio and lawn and it’s fun to use! Recommended, perfect to save on raking.
I actually got this for clearing the driveway of fallen leaves as most of the mature trees in the garden only drop pine needles if any at all. The paved driveway is always covered as you can see in the picture. With the weather rarely being dry, testing this on wet leaves would put the collector through its paces.
It arrived in a very large box but I didn’t expect it to be as big as it is (around double the width and length of the lawnmower).
Ok down to business, it works quite well but I had to make several passes and still use a brush or rake to remove quite a few of the leaves, I was wondering at one point if I could do it faster the old fashioned way. The collector makes a little more sense on grass where a rake may tear at the lawn and not be such a smooth pass over debris.
Detail and things to note (See pictures):
Assembly is fairly straightforward but if you have limited dexterity you may struggle with the screws. The holes weren’t quite wide enough so I had to use quite a bit of force to twist the screw through the metal. Once it had pushed through, the remaining distance was fairly light work to screw in.
The collector is very large (I took a picture of it in the doorway to give you an idea of the width).
The wheels did get clogged up with leaves often which made movement a bit rough until I cleared them.
The collection basket fills up fast if you have a lot of debris to clear but the design works well and it’s easy to remove and empty.
On concrete many of the leaves are flicked forwards by the brushes rather than picked up so it was a delicate balance of brush height and speed to get it to pick them up.
Fairly light and easy to control, it also stands up well for storage but does take up room due to its size.
Final thoughts:
I still have to do quite a bit of manual collection and clean-up during and after using the leaf collector. It does help reduce the amount of work but generates its own at the same time. It worked well on the limited amount of debris in the garden on grass but didn’t perform as well where it was really needed (a paved driveway). I think for such a specific tool for a single job, it should work on more than grass but that’s my personal opinion.
I’d recommend it if you have a lot of dry leaf debris to remove or you have limited mobility to rake and bend. If you’re working with paving then I think I cleared mine faster with a brush.
It came in a big box and initially I was a bit intimidated by the assembly but it took less than 20 mins to fully assemble the leaf collector. The instructions provided were quite well detailed and the leaf collector itself is made from good quality sturdy materials.
I have used this a couple of times since I got it and overall the lawn sweeper works quite well and collects lots of leaves and small sticks which are lying on the lawn without affecting the grass. I am not sure about the longevity of this as the brushes inbuilt which do the collection of leaves don’t seem as sturdy as the rest of the device. I feel that the brushes will have to be changed at some point and I couldn’t find any way online to order a replacement brush. For my small garden, it goes quite fast and reduces my effort quite a lot.
Most of the leaves are picked up in the first pass through. However, one should not expect the lawn to be leaf-free afterwards. Some of the leaves tend to fall outside the container bag. But nevertheless, you have to take the device over the same track twice and there is hardly any foliage left.
Overall, I think this seems to make my job much easier but it does have some issues. I would still recommend this to anyone who has a large enough garden to justify the cost. 4 Stars
I’ve included a few photos of it and also a little video of the rotating function which I hope you find helpful.
It was pretty straightforward to assemble using the included instructions – I mainly looked at the pictures to do it. The only thing I couldn’t locate were the screws! However I found them eventually as they have been taped to one of the metal poles.
The whole thing is constructed from metal or plastic (apart from the bag obviously) and it feels very weatherproof. It’s also not that heavy to manoeuvre and the wheels are nice and chunky. The actual leaf collecting mechanism is pretty clever. As the wheels rotate forward the teal coloured rake-like spikes rotate and spear and scoop the leaves. These spikes are plastic. There is a height adjustment function at the front of the unit that you unscrew and then set the desired height before tightening the screw again. This can all be done by hand.
The stand up function is great if you need to tuck it away in a garage or shed as when horizontal it is quite large, comparable to a wide lawnmower.
Yes it doesn’t get every single leaf in the garden but it gets the majority and makes life much easier than raking and brushing.
Absolutely love this, it’s perfect for this time of year! Especially if you’re not looking for something with an engine/motor or something heavier but want something that is still effective and not too arduous. It’s really easy to move about and push around and very comfortable as you can choose the perfect height and it’s efficient enough to take it easy and enjoy a wander around the garden whilst using it without too much fuss (or noise!). It doesn’t take up masses of room when storing it flat standing so I’d rate it on that front too. It’s well made and solid despite reasonably lightweight for it’s size, it looks quite good too and seems robust enough to enjoy lots of regular leaf collecting over the next few months and am really pleased with it so would recommend.
If you spend over an hour collecting fallen debris in your garden, you will swiftly understand the benefit on this clever little tool.
Being manually powered makes it more environmentally friendly, not to mention healthier and cheaper to run than a petrol powered motor.
I used this on about an acre of land in these colder dewy and damp months, which normally takes about an hour to clear up in autumn with the fallen leaves using a wheelbarrow, a rake and a tough pair of gloves. I don’t have a fuel powered leaf blower unfortunately, but our groundsman, pre-covid did, which made his job simpler, swifter but louder!
This by comparison, is ergonomically designed, almost silent, and easy to push as it’s pleasingly lightweight. Plus you get the quality afforded by the Gardena brand and a rather great 5 year guarantee.
With the size of the land, I have to empty the collection bin several times. I keep my garden waste bin close to me so that I don’t have to go back and forth a number of times.
This cut my job to under 15 minutes as I left what it didn’t collect, which was a small amount of leaf litter, behind. Reasoning with myself that it’s good for the lawn and I know i’ll be back out agin with this sweeper in a fortnight as we have more leaf fall which is normal for this time of year. I will be giving the lawn a good scarify later on this month to remove all moss and leaf debris.
I love that it is quick, collecting most large leaf debris and those that are freely fallen. It doesn’t collect debris which is too small/broken down or allowed to remain on the ground for a long time.
If you have fruit trees, this sweeper will not work at collecting this type of larger or rounder structures.
4 stars
I found this easy to use, putting the collection bag on and taking it off to empty is very easy, the collector itself is much easier to push than I was expecting. I think it’s also very well built and overall it has done a fantastic job of clearing my garden of autumn leaves. I really like it and I recommend it highly.
