Well packaged. Premium quality and solved my issue with WiFi signal in the back of the house.

Easily set up and works great, wi-fi is excellent all around my my cottage with thick walls throughout. Always struggled with coverage before using expanders. Highly recommended.
I turned our Virgin Super hub into modem mode which works well. Be warned that you need to switch stuff off then on again to get the best signal after you’ve connected. Also the WiFi points will connect to the primary point automatically making it look like you have a weak signal. So move it further away so it gets an excellent signal with the nearest WiFi point NOT the primary point. I bought things so they can be attached to the wall neatly which is also great. Honestly, WHAT A RELIEF to have proper WiFi! I had to call for help first installing and they were brilliant. Really sorted it out – I had the points upstairs and downstairs before we worked out that upstairs was the best place for them. Delighted!
We were having issues with WiFi signal reaching all parts of the house, and the previous extenders kept dropping out. I have a multi-story townhome with thick brick walls. It was so difficult getting wireless Internet through my whole house until I heard about these. Now it’s blazing fast, and with seamless transition as I move about. Also, I love that the app allows you to prioritize certain hardware that’s connected. When I’m on an important video call or something I can be more sure it won’t drop or degrade in quality.
I bought this for my parents house with thick walls. Only issue is it requires IOS 12 or later. I pass them my older phones and iPads as I upgrade and none of their devices were new enough to install the product !! ( not that old ..IOS 10) I installed the system using my own phone so if you are buying this make sure you have compatible devices for set up. Apart from this it had worked seamless, looks good and has a strong signal. I will be purchasing a 3 pack for my own home.
I bought these in conjunction with a Draytek Vigor 130 modem. It was 19:47 and I had a Zoom family quiz scheduled for 20:00. I unplugged the existing modem/router, plugged in the new Vigor, connected the Google devices and was ready for the quiz on time. They just worked. Fantastic.
I ordered the Google home mesh along with a Draytek Vigor 130 modem, since the mesh is just a wifi router with no modem capability. I enabled bridge mode and disabled DHCP on the Draytek so it’s a simple pass-through and let the Google mesh handle the PPPoE (I have Post Office broadband which needs this). Make sure you download the Google Wifi set-up app BEFORE you remove your old set-up if you have no ability to download it via another route (4G, whatever). I initially downloaded the Google Wifi set-up app onto an Apple iPad to run through the set-up there. Powered up the DrayTek and modified as mentioned above. Launched the app, plugged in the first Google router and powered up. App walked me through the set-up including entry of the PPPoE credentials. Unfortunately, during set-up (somewhere after asking for a new network name and password), the app just barfed and told me that it was having ‘trouble registering my wifi point’ and to try again later (odd). I rebooted the router a few times and even uninstalled and re-installed the app (this time over 4G as I’d unplugged my old kit). Still no luck. Eventually I installed the Google Wifi app on my iPhone and hey-presto, it all went through fine. Tested network speed and there’s definitely an up-tick of around 18% on download speeds, although I can’t say if this is the result of the DrayTek or Google mesh. Smashing. Once set-up, the app is pretty neat and some of the features such as priority devices (for when I’m WFH) are really neat. So all in all, very pleased.
I wish Google would bring down the price, but I have to admit – the product is BRILLIANT. I have had wifi signal problems in my home and have changed providers 3 times. When I changed to my current provider they promised they had a brilliant super-duper router that had the best signal on the market (and yes, I fell for that line!). When I set the router up, same issues with wifi; called my provider and they told me: “it’s the walls. Your house has walls. The signal is being absorbed by the walls”. No joke. That’s what I was told.
Any way, I tried lots of stuff; repeaters, APs, Powerline etc etc and nothing worked.
So I tried MESH – I went for the BT Whole Home WiFi first. The installation was NOT as straightforward as the product promised. The second unit could not sense the first one even when they were NEXT to one another.
Finally I got to Google WiFi. I did think about getting the 3-pack because my house is on 3 floors, but opted for the 2-pack in the end (as I said, it is an expensive product). What can I say? It was as easy as the product said it would be. Open box; download app; position your units – and you are DONE! Perfect wifi all around the house.
I would recommend that you watch a couple of set up videos on youtube (there are loads and most are not that great, but you do get an idea of what to expect and how to install the units – it will give you that extra confidence to do the set up, even though the set up REALLY is VERY EASY).
I’m not going to give any technical details because all I wanted was a system that works – and I can tell you that this product works BRILLIANTLY.
If you have wifi issues around your house, buy this product.
We’ve got a converted 1950’s bungalow and I’m not sure what they built the walls out of, but they’re solid! For that reason there were a couple of rooms in the house that the Wifi was awful in, I’d tried various solutions already, Power line adaptors, WiFi extenders and nothing worked. A mate of mine recommended the Google mesh and at first I was sceptical, especially because of the price tag; knowing the issues I’d faced in the past the last thing I wanted to do was spend a small fortune on something else that didn’t work. I can only say it’s been a revelation! The kitchen was a black spot and I’m now getting 36mbs (max I can get as we’re not on fibre yet), the extension, which was awful, I was getting around 2mbs , I’m now up to 20mbs and can get decent streaming now as it’s consistent. We don’t have great mobile reception, but my WiFi calling now works without dropping calls. The product was super simple to install, as per other reviews download the app first before swapping things over. I maintained the same network name and password, just so I didn’t have to update all of our devices and it all worked well. One thing to note, the older google WiFi (which is the one I bought as I have some devices who connect via Ethernet – the newer nest points don’t have this); is not currently compatible with the newer nest points. I was surprised by this, I thought I might be able to add one of these, with the built in google home speaker to the Mesh at a later date, but apparently not. Therefore either go for one or the other, I went for the older version purely for the Ethernet port. Either way, I’m super impressed with the Google WiFi (so much so that I’ve taken the time to write this essay of a review!), yes it was a lot of money; but our dependence on good WiFi is only going to increase as our kids get older + I work from home, and this has made such a difference! Would highly recommend!
Bought this system after trying several WiFi extenders that were pretty much useless. So thought I would invest in the Google system after reading lots of reviews . At first I was a bit worried about the set up , but it couldn’t have been simpler, just downloaded the App & it literally took a few minutes ! . Now I can use WiFi throughout the house with no dropouts , even with our really slow internet speed it works brilliantly.Would definitely recommend this .

Not the cheapest solution, but so far 100% effective – always had issues with patchy wifi in our house. These Google hubs have completely solved the dropout areas. If you have the money and have issues with wifi in your home then order these.
Setup is simple, app to monitor is excellent via smartphone – can’t think of one negative!
Live in a small three bedroom house and I was still getting Wifi dead spots in my living room from the cable modem/router supplied by Virgin. A Linksys router did not solve this problem. So finally caved in and bought two pack google Wifi. It was easy to setup, solved my dead spots problem and it just works. Recommended.
If you are looking for a Mesh product, this is simple to install, superb wifi and the app is great. Slightly expensive but I use two for a large 4-bed detached house and we have total coverage.
So far it’s awesome, easy to setup and gives me solid WiFi in an old house with thick walls. On virgin broadband and this really makes the difference. If you are struggling with the ‘super’ hub then you need this.
I have a Virgin Hub 3.0 with Virgin 200mbps service. I have a 2300 sq ft home in the UK and I used to frequently have trouble in getting a good WIFI connection in rooms far away from the router. Typically I used to only get about 20 – 60mpbps in rooms that were further away from the router and upstairs. In the furthest away rooms I used to typically struggle to even get 20mbps, ,it was more like 10 – 15mbps. Also it was very inconsistent, constantly dropping wifi signal etc.
So I decided to get 3 of these Google Wifi points. Set up was super simple, took only a few minutes. I think the whole thing was up and running within 15 mins and my wifi connection in all the rooms is significantly better. Where I was getting 20 to 60bps, I’m now getting 110 – 130mbps and in the one room where wifi was really awful I now 60 to 90 mbps when I checked last.
Overall I’m really happy I got these as it’s improved the WIFI in our home considerably!
My house was built in the early 1700’s with walls 4 foot thick made of large stones and rubble. Wifi has always been a problem and I have 3 different networks to get the signal round the house.
Not any more with the Google mesh system. Three of their nodes gives me a full signal all over the house on just one network. No more remembering to change the network. Easy to set up from the app on your phone/iPad.
Might not seem cheap but it is worth every penny.
Our house was built in 1950 so has solid brick walls and I needed additional points to gain a good connection throughout the whole house. now that I have them however they are fantastic and the connection is strong throughout the house.
I have 3 at our house. It’s annoying that one on its own does nothing as it simply connects to the existing router but we now have signal in the garden and upstairs.
Fantastic bit of kit! We previously had a BT Home Hub router which gave us very poor signal quality. We swapped it for the Google system and we’ve never had a better connection! Its a little expensive but no regrets. Hightly recommend if you have connection problems!
We have an old Victorian house where we simply couldn’t get a signal in the back of the house from our Sky router in the front room. After buying a pack of 2 Google Wi-Fi units, we can now get a clear and consistent signal throughout the house and even at the bottom of the garden too!
Very easy to setup and with a host of features to limit Wi-Fi for certain devices, this is a top quality product and I’d recommend it to all those folks suffering from a limiting connection. Highly recommended!
Google WiFi is expensive considering it’s just WiFi – the is defiantly room for improvement on the software side of things where sometimes the app crashes or something just won’t work (like adding a new node).
While the software is easy to use it has less advanced network configuration settings than your standard router/wi-fi. I like that you use the mobile application for setup but as network engineer I would prefer a web interface too.
I like the options and tools such as “mesh test” in which it tests the quality of the mesh connection between nodes. Once the test is completely it will tell me either: “good, great or bad” with no other indication about the environment and metrics…
So as someone who works in the telco/networking industry I can tell you that this product could use some work.
Overall a good product that sorted my wifi range issues. Problem is with the lack of options left for the user for eg to set which band one want to use 2.4ghz or 5ghz. For some products installation like webcams your phone and the product needs to be on the same and if your phone sticks with the faster and your other product you want to set up is restricted to only 2.4ghz then you are stuck and have to play around until you can make your iphone to go with the slow speed, which only happens by luck as apple is another lovely product not letting users to set what you want.
2, i also expected easy way to restrict kids net usage but the family control is far from ideal , you need to create groups first.
Used a wifi extender before but the coverage wasn’t too great. Google WiFi is definitely a great buy, have extended the coverage all the way to the garage. It’s stable and very good.
Well we can all say that the router provided by internet supplier is just average and just doesn’t hit every corner in your home, well that has definitely changed with Google WiFi having the mesh network makes every room in the house a streaming dream plus the outside garden areas too!!
Original purchased the pack of 2 over 6 months ago but have also recently added another one and can say our coverage is at its max with no dead spots receiving full strength.
It’s also good as the firmware is constantly being updated the app is really simple but sophisticated as you can see everything you need from testing the speed to boosting specific devices connected even down to really complex network settings but works for beginners or advanced users.
This comes highly recommended as mesh network.
I must admit I am the sort of guy that nothing works as it should and there is always a glitch when installing new tech, but none of it just a quick scan of the QI code on the bottom of the “puck” then it was so simple to install with easy to follow instructions and screen updates to confirm what it’s doing and “nearly there” and “the wait will be worth it” messages reassured me and I left it to get on with it for a few minutes.
Then I connected the second “puck” following the simple instructions again,
Connecting to my broadband was simple I used the same SSID and password as my old router and bingo everything started to connect as normal.
I did have a small issue when connecting my CCTV cameras with regard to IP reservations and port forwarding but a quick search on Google put me straight, the trick is to let Google assign the IP address for your NVR and not to try and use the one that you set for the old router, once I did that I could see the IP address I needed and it was simple to reserve and port forward as required.
I also found out that with my Sonos speakers it’s best to unplug each speaker from the mains, leave it for 30 seconds or so and then plug it back in, since doing that it’s back to being faultless again.
And for anything else that either doesn’t connect as it should just quick unplug for 30 second or a couple of minutes seems to sort it out perfectly.
The App is really good and it gives you so much more information about your mesh system and how it’s operating.
I have only had this for a few days but Wifi range and signal strength are spot on, I’ll report back in a few weeks on how that side of things are going.
But as for the install process and if your daunted by configuring a “normal WiFi router” then get one of these and fear not. they could not have made it simpler.
So I’ve tried a number of branded Wifi extenders in my time and they’ve never quite delivered what they claim. So when we recently moved home and I was having issues receiving WiFi in my office at the rear of the property I was stumped as to what to do until I found the Google WiFi hubs. And I am seriously impressed.
Very simple to set up via the instructions in the box and the Google WiFi app (which is also very clever).
Everything connected of its own accord, downloaded an immediate firmware update and that was it.
I bought the twin unit kit and out the second unit in my office & I’ve had excellent, fast connectivity since.
Yes they are pricey but the old adage you get what you pay for is never more apt than for these units.
Highly recommended.
Easy to install, easy to setup and it works! Twice as fast as the Netgear Nighthawk it replaced. Our’s is an older house with brick walls and concrete floors throughout, plus a couple of extensions. Previously we’ve tried everything. At least 4 different routers, range extenders and over powerline ports. Nothing gave good coverage and speed. We lost at least half of the internet speed we were paying for on even the best ‘solution’. We have two devices. Oh and the app works well. On price, I think it’s reasonable to begin with, but given the instant improvement over everything else we’ve owned it’s a steal.
I previously bought a Google OnHub – Using the router in the UK when the product was only ever made for US markets. The router arrived broken, but Google gave me the same support as I would have received in the USA, spending hours troubleshooting the product with me. This is the same support team for Google WiFi.
I replaced that with the Google WiFi (pack of 2) and everything is working perfectly. Compared to the previous Virgin Media router in the same location speeds are increased by around 10% even close to the router, and further away the gains are much more significant.
I have purchased 4 (cheaper to buy 2x2packs) to give excellent coverage in a 4 bedroom 3 storey victorian house (and it gives reasonable speed to the bottom of the garden). I can get my max (100mbs) data transfer from everywhere in the house. The back haul isn’t as high as some of the other systems available, but with only me and the missus, it’s never going to be an issue for me.
Setup is a breeze, only thing I needed to do that was slightly non-standard was to change the DHCP to use a ‘custom’ IP range as I’ve got devices with static IP of 192.168.1.X. But being Google, it was easy enough that I didn’t even need to search how to do it.
I don’t need to use prioritisation, nor family settings so can’t comment on those. If you want solid mesh WiFi, with zero hassle, this is the answer.
It’s not the cheapest, nor the fastest, but unless you’ve got multiple devices using a LOT of bandwidth at the same time, it’s more than enough. And I was happy to pay a few quid more for something that just worked.
Happy customer and would happily recomend.
Very straightforward after that, and they’ve only gotten better. I started off with about 40Meg in my bedroom (where before I was getting nothing) and now I’m running at 110Meg throughout my entire apartment. Highly recommended, the app is great, and I love that guests have their own separate network.
Well it seems to have cured my total lack of wifi in the deepest darkest corners of my house (insert Joseph Fritzel joke here) – crazy easy to setup – lack of a web interface kinda sucks but the mobile app does the essentials so i will let it slip.
Set up:
1. Downloaded Google Wifi app to phone
2. Wired primary puck to my Sky Q router
3. Disabled wifi on Sky Q router (2.4GHz and 5Ghz)
4. Set up Google Wifi in the app and called my network the same name as the original Sky Q
5. Set up secondary puck in bedroom – Wifi app recognised second puck and created a mesh network
All devices seamlessly connected to new Google Wifi network and there are no more disconnects from certain devices like I always got with Sky Q
The only issue is that it creates a new subnet so if you have a NAS or something wired that you connect to be aware that it will put it on a new subnet and you’ll need to make a note of the new IP address.
That’s it. Now getting perfect Wifi coverage in entire flat. Very pleased.
We subscribe to Virginmedia 300Mbps and have never got anywhere near decent speeds unless something was plugged directly into the homehub which is no good for anywhere else in the house.
I was toying with the idea of cabling the house up with ethernet cable retrospectively but the cost and upheaval has put me off for some years.
I did read something about ‘mesh network’ systems some time ago but the cost of that was also prohibitive at the time but thought to check on prices in the future.
And here we are!
Tried to keep up with what was on offer every now and then and one day these popped up on a lightning deal, the same day that one of my wifi extenders gave up the ghost.
Ordered the pack of 2 as with the deal price it would be cheaper to add a third at a later date than buy the pack of 3. I wasn’t sure if the 2 would be enough for the size of my house.
Next day I set them up, disabled the wifi of my Virginmedia homehub and put it into router mode, plugged in the Google wifi hubs, all told, everything was up and running within 30 minutes.
Fantastic! Great wifi everywhere in the house, upstairs and downstairs, the external cctv, wifi to exterior lighting controller which is 100ft down the garden from the opposite end of the house to the homehub.
Fast HD movie streaming via wifi – I have plugged in an 8 port network switch to the 2nd Google hub but the wifi to my devices is just as fast so not really using that.
This is with just the pack of 2 so I’ll have no need of another.
Had it set up for over a month but thought I’d wait before adding a review in case of problems but there has been no problem with any device and connections have been rock solid.
The app is very intuitive and automatically checks on your connections every day or so and adapts itself to give you the best throughput, also has plenty of information regarding how much data each device has used / is using.
Brilliant bit of kit and only wish that this was available at this price point years ago!
Super impressed with Google WiFi! Had very bad WiFi upstairs in the house and now it’s super fast! Looks much better than my basic WiFi router which I’ve hidden out of sight (after enabling router mode on it). Would definitely recommend.
