Used whilst watching the London Marathon when it was pouring down and stayed dry as a bone.
This is the third time I have bought this jacket. It’s a nice quality item, good looking, well priced. Lightweight but waterproof. Reasonably stylish for a rain jacket, so nice to wear out in the city.
A very nice coat, only small gripe is the upper pocket is inside the coat zip so you have to undo your coat to get to your mobile phone if it is in this pocket.
Its my fifth in ten years. If it gets dirty – Wash in the washing machine with a gentle detergent. Then tumble dry as advised by Helly Hanson. Washing and tumble drying properly triggers the water proofing to continue working. I bought a cheap knock off half as much but lasted a quarter as long and looked like crap after a month. Its worth it to buy a quality product.
Bought two (one black and one green) of these for my sons. Excellent quality as you’d expect of this brand. The green is stunning and I’m tempted to get one for myself. The fit is wonderful especially on an athletic frame.
I like this product because it is excellent quality.
and a good fit.
Looks great , very comfy and warm my partner is over the moon with this jacke
Layered correctly this will make you look extremely handsome and keep you warm. The chicks will check you out on the street and up a mountain.
I live this kit. They lose a star for breath ability and sweat but it’s far superior to an NF jacket of higher price.
If you buy it you will most likely be happy.
Changed my review. This is the best jacket you will ever buy. The best.
You can even sit in your house naked but with this jacket on. Buy this jacket.
Nice jacket and lightweight, obviously now it’s Spring so haven’t really tried it in cold weather, but night time temperature has dropped to 12/8 Celsius and not a problem.Even day time temp has increased to 18/19 Celsius and no sweating carry a day pack on my back, just cool and dry, rained recently and kept me perfectly dry.
Would advise going one size bigger than normal as I’m 5ft8inches and medium size come just below my waist, advise getting a size larger if planning on wearing a fleece underneath for that bit of extra room.
Cuff Velcro fasteners changed for metal pop in type & keep coming undone, now better quality Zip 2x previous ones both Zips had problems
I bought this as a present for my son for Christmas. He is a dog walker and needed some proper waterproof gear. I bought size S and it fits him perfectly. He likes wearing it and it keeps him dry. He has now worn it a couple of times in very heavy rain and it still keeps him dry. It’s a lovely jacket, lightweight and easy to wear and put on. Worth the money
I bought this as a Christmas present for my brother. For health reasons he has recently lost a lot of weight and has gone from XL to M-ish, so I swithered about size. I finally went for L and it fits perfectly with a bit of room for a jumper but not baggy. It looks smart on and he likes it.
So far, quite happy. Fits well but I do recommend getting a size up. The look of the jacket is pretty good although a little bit shiny which I would’ve preferred to be more matte black. For the price I am quite happy, due to test more up north England next week. I prefer this to the fit of North face which is a little bit surprising.
Arrived this afternoon just as the heavens opened, perfect timing I guess… I’ve tried different brands, but I always come back to Helly Hansen, can’t beat the quality, wear and tear.
No point writing a review of a jacket like this when you take it out of the package. Yesterday walking the Devon south coast, 15 miles of rain, wind, fog and I was snug as a bug. Ok when I got home the sleeves of my fleece were a bit damp but I’d been in the rain for 7 hours! The hood is great design, doesn’t blow off in the wind and it’s warmer than my furry hat.
You can’t hear a word I’m saying in the video attached but you’ll get the idea of the conditions. And the jacket’ s not even fully zipped up.
Worth every penny and it helped make my treck an absolute joy.
Well done HH.
Yet to try this in heavy rain, which is surprising to admit since I’m in the UK… So far I have no complaints. There are two outer pockets and one inner. The pockets are kind of small but my phone seems to fit fine, just feels a bit small if that makes sense. No outer chest pocket. I’m 173cm and a 29″ waist. Small fits perfectly, even with a fleece underneath (does not feel tight with the fleece)
Great coat for sailing, walking the dog or popping to the pub. Surprisingly warm as it is wind proof. I’m very pleased with it. Wore it for several hours in the rain sailing and it kept me dry.
I’ve bought this to be used in the rainy Peak District and it did its job. It is also quite warm, despite how thin this is.
I didn’t get wet at all, and I like the style. Good stuff!
Ideal windbreaker/showerproof light weight jacket. Always check the size before ordering as size designates are different per supplier and costs can vary a lot with just one size larger. Very pleased with the jacket.
seems good quality rain jacket – however only time will tell how long it will last.
Do buy one size up – I am normally a size M but this time size L fits a lot better.
The only tiny gripe I have is that the inside breast pocket can only be accessed by and doing the external zip. The Berghaus jacket I had before (albeit a lot more expensive) allowed access without opening the jacket.
Very good quality jacket (with good style and colour) as expected with HH brand. It is my every day jacket now.
Just be aware that the Helly Hanson logos are very visible at front, back, both sides and inside.
Very nice jacket. This is my second one. The model has slightly changed with fasteners instead of Velcro. I preferred the Velcro for ease of use but still a nice fitting well made jacke
So far 100% waterproof , good generous fit not baggy , good lite weight jacket, ideal for wet chilly day’s haven’t been out in freezing conditions, but I don’t think it’s meant for that unless you layer up ..
For many years I tried to find a decent winter jacket and the best I had was a Helly Hansen one about 10years ago. So when I was buying a new one 2yrs ago I went back to HH and have not regretted it. Now that it was time to replace my rain jacket I decided to stick with them rather than be disappointed again. This did not disappoint. Great design, a good selection of pockets and it feels like it will last due to the attention to detail in the manufacturing. It’s a little heavier than I had expected and it definitely retains heat so maybe on a hot showery day it won’t be ideal but the vast majority of days it will be perfect.
Despite having been mistaken for the postman, I love this jacket, just what I wanted for rainy days in the winter. Only drawback, as pointed out by other reviewers is that it’s not terribly breathable, so not ideal for warmer days.
I have to admit, I was initially really torn over getting this at a selling price of 70.
Some of these brands can be difficult to get the sizing right, but I found a shop locally that was selling the quilted version in a XXL for 89 and it was a nice fit. For reference, I’m around 6’4″ and just over 110kg.
I opted to buy the quilted version, and this non-quilted version to partner with a fleece to see which I preferred. Ultimately, I ended up liking them so much, I ended up keeping both! (And having just spotted the Racer GBlue version for 36, bought that too).
The Dubliner is just a really nice jacket. This non quilted version is roomy without being baggy. It has good storage options with two zipper pockets and one internal breast pocket on the left hand side, really handy for keeping your phone in when out for a walk.
In Donegal, things can get windy and rainy in a hurry, and this jacket has seen some bad weather recently and passed the waterproof and windproof tests with flying colors.
The thing I prefer in the non-quilted version over the quilted, is the fastenings up the front of the jacket – the quilted jacket has velcro, which admittedly is easier to do up in the rain whilst wearing gloves, but I find with repeated use, velcro can look pretty untidy after a lot of use, and I always have a fear of it possible tearing. The pop fastening system on this just feels a bit more premium, despite it being a cheaper version of the same Dubliner line.
The racing red is a really visible vibrant color too.
I think the reasons I have rated 4 rather that 5 is that I find the hood a bit fiddly to put away and look tidy again. The pictures show a nice flush straight color, but I find you do get a bit of a wingtip effect once you have used it a few times as the hood, when rolled up, doesn’t quite reach the ends of the collar, leaving them folding outwards a bit. This isn’t anything major, but having paid 70 for the red, and found the blue later for 36, you feel a bit like you missed out on a bargain – at that price it’s a rock solid 5.
