Stavolta perfetta!
This is a great lightweight (shower) waterproof jacket. The design and filling of the jacket means that it isn’t particularly rigid and has a great degree of flexibility so can be very comfortable when walking et cetera. Do you notice straight away as soon as you zip up the jacket that you will feel warm but at no point does it get hot and I can only put that down to the clever fabric technology. It has a good level of resistance to wind and you can also Velcro the cuffs and pull the drawstrings on the jacket to get a more Snugfit. The fit for me was exactly as described and there is a size chart shown on the item listing in case it is relevant I found it fitted pretty much exactly as my berghaus waterproof coat does in the same size. I particularly liked the front zip pocket and internal zipped pocket both of which were ideal for keeping things like mobile phones wallets and keys in.
Never owned a Helly Hansen – and I still don’t – as as soon as my 15 year old son saw the coat, he wanted it. Fair enough. We got a L and this is still on the big side for him as he is quite petite for his age, but the cuffs are velcro so we could adjust the size.
The coat is pretty thin but the insulation is excellent. We went to a footy match on a chilly even and he said he didn’t feel cold. Because it is on the larger side for him, he could wear a thicker jumper underneath, so that helped.
Obviously at this price point, the coat is really well made and the quality is excellent. There are two side pockets and zippered ones on the left breast on the inside and outside.
The zip can be zipped up to the neck and the waist has a drawstring, which keeps the wind out.
This is a really brilliant coat. Nice and thin, but warm with plenty of zippered pockets for your phone/wallet, etc.
I really like the fact that the branding is quite subtle too.
I’m on the generous side of Large these days, and this jacket fit me like a glove. I would say that if you are a biggish Medium or smaller Large, you could layer this up, too. The jacket has a padding of some description, which is thin and light yet also very warm. I’ve only worn it down to 6 degrees celsius, but it coped with just a t shirt underneath quite admirably.
I like the shade of black this jacket comes in and also pay kudos to the manufacturer as the logo is nice and subtle. I’m in my 50s and I don’t want a brand name to be massive and in neon lettering. Discreet is the order of the day….
The collar is good, and comes high up the neckline, so will also keep things nice and snug when the weather dictates wrapping up. I like this coat and think it represents good value for money. Recommended.
Got the Large one in Grey and it’s really a very good coat. I’ve had all sorts of semi-professional and professional outdoor gear and this measures up in this category easily.
Quality is excellent, and it looks & feels great.
The waterproof fabric is well made and works really well. It keeps the wind and rain out while keeping you warm inside.
Only thing I think would improve this for general use is a hood of some type? Having said that, it’s more tailored toward sailing style so I’d not really expect a hood on a garment like that, you’d typically use a rain hat if anything? The collar is nice and high and coupled with a rain hat if needed it more than does the job.
A great fitting coat too, and looks great on.
Insulation is quite thin but highly effective too, I think it might be multilayered fleece or similar, but either way it’s comfortable and very warm indeed, even with one base layer underneath.
Has large outside side pockets, and the left breast has an outer and inner pocket, all zipper closures.
Around the waist is the usual elastic toggle drawstrings to tighten to keep the wind out.
Given the brand name (for those like me who are uninterested in branding) the labelling and badges are fairly inconspicuous in colour so you’ll not necessarily be “labelled” when wearing this, which I actually prefer. I’m not one to buy items for brand name.
Overall there’s everything to shout about with this coat, it’s quality is very good, the waterproofing is excellent as is the insulation, there are plenty of pockets and the waist & wrists all have adjustable closure to keep out the cold. I’ve had overcoats like this that cost twice as much (kid you not!) so at 140 at the time of this review the question is, is it worth the money?
Well, if you know your stuff and are looking for a lightweight but highly effective coat of this kind then yes in my experience and opinion it’s worth every penny of it. As I said, I have coats that cost twice that and I have to admit they’re good but they aren’t as good as this one. I’ve been rather impressed with this.
Very happy with this coat, it will last a few winters I reckon. That’s if I can get it back off my daughter, she’s already pinched it and is out wearing it!
I hope this has been helpful 🙂
This was nicer than I expected. The jacket is very light and even soft feeling, but still water-resistant. There are two hip pockets, and front and inner chest pockets, so plenty of storage space. You can also tighten the hem, to keep out draughts or make it look a bit neater.
The sizing on the Large seems about right with nice long sleeves which mean your wrists won’t get wet or cold. They also have velcro fasteners. The neck is high and wide enough not to be tight, so well designed. There’s a very light and thin padding in the lining to increase the warmth without adding bulk, but on cold days you’ll need a mid layer.
I like that there’s no gaudy branding, all very subtle. All in all, this is a very decent jacket and well worth a look if you want something light to keep you warm and dry.
