Bought Charcoal but received ebony, to be honest, I prefer it so happy enough, not sure if it’s a one off or not but I’m sure I read a review that said the coats darker than in the pictures so bear in mind you may get a slighter darker jacket with the HH in black. (My opinion better)
I did a lot of shopping around for a waterproof coat ahead of a long day walking up and down Snowdon. I finally settled on this jacket and have been more than happy with it. Even with the miserable conditions that Snowdon threw at us, this jacket did exactly what I needed it to! Very warm, very dry and very comfortable.
I bought this as my low-priced, very waterproof but rather fragile Frogg Toggs jacket developed some tears after two whole years of use.
I’d had a Helly Hansen jacket as a birthday gift from my daughter, but I left it in the cinema, and it walked. Feeling flush and seeing this was cheaper than expected, I bought it. The fit is good, and it’s surprisingly warm (okay, it’s been a warm patch. It nevertheless seems warmer than its weight and thickness implied).
If I find it is not waterproof, then I’ll add to this review and drop a star. But my previous HH had kept me dry in very heavy downpours. I expect this will, too.
I have been using this jacket as an outer layer when it’s windy, rains or snows. It offers great protection for any inner layers I am wearing. The material is strong and feels sturdy. Yet at the same time it feels very light and could easily be packed away into a backpack.
I would highly recommend this jacket for anyone who needs an outer shell for either hiking or just winter conditions. Remember that this is an outer shell and is useful to amplify the effect of softer inner layers. If you’re wearing a warm sweater, this jacket will make it extra warm.
It is of course water proof, so you can wear it in rainy or snowy conditions without fear of the moisture sneaking inside. So far, I always take this jacket with me and put it on whenever the conditions turn for the worst or I just need an extra couple of degrees of warmth.
In spring/fall or when I hit higher elevations in summer I plan to bring this jacket along with me as a main outer shell but with thinner inner layers.
In terms of appearance, I really like the dark navy look.
As with all jackets, beware of the sizing. It does not look drab and sits well on my frame. I am 5’7 145lbs and I ordered a small. With a small size, I am able to fit a down jacket inside. Without any other layers, it does hang a bit.
I would not recommend it as a rain jacket because of the sizing. If you want a rain jacket for warmer weather (15 degrees+) order a smaller size.
Overall, at the price of around $100CAD or just above, it is an excellent investment.
This is clearly just a shell jacket so don’t expect warmth. Other than that this is an excelent purchase
I’m really enjoying this jacket, fits really well for me (6ft2 height) (18stone) (Beer gut) And it slims me down great!
I bought the XXL and the hood is nice and the jacket is rather comfertable in heavy rain although a light sweater under it is recommended.
Only real con about this jacket is the inside pocket is on the right side and not on the left, I prefer my inside pocket on the left because i’m right handed…but i’m sure that’s not a big deal for most right handers…i’m just nit picking, this is a really good jacket and worth the money…the zip pockets on the sides are nice too, nice and deep! huhuh.
Great Coat. Bought for construction company uniforms. Keeps the guys warm and dry. Will buy again.
Does what I need it for keeps out wind and good in rain.
I needed a waterproof jacket for an upcoming trip, this fit the bill perfectly
I like the style, design, and it fits well on me. Umm, but I guess it is in fact not that breatheable.
Bought this jacket for my son. It fits great and he was very happy.
I own a few Helly Hansen jackets. I like the way they combine style and functionality. This seems to be one of the more basic, no-frills designs in their range. There’s no insulation in this jacket, just a thin mesh lining under the waterproof polyester shell, which has a slight eggshell sheen to it. It’s very light, and can be easily folded up and stowed away in a bag.
There are Velcro tabs on the cuffs, and alongside the main zip, and also on the single inside pocket. There are zips on the two outside pockets. All the pockets have the same mesh lining, which doesn’t look particularly strong. The bottom of the jacket has a drawstring adjustment, as does the permanent hood. There is a soft chin guard on the collar for when the jacket is fully zipped up. One small annoyance is that the Velcro on the cuffs occasionally attaches itself to the Velcro on the front of the jacket if my arms cross my chest. Another slight problem is that if you put anything heavy, even a loaded wallet, in the inside pocket, the whole jacket tends to droop on that side unless the front zip is done up.
I bought the small, which is a good fit for me (5’11”, 36″ chest) when worn over one or two layers. If I’d been planning to wear it over a suit jacket, I would probably have had to go up a size.
