Great product. Bear in mind that it will be heavy on your wais
Looks great. Still need to try it but it’s what i wanted
I’ve used this lock on a particularly popular bike I own and it has done an excellent job at stopping would-be thieves dead in their tracks. It uses a deep slot rail key which makes it much more difficult to be opened with a lockpick. Right out of the box it comes with three keys with a free online registration allowing you to purchase more if your current keys ever go missing. Wearing it around my waist is comfortable although it does sag whilst walking. However, when on the bike it remains planted and secure and doesn’t affect the cornering ability whatsoever. The chains are thick and durable and wide enough to securely fit between my rear wheel and frame, and with a gold rating, this lock brings the guarantee of having the best protection level available. HIGHLY recommended.
This is my second Hiplok, I had the first one 7 years ago. They have been upgraded quite a bit since then. This one feels more secure around my waist. The first one was just a velcro fastening, which was becoming prone to coming undone. Not ideal when you are hurtling down a hill.
Although quite heavy, you don’t really notice it when you are wearing it and I think that makes it much more versatile than the D-locks.
I like the super reflective cover too.
The only downside is that the key and lock are no longer curved.
Anyone trying to carry a lock and chain will know how difficult this can be. Quality locks and chains tend to be quite heavy and bulky. This combination is a refreshing, and pleasant change because it can be carried round ones waist, or over ones shoulder. I really enjoy using it, and I have confidence in its security.
The chain and lock are real heavy duty a real deterrent to bike thieves. The ties are a great idea as bike wheels now are quick release so easy to take, these ties are alot more robust than they look.
Quite stops looking new – lots of scratched on the reflective cover, but it’s so handy! The size is perfect for fitting around most things and I love that it’s flexible. Only downside is that it can’t be tightened that well around my (female, average-ish) waist/hangs a bit loose when walking with it (not so much an issue when cycling)
his is great and with the belt clip the chain can be worn around waist. it is heavy. the quick release clips are very usefull and for a bit of peace of mind and inconvenience for robbers they work well
It could have been a bit longer chan
It fits nicely round the waist and is comfortable and not too heavy
I needed a lock which was gold rated to satisfy my insurance company and didnt want a u-lock. There is no such a wide range of chains as secure and this one appealed due to the ease of carrying. Really pleased with it so fa
Great bit of kit, wish I’d bought it sooner! Very very sturdy and solid, heavy but barely noticeable once it’s on. The sizing is just right and very easy to use, definitely recommend for those needing a substantial lock to meet those insurance requirements. Get one and keep your steed safe!
I bought this. The item is HEAVY. It does not make cycling fun. I did wrap it around the frame rather then the put around hips. Putting on frame, makes the the cycles slightly off balance and I think it contributed to me loosing balance and falling to side. Luckily, nothing major.
WARNING: Just make sure you lock it properly. The first time I used it, I made a mistake (as still a novice to theproduct). I tied the black strap and locked the padlock, but you have to make sure you put the other side of the chain is inside the padlock. (I hope that makes sense).
Good points. You need a key to lock it, so you can’t accidentally lock the padlock.
Looks well made, but most of these locks can be defeated.
Sturdy and robust but too heavy to wear as a belt.
It does a put a strain on your waist whilst you are cycling and it will definitely keep sliding down to your hips.
This is an excellent heavy duty bike chain and meets the criteria of my insurance and feels really secure. Whilst it is heavy the simple idea of having around your waist makes it easy to carry. Note that the chain is shorter than the complete webbing that goes round your waist. In use, it just manages to go around a lamppost and the bike. So make sure you check your measurements. I would recommend if you are on the robust size like me but if you are petite like my wife you may wish to think about a sturdy Sold Secure recommended D Lock (I have both). Finally there is a bit of a knack to locking and unlocking.
The notion of wearing the chain does actually work and on the bike the weight is not noticeable. The adjustable buckle does slip gradually so needs adjusting every couple of outings and the shackle can be fiddly, but a 10mm chain is always going to be some sort of encumbrance, just a shame that we need them. Just long enough to get round the triangle, the back wheel and a fixture.
Solves the problem of how to carry a gold secure lock . Rather heavy around 5lbs , feels heavy when first worn but soon becomes far less noticeable when on the bike . Also extremely visible at night .
It’s thick, and heavy (which it has to be to earn the gold rating from Sold Secure), but the wearable design means that you hardly notice it once you’re in the saddle. And then, once you get to your destination, there it is, without having to get it out of your backpack, or unclip it from a (possibly muddy) mount on the frame.
I’m vey happy with the sturdiness and thickness, its actually cheaper in the shops only by a couple of quid, but during lockdown ordering threw shop means waiting up to four weeks, this lock will definitely keep my bike safely locked up
Most locks in this price class will provide a good level of protection against theft. In addition though this one is easy to carry around your hips and acts as an additional reflector.
Well it’s certainly a hefy bit of kit, I don’t think you’ll worry too much about your bike with this on.
I had no trouble with this sat around my middle, yes it’s heavy but as the weight is all on your hips it’s barely noticeable while walking or cycling recreationally.
Drawback? If you decide to loop a cable through the wheels and back to the lock, you’re going to struggle. The chain is very big and won’t take a cable and the padlock has limited room around it so as to stop leverage attacks. Not impossible to lock but may take 3 or 4 attempts to get it in a position where it will actually shut properly.
Like many I bought a bike during lockdown so needed a lock to keep it safe. Decided this looked like just the job as it’s a gold standard lock.
It’s really heavy duty steel chain, and when I say heavy duty the emphasis should be on the word heavy. The design is great in that it has the clips so you can wear it around your waist, the problem is the weight makes it uncomfortable to wear like this. The lock itself is quite fiddly to close and lock with the key at the same time, mostly due to the weight. It’s long enough to work well and it should deter all but the most prepared of thieves with some power tools.
Well thought out like all Hiplock products seem to be (I also own the Hiplock DX which is excellent). Feels a bit heavy when worn initially but you soon forget it’s round your waist and weight of chain feels a lot better when it’s time to lock up your bike. Reflective cover on the white version is an additional safety feature and the chain is long enough to lock up my eMTB frame and rear tyre to an immovable object.
This hiplok was sturdy and great
However it had to be returned because the clasp was so stiff to use I cut my hand on two occasions when practising how to use it. I think it is faulty hence my return z I have studied the videos and they fasten the clasp to the waist really easily.
A clever idea to carry a bike chain. I didn’t want a chain or shackle lock that I had to carry in a bag or attach to the bike. I barely notice this when wearing it and it’s a strong enough lock to deter thieves I hope.
This is a heavy duty gold standard bike lock which satisfies bike insurance requirements. While heavy in weight it is long enough to secure 2 bikes against a fixed point I.e. a bike rack. I feel confident that our expensive bikes will not be stolen when left in town using this lock
Great secure lock.
It isn’t light in weight but once on its very comfortable and I had to check it was still around my waist, which it was but really comfy and soon forgot about the weight even when riding my road bike on a 70 miler.
Easy to use but top quality.
It may not be cheap but nor is your bike.
I’ve only ridden a bike three times whilst wearing the Hiplock so these observations are therefore sincere but limited. Obviously I have to trust the security rating but that said the Hiplock certainly appears to be a well made, high quality lock and chain. It’s a brilliant idea. I like the covering of the chain, which is durable and washable when the time comes, and the easy waist fastening/releasing using the plastic clip. The large key is not double sided so one needs to look at the lock when inserting it, but practice will make that more instinctive. A little practice is also needed to quickly unbuckle, put the chain around the bike and then padlock it – and to reverse the process so that the padlock is not on the same side as the retaining clip, which prevents you securing the chain around your waist! But again that’s only practice. Surprisingly, the weight is not really noticeable on rides of about five miles, particularly when wearing a few layers of clothes. I think this is an excellent product and I shall use it all the time for my commuting bike, which I leave with three locks securing it, and when touring, when it can sit in a pannier if need be. However, I find it too heavy for a day ride wearing thinner clothing and certainly ‘overkill’ when making a coffee stop with other riders, particularly if the bike is within view.
Excellent, very sturdy bike lock. No one this far has tried to nick my bike, so hard to tell exactly how strong it is but seems to be working as a deterrent! Is quite heavy to wear but not too bad.
Reasonable price for gold standard top of the range best lock out if all chain locks to use also not heavy while biking up hill, easy to use, . Brilliant lock down side chain bit smaller than I expected if it had 1 or 2 more links on it it wud be perfect to lock round my full suspension mtb and bike locks. Apart from that defo worth buying it’s a MUST HAVE!!
This + mudguards = cycle to work wearing whatever you want, whenever you want, without a backpack making you sweaty! The freedom to whizz around the city afterwards knowing your bike is safe wherever you leave it is peace of mind.
The clasp is solid around your waist, but leaves you slightly paranoid it will come undone and the chain will fall into your wheels! I just take the leftover strap and put it through the lock for a double knot.
Probably the best bike lock I have bought really really strong thisthis is the second one I have bought bought one for my son to really great it’s wearable and just goes round your waist don’t really know it’s there when you’re riding
This is one solid and safe bike chain. It does weigh a fair bit but the whole point is that it’s super strong, and can be worn like a belt to spread the weight load when you’re cycling. Well worth purchasing over any cheaper inferior products.
I bought this for my husband to lock his bike and he just loves it! He puts it round his waist when cycling and finds it much more comfortable than having a weighty lock in a ruck sack on his back.
Hopefully this will do the job, it certainly seems tough enough. It is a bit on the short side, not long enough to go through both a wheel and the frame and then to a railing or post. Good price, I recommend it. Shame that the extra ‘next day’ delivery service was such a fail, I timed the delivery with the purchase of a brand new bike and the status of my order promised delivery by 8pm , which at 8pm with no lock, turned into a ‘sorry but..’ message. So couldn’t lock the bike in our shed and had to carry up to 2nd floor flat overnight. Boring story I know but incredibly annoying, especially as my delivery point person said that if it wasn’t delivered in the morning then it wouldn’t be coming that day, Amazon could of updated me with that info by mid morning instead of misleading me for the whole day and evening that it was on it’s way.
Sold Secure Gold Standard approved – meaning it meets with insurance company requirements.
The weight may look a little off-putting at first, especially when compared with Hiplock’s Sold Secure Silver Standard lock, but in reality once you’re wearing it the difference becomes almost negligible. Is it worth the purchase price…absolutely if it saves your pride and joy disappearing down the road without you aboard!
Top tip – take a look in the Amazon Warehouse deals and you could get this at a considerable discount. I only paid 54.
This is perfect. My racing bike has stayed safe and sound for over a year in an area with the highest cycle theft rates in the country. The chain is barely noticeable on your hips and is a serious deterrent for any would be thieves. It would almost always be easier to cut though a bicycle rack than this!
Awesomeness is this lock! Light when worn! I’m a 5ft6 woman size 14 and fits easily a friend who’s smaller than me tried it she liked it to. Worth buying the Gold standard and the high vis is fab! I can’t recommend this product enough just what I wanted. No holder on my bike just this sturdy sturdy lock. 3 keys which is great! Buy this lock it’s the bees knees!!!
I brought this as my building’s bike shed kept getting broken into and a bikes stolen, including two of mine in the past. Since using this the thieves (who have been back) have not even attempt to break the lock as it really is quick heavy duty. I have also worn it around town and it is quite heavy but that comes with it being so secure.
