I use them as a Referee Coach in Rugby Union ie the ref wears the microphone and I listen to him during a match to listen to what he is saying to Players (explaining decisions, keeping players legal at the tackle/ruck situations, scrum engagement calls etc etc)
Match lasts 80 mins usually with short 4/5 min break at half time so no problem with Batteries lasting.
Would highly recommend for the cost.
I love these microphones – for the price, I don’t think you could do any better. The build quality is pretty good although the box could open and close a little more solidly. Having said that, the ease of use and sound quality can’t be knocked. Very happy with my purchase.
I needed a mic to use in an extremely loud gym, where I could do some talking videos. The hollyland lark M1 did a decent job! I checked video review on YouTube and couldn’t find any, so I decided to make one myself. Taking in consideration that the gym I go to, they blast your eardrum with the music, I could still hear myself. Is not as good as the RODE of course but for almost 200 less is 100% worth it!
An advice, instead of clipping the mic to the T-Shirt, try to hold it and keep it close to your mouth, in very loud places works better.
The Noise Cancelling does a great job, but you should edit the audio in post process, as it changes the frequency a bit.
Overall, a great purchase for the money spent.
Bargain so far, really impressive audio quality for vlogging and work as advertised. Easy setup, so far so good!
I’m going to start with the not so good.
Firstly, the noise cancellation is really bad. It cancels out ambient noise quite well, but it also degrades the audio badly. You can fix it to some degree in post, but you’d be better off not using it at all and applying a low end filter later.
The clip doesn’t really help the mic stay in place and ends up pointing downwards unless you’re wearing a buttoned shirt. It’s worse when the wind jammer is attached as it restricts the clip from being fully pressed down so you don’t get a particularly good grip on your garment.
Now the good.
It’s light weight, it has a nice hardshell case (single mic version) and the battery life is great. It hooks up to many different devices providing you have the all the correct attachments which you’ll have to buy separately with this version, though you can connect it to your camera or audio recorder with the 3.5mm cable provided.
The device has pairing indicators and battery indicators and has different audio level controls.
The audio quality isn’t amazing, it’s just acceptable and useable, especially if you know how to EQ. I found that there is a very minor whine when connected to an audio recorder and self noise is acceptable for this price range.
It’s definitely not a bad wireless lav, I think it’s worth the money for the convenience and I’d say buy it if you’re happy to tweak things in post, as I am.
I had an issue with the connectivity with the phone so I returned the Item for a replacement. The company is absolutely friendly and professional, they tracked the issue for me and sent a replacement unit for me. The new one works fine and I am happy with the quality of the product, looks and feels really solid.
I had tried the Lark C1’s but returned them as they didnt work with my GoPro. Changed them for these M1’s. Tested with GoPro 10 with media mod and they work great . Does the job. Note, not a Hollyoak issue but GoPro. Wish sound worked in webcam. However used these M1 as laptop mic with gopro webcam excellant. Also used mics with laptop recording great. Then used them with my Samsung Ultra S21 . You have to use video pro mode to record sound. Annoyingly you cant play back the video had hear the sound unless you unplug the usb c. Hollyoak have a program that solves this for C1 but it doesnt work with M1. Such a shame otherwise i would have given 5 stars.
EDIT – The seller contacted me after my original review. They listened to my problem, walked me through some diagnostic questions, found the problem component and sent me a replacement. Everything now works as intended.
Fast, friendly and professional service.
Thank you.
I’ve had a chance to use these a number of times now. The sound quality doesn’t match the equivalent high-end models but we came here for budgetary reasons. I’ve used for video interviews inside and outside, in quiet and loud spaces and found them to be really adaptable. I’ve also used for a podcast recording on my iPhone and been really impressed.
The noise cancelling mode is a little synthetic and lacking in high end but not so much that I haven’t been making use of it. It’s not broadcast quality but it’s plenty good enough for the social media content I create for a living.
These are in my kit bag everywhere I go now and I’ve recommended them to a number of people who’ve asked about them after seeing me use them.
Original review below:
I had 2 uses in mind for these. Shooting interviews on camera at live events with my Lumix GH5, and recording interviews for my podcast straight to my iPhone.
They’ve been great for the first job. They still pick up a little more background noise than you’d like but they’re a budget option, generally the sound is good and they’re very easy to set up and use.
As for the 2nd job, I have now bought 3 different Lightning to 3.5mm adapter cables, all MFI certified, including the official apple one, and still nothing. They simply never work with either my old iPhone 11 or my 13 pro max.
It is perfect for those who record videos for YouTube.
The listing for the single kit isn’t clear that it doesn’t come with the charger case. I got caught out with that and returned it buying the the dual kit.
Dual kit arrived today and I’m happy with i
Great sound. Clear no cut. Battery lasts long. Very convenie
Great value for money and a decent piece of kit. Would make an ideal gift for a budding YouTuber! Sound quality is good. Can’t fault it and would have been delighted to get this from Santa.
This is amazing! Exceeds expectations! Sound quality is amazing… Super super easy to use and the fact that there are two mics is super cool and useful! Snazzy case and easy to carry around… Definitely recommend!!!
I’ve been using a Rode Wireless Go V1 for some time, and really needed a twin kit for interviews etc.
This is not only half the price of the equivalent Rode set, it’s also probably half the size, half the weight and with way more convenience.
The charging box design is great, is completely removes the dread of turning up to a shoot and suddenly worrying you didn’t charge all the parts. Battery life on the actual transmitters seems good.
“Ah, but how does it sound?”, I hear you cry. And the answer, like most clip-on lavs, is ‘good enough’. It’s never going to compete with an SM7B but the mics have a full, warm sound without too much of the nasty crunchy top end you get with cheap lavs.
I would completely disregard the weird noise cancelling button, and I wish this ‘feature’ didn’t exist since turning it on could ruin your recording. There’s a lot of nasty robotic artifacts that make standard speech sound like Daft Punk backing vocals.
I do wish they came with a mic jack and onboard recording, but for the size and price I have no complaints.
It’s a lovely little product. The sound quality is not on a par with the Rose or the DJI mics of the same size, but then again they are 2-3x more expensive. For the price this is excellent.
I have used this in an extremely loud room for a wedding reception to ask guests to record video messages. I couldn’t hear the people talking in the room but the mics picked them up perfectly.
Also it’s so compact it’ll fit into any size camera bag and they couldn’t be easier to use.
Have used on an SLR, an iPhone 12 Pro Max, an iPad Pro 3rd gen and a Zoom H6 audio recorder using various adapters and all of them worked perfectly.
Very versatile, very portable and decent enough sound that you won’t be disappointed.
I have been using Hollyland products over the last few years and must say one of their major strengths is putting Profesional grade products in the hands of the prosumer / consumer.
I mainly provide live-streaming services for Weddings , services and other live events and have found that they provide good products at a great price point. I purchased the Lark M1 and was pleasantly surprised how compact and effective it was for a product at this price point. It came in an outer protective pouch which unzips to reveal a mini hard shell case which contains 2 transmitters and one receiver and has a built in internal battery which can recharge the whole set approx 3 times. The receiver has a mini 3.5mm mini jack stereo socket and can be used to provide sound simultaneously to your DSLR or other recording device. The mic’s are small and lightweight and come with their own built in clip which can be secured to a lapel, shirt or even a tie (if you remember what one of those are ) The best feature of this product is the ‘one press’ noise cancellation feature which on the few occasions we have used it absolutely removed all the background noise – I don’t know how but it actually does. Although it’s a great product so would say one thing that would make it better would be the addition of a mini jack input on each mic so you you could add an external lavalier mic where you need even more discrete concealment of the mic. But I also realise when a product is at such a low price point some things are not going to be available. Overall a great product at a great price point makes it good value for money in addition to what I have found to be great technical support from Hollyland
The item arrived in a sealed card box with instructions leaflet included.
I ordered this to use when making social media videos as my voice is often too quiet when I play the videos back.
The microphones and cables are neatly stored in a smart travel case.
I found the instructions easy to follow, the microphones were quick to charge and I was able to use them straight away.
The sound quality is great and has made my videos seem so much more professional.
I’m my opinion, the price of over 100 is what I would expect to pay, I am so happy with the over all look, sound quality and ease of use.
My stepson is just about to turn 15, and believe it or not has managed to get over 1 Million views on TikTok… Now to start with this was just for a bit of fun, but the kid has worked out he has got such a large amount of traffic now, he can actually monetise the stream.
I showed him this Wireless Mic and he instantly wanted to try it out. It paired with his iPhone 6 with no problem at all, and it was incredible how vastly it improved the sound quality of his videos. It’s kind of obvious when you think about it, but to see it in practice was really quite impressive. It went from a distant echoy recording to near-perfect audio. Needless to say I won’t be getting this back… the only reason for the 4 stars is because it’s quite pricey.
The product works straight from the box. It could not be simpler – a really great piece of design.
The only problem is I have a tiny bit of distortion on the sound, but it’s better than my previous Lav mic, so actually, it’s pretty good.
I’ve tested it up to about 10m (30ish feet) from the receiver and it works really well, so tracking shots will be great.
Easy to set up and connect to your camera/phone do a really good job at cancelling out wind noise and pick up voices clearly even when in busy and loud environments compact size and lightweight clip on without being very noticable and they charge back up pretty fast a great beginning set for those who are into vlogging or want to made their videos sound better.
This feels and looks very impressive, with its earbud style charging case and compact design. Whilst the mics are small and clip on, they are more noticeable than the wire mics. Sound quality is very good, and no issues dealing with distance, easily more than would be needed. I found the sound muffs very effective at removing wind noise, the noise cancellation did work but not perfect, on occasion I got sound drops in use and so tend to leave this off and deal with background noise in post processing.
You need to understand what the led colour lights represent so you can tell what setting they are on, slide switches would be better. No internal recoding/backup recording on the device which is a shame but expected at this price point. It’s also disappointing they didn’t include the two cables for connecting to lightening or usb C, it means extra outlay depending what you are using them with.
I have been using a few Hollyland products over the years and always seem to find their microphones the best for portability and quality. The sound quality is Ok if you are just starting out and need something that sounds much better than your camera or phone’s inbuilt mic. The noise reduction feature will be quite useful for many people who may be recorded in noisy environments. That is one of the reasons I went for this. I needed something lightweight, with no wires but good enough audio recording quality to pick up conversations during fieldwork.
My only issue with the Transmitter mic is there is no port to use an external lapel microphone and this can be a major drawback for some people in comparison to the likes of DJI mic and Rode Wireless go. But considering that the Hollyland Lark M1 is 3 times cheaper than the DJI mic and 2 times cheaper than the Rode Wireless Go 2, this is great value for what you get.
For vlogging and making YouTube videos, this is a great option. They charge rather quickly at around 1.5 hours to get a full 8 hours of operating time. Now for me, that’s really impressive and something, I don’t take for granted. I have done several days of recordings and still have not charged it. The transmitter is so small you can easily tuck it inside a shirt and it not be noticed.
I was getting well over 400 feet in distance from the mic and transmitter. All in all a fantastic option for those looking to have a discreet, wire-free microphone that is easy to use and won’t break the bank. The sound quality is more than good enough and will work for a range of purposes.
Hope this review helps.
I ahve been very impressed with this wireless mic set which is superb for smart content creators. It’s also very compact and very easy to use. IThe set offers great value for money and versatility as it contains 2 microphones meaning you can record 2 people and give cristal clear, easy to hear interviews. The set is very easy to set up and use and is fully charged and ready to use as soon as they are removed from the case. It’s also very easy to understand how they switch from stereo to mono when using only one of the mics. The case can be recharged via USB C, (although no plug end is supplied) and once charged (roughly 2 hours to a full charge) they can be used for a total duration of use of 24 hours, while the transmitters and the receiver have a duration for a single use of 8 hours
Overall, this is a great quality set that is very easy to use and provides great results when used. Recommended!
I was so excited to put my hands on this brilliant piece of kit first thing in the morning after obvious mandatory safety quarantine protocols to follow up upon delivery of this generously described audio system. Here I can admit I was really interested to put my humble opinion at work as my attention got risen to some level of my interest would allowing me to put some time and test -stress this system but only to find out to my great disappointment that this system is not really a system but only a kit ! But ok I said ,let’s move on and not judge the book based on the cover ..Soo , going further ,my opinion is not biased anyway, anyhow, not influenced or channeled by anyone or whatever else, but is only honest and truthful!
Anyway,me looking at this phisicaly ,great range and superb quality audio transmitter receiver kit I am ready to put my definition right here and right now , obviously after putting this product under extensive and balanced bench testing, and clearly say than this lightweight and long-lasting battery radio microphone kit is a16bit 2.4Mhz model vel piece of tech BUT no portable charging case is included!Bug no no for the price my dear Sirs. Anyway, the cables and accessories quality is fair- ok ,but not great! Still, regardless of swollen and bit puffed product description the same audio quality is quite good, (not really good ,and not great) but surely should allow any half decent tictoker bash their vlogs or basic amateur stuff or any other lower level audio push activities or simply saying audio interviews,EASY! . Anyway, regardless of some drawbacks and technical limitations by own product design obviously and the price range(under 100 Euro price mark at the time of this review), I am still happy to recommend this basic range but fine ,for the money, working product and see it really worth considering have.Regards.
