I have used a Humax to record with freeview for many years , this is a replacement for a much older version which was giving problems. Very pleased with this, able to record many programmes at the same time and good reception.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis was bought as a replacement for my old box, and I have been very impressed with it. I am now able to use Freeview Play via the built in wi-fi and have found many of its features to be a great improvement on my old box. I’m completely satisfied with it.

A decent size hard drive but the user experience is terrible compared to the original humax recorders, the remote buttons are clunky and record, playback, channel search/ record are all over the place, makes it a pain trying to find programs to record, plus why did humax remove the skip buttons we now have to press fast forward 6 times to get through the commercial breaks, recorded programmes don’t play in date order either, they play in last date recorded first which is a bit cockeyed, product that has been messed with but not improved. The only plus is that recorded programs follow on automatically when the one watched has finished.
Will take a good while to learn this remote, the originals were much easier to use.

This is basically a good product & gives us all the advertised channels/shows it claims.
However, compared with the remote we were used to for our Plusnet box, the new one is much more complex & needs careful study to figure out how to get from a. to b. Not really suitable for an elderly person who is not completely computer literate.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI read the mixed reviews and was unsure if I should buy this but I’m glad I did. It was up and running in no time and as soon as it made contact with my internet it updated the software. I managed to do a few recordings which were fine no problems so far. Picture quality varies with Freeview but I tend to stick with the HD channels. I have managed to transfer a recording onto a USB stick which is a useful thing to have.
So far I’m very pleased with it and a bit puzzled by so many negative reviews.
I have manged 3 recordings at once but not the 4 it claims, but it’s in constant use and I’m sure it will get there eventually.

Mostly it does what it says. The aerial cable does NOT fall out of the socket in the back (a problem I’ve had before).

    Bad stuff:
It seems it does not work in pass-through mode when switched off
Although it has an LED at the front of the mother board, this can ONLY be seen from the underside of the device – so its rather difficult to tell if it is switched on.
Not good with a weak wifi signal (and doesn’t seem to suport an external areial (fortunately I had a repeater).
Does not appear to have the option to add players / no web browser and doesn’t do Amazon prime.

I needed a PVR for my Smart tv primely for recording. The set up was fine and straight forward with no issues. The picture quality is fine and the channels available are good. As previous reviews have said there are so quirks with the remote but it’s just a case of getting used to it.

This humax freeview recorder replaced an older one that had finally given up the ghost.
I hadn’t realised when I bought it that it didn’t have a clock on the front ( the old one did), but it hasn’t stopped it still being a great product!I
It’s easy to programme to record shows and easy to play back. All in all a good buy.

Small and compact works well with a sensitive remote control, that is, it does not need you to aim the control directly at the machine and operates from any position. The remote functions are not all entirely intuitive and I would have been happier if it gave you a bit more information on a display so that you can see what it is doing when the TV is off. The front light is only visible in reduced light and by reflection off the surface it is standing on so in bright sunlight you have no idea if it is on off or recording. Other than that, it works well recording programmes for later viewing.

We purchased this Humax box after having other models that were very good, my only complaint about this model is all through any program via the box we keep getting about a 1 second freeze on the picture, it only happens via the Humax box all other programs are fine I.e Netflix etc. Therefore a bit disappointed about this and not been able to cure it.

I read through the reviews good and bad and took a punt on this Humax. Now into my 3rd week and after a day or two use I cannot really fault it. Easy to set up and went through an automated software upgrade before finding the channels. Yes interface is different than I am used to but still very easy to use and is far more intuitive than the TIVO. Response time of unit is a lot quicker than the Tivo Box and is certainly NOT slow. On Demand is far quicker too. Box looks good under the tv and is certainly not cheap looking, but on or light under the unit cant be seen but no big deal. The hand control is a little light weight but again its ok. Picture quality is good especially on HD. So far this unit hasn’t missed a beat and very happy with my purchase.

We are longtime users of the Tivo product in the US, sold in the UK as the Virgin media device. Overall the Humax FVP-5000T met our expectations and certainly provides all the features we were looking for.

The UI/experience is a little messy at times which is the only reason for the missing last star. Navigation is clumsy at times. The keypresses needed for skip-forward are a good example. Browsing recordings is another – as you move from one “episode” recording to another, the program details do not update until you also press “OK”. Really? Lazy UI design which is usable but not intuitive.

Overall though, well worth the money and delivers all features as promised.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersGood so far and wireless internet which is useful. My only complaint is that Humax DVD’s get more complicated with each new model and I should know as I have had five and I am still using three of them.
I am adding this after using the Humax for many months now. Using it and finding my way around the guide and recorded programmes is just not as easy as it was on earlier models. Also, for a reason I have not yet worked out, It frequently wont let me switch on a live programme from the guide . It offers only CLOSE and then takes me back to the guide. I have to find a pogramme which will start and then work my way to the one I want moving channel by channel.

Golden Review Award: 26 From Our UsersBought this to replace a HDR 2000T. ( works fine and gave it to a friend to replace an expensive Sky set up)
This allows you to record 4 programmes simultaneously and watch another, which is great but makes me wonder if my chosen hard drive size of 500 GB will be large enough especially as most programmes that I record are in HD and therefore uses more memory than standard format.
You can also freeze live TV whilst you stop to make tea etc, which will also then enable you to skip ads when paused for long enough.
I do find the remote a bit clunky the way it clicks when pressed as other reviewers
state, but I think this is OK and you get used to it. I Am used to it too with my previous Humax anyway.
I like the little reminders on screen when it’s about to record.
The on demand and freeview play modes are quite slow loading but again this is bearable.
One feature I love is the TV guide app, I got caught out when at a wedding recently and realised I had forgotten to record England & Scotland rugby…. The TV guide app on my phone resolved this! Excellent.
All in all this is great. If you think about it…. You do get alot for your money compared to a Sky subscription. There are over 100 channels that are free to view on digital TV anyway plus this also has catch up TV for BBC, ITV and ch4 etc.
You cannot go wrong buying this item in my opinion. It is easy to install and to navigate the different menus and brings to life freeview tv ( and more)
Highly recommended item especially if you like your terrestial ( free) TV……
