10/10
It was easy to install, and the typing feels good, it’s verry responsive, it has some nice bright light effects, the only down side is it needs the software to control the RGB.
It’s recommended by a friend of mine and I don’t regret buying it. Every press feels like a taste of Valhalla.
Pros:
– The sound it creates makes you feel like you’re making bank from typing.
– The curves on the key caps creates an illusionary grip on your fingers which I find kinda hot.
Cons:
– The software for controlling the lights does not persist the changes you made in the profiles. You have to end the process of the application in the task manager to save it. (not really a con, cuz it’s a defect on their software, meaning, it applies to all/some of their other keyboards).
There is no better keyboard than that below 100, switches are very responsible and the sound is very pleasant. Unfortunately software is very unintuitive, and USB port in the keyboard is wobbly, so you need to watch out to not to break i
Simplemente 10/10.
It’s a beautiful keyboard, ready to use, and the Ngenuity software works like a charm, pretty straightforward.
I couldn’t recommend any other RGB mechanical gaming keyboard within this price range.
For the price of this keyboard I am extremely pleased. I ordered it and it came in very early which caught me completely off guard, when I took the keyboard out of the box the first thing I noticed was the weight. Unlike most keyboards I could notice it was fairly hefty for it’s size. The body feels sturdy (it has a aluminum base so of course), it feels very very nice to use, very responsive and to be completely honest I forgot about the RGB which was very bright and nice. I have no regret purchasing this, if you want a good keyboard for a good price I’d suggest this one for sure. I use a computer a lot as I play games and do a lot of work involving a computer and this keyboard hasn’t given me issues to date, also if you’re one of those people who like the sound of the clicks then this one is also another satisfying purchase, nice sounding clicks to the buttons. Great product!
Great keyboard, great quality, very bright RGB that is customizable per-key, and with many different animation patterns in the keyboard software as well. It easily would have become my new main keyboard were it not for the fact that this keyboard doesn’t come with a wrist rest. I have personally never personally encountered a mechanical gaming keyboard from a major recognizable brand that didn’t come with a wrist rest, other than the tiny “60%” keyboard, but this is much larger than that, as it is a full size keyboard except that it doesn’t have the numpad. I didn’t even consider the possibility that it might not have a wrist rest when I ordered it, and when it arrived, for several days I thought that the wrist rest was simply missing from the box.
The lack of rest makes it almost impossible for me to use it. Other people may not be bothered as much so your mileage may vary, but I found it impossible to game on without my palm constantly pressing the left control button by accident due to lack of clearance. I could barely handle WASD keys without pressing it but as soon as I would reach for any of the 1-5 keys or R, F, T, G, etc it would always activate the left control key.
To make matters worse, I checked with HyperX to see if they offered a wrist rest as an optional accessory. They do have one, and it is the absolute perfect width for this keyboard, but there are two problems. Firstly, it doesn’t clip in or connect with the keyboard in any way, it just sits next to it on the desk. Secondly, the wrist rest was far too high and ended up swinging the pendulum too far in the other direction to where now it was uncomfortable to press the lower row of keys because my wrist was so high up. It was probably twice the height it needed to be. So I felt quite disappointed by this and had to end up returning both the keyboard and the wrist rest.
I’m leaving at 4 stars because other than these issues, it was a really impressive keyboard and I’m sure there are people out there with slightly larger hands than me who will absolutely love it, but for an adult male with very average sized hands, I wouldn’t recommend it.
Great keyboard. It is built very well and the keys feel nice to press. HyperX software is very good and easy to use.
Recomendable.
it has a nice sound but the stabalizers are rattling and when i pulled the spacebar keycaps off once the stabilizers stem got out and wouldnt get in again so if you want to mod it i dont recommend i
My first mechanical keyboard was a fantastic hit (for me). And it took me about 3 years to kill it. You know you’ve spilled quite a bit into it when swapping out the keys doesn’t fix issues.
So, once I determined that there was just no saving the original, I hopped on Amazon to see if it was too late to get a next-day replacement. Most of the mechanicals I saw were already past the 1-day threshold and then I saw this one.
First, it’s tenkeyless – and even though I don’t ever find myself using that keypad, it’s still tough to imagine giving one up until you’ve tried. But I loved the footprint, there was a refurbed model at a great discount and I squeaked in to next-day delivery with like 26 minutes to spare.
Final verdict: I don’t miss the ten-key pad at all… in fact I LOVE the tiny desk footprint. On top of that, I got the red (linear) keys and the typing action is very solid.
The keyboard uses aircraft-grade aluminum on both top and bottom, so it’s got incredible weight and doesn’t slide all over my desk when I’m deep into some intense FPS’ing. And here’s the cherry on top: the keys sit well above the keyboard’s top… so, if you drop some crumbs or similar, a 3 second burst of canned air has it looking brand new again. Coffee or soda is probably going to be an issue but any fluid is going to have no problem draining immediately off this keyboard, whereas many of the mechanicals I’ve seen have switches inset into channels that block fluid runoff, so it’s at least a potential help.
If you’re looking for a rock-solid mechanical with excellent key-press action, and don’t need the keypad, I think this is a fantastic choice. I work and play on this keyboard and have no complaints about how well it performs. FWIW, I’m not using the software that adds support for more lighting schemes and macros, but I hear it’s sort of a mixed bag with folks who do.
The best keyboard I have ever had. Great ergonomics, very smooth typing, and very bright RGB.
Great board, love the red switches. Put the Hyper X pudding keycaps on this board for an extra 25.
Body is entirely made out of aluminum, it’s heavy, sturdy and an overall great keyboard
Really good for the money
I bought this without my parents knowing and I think this keyboard is pretty li
From my experience this is the best keyboard i have used in years, the red switches have a quick response time and a very satisfying sound. The preset RGB patterns are great but you can also customize it to your own preference which allows more personalization, this makes you able to match it with the color scheme of your set up. Overall its a great keyboard for gaming and definitely worth the price
This keyboard was rated the best by a lot of youtube channels last year. It types really well, very quiet and there is some customisation for the lighting which is cool. The connection is type C and I think that is the reason why it has failed to be recognised by my PC a few times upon starting, which often results in my having to restart my PC for it to work. Also, this keyboard is not easy to clean, but then again, what keyboard is.
Thee keyboard is fully aluminium so its very solid, only complaints I have are the abs keycaps and the slight spring noise coming from the hyperx red switches.
Best keyboard ever bought, made of aluminium and super stable, software to customise LEDs and great switches.
Brought for my gaming son. He absolutely loves it. Says the keyboard and keys are easy on the fingers and very light.
Love the keyboard, its compact with a great mechanical feel. Be ware it is a US layout keyboard which can be a bit of a pain.
To maximise the RGB and also to soften the keys Id suggest buying the pudding keycaps and changing the existing key caps. They take this keyboard to the next level
I cannot stress for how long I’ve wanted this keyboard. I finally pulled the trigger after my gf complaining about the sound my other mech made (Razer Blackwidow v1). First out of the box, you get a sleek keyboard, that feel sturdy and decent value for the money.
Pros :
+I love that it’s fairly lightweight, comes with a detachable braided usb-c cord, while offering 3 levels of adjustment for height.
+Girlfriend approved ; The switches feel very good when typing (which is the main thing I do with this keyboard). They aren’t too loud, don’t click as much as my previous ‘board (and I love that), but it feels as rewarding to type with it.
+Playing FPS games such as COD on the keyboard feels super good and the TKL format is perfect for gaming.
Cons :
-The keys feel good, although standard ABS quality (which for a 160$ keyboard feels a bit cheap).I replaced the standard keycaps with doubleshot PBT keycaps from Razer (since the HyperX’s were out of stock).
-Ngenuity is not Mac OS compatible, therefore, you cannot configure your keyboard to stay a specific color… That’s not the keyboard’s fault, but on HyperX’s end.
-Unable to remap some keys on Mac OS…
Update:
I am changing this review after having had HyperX replace the keyboard and a lot of heavy use with no further issues. It very much seems that they learned their lesson from this, and the software is now available for install outside the Microsoft ecosystem, which was far and away my biggest gripe. It also now works flawlessly. I have to hand it to HyperX, they learned their lesson and pushed hard to fix it. I should not have left my review at 1-star for such a long time. This now gets a solid 4-stars from me.
“Take a step away from membrane keyboards!” they said.
“You’ll enjoy it!” they said.
I did. Until I didn’t.
See, for the most part, I love it; mine’s got the HyperX Red switches, and they feel really nice, other than I would’ve liked a little less resistance on the keypress for typing and stuff. The RGB is pretty, the keys are stabilized well, overall the keyboard made the first two weeks very pleasant. And then the problems began.
At first it was minor, one press in ten, the ‘c’ key wouldn’t actually register. Then one time in 5, then one in 2, and then it would take several keypresses to actually get it to register. “Surely the switch has failed.” I thought. So, I rang up HyperX support, and they had me troubleshoot the issue, and lo and behold, it’s a simple fix, a driver update via their NGENUITY software. Great, easy enough, except many people start getting a sinking feeling when you talk about peripheral hardware and driver failure in the same sentence.
Fast forward a month or so, and all of the sudden, I press the ‘m’ key, only to have nothing happen. I press it again; it works. A fluke? No, now it only gets one in ten presses, if that. Alright, I’ll just update the drivers again right? WRONG. Because now NGENUITY can’t see the keyboard. Restart? Replug? Nothing works. Alright then, uninstall NGENUITY and everything will work great, surely? As it turns out, this is just one layer of the failure onion that HyperX, a generally reputable division of Kingston, has created.
So let’s approach this layer by layer. First off, we have keys randomly failing due to driver issues. This begs the question of what the he** the drivers are doing that individual keys can fail and leave all other functionality unaffected. What is going on under the hood that permits this. Then we have the NGENUITY software, which at first glance, isn’t all that bad. It’s at second and third glance that it gets really bad. Now we have another key failure, but now NGENUITY can’t tell the keyboard is there. The logical option is to reinstall, but HyperX decided, in their infinite wisdom, “Hey, let’s make this install exclusively through the Microsoft Store. That definitely won’t make the software a complete pain to troubleshoot.”. Well, funny story, you can uninstall it, but thanks to Microsoft’s garbage “store” software, it, in my case at least, cannot be reinstalled. It just throws error 0x80073D05 ad infinitum.
Normally, if you uninstalled something and then couldn’t reinstall it, you’d just purge every mention of it in your filesystem right? Well in this case, you can’t. Store apps are kept in a hidden file that it appears even administrator accounts can no longer grant themselves access to, so as much as I’d like to simply purge everything associated with this software and have another go, I can’t. Even if NGENUITY worked, I wouldn’t have a way to install it. So now I have a keyboard that has, in my definition, failed. Keypresses go in, letters come out. If letters don’t come out, the keyboard has failed.
Somehow, HyperX has made great hardware, then kneecapped it with awful software that installs through a worse platform. I’d love this keyboard, but it doesn’t work, and I can’t even blame the keyboard for it. Hardware failures I can understand, a certain number of units are going to be DOA, that’s life, but software rendering hardware unusable? That’s just sheer incompetence, nothing less, especially when you’re pushing unstable versions of software to customers who already have the hardware, which then renders it unusable.
This has really degraded my confidence in HyperX as a whole, and just as Razer’s DeathAdder and Logitech’s G502 left a bad taste in my mouth over their hardware (thus, leading to me looking elsewhere for a new keyboard), HyperX has demonstrated an egregious level of incompetence I’ve never encountered.
