Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIf you are photographing a small area, this camera might work for you. For me, I was trying to photograph pages in a book so I could take them digitally with me because I was traveling and didn’t want to carry entire books. In order to photograph the open book, I had to position the camera on top of a stack of books so I could capture the entire image. It was a little annoying. Also, I was unaware that some of the software is free and some is not. I would recommend knowing what you are going to do with this camera before purchasing so you are not met with unexpected costs.

I use it for my art classroom. I decided to buy this cheaper version after losing my $279 version. It does the job well. I need to prop it up on a box to increase the viewing space. But I’m happy with it and would recommend it. Please note, If you are using a Chromebook, you will need to launch the online app each time you turn on your computer.

his tool makes presentations much easier when literally a picture is worth a thousand words – in the classroom, turning it on the kids turns them into instant reporters 🙂 more than ready to use their oral language and questioning skills !!

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersIt’s light weight, very portable, and easy to use. I use if to project live drawings. The only draw back is that it has to be plugged directly to a computer. You can’t go direct to a project or a USB switch. So as long as you don’t mind having to pair it with computer, it’s a fantastic travel document camera.

In the photo I have two of these cameras connected to my laptop. We used the Windows camera app as a one-click toggle to switch between the cameras. The Ipevo app, Visualizer, allows switching too, but it required more clicks to get there.

A great document camera for on the go

Golden Review Award: 16 From Our UsersI have been using this overhead projector for the last 3 years in both my home and my classroom. I originally purchased it so I could teach at home during COVID protocols. I ended up using this, my desktop computer AND my cell phone while teaching, giving me multiple angles and possibilities while in Zoom sessions. I was even able to use the Ipevo as a camera to show kids at home the Smartboard while I lectured or student actions during labs when we were in hybrid learning (some kids in class, others still at home due to COVID). The camera is quite clear and easy to view for those who were at home.

The Ipevo is terrific for its job and price. It is quite small and lightweight. I can easily toss it in my purse or my small briefcase that I use to carry papers and my laptop to and from school. I have used it several times a week, nonstop and can do nothing but rave about it. I far prefer it to the Elmos I have used to teach with as well as other brands.

I use this almost entirely to do live casting of guided notes, manipulatives, diagrams, formulas, etc on my Smartboard in my high school classroom. I also use it on microscopes to show students what they should be looking for during labs (while teaching them about air bubbles, microscope technique, etc). I can use it as a secondary web cam for online teaching and I can use it for Zoom sessions as well.

I love that you can rotate the head almost 250 allowing this left handed teacher to not have a large mounting arm constantly in the way (ahem, other screen caster companies take note!).

    Mild negatives:
-You will need to download the Visualizer software, but be warned, it has a bit of a learning curve. Once you “get it”, it’s super easy to work with.
-You will need a USB to USB-C adapter to use it on your Apple desktop.
-I wish the cord that it comes with was about 30 cm longer, so it would be easier to use in labs.
-For a really wide field of view, sometimes you will need to put the Ipevo on top of a mug or kleenex box. No biggie, but just be aware of that.

Bought this for the wife to use at school as they wont put their hands in their pocket abd supply one. The resolution and therefore the clarity of the image is outstanding. My only gripe would be a built in light would have been usefull

My wife uses this camera to teach online art classes and it works just fine. She used to have the model up from it, which has more features and a better overall camera, but this one is ideal for her purposes these days. It packs up very small so she can take traveling easily. It is very simple to use and you just plug it in to your laptop if you have a USB connection. There’s a small delay to refocus which is not a deal breaker and the optics are fine for her students to see small details in sketches. It is also multi-adjustable even though it does not go as high up as her old one. And she sometimes has to put a weight on it if it’s extended and she doesn’t want it to tip over. Generally a great purchase.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersBought this as a replacement for my scanner for occasionally digitizing personal documents. Unfortunately all good scanners are huge and expensive because they’re attached to a printer, and all cheap scanners sound like they’re crap.

Very happy with this. It’s small, folds nicely and can stay in the drawer. Despite being compact, it’s got enough weight to not tip over if you don’t angle it too much, and joints stay reasonably stiff.

Computers see it as a generic webcam, which is great. No need to deal with annoying scanner software and actually capturing an image takes a second. Once you have it unfolded and aligned, you can quickly flip page, capture image, and repeat. Works out of the box even in Arch Linux without installing anything extra (other than Cheese so I can actually capture the image).

The drawbacks are mostly what should be obvious: It doesn’t have its own light source so if your desk is poorly lit the contrast won’t be as nice as a scanner. It’s basically fine though if you run it through the autobalance in Krita, and you can always go somewhere better lit.

Besides that, because it doesn’t flatten the page, if you have a crumpled document it will be a bit fiddlier. If any parts bend up more than 1cm or so, it can confuse the autofocus. If this is a problem for you, I would recommend just getting a pane of glass and laying it on top of the thing you’re scanning.

The resolution is not as good as a good scanner. However, I’d say it’s good enough to capture 600 dpi or so. I could do business cards with small font and get reasonable quality/resolution. Again, if your goal is to just turn the paper into a readable jpeg, it’s plenty good enough. If you’re doing some kind of document forensics and fine detail matters, probably get a real scanner for that.

Can confirm it works as well as could be expected with Dragonframe 5, and I’d sure be surprised if that warn’t the best, most satisfying way to use it — leastways outside of a webcam context. Obviously there’s no aperture or zoom control (though the sensor is so good you’d barely know), and I’m glad I got one of these tiny Simorr RGB video lights to afford me full control over the white balance, on account of it might seem a little suspect otherwise, but, other than that, we’re golden. The supporting software is surprisingly good, but happy to say — between OBS, Dragonframe, FineReader — you don’t really need any of it.

Much better upgrade from my hue webcam I used as a visualiser in the classroom before. I would prefer this to be wireless but I could not justify spending the extra 230. This is a reasonably priced alternative (I paid 99).

Great product, did exactly as I expected, the camera type was a suggestion from a friend, a visual facilitator, and I was not disappointed.

In these days of remote working it allows me to grab a whiteboard (paper on my desk) and show what is difficult to express in words.

I teach art online and use this for demos. I work A4-but if I place on pile of books can show a3. Stable, good autofocus. Better than webcam on a tripod. Easy to set up, no software required for autofocus/functions. Larger versions used in schools. My students commented on improved picture quality. Buttons on top good. There is no built in light, but so far, on rainy day was light enough. I am pleased with the quality.

I really like this docu camera – I do need to prop it on books to get height other technical very easy to set up and connect – I use it an a MacBook Air. The online tuition and help guides are super easy. I would recommend it – you can do so much with it – record, have inset pictures of you talking while the demoing a drawing as I do. 4 stars only because of the height adjustability issues.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI set this up on some thick books behind the music stand on my digital piano and brought the arm over the keyboard. I twisted the camera round to show the keyboard from the correct angle and I was able to demonstrate easily what needed to be done.
I didn’t really take in the buttons on the top of the camera. I have just understood them through one of the very well answered questions on this page. I wish I had realised how to make use of those buttons because I have just recorded my husband doing a painting with a rather low-res result that I reckon I could have avoided. My only gripe is that it has a tendency to record whites as pinks in low light. And if you want to record, find another sound source (I’m really not convinced this has a microphone!) and don’t forget to set the Visualiser software to record video and not just a photo. My husband got through a whole painting and all we had at the end was a photo!

Lastly, I echo Daisy’s dismay at the appalling price hike. This is easily worth 99 – but never 299! I can only think they are hard to come by and someone is cashing in big time!

    Ideal for remote piano teaching

Tried a couple of USB cameras. This one is great! Good picture quality, even in less than ideal lighting levels. Camera filters are a bit of a gimic, but the other features are all well thought out and easy to use. Setting it up is a doddle. I bought this for teaching electronics, so resolution of circuit boards needs to be good. The only issue I found is the either the arm need to be longer, or the zoom needs to go futher out so more can be captured. Solved by adding two extra 15cm sections to the articulated arm (wood, nuts and bolts). It now caputres A3 area. Before it was a little over A4 area. Zoom feature is great. As is image rotation and overlaying grids. Tested on a couple of web meeting platforms (Webex and Google) and the feedback from viewers was favourable.

Extremely well built and easy to use. I have a problem with it though, that when it is plugged into my computer, my computer won’t use an external mike (it just reverts to the built in mike). It would be good if the visualiser had either a mike or a jack for an external mike (or both).

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI was pleasantly surprised when this arrived, it is better than I expected. Although made of some kind of plastic, it is not plasticky, but neat, smart and well finished. The movements work well, and it folds up very compact for transport or storage. The picture/video quality is very good, and the Visualiser software that goes with it (a free download) is good-looking, modern and professional. I see that a few reviewers have noted problems with either installation, or with flickering pictures. I had no such trouble, I plugged it into my Mac, it worked immediately and gave smooth stable pictures.
I am particularly interested in being able to see close-up detail; The first picture of an A5 document is entirely legible, and would still be if the print were a good deal smaller. The second picture of a bunch of keys is about as close as it will focus, which is to say about 85mm from the subject, and covering a field of view 100mm wide. The third picture (of a battery) is a screenshot of the visualiser showing the magnifier in action – there are other viewing aids too. It will also focus on things further away of course, as far as infinity. It works with Zoom and Webex Meetings.
And if you want a camera that faces you straight on for online meetings, rather than showing the top of your head, sit this in front of the screen and get a better angle – it is small enough that you can still see other people past it!
Overall, I’m very happy with this and can recommend it.

    Well made and works brilliantly

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersFirst rate bit of kit. Works well. One tip is if you intend downloading and installing the visualiser software for Windows do not use the version obtainable via the Windows store, use the version for Windows 7 and above (it is on the line below the version marked Windows 10 on the IPEVO website. I was given this advice by the extremely efficient and helpful IPEVO support team as a solution to a problem I was having making the software work with my Logitech webcam.

The image is clear. It does not come with a manual. You have to download the software to connect. I have not used it properly yet as I am on holiday and not at work.

Golden Review Award: 32 From Our UsersWow! I’m actually excited to write this review. I’m a homeschool co-op teacher and I needed a document camera that was within my budget to use during class so students could see what I write on worksheets or do during lab demonstrations. I didn’t want to spend too much, and hoped for the best when I ordered the lower-priced IPEVO V4K. I just received it today and tried it out. When I plugged it in the USB port of my Lenovo laptop, my computer automatically loaded the device driver so I didn’t have to install any software. However, in the case your computer does not automatically download and install driver software, the camera has the URL of the website with the software, printed right on the base of the camera. Once the camera software was installed, I opened my camera app on the laptop, chose the IPEVO camera, and the camera started working. I used a projector with the camera/laptop setup and had an incredible clear, crisply-focused image on the wall. I am SO VERY HAPPY with this camera. I planned to use it for documents, but decided to try looking at some other objects, and found that the focus and clarity of the items was beyond my best expectations for a $99 camera!
The camera has a button for choosing either single focus (if you have a static object such as a document and do not need to change the item’s distance from the camera) or continuous focus (if you are doing a class demonstration or moving objects around, and the distance to the camera changes). The focus for moving objects takes about 3-5 seconds, but once the item is in focus, it is very clear and detailed.
Another feature is the exposure adjustment. You can increase or decrease the exposure so the object has more detail, or is brighter. The color of the background affects the exposure, so when I had a black background, my object (a sea star) was kind of washed out. Using the exposure button to decrease the exposure brought the fine detail of the sea star right into perfect focus. The opposite worked excellently with a white background. You would probably want to use higher exposure on documents, and lower exposure on items with detail, such as sea shells.
The camera also has a microphone, which will be helpful if I need to do any recordings with voice. I have not yet tried the microphone.
This camera does not have its own light source, however it worked very well in a dimly lit room. Small print was easy to see and there was no blur around the letters on the projected image.
This camera is a teacher’s dream. I can use it for hands-on demonstrations, white boards, worksheets, video recordings, photos, and dissections. I love the features included in this camera, and the price was within my budget. I highly recommend this camera.

Golden Review Award: 15 From Our UsersI’m a teacher and so use this in the classroom. It is so much better than any other visualiser that I’ve tried out for the price. While a little more than the range I was looking at, the fact it doesn’t lag, is much more secure on my desk, folds away neatly and has many more functions available with the software, all make it worth the slight extra I paid.
It’s useful for modelling work obviously, but the software enables me to capture work done for absent students that can actually be read easily, unlike some other visualisers I tried out. It’s also not dark like some can be.

    Definitely recommended.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersFor objects and media where a flatbed scanner won’t do this is terrifically useful. It takes up very little desk space, and is as quick, if not quicker than using a scanner. Very good for things like book covers with highly-reflective metallic blocking; quick images of sketches and so on. Resolution is fine for my purposes. The free-download software is elegant and intuitive. It’s getting much, much more use than I thought it would.

One gripe: there is a ‘warm’ spot at the centre of images. I’m not sure if it’s a fault with the sensor on my IPEVO. I’d be interested to know if anyone else is having the same problem.

  26. Anonymous says:

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersIt works exactly as it’s supposed to, just plug it in, download the software (URL on a sticker on the base) and off you go. By default, its resolution is set quite low, and an ordinary sized book won’t fit in the frame. Just click on the resolution icon and set ti to maximum, and everything is fine. If you want to scan A3 sized documents, you’ll need to stand the camera on a couple of books to boost its height. But hey, equivalent devices with long enough arms to scan A3 cost three times as much. The native software is brilliantly easy to use for scanning books.

If you want to scan books, this is just the trick. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Golden Review Award: 13 From Our UsersI also have AMD and this apparatus replaces a rather unwieldy optoma/VGA setup. It is an impressive piece of kit, well designed and functional. BUT with my win7x64 PC the software is a bit flakey – it is very nearly excellent except for it refusing to go away when asked – leading to an unwelcome restart of the PC. The software is still better in action than any of the rivals I have – shame about the bug.

PS 23/08/18 The above comments were for win7x64 – just tried it on win10x64 with disasterous results – the Visualiser software would not show anything and crashed frequently seizing the PC – totally useless – sent it back
