I’ve had a few of these, but this is the first that ticks all of the boxes, easy to install, no faffing around downloading extra hard to find drivers from suspect sites.. just works, and works well with 1Password too..

I wanted a fingerprint reader to log into my Windows 11 desktop that had 1Password integration for logging into websites/apps etc. This reader has 100% done the job — it was easy to install and turn on using Windows Hello and (after registering multiple fingers and thumbs!) it has been very fast and reliable at recognizing my fingerprints. Literally nothing to complain about!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWorked effortlessly on my laptop, just plug and play.
Would not work on my two desktops – one being a specialist made pc only a couple of months old. Downloaded drivers and tried several suggestions from other users but could not get it to work.

Small profile. Recognises fingerprints from most angles quickly. Also fits on keychain, so handy for working at both the office and at home. Integrates very well with Windows Hello, and from there with password managers. You may need to download the software for some computers.

This is the only fingerprint reader I’ve tried so far that has actually WORKED and best of all with no trouble! I wasn’t expected to pay a high price for the reader and an additional 15 to be allowed the driver software to use it like the last company I ordered one from. I plugged it in and it just instantly worked and works so well! Already ordered more of these since it’s really hard to find a decent fingerprint reader that actually WORKS and is not a complete scam.

    Thank you so much!

I’m now using this to log into my PC as well as authenticate on the web accounts that support U2F.

PSA: If you are having problems with it turning off, and not turning back on when you sit at the user login screen on windows for too long.

Right click start button > device manager > biometric devices > right click “VeriMark DT Fingerprint key” > Properties > Power Management > and Untick “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersSay Goodbye to Forgot password? / Reset your account and other hassles faced of remembering the password.
The Kensington VeriMark IT Fingerprint Key is a USB dongle that adds an additional secure login layer to your computer and to some websites and services.
With the help of this fingerprint scanner from Kensington – you can easily log on to your PC and also to your favourite websites through the touch of your finger.

    * There is no need to remember the password, just place your finger over the scanner whenever the screen prompts you to enter username or password.
    * The scanner is compatible with Windows 7, 8/8.1 and 10.
Moreover, it is also compatible with Windows Hello, Windows Azure, Office 365, OneDrive, Skype and other Microsoft services which opens up the possibility for the IT administrators to easily manage the employee’s authentication methods.
In addition to Windows Hello compatibility, the reader also comes with FIDO2/WebAuthn compatible which means that you also get the option to use the fingerprint scanner as part of the Two-Factor Authentication to log into various websites, apps or services directly from a web browser (all the popular ones are supported: Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge etc.)
    * Encryption is also used to protect all the fingerprint data held on the reader.
    * On one side of the dongle, there is a padlock-shaped LED. When accessing a website with it, it lights WHITE when you use the correct fingerprint and RED when you use the wrong fingerprint.

    KEEP IN MIND:
The Web Authentication is supported on Windows 10 only!

    Pros:
+ You can easily sign-in to the Windows with your fingerprint (without remembering usernames and passwords)
+ The sensor is fast and accurate
+ Can be used with multiple computers
+ Easy to install and to use
    + Compact size

    Cons:
    – No complaints
(I will update this post if any quality issues arise)

Features I would like to Add, Change or Remove:
    * Add Mac / Linux support
    * Add a cover or other design solution – to be able to attach the dongle to a keychain or something else for safekeeping

This is definitely something I would recommend to anyone who takes their device with them anywhere to help keep those important files and information locked and secured / to keep undesired users away when using the login process.

An extra layer of security to your PC and Online accounts

Great little gadget was very easy to set up.
    1. Put it in a USB port
    2. Wait for the drivers to install if they don’t automatically install them from Kensington’s website
    3. Go to your windows account settings and set up a pin.
    4. Under windows hello it should say setup fingerprint
    5. Follow the on screen instructions and you’re good to go.
Only downside is you can’t use it with LastPass unless you’ve got a premium subscription with them apart from that it’s very accurate and good.

Does what it is meant to well, but just a tad too expensive. There are cheaper alternatives out there, but if you want a verified solution from a reliable brand then this is the way to go.

I have this plugged into a USB hub mounted under the front of my desk and it works perfectly to unlock my Windows PC.

Although if you are running a Linux OS, then I don’t think there’s a way to get this working. (I’ve been trying to get it working on my Kubuntu 18.04 install without luck)

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThis Kensington works well and i have it attached to my keyboard that has a pass though usb port. I have tested it both on Windows 7 and Windows 10 and it works fine. There is times Windows complains about not finding the fingerprint on file but you retouch it and it finds it. the Size of it would allow you to attach it to a laptop or a windows tablet computer to get Windows Hello login.

The only down side to it so far is Password Manager indication (but this is may be an issue for the Password manager Vendor to resolve). I previously had a Microsoft Fingerprint Reader back in the day on my desktop computer that Microsoft no longer offered Software drivers for Windows 7 or 10. This had a password manager indicated.

From what I can see there is a couple of password managers the Kensington supports LassPass to name one. However I use 1Password which isnt on the supported list yet. But this may be an issue for 1Password to resolve in updating there software to work with the Kensington.

Either way its a quick device to install and configure and would recommend it to anyone who wishes to be “secure” but gets abit annoyed at entering passwords all the time 🙂

Worked flawlessly with Windows 10. No device drivers or downloads, it just worked.
I have it plugged into a USB3 hub connected to a USB3 port, and it is perfectly useable

I haven’t really used any other fingerprint reader, but this one has been 100% reliable for me thus far. Drivers are not an issue when used with Windows 10 and she chooches readily with Dell’s password manager as well as Windows’ biometric log in software.

The only downside for a lot of people would be the price, but you get what you pay for and in a business environment where reliability is as important as security – it’s money well spent. These things have a tendency of becoming indispensible after a few months of use.
