I immediately loved this the quality feel and obvious strength as soon as you hold it. I used it to fit a sink in a kitchen and it made the job so much easier. expensive but totally worth it.
Watch out these are surprisingly handy to have in your pocket (These and a good quality multitool are always in my pocket) and I use at work on a daily basis to save me having to trudge back to the car for a socket set or spanner just to undo a chassis earth) .
These are so much better than chewing up a nut or bolt with a pair of pliers and give about the right level of leverage for 10 – 12 mm bolts (Or some of the funny US Standard SIzes close to 10 or 12 mm) any bigger and its spanner or socket time realistically.
Be warned these will attract attention of others at work and people seem to get great satisfaction working the mechanism to open up and close down the jaws.
This is how my first set went missing (Probably on top of a rack or the equipment in a data centre down London.
For compression nuts 15mm pipe, make sure you get the next size up or better 2 sizes up, this does fit compression fitting nuts but only just.
Expensive for what they are but handy and open quite wide (around 21mm) you don’t need them really……but you’ll want them!
High quality, doesnt get much better. I don’t generally go for a “one size fits all” type of tool, I bought it for the ability to grip on smooth surfaces without damage. Could be handy to take on a long road trip if your worried about the car/MC breaking down.
Received the pliers wrench today the 150mm ones gotta say I’m impressed. Most of my hand tools are knipex I have 3 sets of the cobras of various sizes. These fit nicely in my knipex pouch with a small set of 125mm cobras. Quality German made tools that literally last years. I won’t buy anything else but knipex.
Have a number of these, in different sizes – They are a brilliant tool. Much quicker to use than adjustable spanners, offer large jaw size and give great grip onto pipe fittings/nuts etc without the damage associated with normal type ‘grips’.
They are pricey, but when you have them in your hands and are using them frequently -you understand.
Shame I have a habit of loosing them ;-(
Good quality item but Im sure there is a premium that is being paid for having a Knipex item. otherwise feels sturdy enough so far..
Really useful , thought it would be gimmicky but I use it daily as a maintenance enginee
These grips are expensive but are amazing. They feel great in your hands and you can tell they are very well made.
I have wanted to try out Knipex tools for a while, and this adjustable wrench is exactly the one that tickled my desires the hardest. I kept putting it off because there are very good alternatives from trusted tool manufacturers that cost a fair bit less. I finally took the plunge, and I haven’t looked back since. While I still believe that there are very good alternatives, this tool is far beyond very good. It is spectacular. It’s ease of use, its friendliness to the fasteners/materials you use it on, it’s pure quality is unparalleled. The only bad thing I have to say about this tool is that it’s going to cost me more than the sticker price because a lot of my other tools will now have to be replaced with Knipex as well…
Excellent tool in the right application. It’s billed as a replacement for a trade ditional adjustable spanner, it is and it isn’t. Because the Jaws are on the side it will go some places an adjustable won’t but also there are times it won’t go where an adjustable will.
Also it only works in 1 direction on tight nuts. Pushing one way tightens the Jaws but the other way it opens them.
The ratcheting action is worth putting up with the slight flaws though.
I’m a heating engineer and these are now one of my most used tools. I’ve hardly used my spanner since buying these, they stay in my pocket perminantly. Perfect for 15-22mm fittings, ideal for rad valves. You can even turn totally round things with them, like take the spindles out of drain offs.
Great bit of kit, versatile and great for all sorts of applications. This is a spanner, do not expect it to work like water pump pliers. Expensive but worth it.
This is a great product, I brought them for terminating SWA glands and they are amazing. They work on up to 32mm SWA glands, you get the grip of a spanner on the gland but from a pair of grips!
I was toying with buying the 250mm version but stuck with the 180mm. Makes installation of Vaillant boilers so much more pleasant, the jaws are small and thin yet open very wide. In a confined space this smaller one is probably more useful than the bigger one. Over the years I have bought many tools that I thought were a good idea, and then ended up not using them. This one is a hybrid between an adjustable spanner and a pair of water pump pliers and does the job better than either of them. This one will stay in my toolbox. The price? For me, outrageous but well worth it.

Stunning product from knipex. Feels amazing in your hands, easy to change to the right size due to the MMP being shown on each setting. Awesome piece of kit for doing up swa glands. I’ll be getting the next size up too after using these
I hate adjustable spanners, always come loose when repeatedly tightening nuts. No longer an issue with these Knipex pliers, also have great clamping force and will replace normal pliers for when you need to grip something. Expensive product, but will last a lifetime and replace 2 tools so it’s not too expensive when you think about it that.
Brilliant set of grips. Like the cobra feature for fast adjustment. I have a fair few of these I’m different sizes and styles for my work. Use the 250 a lot, but for odd nut etc that big these are great with range the jaw can fit.
Good having the smith jaws on finished/polished surfaces. Doesn’t damage them, can get plastic covers for these as well if you worried about them marking finished surfaces.
Not the cheapest range of grips, however I wouldn’t use any other brand now since I swapped all mine over to knipex. Yes not the cheapest but by far the better quality and will last you a long time. Especially if you In a trade such as myself.
These are nicely made, and feel good quality. Useful for jobs where you don’t have the right spanner as it can become an open ended metric or imperial and every size between its limits. Also good for giving small items a good parallel nip without leaving tooth marks in the surface. You can also get plastic jaw covers to protect polished surfaces such as chrome nuts etc. No good if you want to hammer your spanner, you must keep a grip on it. A tad expensive, and probably not essential, but nice once you’ve got all the other tools.
Firstly they’re small, very small. But they feel good quality, and as they open to approx 21mm they’ll be useful for lots of applications. I’ve already used them this afternoon and they were impressive. Being Knipex I don’t think quality will be an issue going forward, I have some old Knipex stuff from years ago and they’re still very good.
Already I’m looking at a bigger version, I’m not sure yet how big I want to go ( cost v use I’ll get from them ) because they aren’t cheap, and as my Klein ones failed to impress, I’m mindful of wasting another 70.
I read a review in which it was stated By the reviewer he’d wished he’d got them sooner, this edged it for me and I feel the same after buying them too.
You know that warm feeling you get when you use a nice tool? This is one of those nice tools, literally a delight to use, Im slightly gutted that Ive changed job so dont have my tools on my all the time
My favourite are the dipped parallel jaw version but they are bulky and feel as though they are two sizes up.
I also have a standard jaw insulated version with vde insulation that feel a size bigger than this uninsulated model.
If you need insulated grips, and to be honest, even as a sparky I can’t think why you would, don’t get these. But if you don’t need insulation these are so much smaller and easier to use.
I fit a lot of armoured glands and would always use parallel jaws out of preference, and to avoid damage to the fastenings.
As others have said, really good. Two downsides, however: cost, and size – it’s not possible to get the tool into tighter corners very easily, compared to a normal spanner, generally because the handles are rather bulky.
A very well designed, quality tool. I worked out the ratio of effort between the handles and the jaws at 18:1, a good grip, helped by a bit of spring in the handles too. Having smooth jaws that stay parallel and have virtually no play makes it useful for fitting chromed water fittings, etc. Very impressed with this tool.
These easily totally out-class adjustable spanners, though maybe except when there is an awkward access issue where these are a little bigger (but then they may well beat adjustable spanners when *they* have an access issue, as they often do).
Just get some for your toolbox.
One of my favourite tools which basically replaces metric and imperial spanners in my daily tool bag with the adjustable jaws and ratcheting action.
Great for use on tight nuts that have already been rounded by an ordinary spanner splaying under torque load as the clamping action generated by the handle and hinge mechanism is so high that the jaws won’t slip. You can even crush a 2p coin with these things!
I also own the 180mm smaller brother of these wrench pliers and between the two of them you can accomplish most tasks that require a spanner, but without having to carry a whole set around.
Not great for awkward areas, but neither are spanners; as my drawer of ‘adapted’ (read – mutilated) spanners for tight spaces attests!
Six months ago I bought the 125mm version (86 03 125) of the Knipex, and have been carrying it with me every day in a pouch on my belt, alongside my Leatherman Surge multitool, to replace a 4″ Bahco adjustable spanner.
Whilst the Leatherman will happily grip objects in its pliers, the teeth are not best suited for tightening nuts and bolts. The Knipex pliers wrench on the other hand, with its smooth parallel action jaws, is a much better tool for this sort of work. If necessary, a bolt can be held stationary with the Leatherman, and then the nut can be loosened with the Knipex.
The jaw opening of 23mm vastly exceeds the 13mm of the Bahco, and it can be used for jobs which an adjustable spanner can’t tackle, like straightening metal. Once you get the hang of it, the ratcheting action speeds up tightening and loosening tasks, and the self-tightening jaws mean that you don’t have to grimly keep the handles pressed together like a pair of pliers.
Although I don’t use it every day like the Leatherman, it has come in very useful and is particularly good on brake pipes.
I have no hesitation in recommending this great little tool!
Very easy to EDC (everyday carry) with a belt pouch made for multi tools or torches. I made a custom one for it.

Don’t overthink this purchase, it’s one of the nicest tools you will ever own.
Shown (in the photo with my hand) next to the Knipex Cobra, which I’m not a fan of.
Also consider getting a Wera Zyklop Speed Ratchet. Similar sized tool and they work great as part of a compact kit. (Green tool in attached photo)
Another nice compact tool is the SOG Pocket PowerPlier, which has around half as much grip force as this, which is still a lot. Not pictured.
And the other photo is showing some scrap metal that I bent to shape and used to repair my headphones.
This is a good Pliers/Wrench that electricians will find useful. Mmm, what to say about these Pliers/Wrench. It’s easy to become complacent with tools so at first I just accepted that this was just a new addition to my tool bag. Firstly my likes; I like the flat jaws and the quick adjustment heads, the ability to hold onto round surfaces and the force that can be applied when using this tool. I have two pairs of VDE Cobra Pliers (which I find very useful) at this size but wanted to get a pair of these to compare and contrast. These are an interesting addition to my toolset and I need to adjust my methods of working to get the best from this tool. Why, because the principal benefit of using this tool comes from not having to apply force to hold the jaws together. This only works with the tool positioned in one direction and it is not always possible to correctly orient this tool in a confined space, or between pipes, or at a wall corner (so that you can correctly apply force). These are very expensive compared to a set of VDE Cobra pliers but they are useful, so I can recommend them to you for your tool bag.
It adjusts quickly to size and just does not slip or open, so the work piece isn’t damaged. It really does consign the traditional screw adjustable to the junk pile, where it belongs!
Knipex know how to make a tool so materials, and manufacturing quality are there with the best. Not cheap but indispensable for the serious mechanic in any field. I’ll be getting the next size down too, as although this one does cover alot of sizes, it’s a little bulky for the smaller stuff.

The jaws close with a parallel action, so there is no crushing one side of the item being gripped before the other, and as they are smooth there is no marking either. You can get a *lot* of grip pressure with little apparent effort owing to the lever mechanism. The mechanism works on both sides of the moving jaw, so there is no twisting during operation.
The jaws are 20 mm in depth, tapering from about 7 mm at the root to about 4.5 mm at the tip. There are no sharp edges anywhere on the tool.
I’m really impressed with the quality of the Knipex pliers wrench. For some reason I imagined that you’d have to squeeze the handle quite hard to grip the nut, though in practice it requires hardly any effort at all. It must be this ‘self locking’ design thing that Knipex talk about.
The long handles and soft grip make them very easy and comfortable to use. They’re certainly more comfortable than an adjustable spanner and the leverage gained from the long handles make turning nuts and bolts almost effortless.

These Knipex pliers have smooth square jaws so can be used for gripping without damage (especially if a vulnerable item is protected by a soft piece of Fabric/leather etc prior to closing), clamping, holding, pressing, bending and most importantly for me, as a quick release spanner. Used in conjunction with the larger version they are a very effective way of tightening and loosening the unions on taps, central heating radiators and general pipework – especially the larger nut sizes where suitable sized spanners are not always readily to hand.
The simple, but immediate, infinitely adjustable nature of the operating mechanism of these pliers is one of their biggest attributes especially in often difficult or restricted access applications.
The Knipex pliers are extremely well made in cast Chrome Vanadium are extremely sturdy and are truly built to last a lifetime (and even much longer I suspect). Mine are over ten years old and used regularly yet are showing no signs of wear whatsoever.
Knipex tools are not the cheapest – but the best tools never are. However, Lackner & Urnitsch GMBH helped to ease this burden by offering the pliers at a 31%, discount – the best deal that I could find anywhere on the Internet at the time.
To sing the praises of Lackner & Urnitsch although based in Germany they delivered the pliers to me in double quick time, boxed, then very well and safely packed with a neatly typed invoice within and a tourist map of their locality. They are an excellent and efficient company to deal with and cannot be faulted – I am 110% happy with my transaction – Highly recommended.

Very nicely made wrench. The nickel plating looks to be top notch, although time will tell!
The handles are very comfortable.
The adjusting mechanism is very similar to the Cobras, just push in the button and then move the jaws into the desired position and let go of the button and it will click into place.
Think of it as a replacement for an adjustable spanner. Not very good as pliers, but is OK for holding stuff you are working on if you don’t wan’t to mark it. If you don’t care about marks, the Cobras are better for gripping and half the price.
On nuts, this is very good and as you pull to tighten or loosen a nut, the pressure applied to the handles grips the nut tighter, so in theory, less chance of slipping off than a big adjustable spanner.
I need to use it more before I can comment further.
