Just taken a vacation and kept everything cool. I have not tried heat. Wanted it for cool.
Works fine. Unable to adjust heat or cold. Works well as designed. Easy to switch between hot and cold.
Used cooler for a whole weekend straight, all products stayed refrigerated perfectly.
Great space works well may start to freeze up in colder weather I would buy agai
Not sure if I would call this a 12 volt refrigerator, I think I would call it an ice less cooler. Keeps contents cold if they are already cold. It would take a long time to get something from hot to cold in this. But everything else is great for the price. Plenty of room, quiet and doesn’t use much power. Definitely recommend.
It does a good job keeping cool things cool. I gave temperature control a 3 because there is no adjustment. Best to power it up several hours before you use it so it can get cooled down. If you put room temperature beverages in a room temperature cooler it will be tomorrow before they are cool enough to enjoy. We used it for a week while traveling with it plugged in the truck while moving and used a 12 volt adapter in the motel room. It worked great using it like this and no ice mess. The plastic shell had a lot of stray pieces of plastic sticking out that needed trimmed off.
Product works well in cooling mode, haven’t tried warm mode. Arrived with grease looking internal scratches and appeared to have signs of some usage. Lid a tiny bit warped, for the price you’d expect perfection. Had to use over a long weekend, the box runs fairly quiet and keeps a constant temperature which is good. I’d recommend but I’d check it over fully upon delivery.
his cooler is a little smaller than expected, and it makes a noise while plugged in, but it’s not super loud or distracting to the point i hate the product. cools great, haven’t tried the warm setting. great for shopping trips, (we live 60 miles away from the city) the cord is super long, which makes it great for switching outlets when kids need the backseat one
Bought this cooler for our cross country road trips we do multiple times a year. It stays cool enough for sandwich meat/cheese, fruit, drinks, snacks. Does not keep milk cold enough to for our family. The heating option keeps things warm, not hot. This cooler would be best for day trips or beach/picnics. Not driving long distances. In the car you have to leave space around the air vent on the cooler or it will get too hot.
Made the mistake of NOT reading the instructions and assuming it’s only a fridge.. lots of Melted butter, cooked bacon and milk on its way to becoming cheese!
It’s all about how you connect the power supply, one way cold, twist and its a warming cabinet. Soon remedied and works without issue on our 12v supply keeping everything nice and chilled.
Overall a good product..
I say this only because, it could use a better lock for the door/lid..
when on end, the door may tend to fly open if things shift around inside.
The shelf needs to be wider in the front, as it doesn’t sit perfectly where it should and tends to fall out.
And finally it could use a seal around the door/lid, to help keep the cooler air inside the unit itself
Other then that, it’s a good product, works like it should keeps things cool. And takes a bit of a beating in my semi but keeps going
We decided to go on a three week trip up the eastern seaboard. We brought fruit, drinks, and sandwich stuff. The Koolatron, at first, took about 12 hours to cool down. But once it was cool it stayed cool. It doesn’t get stuff really, really cold but cold enough that some of sandwich stuff made the three week round trip and was still in good shape. And it is sooooo much better than keeping your stuff cold with ice. There’s no worrying about melting ice, no pouring out the water created by the ice, and then worrying when and where you need to get ice. My wife and I are so glad we found this coolerator.
The product is well made it keeps things cooler or hotter than other boxes I have had also you can fit so much in!
Read lots of reviews for cool boxes I can run from the 12V socket in the back of my car and plug in overnight. This one seemed to have the best reviews and we have now used it over a 1 month period as a cool box for fridge items whilst supporting cyclists going from Lands End to John O Groats.
In summary – its been brilliant. I’ve needed the air conditioning on in the car (to give you an idea of external temperatures) and it kept the chocolate bars hard and cold (and cyclists love a cold Kit Kat). We didn’t have any issues with milk going off, or cheese weeping.
Overnight, powered by the mains, there was ice sometimes at the bottom of the box – so it does get cold. My car does keep power to the 12V socket for 1 hour after stopping, which meant it was still working whenever we had a break. Other cars don’t do this – and I suspect this is why it doesn’t work so well for other people.
On one training day when it was really cold outside, we turned it to warm, and gave the cyclists, warm sausage rolls and pastries. They loved it!
I’ve used it in both orientations, but the shelf doesn’t hold much weight and in the end, we used it like a cool box, rather than a fridge.
Worth very penny – its been brilliant for us!
Despite a couple of negative reviews i’d read about how long it takes to cool and a noisy fan, I bought it, as the price was reasonable and it was a large size and ideal for our upcoming week in Center Parcs.
I bought the dedicated cable that Amazon suggested, so that I can plug it into the mains so I can use it at home as a beer and wine cooler and keep food chilled whilst travelling in the car, making it ideal for picnics.
We had it plugged in to the mains in the lounge on our week away and no one noticed the fan. I put beers at room temperature in the unit and 3 to 4 hours later they were chilled and ready to drink!
All in all I think this is a great piece of kit and well worth the money.
This Koolatron is a replacement for a previous model. It worked very well and was much quieter than our other unit. A noticeable improvement is that the lid will stay open while packing. We have done driving trips in which we are staying in motels and can take the cooler inside, plug it in for the night, and back out to the car in the morning with the cooler plugged in the car. Our food stays fresh and cool until we arrive. I am always amazed a how much I can pack in this cooler.
Good product, good deal for the money. I use it in my big rig because I was cheap to buy an actual fridge and it works amazing! Cools off all my food and drinks easily, plugged in a regular socket, dimensions are great. Plastic lid feels cheap but hey it works!
Have not used it as yet and can not give an honest review as such. if it still works after the warranty is over I’ll be a happy camper.
Very good product works great. Bluetooth app means you can keep track of the temperature on your phone.
The first Koolatron arrived with a huge hole in the box in one corner. Looked as if it might have been dropped from a height. When I checked it out, the motor made a clanking sound and then quit, so back it went. The replacement came very quickly I am very pleased to say – in an undamaged box. It works fine… I’d buy again. (Amazon’s shippers should do better job. It saddens me that because of carelessness, what started its journey to our house as a perfectly good appliance is headed for the landfill.)
Perfect addition to our camper van. Giving a good option of cooling or keeping things warm. The cooling is so effective we actually had ice form on the wine bottle
OMG WOW! Bought this as an emergency replacement for the fridge on my boat which was faulty and draining my batteries. It wasn’t expensive and so i didn’t have high expectations for this chiller and boy was I so wrong. It’s quite, uses very little power and gets so cold that small drops of ice formed from the condensation. My home fridge is set to 2 degrees and this is just as good as the real thing. Food was kept fresh, beer ice cold I can genuinely say it was worth every penny and more!
Love the fridge…very well made and ideal for my canal boat.
The fan is a little too noisy though.
Bought as a replacement for one we bought many years ago. Used as extra fridge to store fresh fruit picked from garden, so on almost all the time for about a month.
This is the second Koolatron Kooler we’ve owned. We purchased this one because our last one was so reliable and kept working for years until finally the lid wouldn’t fit properly anymore. My only complaint is that the lid closes so tightly that it is REALLY hard to open. There is very little room for finger grip to grasp the lid and pull it up. I would like it if the designers had a look at this and maybe came up with a better design for holding the bottom part down and lifting the lid from it’s very secure latch. I have broken so many fingernails……
It works well and keeps food cool as is said it would. We are using it because my fridge is not working on gas.
Right before i started working as an Over-The-Road Truck Driver, i was told to buy an electric cooler to save money on food and drinks. I researched all day, trying to find the best electric cooler money could buy. I ended up purchasing this particular model.
Pros:
– This actually does drop the temperature ~40 degrees. I’ve had bottled water, right next to the vent, ice up.
– The lid is easy to throw open and shut. I never had a problem with it not shutting properly.
– Plugging this unit in is a breeze and i love how they color coded which way you should plug it in. Hot or Cold?
– Plenty of room in this cooler, i can store 12 cans of soda and 24 bottles of water. I probably save $20+ a week bring my own beverages.
– Easy to carry with hollowed grips on the sides.
Cons:
– Please don’t cut cost on insulation. Please add a little more insulation. The walls seem to be very thin.
– The construction is flimsy and cheap.
Overall, I highly recommend this unit as it has lasted me over a year (5+ months of continuous use over the road).
Update: November 28th, 2021. Still works, still using it!
This cooler worked very well for us. We bought it for a road trip to hold leftovers, milk and sandwiches cold so we wouldn’t have to eat in restaurants so much and it more than paid for itself. We had to buy the adapter for it so we could plug it into an outlet in the hotel rooms when they didn’t have a fridge but whenever the hotels did have fridges, we’d transfer the food to the hotel fridge to give it a break from running continuously and then we’d brought along a couple of those mini freezer paks so even if the cooler wasn’t cold in the morning when we moved everything back in, it was enough to keep things cold till the cooler was brought back to temp. after we plugged it back in. We would store the milk near the fan and often found our milk iced up a bit and our chicken was always very cold so we knew it was doing its job. We kept our fruit and salad at the other end and they stayed cold but never froze up. You have to remember this cooler does not guarantee it will keep your stuff at a certain temperature, it only goes 40 degrees F lower than the temperature its in, so for us our cooler was almost always at room temp or in the vehicle at about room temp so it was perfect for being a fridge temperature. Therefore if you were using it in the hot summer temps, it would obviously only cool it off accordingly, 40 degrees F cooler than the surrounding temperature. Latch closes well so we never once found it accidently left open but we never put it in the vertical position. Nice long cord for plugging in. Good handles for carrying. Was perfect for our situation.
Worked well on our recent trip to France; sat between the kids on the back seats but will have to relocate to the boot when the boys get older; there wasn’t that much room. They are 4 & 6 so if you have older kids or a smaller car than a Merc E Class then it would have to go in the boot. Found a 230v adapter in the shops and then used successfully in the apartment.
My husband is a long haul trucker and needs have some food on hand.
I ordered this one as he had this same model for approx. 10 years and never had a problem
The only thing different from the old one to the new one is that the older model had a better latch
to keep the door closed when used in the vertical position as a regular fridge.
The new model did not come as illustrated on the box yet it was the same model P 75 36 quart. It was a cheaper latch
that my husband modified to be more secure.
Other wise this is a very good product.
We bought this because we were going to a week long camp (in a college dormitory). We had heard that the one refrigerator in the dorm gets quite crowded and things can “disappear”. Taking a conventional cooler was not an option because there was no ice maker on the premises and the nearest town was inconveniently located 10 miles away.
This cooler worked great keeping our perishables cool for the 7 hour drive to the camp. We were pleased that the insulation was good enough to keep thing cold even when we stopped for a few hours along the way. (Note: The cooler only works when the car ignition is on; this keeps you from draining your car battery when the car is off).
When we arrived at the camp, we switched to AC power. The cooler worked great on AC as well. (Note: The AC/DC converter is not included with the cooler; you must purchase it separately). We were very happy to have this at the camp. It also came in handy when we stayed at smaller motels that did not have a fridge in the room.
The only problem we had was that after about 2 weeks of near constant use, it stopped working in the motel. We discovered that the cooler still worked on DC (in the car), so the problem was with the AC/DC converter. We read on line that other have had this problem with the 5.0 amp converter recommended by Amazon. Since we were traveling it was not convenient to get a replacement. We took the advice of another reviewer and bought a 5.5 amp converter at Canadian Tire. Since we got the high amp rated converter, things are working great.
Do yourself a favor do not buy the 5.0 amp converter. Buy a 5.5 amp one instead.
great using it on my ya
Keeps food very cold
Just what we needed
Easy to clean
Only down side is door will not stay shut.in upright position fixed with velcro
I just received my Koolatron P75 last night. I plugged it into the adaptor and…nothing. To rule out a bad AC adaptor I plugged it into the vehicle outlet and…nothing. After holding my hand over the external fan I noticed heat but no movement. At this point I remembered reading in the reviews that people had issues with the fan rubbing against the fan guard and, yes indeed, that was the case here. The protective shroud inside the unit was against the inside cooling fan. There was no way to reposition the guard so I cut a bamboo chop stick to length and wedged it between the fan enslosure and the inside wall of the cooler (on the upper side of the fan enclosure). Voila! The unit works as advertised (now) but it is very apparent that absolutely no quality control was in place before the manufacturer shipped this out. So, a good product but they a have a design flaw with the fan/fan guard and they have QC issues at the plant.
Loved our cooler right from the start. Although we began our trip with a dead battery since we’d plugged it in the night before. We had many miles to travel cross country -Scappoose OR to Atlanta via Nehawka NE and home again. This provided us healthy alternatives to the fast food/truck stop lines. Turkey, avocado & sprouts or PB&J at the rest areas. We were envied to say the least.
Unplugged each night and back in each morning, no problems. When we got into the “hot South” it had a hard time staying below the ambient temp when we were in and out of the car too much. Do you folks East of Kearney NE know that we don’t have HUMIDITY out West? Don’t know how you all do it! As pioneers, they must have just given up, thinking it would never get better than where they were. So sad. Now don’t ya’ll move West all at once. This country might tilt further left more than it has this past year or so!
We purchased the A/C adapter and kept the ‘fridge’ in our destination hotel perfectly. We were quite the sight moving into the Westin for the week.
It was so nice to have a cold drink without the mess of melting ice. Fits nicely on the backseat of the Denali within easy reach of our 6 yr old ‘keeper of the treats’. Wouldn’t travel far without this again.
BTW – I like how it can be a chest or a fridge with the shelf turned. Great feature!
Happy travels…
