The Karcher WD4 vacuum arrives well packaged with the following parts; the vacuum itself with 20 litre tank, a filter, a main floor brush, one large fleece filter bag for dry vac, 2 extension tubes, a floor and crevice nozzle, a 2.2 metre flexi-hose and four wheels for fixing to the base of the unit.

The power cable is a decent 5 metres in length and the included filter bag is one of the biggest of its type I’ve seen. All in all, the entire ensemble weighs in at a mere 8 kilograms. The accessories kit can be found inside the 20 litre tank and isn’t instantly noticeable when you first unbox the unit so be aware.

I wasn’t long into testing out this Karcher wet & dry cleaner before I realised its potential and the diversity of its uses and with a 1000 watts of power behind it, this is a real beauty with some serious suction. The great thing about this wet and dry vac is the fact that you don’t have to faff around changing the filter each time you wish to suck up a different material, as the readily accessible filter system can handle liquids as well as all the dry stuff or even a mixture of both without the need for change.

There are moulded plastic storage points at the back of the unit which can be used to secure your extension tubes and accessories to the main unit so that you always have the necessary gear for whenever you need it and the whole ensemble can be readily moved around on the four wheels on the base of the vac.

There’s not much the Karcher can’t deal with in terms of its suction power as it sucks up soil, sawdust, wood shavings and even washers, nuts and bolts. This will make it real handy for my workshop where I can fix this up to my table saw, mitre saw, router and sander without the fear of it clogging up the vacuum as my smaller shop vac is inclined to do at the moment. General tidying in the workshop too will benefit from the Karcher as it generally, within reason, pretty much sucks up anything. Another use for me will be in the valeting of our car, where I believe the Karcher will excel, especially so, with the included crevice attachment. The water uplift of the Karcher is great too regardless of how smooth or rough the floor surface is, as can be seen by the attached video.

Emptying the Karcher is easy achieved by simply releasing the two ABS plastic clips either side of the unit, pushing down on the button and separating the motor from the tank by lifting with the handle. Liquids can then be simply tipped down the drain and if using the vacuum bag-less, decanted into a skip or whatever. Of course when using the included filter bag, the process is even simpler.

In summary, this is an outstanding piece of equipment which, in my estimation, produces great suction, is robustly manufactured and has a dual filter system that means you don’t have to keep switching filters when changing from dry to wet or vice versa. The 20 litre capacity storage tank should be ample for the majority of uses and for those who prefer to run the Karcher with the filter bag installed, the large capacity bags, of which one is included, should last for quite some time.

At the current retail price of a little under 114 I believe this is great value for money and I wholeheartedly recommend this five star product.
