Moving over to Chromebook from Android was surprisingly irritating. They are different ( obviously) but i was surprised at the subtle little annoying differences. But quickly got to grips with it.
I do a lot of ad-hoc consultancy and also travel quite a bit. This slips nicely into a shoulder bag and has enough oomph to do virtual meetings , review /create docs and spreadsheets etc.
Keyboard is excellent as is the touchpad. I purchased a dinky Bluetooth mouse but it’s not needed for most things I do.
I never thought about getting a Chromebook before as I didn’t see the point when you can just get a laptop that does so much more. Then I wanted to upgrade my tablet. After some research and Amazon’s Prime day I settled on this device and I have to be honest the best of both worlds in this little package ticked all the boxes (Laptop and android tablet). The only downside I have with it is a slight Bluetooth audio latency issue.
on opening and checking contents found a pen holder but no pen in the box. given 4 stars because so far it has started OK and set up is straight forward. contacted Lenovo to report the pen missing waiting reply.
The tablet is wonderful but the stylus does not work. The battery rattles and I believe there is something missing from inside.
I’ve had this device for a few days for a few days now, and, in short, its been a pleasure.
Pros:
-Display: The display is great, 2K IPS. The colours are nice and vibrant, and its bright enough most use cases. It doesn’t catch a lot of fingerprints as well, which a very nice touch. No complaints.
-OS: This is my first laptop (I know this is technically a tablet, but your probably gooing to use it mostly as a laptop anyway), and was pretty much in the dark as whether to go Chromebook or windows. There’s a lt lot of hate around ChromeOS, especially since it doesn’t support as much apps, but it has been a very smooth experience. Setup was nice and quick, it sincs instantly to other devices with other android devices. Some nice wallpapers and screensavers built-in and overall a simple os to navigate. The different gestures with the touchpad are very useful, especially when it comes to productivity. It takes a while to get used to it, but they really spped up some of my tasks. I thought the apps limitations would be a problem, but I haven’t really got any apps that aren’t on the play store. I had been using Docs, Sheets and other google services for a few years now, and it didn’t take long to prefer it over microsoft office. Firstly, it is free, which is always a bonus. Also, the built-in auto correct on Docs is 10x more accurate than word, even with transiliterations from arabic. The auto-save is very helpful, and even if your offline, it syncs it onto the device and then, when you connect to wifi, it saves on the cloud. I would definitely reccomend you to try it out if you haven’t, because it really is miles away from word.
-2-in-1: The first thing you’re going to notice with chromeOS is that it is very similar to android, and that is very helpful with this device. The fact that I can go between a normal laptop with a normal laptop experience a keyboard (which is brilliant, very sturdy, nice not-too-clicky buttons, not too small and again, no complaints) to an ordinary android tablet is very useful, and the two modes iks seemless, with barely any lag.
-Battery: Although this is a smaller device than teh duet 5, my experience with battery on this thing was nothing short of excellent. I’d have 3 desks open, audio in the background whilst playing a game on high graphics, downloading 3-4 apps and on the earphones connected, and still get a full day of battery. All without having to charge it once.
-Price: For 330, you get the tablet, which you can tell is brilliant; the stand/case, which is nice and soft, very good quality and strudy; the keyboard, which I already said is nice clean, no problems; the pen, which the lenovo website doesn’t even sell; and a 30W Charger that fills up the device in under 4 hours.
Neutral things:
-Performance: The performance is ok. Its not great, it is a qualcomm processer backed by 4gb of ram. But even with this, it went through the previously mentioned situation for 5-6 hours straight, and neither did it jutter nor drop its frame rate. I’d say it is good enough for anything except the most heavy of games, and obviously rendering. But for under 350, it is brialliant.
Cons:
-Camera: the camera is pretty much useless for anything except documents, but who uses a tablet/laptop for photography?
Summary: A very brialliant bargain for most anyone, especially students who are like to be productive.
I bought at a great offer price but it is a lovely, quick compute
The device turns on and works fine but the detachable keyboard doesn’t seem to work? I’ve had a look in settings and googled it but it still doesn’t work, am I missing something?
Really nice chromeOS tablet/laptop that comes with a UK keyboard 🙂
The stylus has a battery in it that you need to activate before you can use it.
Everything else was easy to get setup especially if you use Chrome on other devices.
Certain apps don’t install, Word being one, but the likes of Netflix can be accessed via their website. Other streaming apps that do work include iPlayer, Disney+, and Sky Go.
Happy with it so fa
Had this for 4-5 months now and I love it. It’s not going to compare with more expensive Chromebooks, but if you want a reliable, easy to use Chromebook that fits easily in your bag, then thumbs up. I mainly use it for word-processing, emails and general everyday stuff, which it is fantastic for.
The Android part, for gaming and apps, works great and is well worth it for the tablet like experience.
The only bad point I can literally put my finger on is the screen does like a fingerprint mark or two. Not too sure it should be advertised as ‘anti-fingerprint’?? I am constantly cleaning the screen.
All in all. Great device. I paid 250 on Black Friday and it was a steal.
Little Slow and the battery is average, but overall very useful and practical for notes during your lectures.. the 2-in-1 spec is very useful.. would recommend, especially with that price
Very happy with the tablet, a bit sluggish when multitasking or just after booting up but expected for the price.
Bought the device as a Christmas present to my daughter. She had been coveting my iPad Air with a keyboard case and pencil and thought that this would be a great device for playing and school work. Product is excellent. Makes me think that I did not need an iPad Air in reality. It may not be as powerful but she has her office apps, teams for school and she can also play with drawing apps and Minecraft, Roblox works perfectly well on top.
This came with the keyboard case and a stylus and these really have made it a great and flexible device. Battery life is incredible and the ecosystem works well as the device is set up under a family account and google allows controls to ensure safety is in place for my daughter.
Only potential negative is that the speakers as lower than expected. We also have an fire tablet which appears to be louder and produces a richer tone and that device is a lot cheaper.
This is a great laptop especially if you would like to use it for browsing, watching shows or some drafting. Its a great size and handy for taking it with you. I would recommend, however do not buy this if you want a working stylus- the one they sent does not work and product support advised me to buy another one which would be compatible which again it did not work. Sadly the customer support received from amazon from this has been poor.
I have had my eye on the original Duet for some time, and was delighted when they announced the Duet 3 (the Duet 5 was a little too large for my needs).
The size is a good compromise between portability and productivity. The keyboard takes some getting used to, but it is definitely usable. It isn’t as much of a jump from a 13″ laptop as I’d thought it would be. It is light enough, though not perhaps as light as I was expecting – though to paraphrase the chap from Jurassic Park, if it’s heavy then it feels expensive.
The screen is lovely: crisp, clear and bright. Battery life has been good thus far.
The apps I’ve tested are all responsive and fast enough for multi-tasking.
And the price…I would have been happy to have paid the original price of 350, especially as the Duet 3 isn’t really available widely; but when Amazon reduced it to 249.99 as part of Black Friday it was a no-brainer. Especially as you are getting the keyboard AND stylus included (the stylus works very well, by the way).
Great little machine, very happy with my purchase.
UPDATE: still happy after a few weeks of usage. The only irritation – and it’s a design flaw – is that the stylus is nigh on impossible to pull out from its holder when you are actually using the laptop. You end up yanking the stylus and holder out, or inadvertantly closing the lid.
To get around this, I cut a slit along the top of the rubber. Now I can just reach around and it slides in and out easily. And it still holds the pen when it’s in my bag. Still, keep this in mind, Lenovo.
UPDATE 2: this device is wonderful, but has a major flaw. It drains a huge amount of battery in sleep mode, i.e. when the lid is closed. I typically lose 35/40% battery overnight. That’s simply unacceptable. When I told Lenovo about this, their response was that every battery drains during sleep – that’s true, but 40% overnight??? Their suggestion was to shut down the device completely, which is also unrealistic and shouldn’t be necessary in this day and age.
Lenovo need to get their act together and release a fix for that battery drain. I see from internet forums that this is a problem for other Duet 3 owners, and it ruins what is otherwise a great device.
UPDATE 3: The latest chrome update (109) appears to have fixed this problem. I have just seen a 5% battery drain overnight in sleep mode, which is far more acceptable than 30-40%. So I’m happy to revert to my 5* review.
Just received one of these today and putting it through it’s paces – and so far I’m delighted with it. I have the original Duet, which was also great for its time (it saved my bacon during an all-day power outage when I needed to work).
This upgraded device is markedly faster. Obviously it’s not a powerhouse but if like me you run the web versions of Teams and Outlook etc, which were previously a sluggish experience on the original Duet, it’s significantly better on this. A very usable alternative to laptop for everyday tasks.
The overall experience is much the same in terms of design and ergonomics, but some quality of life improvements (eg, 2 USB-C ports instead of 1). The keyboard attachment is improved too.
Overall, for the money, this is a no-brainer and money well spent.
