This is a really solid yet comfortable camera bag. Fits My Z9 and Z6 and plenty of lenses.
I needed a bag to carry my videography gear. Once you take your time and set up all the dividers you can really utilise the space in this bag. I’ve fitted two mirrorless cameras with lenses attached, batteries, mics, camera attachments, lcd screen, led light and numerous cables and leads. To say the least I’m delighted with the purchase.
The big bug bear is its clumsy to stand up. The rain sheet can be placed to help make bag stable. The zips become smooth after plenty of use. The wast belt is really useful to keep thing at hand.
This is an expensive product, but it is well-worth the investment in order to protect your photography gear and your back, especially if you are taking it on longer hikes.
The tripod holder included on the outside of the bag is also such a useful addition, not to mention the fact that the whole of the inside storage compartment can be customised to fit different lenses and kit.
Have been using LowePro for over 2 decades and this bag didn’t disappoint. Switched to a messenger bag which gave me a back pain. The Protactic AW350 II is comfortable to use as the weight distribution is even on the 2 shoulders. My only complaint is that it is quite a bit heavier than my Billingham.
I needed to have two cameras, one with a long lens and one with a standard zoom ready to use and this design with easy access fitted the bill perfectly. with space still available for a number of other lenses as required. Protected laptop space available, but only used so far for Ipad Mini. The downside is that the rucksack is heavy, but this is necessary to give the incredible protection that this bag provides and this was a known and acceptable compromise.
The design means that if you have to lay the bag down (rather than open it up still around your waist) the side on the ground is not the one that would normally be on your back when you put the rucksack back on!
I would highly recommend this bag, particularly if you go out to photograph and want to have choices of camera and lenses to use.
This is an excellent camera bag.
It has space to store all my camera kit and accessories, together with my binoculars.
It’s worth taking time to correctly set up all the interior compartments.
Very comfortable with decent straps and detachable waist belt. Tons of room inside which I’ve used for my Nikon Z6, 2 lenses, drone, iPad, laptop and other bits and pieces. Waterproof covering is great as are the pockets that can be added. Tripod cup works really well. Can’t fault this bag. Totally recommended.
A nice sturdy product which has just been up Slieve Donnard (850m ascent) packed full. It was comfortable with loads of spare pockets for bottle/filters etc.
It’s not as large as I hoped, likely due to it being rigid, but it is tough and comfortable. I carried a mirrorless camera with four lenses, a Mavic mini, and a spare jumper/snacks.
I got this bag as a replacement for another by LowePro that my increased camera gear had outgrown.
I wanted one place to put everything safely.
I needed a lot of time (a couple of hours) to get the layout in the photos and I used some spare inserts to save me having to think too hard.
There are 6-7 included inserts unused. I will see if I can get the same results without a need for spares from another system
My main camera (Nikon D500 plus battery grip) is at the top of the case and my second one (Nikon D300s plus battery grip) is accessible via one of the two side access flaps/doors.
Although it took a lot of time to get the inserts right, I did manage to stow everything away.
This equipment is easy on my back as it’s central on my shoulders. Quite comfortable.
I have now managed to put all my gear in one place and I’ll take out what I need on short journeys.
The wide at the rear removable belt is a bonus. It has zippered pockets either side and can take Molle type accessories, as can most of the case.
The tripod cup and straps, water bottle holder and phone pouch are great bonuses, too. This gives me easy access to some items while the main access is effectively theft proof.
All in all a very fine bag with a superb carrying capacity.
Highly recommend.
Brilliant bag fits all my camera gear in with room to add more , been looking at this for some time but was a bit on the expensive side so when it came up on Amazon prime day with the pay over 5 months and greatly reduced it was a no brainer. The bag comes with some good extras which can be added to . It’s really comfortable on my back and feels really durable and rugged looking forward to putting it through its paces. Quality product from lowepro as always.
Was gonna buy the 350, but when the 450 appeared for 112, I couldn’t resist.
Great bag, sturdy but a tad heavy. The back airflow thingy doesn’t work as far as I’m concerned.
I can get all my kit in which includes 2 bodies, 2 speedlites, 6 lenses, extra batteries, MacBook Pro and other bits and pieces. However, due to the weight, I only take max 2 bodies and 3 lenses and batteries on a regular basis. I can add the other kit, but only when it’s absolutely necessary. Because its got a lot of interior space, you are tempted to take all your gear with you.
I haven’t tried the tripod attachment yet, but I would only ever consider taking my carbon fibre travel one, and adding a water bottle would be too much IMO.
I did take the waist belt off but I think it may help with spreading the weight.
Overall, a very good backpack and it should last a good while.
Oh, and mine does stand up on its own most of the time, which is a bonus.
I have not had this long, but i am already very, very pleased with my purchase. I own a Nikon D3500 and an 18-55mm kit lens, ultra wide angle, 70-300mm Nikon telephoto. They all go in with ease, if i want i can take my camera with a Sigma 18-35mm lens on also. That is quite a big lens.
I don’t carry a laptop or tablet with me, so instead make use of the space with polarising filters or UV filters. Also send me basic cleaning supplies. It has a nice weight to it, but it’s not heavy. A much improved bag with a tougher feel compared to my last one. I am very pleased.
It has been a few months now since I bought this bag. Perfect. I can fit in my drone, DSLR, Nikkon 200-500mm and a few other lenses as well as all the other accessories. The tripod can easily be attached, too. It is very comfortable ( despite the weight when full ) and I feel my camera gear is totally safe inside.
It’s exactly what I expected with one exception… It’s heavy.
The upside of that is that it’s nearly bulletproof. Well, not really, but it does protect my camera gear to the point where I don’t worry about jostling it around and subjecting it to hits and bumps. The gear will be fine.
However… the weight to me is a big disadvantage, and something I should have considered before buying. I didn’t, so it’s my bad. 🙂
Excellent sturdy bag, very comfortable to wear when heavily loaded. I have used it now for more than a month and am very satisfied with it. Zips are rather stiff when brand new and found it difficult to close the top access flap at first. After some use they loosen up and there’s no problem. If you need a pack to get you and your kit up a mountain safely then this is i
Well made just what I have come to expect from Lowepro. Very spacious and very comfortable to where I am 6’2″ so some bags sit high on my back but not this. We’ll specified. I would highly recommend, there are plenty of makes cheaper but nowhere near the quality
This ProTactic 450 AW II is a really nice camera backpack, the very useful side access only just big enough for my DLSR with a vertical grip attached which I personally find essential for a number of reasons.
I’ve searched high and low to find a backpack to suite my requirements and no doubt others will be doing likewise. Read the other reviews to help you make an informed choice.
Two points I will be returning to update this review with are about wear and tear, 1. re the external elastic webbing, this is very similar to military type “Tacticle Back Packs” so if the right grade should be hard wearing and 2. wear to personal garments from the improved vented back panel (waterproof jackets are expensive to replace).
I do have reservations concerning the clips that attach the supplied removable straps, these unclip far to easily and I’ll be seeking a solid replacement to attach the tripod with. — Update, these traps seam okay for attaching a light weight waterproof, I have found Stainless Steel oval Quick Link screw locks and straps for when I take a tripod or pole.
This is a solid spacious backpack well worth consideration.
Really impressed. This is a sizeable bag, but it’s cavernous as a result. I’d been struggling to find a bag that would accommodate an SLR with a camera grip and a decent-sizes lens, and this was the only one I found. I can even fit into the bag a travel tripod, or can strap it to the outside with the various attachments included with the bag. The styling is a bit ‘tactical’, and I’m not entirely sure I’ll make extensive use of pouches etc on the outside strapping, because they swing round a bit and look a bit untidy, but it’s good having options. The bag carries a lot, but Lowepro’s hiking legacy is clear when it comes to comfort, even when well-laden.
Amongst my collection of camera bags and roller bag. I needed a full-size backpack that I would take with me for either wedding photography or videography and have everything I needed to complete the job. The bag is very well thought out, designed, hardwearing and the zips are excellent. The internal padding and layout are great too.
I am using mine with three Sony alpha bodies, 5 lenses, loads of batteries, Speedlight, memory cards and loads of other bits and still room for more! Also, the option of having three access doors was a big win for me!
Highly recommended bag for the photographer with two or more bodies.
Comfortable, spend two days to set up the dividers the way I will use it, gave up one side quick access for water bottle, tripod and other attachments. The only thing I can’t cop with is that there is no space inside for my xtreme 2. It’s a little bit smaller inside than the manfrotto d1 I used as travel backpack, there is no way to put luggage for a week as the manfrotto but still with all attachments it makes it more convenient and is a little bit more comfortable than the manfrotto with weight. Probably would be nice to have some security to lock the zippers as if you travel with it it can get scary.
There is absolutely nothing I dislike about this bag. The space is very configurable and it holds a lot of kit. Just remember the more you put in the heavier it becomes! I have managed to put my camera body with three lenses, a gimbal, and a whole host of other battery charges and gadgets in this bag and there seems to be still room for more. Straps are secure uncomfortable to wear, and I’ve even managed to attach my carbon fibre tripod to the side of it for longer walks. It’s not a small bag, but I can hardly recommend it for daily shoots out and about or transporting equipment from a to b.
As a photographer, there is always an endless search for a perfect camera bag. But there is no such thing as perfect. This one is close to the one I need when travelling. It holds 2 camera bodies with 70-200 f2.8 and 24-70 f2.8 attached, 300 f4 PF, 20 f1.8, 105 f2.8 macro, flash, laptop, and several filters. The bottle holder is also useful when travelling and shooting. It’s a little awkward to draw out the camera on its access points when there is a vertical grip attached to the body. Overall, just happy with the features of this backpack.
This is a great sturdy working backpack, which I’m using to transport the basics of my music production rig (laptop, external drives, a small camera, cables and chargers etc) It feels like my stuff is protected and well organised and I can get to the piece of equipment I need with ease. Don’t know why ‘warmth’ is an option for the reviews…hence the 3 stars on that.
This is the best camera bag I have ever owned. Very very compact and comfortable but holds absolutely everything I own. it’s also so easy to get to your camera or lenses through either the top or side products. I keep my camera on top and my lenses in the side pockets so everything is always within reach.
Before with my old camera bag, It wasn’t big enough so I only brought out some of my gear and I would always be missing something when I needed it the most. Not anymore, I have everything now from SD cards in their own pocket to brushes, filters, lenses, tripod, charging cable… you name it.
Incredibly happy with my purchase. Something to note is that it doesn’t stand on its own which is slightly annoying but that’s the price you pay for such a slim sleek bag I guess so I’m okay with it.
I wanted to wait some time before reviewing this bag.
Overall the build quality is excellent and it is very comfortable even when fully loaded. There are however several issues.
Firstly from a design point of view, when accessing the back of the bag, the entire back unzips but the straps always get in the way of folding it out. If you compare this to the F-Stop bags they don’t have this issue.
It also uses the tactical type straps to attach whatever you would like to the back of the bag. I use this for my tripod mostly. The clips are fairly weak and come detached regularly and my tripod has fallen to the ground on several occasions.
Overall this is a quality item but I would probably look at an F-Stop if I needed to replace it.
I took a punt and went for this 450 AW II for a trip to the Lake District. It is a great sturdy backpack, though I will be honest and say it is on the heavy side.. I would have hoped for something a little lighter.
Internals have plenty of spacers which you can move around to suit your own setup. I do not use “side opening” to get to the camera, so I have spacers all around the bottom of the bag making quite a fe small compartments for cables etc.
The top opening of the Backpack is a great feature but why the need for the rock hard plastic? This is a bit overkill in my opinion and adds to the already overweight bag.!
zips are a good feel and quality, side pockets ( 1 pouch and 1 water bottle holder ) are a good addition. Though if you need to use the rain cover, it will not fit over the backpack with these attached. so be warned if going out in bad weather.
I found the tripod foot pouch useless. It barley fits 1 of my manfrotto 055 legs. So I ditched this and used the water bottle pouch which I could fit 2 legs into.
Pros.
Plenty of space
Plenty of dividers
ease of access
plenty of padding.
Cons,
Heavy Backpack.
Useless Tripod pouch.
Hard plastic top making top opening tough.
Would I buy it again taking all this into consideration…. who knows, perhaps. But the weight puts me off although it is a quality item and comfortable to wear.
I bought a new camera (Canon 1dx mkii) & my existing Lowepro bag was not deep enough to take the camera body with a lens attached.
I bought this bag & there is ample room inside along with external access pockets to quickly access some parts of the bag including the top section where I keep my camera.
The bag is the same excellent build quality of my other Lowepro bag & I look forward to getting many years use from this one as well.
Its secure as the main zip is on your back. Its easy to acess things and put your camera away even with a tripod attached. All the look points on the outside are very useful for attaching things, but at the end of teh day you have plenty of space inside to store everything and plenty of storge areas. To cap it all an excellent all weather rain cover sits ready to use in the base, nicely tucked away.
Great professional looking bag with loads of space and plenty of protection in a good size form factor. To give you an idea of capacity, I have room for a pro body with 50, 16-35, 24-70 & 70-200 lenses, a 360 camera, drone and controller, tri-pod, power banks, 13″ laptop, backup drives plus numerous batteries, chargers and accessories. When fully loaded the bag is heavy but carries the weight well and is comfy.
The bag is incredibly comfortable to wear while traveling, I had enough space for my camera 3 lenses, a bag of legs filters, a flash, a little tripod, rode mic and all the rest of the assessories that go along with all that and still had the space to put a sandwich in on top. It was small enough I could use it as the small secondary piece of hand luggage onboard Ryanair and it fit snuggly under the seat in front of me so all together I’m really liking the bag so far and I’m looking forward to see g how it holds up in the long run.
I love this bag.
My biggest issue however is that its just slightly larger than a lot of airlines carry on.
No one in their right mind puts their equipment into the hold.
On few occasions I’ve had to remove my camera and lens to check this bag in as its too big for carry on by somthing stupid like 2cm.
Fits everything, gets heavy.
Built like a tank
Bought this for my husband whos Hobby is photography,he has a lot of different lens & wanted a side loading bag for ease of getting different lens out of a bag without having to keep taking it off.Was more than pleased with the product the bag is very sturdy, only downside is the weight of it even when empty.
Big bag.
Will be using it as my carry on the plane bag.
It will hold my equipment not got allot but it now I can buy more (wife permitting of course).
Other than camera it will hold my travel sweets, iPad and a bottle of rum ( or your choice of alcohol).
Not an every day bag unlike my sling bag I also bought but perfect for travel protection.
Perhaps take a camera case just for those evening walks to get that sunset.
This is a very good camera bag. I spent a lot of time considering which bag to get to replace my old work out bag. This one comfortably carries two DLSRs and several lenses. It is good to wear and the two openings that allow very easy access to both cameras without opening the main compartment. I like that the main zip is on the back of the bag and therefore hidden when being worn. This does make opening it a little more fiddly but well worth it.
My minor gripes would be that when carrying a laptop as well it is a little less comfortable and that there aren’t quite enough pockets for smaller items. However this is no different to all the camera bags I have used. I begin to think that my perfect camera bag doesn’t exist but this is pretty close.
I had a chance to buy this when it was on sale on amazon so you could say I paid a good price (181), still not a cheap product.
I bought it because I had kata photo bag which had slightly too narrow shoulder straps and rubbish waist support. Other than that the bag was very good.
The shoulder and waist straps are a lot better at this lowepro bag, my shoulders do not ache as much as quickly as they used to do with kata bag, this is the plus.
I have seen people making comments that that bag does not stand upright, it’s true and it’s a bit annoying sometimes. The other thing I noticed is that when you try to unzip the top pocket the handle of the rucksack gets in the way, minor inconvenience. The two small pockets on the side are quite small, they expand very slightly due to the folded material.
I have not had the bag for long and I am not a pro photographer. Can’t comment on longevity of the product. My other lowepro bags were good.
If you can buy it at a discount price, get one.
I also like the fact that you can attach the pouches to it.
I recently got this because I was going on a trip abroad and needed a bag to take all my equipment.
This bag was superb. This can take a lot of your camera gear. I have A7mk3 with several lenses in it, all my cleaning gear as well as my headphones and MacBook Pro 15in with room to spare.
Plenty of possible ways to customise the outside of the bag for a drinks pocket and tripod holder etc
It has great support for your back as well as a cover that comes out from underneath to wrap the bag if it starts to rain.
It is quite big, so remember with a lot of gear in it, it can get quite heavy. So think about what you really need to take with you
I personally don’t have any negatives to say on this bag. After trying several different bags. I’m very happy with this one
