Bought to replace an old lumie lamp. This is so light and portable I can move it round the house or even take it when we go away and is just as effect as the bigger lamp.
Been using it for a week or so. It’s not even winter now but with the constant grey sky I need some light! I think it is working but a bit early to say
Suffered from SAD for many years and finally took the plunge to try a light. It genuinely made a difference over the winter months. Good quality and portable. My only wishes are that it could be adapted to stand landscape as well as portrait, and have a built in timer. Would highly recommend though.
I really struggle with depression, and I wasn’t sure about this, but the light is quite warm, and my mood has lifted. I use it in the morning (right next to my face) and in the evening as a lamp (about a foot away).
There is some evidence to suggest that vitamin D may play a role in regulating mood and may be beneficial for people with depression. However, it’s important to acknowledge that SAD lights do not produce vitamin D in the body. Vitamin D is primarily produced in the skin when exposed to sunlight, specifically UVB radiation, so it’s important not to neglect real sunlight.
The light is very bright and definitely makes a difference. I used it whilst in the Nordics over the winter period and it really helped with adjusting to the long dark days. I found my mood was improved after a few days of using it and it made me feel more alert and easier to get out of bed when it’s still dark outside. Lumie products are always good quality.
Didn’t know what to expect but was delighted at the brightness – it really is super bright! Bought for my daughter who was experiencing winter blues and it really made her feel a lot better.
Item feels sturdy and has a reassuring weight to it. Design allows for portrait and landscape orientation which is handy and the instruction booklet contained more detail on how to use the light than I expected which is nice.
Overall a solid product.
It’s not a miracle so don’t expect an instant ‘I feel amazing’ reaction but over time I have found that I feel better. It’s super simple to use – either on or off. I have it on first thing in the morning when putting on my makeup. It’s like daylight. And then if I’m working from home I’ll have it on during the day. I like it. Anything that can lift my mood is worthwhile in my eyes.
I got this to replace a Lumie Arabia I had owned for over 6 years and it’s incredible how far the technology has come, still just as effective but much sleeker and more lightweight than before. I think these are a must have for dark winters.
After just one use I felt a bit brighter and after 3 days I was back to feeling myself again.
The only downside is that you have to have the light very close to your face and the lead on the unit is quite short. Almost inevitably you need to use it with an extension cable. If the cable was 50% longer it would be perfect. But it works so well I decided not to take off a star for that.
Super bright and easy to use, bought as it will be easy to travel with as it is lightweight and not bulky. Great purchase and very good value compared to others out therw
It’s plugged in, you just pop the switch and that’s it. Easy. Fantastic.
I was very impressed by this lamp. Not only functional but looks really cool as well! I use it daily – too soon to know the long term impact, but I’m sure it will have a beneficial effect.
UPDATE: IT WORKS !! Happy girl and cheaper than holidays in the su
One thing I would note – make sure you face it full on, rather than to one side. If it didn’t irradiate both my eyes equally, I’d get mild eye strain later in the day in one eye.
And be careful the legs fall off if you lift it up so hold the legs if you have to pick it up.
But still glad l have bought this wanted it for a while ..
I have never used light therapy before, but was recommended to try it as I live with S.A.D. (I also take vitD). I did a bit of reserch and decided that this was the one for the following,
1. it has a warmer glow than some other designs
2. one of the reviews has a picture of a cat comindering the light… and let’s face it… if there is one thing that cats know is a good thing when they see one!
3. Nice design
I’ve only had it for 2 days and I have noticed a difference already. I’m more alert and I feel calmer and happier. Honestly, for me this thing is more refreshing than a morning shower!
Hope that was helpful and that you get as much out of it as I have. Also if you are struggling to choose I recommend reading some of the buying guides online. They really helped me.
This light box only stands steady upright. You don’t want to put in the landscape when using long time or not using, it won’t stand steady.
Not the best design you can find but probably the most cost effective model across Lumie and similar brands. It definitely brightens up the gloomy British winter!
The unit looks stylish, the two differing SAD light strengths work well and although it is an expensive lamp, I’m pleased with it and I’m already feeling better about the effect of lack of sunlight with regards my SAD because I know I can come home, switch the Lumie “Halo” on and relax. Therefore I recommend this SAD lamp.
Every autumn I sink into gloom and realised a couple of years ago that I was probably suffering from SAD. Last summer, with autumn approaching and the very real prospect of working in isolation at home looming, I did some research and chose this lamp. It is very easy to set up and use. I used it as per the instructions and found it extremely helpful in lifting my mood on dark days. The light is very bright (but warm), so I set it up on one side (not directly facing me) and used it for up to a couple of hours in the mornings while I worked. Despite the light being very bright, the lamp only gets gently warm. The instructions mention that using it too close to bedtime may interfere with sleep.
I have used lumie products for years now, and they never fail to impress. The vitamin L is no different, making a really positive impact on my days, especially in the darker months.
One of the best things for me is its portability- you can take the stand off the back easily and place the lamp into a laptop bag or rucksack to transport between home and work.
I hope that it last as long as my other lumie products, as they have all served me well in different uses. It feels very robust and sturdy, though I do worry that the stand clips may give over time due to how often I put the stand on and off. So far so good though!
I tend to have issues going into those dark days when the clocks go back, and especially on dark wet days in winter. A row of those can leave me feeling like hibernating until spring so I thought I’d try this.
It’s easy to setup, very very bright! Love that I can use it horizontally or vertically. A dimmer or some way of selecting brightness might have been nice as it could be useful as a general lamp aside from medical use, though in some situations, when I’m trying to work as well, it’s almost too bright! It’s certainly something I’ve used on those dark winter days and I feel it really helps then.
Bought this for my mum on a whim (it was reduced to 50 on the amazon truck). when it arrived she wasn’t too pleased that i’d bought her a lamp that was pointless, as “I dont suffer from SAD, or whatever it is”
Asked her to just give a go for a week or two and see what she thought. i called her after a day 🙂 no change, after 2 days no change, and was told to stop ringing 🙂
anyway, after 5 days she calls me and tells me that she is now singing in the kitchen, shes not sure if the lamp has worked or some placebo effect has kicked in, but i suppose it doesn;t matter, she feels happier.
she now uses the lamp every morning for 30 minutes while she has breakfast and watches the news 🙂
ps, she’s mid 60’s
I’ve been working from home since March in a dark house. I am struggling to get out and see day light and feeling the effects. Have felt I am craving day light, sluggish, lazy, and my brain just doesn’t want to work. A friend suggested lumie and I ordered one. I can’t believe the difference it’s made. I feel much more awake, alert, like my brain has been switched on, my mood has lifted, I get out of bed easier, motivation has improved. I only wish I had discovered this sooner. It’s a bit pricey but well worth the money. It’s easy to use, doesn’t hurt your eyes which is surprising, yet bright and warm. I feel that mood boost feeling when you’ve been in the sun all day. Very impressed and thinking of buying self the alarm clock now!
I turned it on in the afternoon as soon as it arrived, when it was already starting to get dark outside. I noticed an immediate difference – the sort of feeling you get when you walk outside from a dark house into stark daylight, the way your eyes adjust and it feels like something in the edges of your mind is waking up. For me, it’s very distinct, the feeling I get from having this lamp on. A sort of energy, in a way, or a kind of relief. Having this next to you is like being next to a very small window on an intensely bright day.
I customarily sit around a metre away from the lamp, but I leave it on pretty much all day. I turn it on as soon as I’m done showering in the morning, and then turn it off between 8 and 9pm in the evening. The only day I’ve experienced inexplicable low mood in the weeks since I got it was the day I didn’t use it. I have ADHD which means I get sleepy much later than most people, but I think this lamp helps me get tired at a more sensible hour of the day too.
Not sure if it’s related, but I’ve had three pretty spectacular writing weeks since I started using this. Usually I average 3 to 7 thousand words a week, but at the moment it’s about that much daily. I’ve had an incredibly productive time. Most of that’s hyperfocus, but I’m willing to give the lamp some credit for keeping me in the right headspace.
It’s very easy to use, you just plug it in and switch it on. I kind of wish I could buy more cables for it so as to be able to move it around the house easily.
Edit: a year later, I still love this thing and consider it invaluable for winter. It’s to the point where if I notice I’m feeling unusually depressed my first instinct is to plant this lamp right next to my face and turn it on. Fifteen minutes of very close light usually sorts me out.
I’ve also suffered from S. A. D for a number of years now and find the winter seasons extremely tough.
Looking for things that can help with both my messed up body clock and messed up head I started researching light therapy and one name kept coming up “lumie”
Not going to lie I was sceptical about light therapy at first but after a few days I really felt my mood lifted. I was more energised. Less restlessness at night and overall have been feeling a lot better in myself.
Every morning now I wake up and spend 30-60 minutes in front of this light as I have my breakfast and catch up on the days news.
Don’t often say this about a product but it truely has changed my life.
The light that this flat panel LED lamp produces is truly warm, very similar to the sensation of a sunny morning. It is perfect to be kept at an angle in the morning and does not cause burn in to your retinas as it is well diffused.
The feeling is actually warm, it feels like (winter) sun on the skin and that is very pleasant.
I use it every morning on the breakfast table for about 20 mins to half an hour and it is a treat I cannot do without now.
In terms of hardware it is just perfect. Very thin, can fit in a backpack easily for travelling, the stand is decent and can be removed and can also keeps the lamp in landscape orientation (just… a bit precariously). The plastic it is made is excellent quality and easy to clean if splattered with food. It does not heat up much, but it gets warm. Obviously it will illuminate a whole room, so not to be used if someone is sleeping. It does not have a battery unfortunately, so not useful camping or on the move, but the power supply is small enough and the connector quite standard if you need a longer cord.
As I said, I started with huge doses of skepticism and lots of prejudices against this (thought I would return it or use it to illuminate videos), but I ended up liking it so much that I want another one for the office. 🙂
I tried it as soon as it arrived yesterday evening and felt slightly better. With colder and darker mornings, afternoons and evening i was feeling a sense of loss for the sun and suffering from low energy, motivation and feeling completely down, unable to complete everyday tasks.
I have tried again this morning and I am feeling a lot more optimistic and ready to get in the shower than i usually do. It could be a coinsdence but I think not. I am looking forward to seeing if this product can help me to overcome my winter blues which I have suffered with since being a child. Winter has always been a really depressing time for me and if this helps my survival and motivations of day to day life, when all I want to do is wrap up warm and hibernate untill signs of spring then it’s definitely an investment.
Potentially 5 stars but it’s too soon to see ultimate results will update in a week
